i started watching ted lasso and the brainrot is soooo sosososos bad and the lack of trent tk content (and ted lasso content in general) is criminal so do you (pretty please) have any hcs about mr trent crimm the independent?
I have a confession to make... I didn't really give a shit about trent crimm the independent until like a few weeks ago. But then a combination of his thing with colin and the celebration after the game in the last episode where he is so obviously unmasking around ted for the first time that I was like oh shit ok this character is now allowed to take up space in my brain.
So without further ado:
Tumblr media
This man. I don't know how tall he actually is. But conceptually, in my head, he is an absolute beanpole
Obviously autistic (last ep made me go back and reevaluate every single trent scene in the show for clues) and when he's jumping around with ted and beard and freaking out about 'the Lasso way!!' it literally would be less obvious if he had a physical mask to take off lol
All that said, he has a strange relationship with touch
Most places, he's really sensitive to light touches, especially the back of his neck and his knees
Will go boneless and collapse if someone (ted) tickles under his arms
Beard thinks that's hilarious. Roy rolls his eyes but would rather trent be the victim that roy himself lol so he doesn't protest
Is a dad, and so he does have a bit of a ler side
He's terrifying like Beard in that he's a silent observer, and so he knows everyone's bad spots before he even tickles them
I think that he would hesitate to tickle the team because he is so conscious that his presence in the locker room is a privilege he doesn't want to abuse
When he does get comfortable enough to do so, it's mostly sneak attacks and acting innocent after a quick flurry of pokes
Colin is the exception in that he will absolutely wreck him with the slightest provocation
I hope you liked these anon! Anybody please feel free to add on or expand lol

hi jade!!
if you’re still taking hurt/comfort requests could i request poly marauders and how they all respond to one of remus’ chronic pain flare ups/his chronic pain in general? i think you did one with reader a while ago so feel free to ignore if it feels too repetitive. i love the way you write remus and his chronic pain it means a lot to me as someone who has chronic pain too!! sometime when i have a flare up i reread all your remus fic and it makes me feel so much better ♥️
thank you lovely!! modern au, fem, 1k
“I just don’t know what to say to him,” James whispers.
You wipe the lip of the bowl, the steam that’s billowing from it fragrant with fresh chopped basil and warm on your cheeks. “You do, Jamie, you’ll just say what you always say to him.”
“I feel like he must get very tired of me, I just verbal diarrhoea at him while he’s crying.”
You give James a loving smile. “And he appreciates it, I promise. Are you gonna come in and keep us company?”
“No. I don’t know. Maybe you can have a look if he’s up for both of us and come and get me?”
James is too much a sweetheart. He’s been taking care of Remus for years and he’s still never sure if he’s doing the right thing, especially when Sirius isn’t there. You promise James you’ll come and get him as soon as Remus says it’s okay, which he most likely will, and start up the stairs with Remus’ dinner tray to the master bedroom.
Remus thankfully isn’t crying now despite a rough morning. He’s sitting against the headboard with his jaw locked and a loose neck pillow on his shoulders for support, the TV on a low volume opposite and lighting his face.
“Can I turn on the light?”
“Please.”
You flick it on. “Your soup. Did you want toast?”
“No… Thank you.” You put the tray on his lap carefully. He tips his head up, smiling weakly. “Thanks, dove.”
“You’re welcome.” You sit down at the top of the bed with him. “Can I stay?”
He’s insistent that you stay. You’ve not got much to say while he eats, his small mouthfuls a mixture of relief and wincing, but you take up station by his worst leg and run a loving hand up and down the front of it. When you’re sure he’s alright, you let your hand slide under, your finger to the soft part behind his knee and pushing downward.
“Tell me if I hurt you,” you say, beginning the familiar motions of a massage.
“I don’t think you could,” he says over the lip of his glass of water.
You turn away from him with a smile. Even poorly, he’s a wild flirt. “You’ll have to tell James he’s allowed to come and see you. He doesn’t want to be annoying.”
“I’ll shout for him.” He sighs and holds his tray on either handle. “Jamie!” he calls, sounding himself but admittedly heartbreakingly tired. “Can you come here? Please?”
James is straight up the stairs. He was probably waiting on the bottom step. “Yeah?” he asks, his irises like mint two pence pieces, his hand sliding down the door frame.
“Can you move this for me? And sit down?”
It’s as lovely an invitation from him as any when said so tenderly. James walks around to Remus opposite side, putting his tray on the wide window sill before situating himself in the mountain of blankets. It must be weird to be someone’s boyfriend but to have been their best friend for a long time before it; they fit together effortlessly in some ways and maintain a certain shyness in others. James has no problem sitting as close to Remus as he can, but he doesn’t look at him right away, not until Remus leans up to kiss James’ brown cheek.
“You’re never annoying,” Remus says.
James wraps an arm behind Remus’ back, confident though cautious not to hurt him. “If you say so,” he says sincerely.
Time slugs slowly for you all when Remus is in pain, but eventually he has to lay down, his leg twitching frantically in your hold, his nose pressed hard to James’ arm. You persuade some painkillers into him and stay at his side with his water bottle, your cheek resting on his shoulder.
You get out your phone to text Sirius. He’ll get upset if he isn’t in the know.
Hi Siri, Remus is in lots of pain, has had 600mg of ibuprofen and three co-codamol because he hasn’t had any paracetamol yet, is that okay?
Sirius texts back quickly. That’s fine, don’t give him anything else even if he asks for it, three co-codamol is one too many
Sirius again, on the way home. do we need anything from the shop ? miss you lovely
You’d smile if you weren’t worried about the boy shaking under your cheek. I miss you too, don’t worry about getting anything
Sirius does worry, you can hear the crinkle of a shopping bag when he gets home a few minutes later. “He was quick,” you say, sitting up to kiss Remus’ cheek. “He’s gonna hog you now.”
“Love you, dove.”
“I love you.”
Remus tries to savour that through the hot pain rushing all over. His pain is strange, it always has been, disobeying reason and often people’s belief. Half of it is a mystery, the other misery, and you and the boys have always believed him nonetheless. He’s never treated as childish or dramatic, only cared for, James’ endless stories and Sirius’ stern concern, and now you, his sweetheart, with all your soft touches and tone. You speak to him like he’s your favourite person on earth, voice underlain with fondness, always. And you’re selfless more often than not as you are right this moment, moving back to his leg, giving Sirius room to crawl breathlessly into bed beside him.
“Hello, gorgeous. What’s hurting tonight?” Sirius asks.
Not said to undermine him, Sirius just needs to know. He wants to fix everything.
“My back and my legs, mostly,” Remus confesses through a shiver. He’ll cry soon. No one will make him feel bad for it.
“Maybe you should try laying on your front for a bit, yeah? James can still harass you,” —Sirius brings his hand to Remus’ cheek and strokes it gently with the bends of his knuckles— “it’s less pressure on your back, is all.”
Remus feels himself calming already. It’s hard to feel hopeless when he’s well looked after.

gray’s fic recs
my tagging/recommendation system is a mess beyond the point of fixing, so i made a masterlist. (i’ll slowly be adding fics to this!)
- an asterisk is next to players who play for the ahl team of said nhl team
- if works focused on more than one person, they’re listed under the other people, but only tagged in the first one you see in the list.
- also, apologies if the links don’t work correctly, it is in fact my first time making a masterlist
NHL/AHL
Anaheim Ducks
Jamie Drysdale
hey roomie by @emaanemaa
- trevor and jamie threesome. that's right, that's all it took to get you to go read it.
Trevor Zegras
chameleon by @hischierhaze
- listen- if you're someone who, whether it be consciously or unconsciously, changes themselves and their personality for those around them, or you have a history of it- please read this. I promise you, you won't regret it.
now that we don't talk by @sc0tters
- it's a toxic relationship with trevor, of course I'm gonna eat it up (she might end with trevor... or she might not. you'll never know if you don't read it.)
hey roomie by @ emaanemaa (fic linked above under jamie)
the penalty box series by @starsandhughes
I- if you're not already keeping up with this series... where have you been? every update is laugh out loud hilarious, and leaves you itching for more.

cruel weather gets it's own link because of the amount of emotional damage this inflicted upon me.
Arizona Coyotes
Boston Bruins

Hi!! I absolutely love yo he fics talk about carrying the Jamie tartt fic community 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
could you please write something about like the Richmond team being out at a bar and someone kissing Jamie and reader seeing and the chaos that ensues, hopefully with a happy ending but I trust whatever you want to do 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Haha hey, thanks! I write because I have a lot of things in my head, so thanks for enjoying it and for requesting!
Also I literally hate looking for gifs because I can never find the ones I want
Tumblr media
wrote all your lines in the script in my mind
“Why did I let you drag me here?” you ask your absolute best friend the whole world, “I hate bars so much!”
Colin grins. “It’s good for you to get out of your flat and into the real world for a change. You’re getting all pasty.”
“I am not!”
You can’t help but catch onto his infectious mood. He’s still happy after scoring a winning goal, so he and Michael convinced you to go out with them even though it was almost a whole week ago.
You and Colin had grown up together, kicking the football around his backyard until age ten, when you declared you were never playing with him again because he was “unbeatable.”
You hate losing.
You two had been inseparable, even at university. Colin was more outgoing, what with football and all. You were too, in your own way, but you hated bars. And going to the club. You said it was too many drunk, sweaty people but both Michael and Colin promised that it would be fun this time.
“If I have to go, you have to go,” Michael had said to you.
You had groaned, but acquiesced. You’re not too sure of your decision anymore, especially because of how many footballers are present.
The last time you were out with them, one of Colin’s teammates had taken it upon himself to flirt with you the entire night. And he flirted very well. Like, so well that you went home that night incredibly flustered. So well that it now occupied a permanent place in your brain. You played the moment he tucked a strand of hair behind your ear on repeat in your mind, like a tab on your laptop that you couldn’t bring yourself to close.
And you told fucking Michael, who told fucking Colin, who then teased you about it mercilessly until you swore you’d tell the press about the Incident when you two were ten.
Colin shut up after that.
Actually, that’s not entirely true. You’d go out to coffee and he’d say, “Saw your footballer today,” and you’d say, “He’s not MY footballer,” and Michael would ask, “Then why are you blushing?” so you’d respond, “I’m not blushing, it’s just hot in here, alright?”
Anyway, you’re at this fucking bar filled with fucking footballers and you catch yourself looking around the room for one in particular, and Michael catches you too. He doesn’t say anything, just winks at you and pulls Colin over to an open booth.
You tell Colin all the time that you like Michael better than him. It’s because Michael knows the meaning of the word discretion.
“I can be discreet,” Colin says.
“And I can play football,” you reply.
Michael says you two bicker like a pair of siblings. He’s not wrong.
Right now, though, you’re not bickering. A few of Colin’s friends are filling in the booth. Sam slides in first, then Isaac, and then finally Jamie.
Michael is sitting opposite Sam, then Colin, then you.
You’re all squished in, ordering drinks and food, swapping stories and laughing like you’ve known each other for ages.
You suppose you sort of have.
You’ve known Colin the longest, obviously, but the next one is Isaac. You met him shortly after university because he was always around Colin. You met Sam once he signed for Richmond, and Jamie when he domineered the little triad of him, Isaac, and Colin.
You really didn’t like Jamie.
You told Colin all the time that he was a prick and a bully, but Colin wouldn’t listen.
It actually was the cause for one of your biggest fights. You two didn’t speak for three months.
Then Roy head-butted Colin and Jamie was gone, and you’re sure there are other details in between but whatever the case, Colin was at your doorstep with takeout and an apology. You watched Look Both Ways and argued about which was was the best. And that was that.
When Jamie showed back up, you were less than thrilled.
“If you fucking act like that prick again, I’ll fucking sabotage this date,” you had said. You were setting up Colin with a friend of yours named Michael. You didn’t know him incredibly well, but you had a lot of mutual friends who absolutely adored him. You were pretty sure he and Colin would click but you didn’t want Colin to act like a douche again.
He didn’t. It worked out for him.
Jamie knew who you were to a certain extent, which you suppose is why he was flirting with you that night at the club. Your distaste for him was evident, but you felt so uncomfortable in that environment. You were sitting alone, trying to make yourself invisible, when a tipsy Jamie found you and began to make it his mission to get you to a) smile and b) not hate him. He succeeded at both, as well as secret mission c) make you blush and fall madly in love with him. (Not that he knew that option existed.)
But he did that with all the girls, so you tried not to let it go to your head.
It did anyway, which is why you’re sitting in this booth in this bar trying not to look at his perfect face for to long and pretending you don’t notice that his foot is resting next to yours under the table.
“I’m gonna go get another drink,” he says, pushing himself up. You can’t help but notice the glint of his thin gold chain and the way his shirt hugs his bicep. Colin pokes you under the table.
You look back to the group and try to immerse yourself in the conversation, but you are far too distracted. Your eyes keep flicking to Jamie.
Jamie, as he orders a drink. Jamie, as he laughs to the bartender, Jamie as he… kisses a fit blonde girl in a tight skirt?
You look back to your table, eyes fixated on the chips in front of you. Oh. You suppose that settles things then.
You close the tab in your mind and try to muster up some of the old dislike you had for Jamie. It’s not really working, because all you can think about is how he drunkenly waxed poetic about your eyes and told you he had liked them even when they were angry.
This is the first time you’ve seen him since that night, so it’s not like it’s that big of a deal. What were you expecting, for him to soberly declare his love? Maybe Colin had over-hyped the way he said Jamie had asked about you the next day. Maybe he was exaggerating when he said he caught Jamie looking at the picture of you and Colin from uni that Colin had taped to his locker.
Maybe you were looking for something real in someone who was just looking for the next good time.
It doesn’t matter though, because it was just a crush. That’s what you tell yourself as you get up and tell the table you’re going to get some fresh air. “Too many sweaty boys,” you say with a nose wrinkle, and a squeeze to Colin’s hand that means I’m feeling anxious and need cold air.
You’re breezing out the door by the time Jamie returns, hair slightly tousled and frazzled expression. Michael and Colin exchange a look.
Meanwhile, you’re outside freezing just a little bit. The cold air is a welcome shock to your system, so you don’t mind the way you’re shivering. You take a deep breath, envisioning your lungs expanding to the point of popping. Your breath comes out in a whoosh, and you feel the anxiety beginning to dissipate. You stand, back against the bar wall, puffing cold air into the sky for a long time, tears welling in your eyes but refusing to fall.
You’re outside so long, that when the door opens and you hear footsteps coming toward you, you’re sure it’s Colin or Michael coming to make sure you haven’t been murdered.
“You plannin’ on freezing to death?” asks a voice that is neither Colin nor Michael. The owner of said voice leans against the wall next to you, mirroring your position. He’s so close you can feel heat radiating off his body, but you’re not quite touching.
You shake your head. “No, I’m not,” you hear yourself saying, “I just got a little anxious and the cold air is good for me, so… here I am.”
Jamie makes a concerned hm and nothing else. He just stands there next to you, not touching but still too close.
“Why are you out here?” you ask, breaking the silence. “Thought you’d be inside. Looks like you met someone interesting. She might be missing you.”
There’s no malice in your tone. You’re just stating facts as an observer. As a friend, maybe. The only thing that colors your words is just a hint of sadness. You’re sure Jamie won’t register it.
He grimaces and shakes his head. “Ain’t my friend. Some fan who thinks it’s fucking cool to kiss a footballer. Weren’t paying attention, otherwise I could’ve blocked it. I fucking hate it when that happens. It’s like, they don’t even see me as a real person. Just a sexy lad they can do whatever with.”
You chuckle at the way he says “sexy lad.” It reminds you of the way he had told you he had been a “wee sexy baby.”
“That fucking sucks,” you say. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize, otherwise I wouldn’t have said it like that.” You’re taking deep, calming breaths, still trying to get rid of that anxious feeling.
Jamie just shrugs. He makes no indication that he’s going to continue speaking so you ask, “So, is that why are you out here, then? Is it to get away from her? Because if anyone should have to leave, it’s her. Pretty sure we could talk to someone and get her kicked out.”
You shiver, cold air beginning to seep through your coat. Jamie closes the gap between you, his bicep pressing against yours. You stifle another shiver, this one not from cold.
“Nah,” he replies, “that’s not why I’m here. Wanted to make sure you were alright.”
Oh. That’s weird. “Why didn’t Colin or Michael come?”
Jamie shrugs again. “Colin said some shit about fuckin whatever and Michael said the same fuckin shit, so…” he trails off.
You look up at him. “Jamie. You’re not making any fucking sense. I don’t know if it’s the cortisol flowing through my body or if you’ve had too much to drink, but you have got to be a whole lot clearer.”
That seems to get his attention, and bring him back to the reality that you two are outside, in the fucking cold, and he’s chatting with you as if nothing is wrong.
Jamie puffs out a breath, watching it coil into the air. He opens and closes his mouth a few times, then settles on: “I ain’t drunk.”
You’re still looking at him. He’s right. He’s stone-cold sober.
“I wanted to make sure you were alright. Colin said that you’d probably rather see me than him so… I dunno, I fucking came out here. I’ve been thinking about you ever since the last time we talked.”
Your cheeks flush bright red, and you’re grateful for the night sky. You keep taking your deep breaths.
Jamie continues, “You flirted with me for fucking five seconds, and it’s like- I forgot you hated me. Didn’t care about anything anymore, you just smiled at me fucking one time and I felt like I was floating.” He stares at the sky. “I fucking hate talking about feelings and shit, and you’re basically Colin’s sister, so I figured I didn’t have a chance. But I’ve been fucking head-over-heels since the first time you glared at me.”
You’re pretty sure this is an anxiety hallucination. That’s a thing, right?
Jamie is no longer staring at the sky, but looking at you. He breathes out a laugh. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to make it weird.” He moves to go back inside but you grab his arm.
“Jamie,” you say. The look on his face when you say his name is so hopeful, that you feel your heart shatter and reform almost instantaneously. “Jamie, you- you like me? You came out here because you like me? And that’s why you were drunkenly flirting with me last month?”
“Yeah, yeah it is.”
Your hand is still on his arm, and you’re standing face to face. You’re still breathing heavily, but so is he. You slowly run your hand up his arm and cup his face. He’s staring at you, mere inches apart, as you stand on tiptoe to reach his lips.
He kisses you back with the hunger of a starving man, arms wrapped around your waist the moment your lips make contact. You’re pulling each other closer, forgetting the freezing cold, when you hear an, “Oi, boyo.”
It’s Colin and Michael, walking out from the bar, headed home.
You and Jamie break apart and Colin points to him. “Break her heart, Michael and I will break your fucking legs.”
Jamie grins and nods, and you just roll your eyes. You’re going to have to tell them everything, but right now they’re walking away and it’s fucking cold, so Jamie’s pulling you back to him again to pick up where you left off.

Hey! I just read your Jamie Tartt fic where the reader is pregnant and I freaking loved it! It kind of got me thinking about Jamie bringing his little girl, cause he’s totally gonna be a girl dad, to the pitch for practice. She’s like 4 or 5, really young and wearing a Tartt jersey and has the entire team wrapped around her finger, especially Roy.. bonus if her favorite player is someone else on the team, any of them, and Roy and Jamie get jealous… if you could write it great! If not no worries! Thanks for the consideration! 🥰🥰

As soon as you get comfortable your boyfriend lays beside you. “How am I supposed to feel?” Jamie whines to you, crawling onto your lap.
“Can you back-up to the beginning of your story? I have no idea what’s happened, and you pretended like I came onto the field with you," you tell him, rubbing your slowly growing belly.
He smiles and adjusts himself so he lays by your side, head resting on your shoulder so he can also rub your belly.
"Tell me why you look like my sad Jaim."
"She-"
"Dani is so cool!"
You glance away from your excited and jumpy daughter to your even more depressed boyfriend.
"Why don't you tell your mum what you told me?" Ron's voice echoes throughout the hallway as he closes the front door.
"Dani did this really cool move and- and-"
You try and shush, "babes. Babes." You sigh when you don't get her attention. "Honey, take a breath and breathe. I want to hear about your exciting day, but you can only do it if you talk a little slower."
She stares at you.
Roy grabs a seat on one of the chairs you keep out for company (because the team comes over more often than you'd like, right now being pregnant; they take a lot of you). "Why don't you tell her more about the fun you had today?"
"Jan's really tall and gave me piggyback rides while dad was practicing, even though he should have been too."
"You made it fun, Baby Tartt."
You furrow your brows, unsure of who said that.
Roy shrugs and mouths, "phone."
Jamie slumps further into your side.
You open your arms, wanting to pull your baby girl in for a hug and make a poor attempt at trying to get the phone before your chatty girl drops it.
Meaning you two would need to buy another phone (your goal is to make it last six more months).
The screen shifts to the ceiling before Dani's face pops up. "Hi. How are you? Do you need some of my family's special pregnancy soup?"
You smile and shake your head. "No, thank you, Danny. I appreciate the offer though."
"Of course, of course."
"So, how was today's practice? I hope it was alright."
"Oh, it was great. Baby Tartt shows promise to follow in her father's footsteps."
"Oh, does she?"
He nods, "yes, yes. I showed her a few moves and-"
"More like took her attention from me," Jamie grumbles.
Roy scoffs.
You shake your head, wanting to listen to what Dani's saying without commentary from the peanut gallery.
It only lasts two minutes longer until you can't take it anymore.
"Dani- dani- I'm sorry, I'm feeling a little nauseous and I don't want to keep you any longer. I know you have other things to do. I'm sure we'll talk more soon."
"Alright, I’ll leave you to rest. I know how much a woman in your condition needs her rest, especially with Jamie’s baby.”
Your boyfriend beside you grumbles, “what does that mean?”
“You are a good football player, meaning you have strong kicks.”
He doesn’t respond but you do know that Dani’s comment uplifted his mood just a little bit.
“I hope you have a good rest of your evening and get plenty of rest,” the excited player waves to you.
Your daughter leans in, waving. “Bye, Dani! I’ll come by so we can practice more.”
“That is good to hear. I can’t wait until your next visit.”
You end the call and look up. “Sweetie?”
Jamie and your daughter look at you; you pat your boyfriend’s shoulder.
“Not you, J.” You glance back at your adorable baby girl. “Can you go get me my special blanket? I’m feeling a little cold.”
She nods, “okay.”
“I can help-”
You shake your head, “nope. Neither of you are leaving this room until you confess.”
“Confess? Confess what?” Jamie asks.
“You know what. You two have never looked more upset and depressed at the same time. I want to know why so I can help you.”
Roy clenches his jaw.
“You don’t have to say much, Roy. But you, my dear Jaim, have to give me something so I can figure out whether or not a hug will suffice for right now.”
He groans and removes himself from you, throwing himself onto the other side of the couch. “She likes him more.”
Your head snaps over at the gruff man. “What?”
He sighs, “your future athlete, liked Dani more than she liked her dad on the field today.”
“And you,” Jamie points at him. “Don’t throw me under the bus and expect me to just sit here and let you-”
You grab Jamie’s hand, intertwining your fingers, “stop it. There’s no need to fight.”
The older man crosses his arms. “But it’s not fair.”
“What’s not fair? I need you to explain to me because I have no idea what it is or how to help you.”
“She wanted to practice more with Dani than she did me. I mean, how does that make sense? How is that fair? I’m her fuckin’ dad, you know.”
A small smile tugs at the corner of your lips. “Jaim, you shouldn’t feel that way.” You brush away the hair that falls in front of his eyes.
“How else am I supposed to feel? Made me feel like- I don’t know.”
“You do know but I won’t push you because I know it’s the fact that Roy’s here. But please don’t worry about that-”
“Well, how else am I supposed to feel?”
You sigh. “Jamie, she’s wearing your number and has your name on the back of her jersey. She may want to hang out with him a few times but you’re her dad. You’re her number one player.”
Roy clearing his throat makes you roll your eyes, “and you as well, you big baby.”
The gruff man smirks in return, not wanting you to know how that makes him feel (special).
You return your attention to your boyfriend. “You are the reason she loves the sport, without you, who knows what she’d be obsessed with other than her toys, you know. I mean, you helped her find her future.”
He finally looks at you for the first time since he got home. “I did?”
You nod, smiling at him. “Of course, you fucking did because you are Jamie Tartt. Best girl dad ever, Jamie Tartt.”
He cups your cheek before leaning in to kiss you.
You pull back with a gasp as a wide smile dances across your lips.
“What is it?”
“Someone’s also trying to show you that they’re your number one fan with their strong kicks.” You grab his hand and hold it over the spot.
The exciting moment between you two is broken when a certain ex-player’s hand hovers over your belly.
“Come here, you quiet old man.”
“Oi.”
You raise a brow at him.
“I’m not that old.”
“I found it.”
You all turn to find your daughter trapped underneath the blanket.
“Roy, go help her before she trips, please.”
Your boyfriend takes this opportunity to whisper sweet promises to the baby.
Once your daughter is free and can see properly, she watches the two of you. “What are you two doing?”
“Your sibling is kicking,” he tells her.
Her eyes widen and she rushes towards you, wanting to feel the kicks as well.
Jamie grabs her hand so the two of them can feel the baby kicking together.
You glance over at Roy, who’s set the blanket off the side; he waves at you before leaving.
“Are you two having fun?”
They nod, not wanting to break their concentration.
You groan, throwing your head back.
“What? What is it?” Jamie asks, worried something’s wrong.
“You two keep pushing the baby onto my bladder and guess what?”
“I’ll help you up.” He gets you up with no problems. He leans closer to your ear, whispering, “all you need to do is ask, darling.”
You narrow your eyes to him. “Really? You really want to get cheeky with me, Tartt.”
He only smiles and walks with you to the bathroom.
“Go spend time with your daughter before she’s old enough to go out on dates.”
“Don’t do that to me.” And he’s back in the living room.
You chuckle, finding it too easy to rile him up.

Do you have any headcanons about averyjameson getting engaged when they're older?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, let's get to business. In all honesty, I'm kind of not ready to think about them older and engaged and yet I literally have an idea for a fic with their first child. Here you go:
Jameson proposes in Tuscany when they're on a trip to Italy (don't know why, just feels right).
When he was planning for the ring he was going to get her, he asked Libby and Max for their input. They happily helped him create a list of things before heading off to a jeweler. At this point, he hadn't told any of his brothers he was planning to propose but he did have a talk of sorts with Nash at a previous 911.
Nan helped him look through designs in her collection and connected him with an old friend of his grandfather's that helped create some of the most valuable pieces for his grandmother. The final design of the engagement ring is an oval emerald on a gold band with some fancy engravings (elegant but simple as put by Max).
Once he had the ring, he finally confirmed to Nash that he was planning to propose but let him know to not say anything to Xander or Gray yet. His brother promised and gave him tips on how to approach Toby for his blessing since that was his next step.
Now, this part of the plan is delayed for several weeks as all confident Jameson for once in his life is not feeling confident and so, after drinking a shot of bourbon for a boost, he made his way to a diner to meet with his adopted uncle.
After some small talk, Toby made him cut to the chase and although he gave Jamie a hard time, he tells him that he has his blessing and that he's grown to be a better man than him or his grandfather. Jameson cries just a little on the way home but he tells himself that was just the wind biting at his face because it was cold.
Fast forward to him planning a summer trip for him and Avery in the Mediterranean and he's finally told his other brothers. They congratulate him and eagerly give him suggestions along with Libby and Maxine and soon they share a Pinterest board with all these plans and aesthetics. And soon, it's time to jet off to Italy.
With a week long affair, Jameson is both excited and dying on the inside. Avery is pretending to be none the wiser.
Before they left, he packed her an emerald green summer dress for the day of the proposal.
They have fun at the beach, go to Florence and Pisa, make funny poses at the Tower of Pisa, horseback riding at the winery, eat overly expensive gelato and cannolis, and consume as many pasta types at they dare (no, seriously, it was a dare; you guess).
Meanwhile, every day of the week, he goes to practice proposing in the bathroom mirror. His hands get clammier with each passing day as Friday comes near.
He calls Nash and Gray for reassurance to calm down. Unfortunately, he wanders the halls more restlessly at night with the ring in his pocket.
Finally, Friday arrives. No going back. He has the day set; another day in town, then a romantic wine dinner looking out over the mountains at sunset.
He tries his utmost to keep himself distracted from the evening ahead but hour after hour goes by and soon they're back at the house, washing up and getting ready for dinner.
While Avery is in the shower, he sneaks out the dress and puts it one the bed and writes "Wear me if you dare." on a piece of paper.
He leaves for the living room and practices his lines again as he waits for her.
After a long hour, she comes and they head out to the area he set up dinner. Of course, Avery has been suspicious this whole time but hasn't called Tahiti because she is certain he's going to finally break without her even asking.
She thanks him for the dress and kisses him on the cheek, secretly wondering what the special event is. Was it the special lady's intuition telling her that there was a ring coming out soon?
They talk and talk while they wine and dine on his grandfather's finest white wine. She is itching to ask but the pasta dinner is hitting that good. Jameson is barely able to eat dinner from being so nervous.
Just as she is about to make him spill the beans, he literally just shouts, "Marry me!" Avery is taken aback, her mouth wide open and for a long moment, she doesn't say anything as her boyfriend is staring at her panicked, realizing he messed up.
Before he could start hating himself, Avery literally dives into his arms without a word and hugs him. Confused, he hugs her back and they sit like that for a long moment, her on his lap. Then, she whispers, "Yes, Jamie. I'd love to marry you."
When she pulls back Jameson is staring at her in wonder and as he's about to reach for the ring, she kisses him. A bit dazed after the kiss, he's still holding the ring box unopened and she asks if she can open it. He nods and then lets her.
She starts crying when she sees the ring and he gently takes her hand, asking if he can put it on her. Avery just nods and holds out her shaky hand as Jameson tries to stop his own hand from trembling while he puts it on.
The two kiss again and then Avery decides to go run through the vineyard, Jameson chasing after her as she heads for the stable.
They go riding and then stop in the middle of the field, spinning in circles until out of nowhere, they just start swaying to invisible music.
They don't sleep a wink that night as they whisper excitedly the whole time until early morning when they finally are too tired.
Little do they know that Xander has planned an entire engagement party waiting for them when they return from Italy.
The last two days they travel for a weekend beach date.
That took everything I got to make this. Thanks for the request, I hope you enjoy reading this long ass list.

I could feel his heart tapping against my fingertips, a bit quicker now, a subtle blush coloring his cheeks. His blonde eyelashes looked almost see-through in the sunlight, his blue eyes sparkling and locked onto mine, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. I brought my hands up to his face, running my fingers over it slowly. He let out a sigh, lightly shutting his eyes like he'd been waiting for my touch his whole life.

✦ a/n: Hi, everyone! I posted this chapter a little later than usual because I was too busy today, but it's here! Sorry for the delay. Also, some of you may have already seen this, but: I missed writing about Dave and Nore happy together a lot these last few days, so I posted a small extra chapter set somewhere between chapters 16 and 17 for all my Dave and Nore enjoyers 🖤 You can read it here. Hope you liked reading, feedback is welcome!
✧ you don't have to leave, you could just stay here, with me / forget all the party police, we could find comfort in debauchery ✧
“I should've been there with you,” James's voice, annoyed and concerned, crackled through the phone pressed to my ear. “You shouldn't have dealt with this on your own. I should've been right there beside you.”
“James, it's alright,” I mumbled, sparking a cigarette, propping myself against the payphone stand. It was late afternoon, and I’d dialed James to tell him all about my disastrous mission in Los Angeles. If I wasn't in tears at the moment, it was only because I'd already exhausted my supply in the hours before.
“Of course, it's not okay!” he burst out, matching my frustration. “Did you check with the neighbors? Wasn't there some dude you knew living downstairs?”
“Yeah, Ellefson. He bailed too. Apparently, they moved out together last week. Left no trace for anyone to follow,” I finished the sentence with a tremor in my voice, eyes burning with fresh tears, but I wasn't going to break down now. Not while James was on the line, his concern clear in every word he spoke.
“Fuck. What a mess,” he muttered. “Hey, it's gonna be alright. I think I've got his mom's address; I can try reaching out to her. We'll find him, Nore.”
“Thanks, James,” I said, feeling a bit better knowing that even if the day had turned to crap, he still had my back.
“I'm sorry about all this Pat shit. Had no clue she'd pull a stunt like that.”
“It's fine…”
“No, Nore, it's not. You know, you said the right thing to her. I never want to see that girl again. But I can hop over to Los Angeles if it means making her apologize to you,” he declared, his voice carrying a slightly menacing edge that hinted he might have wanted to go beyond a simple apology.
“James, you really don't have to do that. It'd be just playing into her drama,” I let out a heavy sigh. “All I want is to find Dave and sort this mess out once and for all.”
“We'll track him down, Nore. I promise. Everything's gonna be fine,” James tried to assure me, and I managed a small smile. There was something kinda sweet about how he was going all out to cheer me up, genuinely putting in the effort to help me out, just because it'd make me happy.
James was just impossible not to like.
“I know, Jamie,” I replied, letting the warmth of my smile show in my voice. “Thank you.”
The rest of February breezed by quickly; I suddenly realized that the one-year anniversary of my move to San Francisco had quietly passed. It seemed pretty wild how everything that had unfolded in the last few months had managed to cram into a year, shaping me in more ways than I could express. It was like I'd been a part of the boys’ life forever, like I couldn’t quite picture who I was without them in the frame.
March rolled in, bringing the end of winter closer and closer. As the days lit up and warmed, James and I kept our long-distance communication going. The phone calls from San Francisco to Long Beach, initially a bit spaced out, soon became almost a daily ritual, and I found myself eagerly anticipating those moments in an entirely new way. Sweet words of affection began to find their way into our conversations more frequently. I had to admit, I missed James more than I'd care to confess — not just the tour moments but also his touch, the sound of his voice and laughter, the blue in his eyes, and even the warmth of his kisses and the feel of his body against mine.
Being back at my parents' house had its perks: with no job on my plate and studies yet to kick in, I found myself drowning in free time. I dedicated most of it to diving into my studies and building up a solid portfolio in visual arts, gearing up for the application grind at the San Francisco Art Institute. The prospect of being in the same city as Cliff and the guys again had me stoked, but in a genuinely good way — I could barely contain my excitement for things to click into place.
Another thing gobbling up my time was my newfound camaraderie with Charlotte, one of my old high school friends. She’d been pouring her heart into her debut starring role in a theatre play, and I'd been chipping in as an unofficial production assistant, giving me a reason to hang out with her and break free from my parents’ house for a bit. On a bright Wednesday morning, the moment I stepped into the auditorium where the theater troupe was fine-tuning their craft, Charlotte threw me a curveball with an unexpected ask.
“Nore!” she squealed with excitement upon spotting me, rushing over and grabbing my hands in hers. Her green eyes looked almost teary, and her lips formed a small pout. “Thank goodness you're here. Everything's going haywire today, and I'm not sure if we can sort it out!”
“What’s going on, Charlie?” I inquired, intrigued, as I shrugged off my jacket, tossing it onto one of the chairs in the vacant audience area. “Did the dressing room light decide to bail on us again? You know I'm useless with those things.”
“Of course not!” she retorted, indignant, and I released a low chuckle.
“Just pulling your leg. What's up?”
“I need you to act in the play.”
I blinked, puzzled, furrowing my brow as I crossed my arms.
“You... Hold on, what? Charlie, the play is in two weeks.”
“I know!” she sighed, slumping into one of the chairs, defeated. “Why do you think I'm so desperate? One of the actresses can't perform anymore. And now the director wants to cancel the play because we won't be able to find a replacement on time!”
“And you want me to step in.”
“Yeah!”
“In a play that's premiering in fifteen days?”
“Nore, you've always been fantastic in our school's Drama Club…”
“No way, Charlie! How am I supposed to pull that off?”
“Nore, please, please, please?” she clasped my hand in hers, her eyes pleading. “It's my first lead role, I've been rehearsing for months! I promise to help you with the lines, I'll do anything!”
I sighed, resigned.
“Fine. But you owe me one,” I replied, and she let out an excited squeal before hugging me.
“Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! You won't regret it, I promise!”
Well, she was right — I didn't regret it. Actually, practicing for the play turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought. Plus, scoring some free tickets to hand out to my friends and family made me care a bit less about the crazy deadline to cram all those lines into my brain. Charlie and I basically lived in that auditorium for the next few days; I'd roll in there in the morning and wouldn't bail until way into the evening.
When Saturday rolled around, I decided to escape to San Francisco. Stuff for the band was picking up speed after those European shows. After snagging a deal to record the second album at a studio in Denmark, the guys figured a bash was in order to toast to the good news, and obviously, I had to be there. I arranged with my parents to spend the weekend over at Cliff's place with the boys. Luckily, they had some San Francisco business on the horizon, and agreed to drop by and give me a ride back to Long Beach when it was time to head back home.
I let out a sigh as I hit the old house where I used to live with Cliff, Dave, James, and Lars. It was like nothing had changed, memories still stuck in every nook and cranny; the first chats with the guys, James getting less shy as we got tighter, my first kiss with Dave, the first time we slept together, drinking together, smoking together, laughing together, loving together. And it stung, a sharp and dry ache deep in my chest, with the gut feeling that things would never, ever be the same again.
I mixed with the crowd, strolling into the living room; the first familiar face I bumped into was James', whose eyes lit up seeing me, a grin breaking out. He hustled over, grabbing my face and planting a surprise kiss on my lips, leaving me gasping, my face heating up in a flash.
“James!” I blurted out, pupils dilated in shock as I took a step back.
“My bad. Was that a no-go?” he mumbled, a persistent grin suggesting he had no regrets about the kiss. “Just damn happy you showed up.”
“I’m happy to be here too,” I whispered, my face still warm from his gentle touch.
“Geez, you two are such a clingy couple,” Cliff chimed in, coming over. I blushed, pulling James's hands off my face and avoiding eye contact.
“We're not a couple, Cliff,” I muttered, voice low, his comment knotting something strange and uncomfortable in my chest. “Excuse me, I need a drink,” I spun around, heading for the kitchen.
“Nore, hold up,” Cliff tagged along, standing by my side as I raided the fridge for a beer. “What was that just now?”
“Nothing,” I grunted, popping the kitchen door open and stepping into the backyard. Cliff sighed but joined me, leaning against the porch railing.
“Nothing? Seriously? You're not gonna start keeping secrets from me now, after 19 years?” he came closer, tilting his head to be right in my line of sight, impossible to ignore. I sighed, rolling my eyes at his persistence. “Hey. You and James weren't, like, a thing or something?”
“It's not like that,” I grumbled. “It's just... There's just too much going on, Cliff...”
I told him everything then: how James and I had decided to give in to our feelings during the tour, how I’d tried to find Dave after coming back, how everything went wrong, and now I had no clue where he was. And maybe involving James in all this was a mistake because, frankly, with each passing day, I found myself liking him more while still stuck on my feelings for Dave.
“Well, that sucks,” he remarked after I spilled my story, prompting a nervous little laugh from me. “So, you do like James, then?”
“Of course I like him,” I replied, with a resigned sigh.
“You like him, and yet you were upset because he kissed you just now?” he pressed on, and I rolled my eyes.
“Cliff, it's not that simple…”
"No, I get it ain't," he said, sparking up a joint, taking a slow drag before locking eyes with me, dead serious. "I get you still love Dave. I get you're on this quest to find him, and I'm betting it's gonna happen, Nore. You and him, you'll cross paths again 'cause I know you're head over heels for the guy. I'm pretty damn sure you two will work things out. But..." He hesitated, and I shot him a puzzled look. Cliff usually had his words lined up tight. It wasn’t like him to be unsure about anything.
"But?" I prodded, curious. He let out a sigh.
"But things are changing at warp speed for us, Nore," He handed over the joint, and I grabbed it, taking a slow drag. "We're growing up, for crying out loud. I mean, we're about to cut an album in Europe, can you believe that? A year ago, who would've thought? Things are moving quick, do you really wanna skip the chance to catch some happiness along the way? You don't know when you'll stumble upon Dave. No idea how long it'll take to straighten things out with him. Are you gonna keep dodging happiness till then?"
"Cliff, what are you getting at?"
"What I'm getting at, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but fine, what I mean is maybe you should quit fighting what you feel for James. I mean, you liked him before, but let's be real, you rolled back from Europe completely in love with him, didn't you?"
In love. Those words set my face on fire, my heart doing a marathon, and a zillion butterflies doing somersaults in my stomach. My first instinct was to argue with Cliff, but deep down, he wasn't totally off, was he? If I already had a soft spot for James before, now it was more like a full-blown obsession. It felt like a hunger, like I needed him to fill some kind of void inside of me. And somehow, this crazy feeling coexisted with the love I held for Dave, for the empty space he’d left behind. Everything was so damn new that I could barely wrap my head around it, let alone figure out how to handle it.
"I'm not in love with him," I mumbled weakly, and Cliff chuckled, giving me a shoulder hug.
"You're a lousy liar, you know that?" he said, and I rolled my eyes.
"Hey," a familiar voice called, and I glanced up, blushing when I locked eyes with James, propped against the door frame with a beer in hand. "Nore, everything cool?"
"I'm gonna find Lea," Cliff announced, sidestepping and shooting me a suggestive look before leaving me solo with James. I watched him saunter away, feeling my face heat up, and then turned my attention to James, his blue eyes zeroed in on mine.
"You alright? Sorry about that kiss earlier. Didn't mean to upset you," he said, his voice low, stepping close enough for me to sense the heat of his body. His attentive eyes studied my face, as if trying to decode my feelings from my expression. I sighed, my heart racing in a totally new rhythm when he gently cupped my face, resting my hands on his chest as he leaned in.
"James," I murmured, my voice shaking, almost like I was saying his name for the first time. He gave me a slight smile, his gaze zeroing in on my slightly parted lips with poorly disguised desire.
"What?"
"I don't want you thinking I'm here with you just 'cause I haven't tracked down Dave yet."
"I'd never think that," he whispered, edging even closer.
"James," I murmured again, almost like a prayer, and the way I said his name seemed to light up something hungry in him. He yanked me closer, his mouth crashing onto mine with a deep, needy moan. I sighed, trembling, my fingers tangling in his hair as I surrendered to his kiss, the dawning realization that I couldn't resist him any longer.
Actually, that I didn't want to.
He backed off, peppering soft kisses on my lips before resting his forehead against mine. His hands clung to my waist, tugging me close enough for our bodies to touch.
"I think we should head to my room," he murmured, flashing a smile. I chuckled softly, throwing my arms around his neck, and pulled him into another kiss.

I dare you to let me go
(this is part 2 of my fic. Enjoy reading!)
Part 1 ↓
JAMESON
Jameson was standing in a maze. Green bushes everywhere. And whichever way he went, the end was green too. Except now. Now, a 5"6' hazel-eyed brunette was standing there.
"Heiress." He tried taking a step toward her, but the distence seemed to stay the same, maybe it was getting bigger. "Where are we?"
"Not we. You. You seem… stuck."
"I'm not stuck. I'm-"
"-fine? Is that your latest lie? Then why am I here, Jameson? again?"
Where was he? And why did Avery seem younger?
"It's not a lie, heiress." Jameson was starting to get angry now, he turned around and started walking away. Avery- or the girl who at least looked like her- spoke louder.
"I'm not her, you know. Maybe the real one doesn't even exist anymore."
"Shut up."
"Maybe she just-"
"Shut up!-"
"Jamie, I'm gonna start yoddling loudly until you get your ass out here!" That was Xander, but Jameson had no regard for a yoddling threat between his gasping for air like a drowning man. Apparently, the things that plagued him during the day had started following him into his sleep now.
He pushed away the sheets and picked up his shirt from the night before. Under it was that box. They same green box. How long had he had it now? An year? Two? And did it matter, really?
You're fine. Just get this done.

Jameson got dressed and got to the room. He was surprisingly on time, the only reason being Xander making good on his threat to yoddle. He was actually decent at it, but annoying, nonetheless.
"Do you believe you're being paid to arrange a funeral?" Grayson's tone walked the line between a question and an accusation.
"I need this entire-"
"That's enough! Thank you" Lyra inserted herself in the conversation and dragged Grayson away by his arm from the event planners, who went back to doing their thing.
The dinner last night may have been non-existent the last straw a disaster, but this party's going to be epic. Besides, Avery would at least be home for at least a while on her own birthday, right? She'd promised.
Jameson helped himself to one of the appetizers on the long table covered in platinum and shades of violet. He hadn't had breakfast. After everything was set, he excused himself to the garage and tried calling Avery.
"Your call has been-"
"You're call has-"
"You're ca-"
He plunked his phone down with force. Luckily, it landed on the soft leather of the Valkyrie's seat.
"You alright there?" Nash. It was Nash. Why was everyone so concerned all of a sudden? Avery had just missed her own birthday that he'd planned for days. Not a big deal. At all. Janeson rolled down the car's window glass.
"I am fine."
"You're staying to sound more like Gray than Gray used to himself," Nash took that as his cue to get in the passanger seat.
"Whatever you and Avery have going on, just talk to-"
"Do you think I haven't tried?" It came out slow with a hint of frustration. They were face to face now. "There's always another call, there's always another problem, there's always another person expecting the most from her and she's trying to live up to them more and more."
To that, Nash had no answer. They just say like that for a while.
"Try talking to her today. She might just listen." He patted Jamie on the shoulder and got out.
-------------------------------------------------
"I can't feel my faxing legs," Max whispered, sitting in a crouch. After a long day of planning Avery's party, everyone was sitting in a crouch waiting for her to come and surprise her.
"Sit on me, then," Xander whispered back to her.
"Oh, get a room you two!" Libby whisper-yelled at them, just as the door rattled.
"SURPRISE!!"
"Oh, my God!" Said… Mrs. Laughlin, who almost dropped the tray of crab cakes in her hands.
"Ugh. I can't crouch for much longer! Where is this beach?" Max whimpered, kicking her feet.
After two hours, all the dishes were half-empty, the wine half-drunk, and half the people previously in the room had dispersed.
"So-"
"Before you say what your about to say, Gray, just like everyone else in this house, I'm okay, and so is Avery."
Grayson frowned. "I've been where you are, Jamie. If you have to keep telling yourself you're okay, you definitely aren't."
Jameson felt Grayson call out to him as he stormed out walked away.
He was done. He was so done. With his brothers' concern, with Lyra's unnecessary inputs.
With Avery.
The floodgates were open now, just like the door of his bathroom as he slammed it back shut. He was angry, no, frustrated. He was frustrated at the dinner, he was frustrated as he threw the green box from his pocket at the sink, he was frustrated as he felt the mirror shatter beneath his knuckles. He could suddenly see a thousand reflections of himself. But every reflection in every piece of the shattered mirror was a shell of what Jameson Hawthorne used to be. How he used to be.
He staggered back, still staring at his reflections until his back hit the door as he slowly sunk to the floor. And just like that, the tears and the memories came rushing out to the surface.
"Maybe the real one doesn't even exist anymore."
"She told me she's going to make it up to you"
"If you have to keep telling yourself you're okay, you definitely aren't."
"How many times have you had your heart broken over the last five years?"
And with the painful memories and the exploding bottled up feelings came crystal clarity, for the first time in a long time.
I can't do this anymore.
Loving Avery had made him love himself too, it made him realise his self-worth. He got to see what he deserved. But this, right now? He didn't deserve this. He didn't deserve to pretend to be happy. He didn't deserve to settle for a shell of what him and Avery used to be. He always says he can't imagine a life without Avery, maybe that was never a good thing. He had to start living for himself.
And there was only one way to do that.

[1.]
Your best friend pointed it out first.
Jamie was going home for Christmas. You were bummed when he first told you he’d be back in Canada for the break, but you knew not all of your friends could stick around for the holidays. Not everyone in your life was born and raised in Seattle, unfortunately.
“You’ll be at the game on the 22nd right?” he asked.
“Don’t I come to all the home games?” You teased. You were a season ticket holder after all.
When Seattle got a hockey team, you were quick to snatch up season tickets thankful to finally have a professional team in your hometown. You never thought you’d end up friends with one of the players–actually multiple players thanks to Jamie dragging you to just about every Kraken function in the last three years. At the beginning of this season, Jamie insisted he give you one of his free tickets to the home games so that you wouldn’t have to pay for tickets, but you declined.
“Do you think you could take me to the airport after?”
A frown tugged at the corners of your lips. Because, no you really didn’t want to take him to the airport. You wanted your best friend to stay in Seattle with you for the holidays.
“Sure Jame,” you answered.
“You’re the best,” Jamie sighed. “Do you wanna hang out tomorrow?”
The team had just gotten back from a roadie. You were settling into bed when Jamie called, him doing the same. You hadn’t seen him for a week. You did text every day, and you facetimed once after a rough game. He also called you twice, once because he was bored on his day off and the other one because you got off work late and wanted to be on the phone with someone while you walked from your office to your car.
“Yes! I work in the morning, but my evening is free.”
“We’ve got optional morning practice so I’ll probably go to that tomorrow. Come over after work?”
Not that anyone could see, but you had the biggest grin on your face. “Sounds like a plan.”
Almost immediately after hanging up with Jamie, one of your girlfriends called. You’d been promising to hang out with her for the last two weeks but neither of your schedules had lined up.
“Ok we need to do something before Christmas. Give me the days you’re free.”
“Tonight and the 23rd,” you answered her.
“Dammit!” She swore. “I’m free tomorrow and the 22nd.”
“Jamie and I just planned to hang out tomorrow. And by just planned I mean literally I got off the phone with him not even a minute before you called.”
“Ugh,” she grunted. “Fuck him. Oh wait… you’re trying to right?”
You giggled nervously. “Shut up.”
“You’re probably hanging out with him on the 22nd too huh?”
“There’s a game that night and then I’m taking him to the airport after.”
“Oooh taking him to the airport… that’s a big step Y/N.”
Even though she couldn’t see you, you rolled your eyes at her. “I’ve taken him to the airport multiple times.”
“Yeah you suckered yourself into being his ride. It starts with just one quick offer and then pretty soon it’s just a given that you’ll be taking them.”
“And then they leave you two years later for their intern?” It was a low blow but you didn’t mean it in a hurtful manner, nor did she take it that way. She’d gone through the grieving process of her last boyfriend dumping her and immediately getting with his intern and now you were able to joke about what an asshole he was.
“Exactly!”
“Good thing me and Jamie aren’t dating then,” you added.
“You could be though. It’s pretty obvious you two like each other as more than just friends.”
You decided to change the subject. “What are you doing on the 24th?”
[2.]
Penny pointed it out next.
Jamie’s family was at the game. You recognized Penny almost instantly, it’s not every day a multiple Olympic medalist goes to a Seattle Kraken game– that and you’d been with Jamie on a few occasions when he’d FaceTimed her. It took you a minute to recognize his parents, but you’d seen photos of them at Jamie’s place and on his phone and figured the two people walking with Penny had to be them.
You didn’t hesitate to introduce yourself when Penny joined you at the glass, likely waiting for the team to come out for warmups.
“You’re Jamie’s sister right?” You asked. You held your hand out, giving her a big smile. “I’m Y/N. Jamie’s best friend.”
“I thought you looked familiar,” she said and shook your hand. “Nice jersey. I’m sure it gives Jame an ego boost to see you in it,” she teased.
“He won’t let me wear anyone else’s number. Says it goes against the best friend code.”
Penny rolled her eyes with a laugh.
“So, what are you doing here? Jamie said he was going home for Christmas.”
“We wanted to surprise him. He comes home every year. It’s about time we go to him.”
“Hey Pen.” Jamie’s mom had met you both at the glass, smiling at you the whole time.
“Hey mom. This is Y/N,” Penny introduced for you.
You swore his mom’s smile got bigger. “We’ve heard a lot about you. Jamie’s so grateful for your friendship. I’m Allison.” She stuck her hand out and you shook it.
“Jamie’s gonna be so excited to see you guys.”
And he was. When Jamie saw the four of you at the glass during warmups, his smile grew ten times its original size.
“Hey, come find us after the game, ok? We’re gonna hang out and wait for Jame and you should stay and hang out too.” Penny asked, just as they were all about to make their way back to their seats as the game was about to start.
“I will. I’m technically his ride anyway,” You laughed. “I was supposed to take him to the airport tonight.”
When you’d met up with everyone after the game, Jamie insisted you come back to his place with him and hang out even longer. And you couldn’t tell him no when he practically begged you to come over.
After their parents went to bed, Jamie suggested a movie night with you and Penny. Except thirty minutes into the movie he laid his head down on you like he did during most movie nights and it wasn’t long before he had fallen asleep.
“You can’t tell him I told you this but he totally has a thing for you,” Penny spilled suddenly.
You couldn’t help but smile. “You think so?” you asked, glancing down at the man in question asleep with his head on your lap.
“I don’t just think, I know so. You should give it a shot.”
Your cheeks felt warm at her words. Jamie was your best friend, but of course you always wondered if there was something more there. There was for you, but you never wanted to put your friendship in jeopardy by admitting it.
“I know you like him too,” Penny added.
And maybe she was right.
[3.]
Schultzy nagged Jamie about it for weeks.
“Come on man,” Schultz groaned, eyeing you across the room. “You mean to tell me you haven’t hit that once?”
They were all at the new years team party. You were busy chatting with a few of the girlfriends that had come tonight. Jamie figured you must’ve just been complimented on your outfit tonight as you had glanced down at yourself and turned side to side just slightly, showing off more of the attire.
Jamie shook his head. “And don’t say it like that. Have some respect, man,” Jamie scolded.
Justin put his hands up. “Sorry.”
“So can I hit that?” Vince teased.
Jamie glared at him. “No. And not because I like her, but because she deserves better than some horny hockey guy.”
“It was a joke,” he defended.
“It wasn’t funny.”
Vince nodded his head. “Sorry. You’re right.”
“And you’re positive you don’t like her?” Justin asked.
“We’re just friends,” Jamie swore. He couldn’t take his eyes off of you though, and the guys he was sitting with caught on.
— —
It was the same during warmups when Jamie had caught your eye. You hardly ever missed warmies during home games and it had now become part of Jamie’s routine to skate by you and place his hand on the glass, you doing the same. It started as a high five, but your hands began lingering longer and longer each time.
“If you don’t like her, why do you always look at her with those lovey dovey eyes?” Schultz chirped, giving Jamie a slight check when he had skated away from you.
“I don’t,” Jamie defended.
Schultz rolled his eyes.
“I don’t!” Jamie yelled after Justin as he skated off.
— —
“Hey, drinks at my place tonight.” Brandon caught Jamie just as he was leaving the rink.
“Sorry man. I can’t tonight. Y/N’s got car troubles.”
Jamie was on his way to pick you up. You’d had a bad day at work, but the icing on the cake was that your car wouldn’t start so you were stranded there. You called him in a fit just shortly after he’d gotten to the locker room.
“Ditching us for Y/N again?” Schultz asked, throwing his arm around Jamie’s shoulder. “You’re sure you don’t like her?”
Jamie rolled his eyes. “Let it go.”
“Dude, you’re ditching out on guys night for her. It’s pretty obvious you like her as more than just a friend.”
“She had a bad day, man. I’d do the same for you if you had a bad day. If you were having car troubles, I’d come jump ya, or pick you up.”
Schultz snorted. “Yeah ok. Even if that was true, you gotta admit that it’s different with her.”
And Jamie didn’t want to admit it, but he knew that was true.
[4.]
It was Jamie’s mom who actually got him thinking about it though. Of course it had crossed his mind multiple times and he always felt some pang of guilt when he told his friends he didn’t like you like that. He felt jealous when guys would flirt with you, extra jealous if it was guys on his team.
Whenever you two were alone, he sometimes wondered if there was something more there than just friends. He tried not to let the thought overwhelm him though.
“So, why do you want my soup recipe again?” Allison asked.
“Y/N is sick. I was gonna make it for her and bring it over.”
“Are you two dating yet?”
“No,” Jamie laughed. “No, Ma. Just friends.”
“Your dad says you look at her the way he looks at me.”
Jamie smiled to himself. “She’s my best friend though. What if I go for it and it doesn’t work out? I don’t want to risk our friendship.”
“What if you go for it, and it works out better than you ever expected?” she countered.
“So that soup recipe?” Jamie changed the subject.
Allison wouldn’t let him. “How many of your friends would make you homemade chicken soup when you’re not feeling well?”
“Y/N would,” Jamie answered quickly. “Oh.” He realized then what his mom was hinting at. Maybe there was something there. Something more.
“It’s obvious to everyone else, but oblivious to you two,” Allison laughed. “Alright. You got a pen ready to write this down?”
When his mom has finished repeating the recipe, Jamie brought up something he never thought he’d ask, or at least didn’t think he’d ask so soon. “Hey Ma… when did you know that you were falling for dad?”
— —
[+1.]
The knock startled you. Even though you weren’t expecting anyone, you knew who it was before you even opened the door.
“Hey,” you rasped.
“Hey,” Jamie greeted with a smile. “Brought ya somethin’” he said, holding out the large container. “Made it this afternoon. It’s my mom’s recipe.”
You tried to get out a thank you, but started coughing before you could. You turned away from Jamie, coughing into your elbow. Your chest hurt, your head ached, being sick was absolutely the worst.
“You don’t have to stay,” you said when Jamie closed the door behind him and toed his shoes off.
“I want to.”
“I don’t want to get you sick.”
“I’m not worried about that.”
You laid down on the couch, pulling your blanket over you. You’d spent most of your day in the same position you were currently in, that was after you had slept until almost 2pm.
“Are you hungry? I can warm up some soup for you,” Jamie asked. He frowned at you in your miserable state. His heart ached.
“Ok,” you said. “But only if you eat some too.”
“Deal,” Jamie chuckled. “I’ll be in the kitchen.”
“I’ll be here.” You tried to smile at him, but couldn’t muster up much. Damn flu.
Five minutes later he was back with two bowls of warmed soup.
You groaned as you sat up. Your whole body ached and from nothing in particular, just the flu bug you’d caught that had run rampant through you. You wrapped the blanket around your shoulders, but still shivered. You’d had a hard time staying warm all day, although the fever would beg to differ.
Jamie placed both bowls on the coffee table and then sat down beside you.
“Seriously, Jame. As much as I want you here, the team will kill me if you get sick.”
Jamie chuckled. “Nah. They’ll kill me for being careless and irresponsible.”
“Exactly! And I like you alive. I don’t know how I’d function with you dead.”
“I’m not gonna get sick. Eat your soup.”
“You’re so demanding,” you teased, rolling your eyes at him.
Jamie handed you the bowl when you were all situated. You hummed around the first bite; the hot broth soothed your sore throat and warmed you right up. And the taste was delicious. You could tell it was his mom’s recipe as it felt like home with every bite you took.
“Wanna watch a movie?” You suggested. Jamie wasn’t going to leave—you didn’t exactly want him to anyway— so you might as well make the most of him being there.
“Sure. Is it still my turn to pick or do you get to this time since you’re sick?” You could never come to an agreement on who picked the movie whenever you’d hung out so you made a deal to just switch off every time. It worked a lot better than anything else you’d tried—which included everything from rock paper scissors to whoever’s house you were at.
“Rules are rules. You pick.”
You grabbed another blanket from your bedroom as Jamie found a movie to watch. You laid down with your head on the armrest and Jamie sat roughly in the middle, letting you rest your legs across his lap. You had one blanket to yourself but shared the second one you’d brought out and you both settled in for the show.
You were nearly asleep when Jamie cleared his throat. You turned to look at him just as he asked, “Hey, do you ever think of us as more than just friends?”
He hoped you couldn’t feel the way he was physically shaking as he asked the question. Little did you know that he’d tried to ask it about a million times since coming over. He’d played it over and over in his head, what words he was going to use, how to phrase it, when the perfect moment to ask it would be, how you would respond, if you felt the same way, and if this would change everything for you both. So yeah, he was shaking and terrified.
But to his surprise, you seemed totally calm as you responded. “Often, yeah. Do you?”
“Yeah,” he nodded. “You know other people think of us that way too? Like they think we should be a couple ya know.”
You laughed softly. “Yeah, I know.”
“How come you’ve never brought it up?”
You sat up from the couch, your legs still thrown across Jamie’s lap. “Truthfully, I didn’t think you liked me as more than a friend. Well, until Penny brought it up when she was here for Christmas, that you did like me more than that. Since then I’ve wanted to ask but just been too nervous to I guess,” you shrugged.
Jamie nodded, taking a few seconds to process your words. “So do you like me more than just a friend?”
He was suddenly so shy. You couldn’t help but smile.
“Yes, Jame. I have for a while.”
Jamie smiled too. “Y/N, when you’re feeling better, will you go on a date with me?”
“I would love to.”
His smile only got bigger. “You have no idea how bad I wanna kiss you right now. But I’m not going to because I know you won’t let me, because you’re sick.”
You laughed. “You’re exactly right. That too is just going to have to wait until I’m feeling better.”

you ran your fingers over the scar.
running down the back of your right leg, it marked where the incision for your tendon repair surgery had been. finally free of the stitches and leg brace, you were now left with a scar that ran down the bottom of your leg.
it was thick and ugly, the skin still a little red considering how new of a wound it was. the doctor told you it would heal over time, but it’d always be a little visible.
you sighed miserably at the thought of the swimsuit you’d bought a week before the tendon had snapped. you weren’t sure when you’d be able to wear it now.
you knew it wouldn’t be anytime soon.
with the ugliest scar to exist running down your leg, you didn’t want to torment the rest of the world. seeing people try to hide their laughter would be worse than laughing outright.
you pulled your sweatpants down to cover the scar as footsteps padded down the hall. you lay on the couch, a barely touched book on your lap and the t.v. remote somewhere underneath you.
“morning,” jamie kissed the top of your head, stretching out as he made his way to the kitchen. “you want waffles or pancakes?”
you shrugged, half paying attention, “either’s fine.”
jamie turned on his heel immediately, furrowing his brows at your answer.
“what?” you asked, curling in on yourself. the look he was giving you was doing absolutely nothing to motivate your self-consciousness.
“are you okay?” he asked, looking you up and down, almost as if he could diagnose you by a scan.
“i’m fine,” you told him. “this better not be a way to get out of making breakfast.”
“it’s not,” he put a hand to his heart as if he was actually offended. jamie walked closer, kneeling on the ground in front of you. “it’s just, you always have a very strong opinion on either pancakes or waffles. every single time. the fact that you’re saying either is making me a little concerned.”
“i’m just a bit tired,” you tried to smile. “um… i think i’ll take waffles today.”
you patted jamie’s head, hoping it would be enough to send him away. but of course, jamie was a little too attentive sometimes.
“y/n?” he sat down in front of you, taking your hand in his. “i’m not gonna force you to talk, but i’m not an idiot. i know something’s wrong. if you don’t want to talk, i’m gonna respect that. but you don’t have to shut me out, i’m here for you.”
maybe you were absolutely done with all the shit you’d been through ever since your injury, or maybe it was the way jamie was so gentle with you, but before you knew it, you were sobbing in his arms, crying about how ugly your leg looked.
“and i hate it so much, jamie,” you sobbed, sticking your face in his shoulder. “i hate it.”
“hey, breathe,” he rubbed your back, holding you close. “breathe, y/n.”
you took a shaky breath, wiping your eyes as you pulled away.
“i’m sorry, it’s so stupid,” you muttered, shaking your head.
“don’t do that,” jamie muttered. “don’t discredit how you’re feeling. you don’t like it, and that’s fine. but it’s not ugly. not to me, i promise.”
“you’re just saying that because you’re my boyfriend,” you muttered miserably.
“y/n, look at me,” jamie said, tilting his fingers under your cheek to get you to look up. he brought your hand near his back where a scar lay. “you’ve always said you’ve loved my scar, even when i’ve always hated it.”
you began to tear up a bit as jamie continued speaking.
“i promise, y/n,” he kissed your hand, “that your scar is nothing to be ashamed of. if i have to spend the rest of my life loving it, showing you how to love it, i will. i promise.”

I looooooved your Ross fics <33333 I would love if you did more (only if you want to) !!!! You’re an amazing writer :)
I am always, always down to write more Ross fluff! Thank you so much anon ❤️
For the sake of this one, we’re gonna assume he does a lot of interviews, okay? Okay.
Tumblr media
Anniversary
‘Come home to me,’ you pout at the camera and Ross’s grainy form sighs on the other end.
‘I know, baby,’ he tries to pacify but at this point, he looks just as fed up as you feel. ‘I didn’t know the interviews were going to be scheduled in this way.’
There’s no point in rehashing this over and over again but you can’t help it; can’t help holding a small grudge against their management. He’s supposed to be with you right now, not thousands of kilometres away in cold New York. And you’re supposed to be planning your anniversary trip together…
‘Anyway, shouldn’t you be in bed?’ his voice snaps you back to reality.
‘I am in bed.’
‘Smartass,’ he smiles. ‘Go to sleep!’
‘It’s like you don’t wanna talk to me,’ you grumble. He rolls his eyes playfully and mouths “dramatic.”
‘It’s not me who wakes up in a stab-y mood after a late night,’ he adds.
The back and forth continues for a bit longer. Just to bid time, you ask pointless questions (how are the others? Fine. How’s New York? Boring without you. Would you still love me if I was a worm? That one makes him laugh so loud that he gets more than a few odd looks from people around him.)
Eventually, as your eyes start to close on their own, you have no other choice but to say bye to him. He promises to call first thing when he wakes up and you sleepily threaten him not to forget.
That night you dream of his fingers twirling a strand of your hair, you dream of his arms around your waist, you dream of his sleepy voice as he tells you all about his day. You make a mental note to count down the days till he’s back—two extra weeks added to the original timeline. And you make a mental note to send Jamie a glitter bomb.
The next day is sucky (just as Ross predicted). You do, in fact, wake up in a stab-y mood, realise that you’ve run out of coffee at this crucial time and you almost get late to work. By lunchtime, you’re in such dire straits that when he calls, you make him talk to you for ten extra minutes.
Rationally, you know two weeks will be over before you know it but there’s a smaller, irrational part that keeps reminding you that he won’t be here for your anniversary. You keep a reminder of all the days he’s supposed to do interviews and photoshoots, you make sure to wish him luck before each one of them.
As the anniversary approaches, you keep track of your calendar less and less. Because every time you go on it, that date just keeps glaring at you.
The night before, he calls as expected.
‘Three years tomorrow,’ he smiles a big, goofy smile and you can tell he’s in a good mood.
‘Three years,’ you echo. ‘You have a good day?’
‘An amazing day,’ he replies and then gets cut off by loud excited American chatter.
‘Are you still out?’
‘Just out to grab some things,’ he replies vaguely but doesn’t elaborate further.
You try to talk some more but the background noise is so loud that he has to hang up quicker than you’re ready for. You huff and go to your shared closet. He already had to take so many of his clothes with him that you’re left with slim pickings but he promised to leave you his grey jumper (“for use only on the bluest of days”)
‘Today certainly counts,’ you mutter darkly to yourself and then pull it over your head.
Being surrounded by his scent helps a bit but you still toss and turn all night. Scroll through social media aimlessly. Shower him with love and affection on your Instagram stories.
The day is extra cheery and extra clear when you wake up; as if the universe is trying to rub salt in your wounds.
Fortunately, your anniversary is a Saturday. or rather unfortunately, you think bitterly. There’s no work to distract you from today. You make pancakes for one, play his favourite songs and dance to them alone. You pick up your phone and see that it’s nowhere near time for him to wake up. Still, you can’t resist shooting him a few quick texts.
You leave me alone for one anniversary and I’ve started acting like a military wife waiting for her husband to come back from war.
Happy Anniversary, my love
Come back to me :(
They get sent but he doesn’t read them. By 9 a.m. your doorbell rings for the first time that day. Pretty flowers show up at your door with a sweet, handwritten note tucked in them. By 10 another package shows up. This time it’s the most gorgeously, outrageously sexy set of lingerie you’ve ever seen. And it’s in his favourite colour too. By 11, a delivery man shows up with a whole box of cupcakes.
Even when he’s not here, he makes sure to shower you with all the love and affection. Even when he’s not here, you blush at the arrival of each gift and yet you feel his absence pointedly.
By midday, the excitement of the incoming gift dims and now you’re just waiting for him to call.
When the bell rings again, you’re slower to react, you try to guess what it is before opening the door.
Your whole body freezes.
He can’t be…
Surely not…
‘You’re here!’ you scream like a banshee and launch yourself into his already-open arms.
You feel him laugh against you, feel his muscles flex as he picks you off the ground and twirls you around.
‘You’re here,’ you whisper again; this time in disbelief.
‘I’m here,’ he confirms but makes no move to separate himself from you. ‘They cancelled the last photoshoot two days ago. I was going to tell you but then I thought this would be better,’ he confesses guiltily.
You can’t bring yourself to care about the little white lie because he’s here!
‘I’m sorry you didn’t get the holiday I promised you,’ he whispers into the crook of your neck and you instantly feel your body warm up from the way his breath tickles.
‘Fuck the holiday,’ you mumble into his chest and sniffle a little.
You feel him smiling in your hair as he breathes your scent in. You realise you’re still standing at the threshold, his bags still need to be taken inside but none of that matters.
‘My military wife huh?’ he jokes and laughs louder when you slap his chest.
‘Shut up,’ you huff, ‘I was being manipulated into getting emotional.’

The promised Jamie g/t fic!
It's about 2.3k words but I fit everything into one part this time 🥳 Endings will forever be my writing weakness but plz enjoy Jamie helping out a tiny in need!
William called in sick, which meant that Jamie was going to be the one to set up the nets for practice this morning. Roy reasoned that since he already had Jamie up doing training, it wouldn’t be an issue for Jamie to go to the club early and set up the nets. He wasn’t jumping for joy at the idea, but bargaining with Roy was like talking to a brick wall.
Tired from his morning workout and slightly annoyed that he had to be on net duty, Jamie sauntered into the club. His tired fingers fiddled with the keys in his pocket. Finally selecting the right one, he unlocked and opened the door to the locker room. If he could just take one minute, a moment to himself before he put the nets up. A short break from his already tiresome day.
Sitting on the bench in front of his locker, Jamie took a breather. With Zava retired, Roy had amped up his training a bit. Then there was his regular training schedule, followed by PR, and finally another session with Roy. After going, going, going for so long, Jamie really needed time to be by himself. And since he had that time now, he was certainly going to take it.
Practice didn’t start for another hour, and setting up the nets wouldn’t take the entire time. He could close his eyes for a quick nap and get to the nets later. It was a much-needed rest. However, Jamie had only closed his eyes for a few minutes when he heard a small noise coming from the floor.
He didn’t open his eyes immediately. Something probably fell over in the boot room, and Jamie didn’t want to interrupt his break. But the sound was so close, and also so quiet. Boots weren’t that quiet when they fell, so something wasn’t right. Begrudgingly, Jamie cracked his eyes open and glanced around the room. Then, something on the floor caught his attention. He stopped and blinked a few times to make sure he was really seeing what, or rather who was in front of him.
It was a tiny figure resembling a person. They couldn’t have been more than 5cm tall. Jamie couldn’t make out their expression from where he was because everything about them was just so small.
y/n was a borrower. When they had stepped out of their home to get some borrowing done that morning, they had seen Jamie sitting on the bench, eyes closed, presumably asleep. While they didn’t want to go out while Jamie was in the room, they didn’t really have another option. Finding food had been difficult these past few days, especially since there hadn’t been any home games at the stadium recently. So, they ventured out, praying that Jamie would stay asleep so they could grab what they needed and get back safely.
But of course, that wasn’t what happened. As they were fiddling with the strap on their bag which was always too loose, the bag slid off their arm and landed on the floor. It wouldn’t have been a problem if the bag didn’t make a clink on the floor when it landed. They winced at the sound. That was definitely the needle clanging against the floor. They hurriedly picked up the bag and turned to look at Jamie.
At first, he didn’t seem to stir. Just when y/n thought they were in the clear, his eyes fluttered open. They froze as his gaze swept the room, eventually landing on their tiny frame. They held their breath as his eyes grew wide with astonishment and curiosity, two traits that weren’t helpful in y/n's situation. They were trembling but doubted that he could tell. Their heart was beating faster and faster as the anticipation and worry grew in their mind.
“Bloody hell,” Jamie muttered to himself in awe. “Am I going mad?” He leaned forward to see them better. They were just so small, so adorable. He was so curious about them that his tiredness seemed to dissipate. They had his full, undivided attention, which sent a shiver up y/n's spine. Humans were never good to begin with but curious humans... Those were the worst.
“What are… You’re so tiny!” He breathed in awe. There wasn’t any malice in his words, but it all sounded the same to y/n. They stared at him while trying to contain the whirlwind of emotions within them that threatened to break loose. Jamie was puzzled by their lack of response, so he did what anyone would do and stood up to walk closer to them.
“Hey there, little one. Can you understand—“ That was all it took for y/n to snap out of their trance and start running away. Where were they running? What was their plan? The answers were ‘nowhere' and 'there wasn’t one.’ All they wanted to do was get away. Just the sight of THE Jamie Tartt standing up and closing the distance between them was too much. He looked impossibly tall. It just didn’t feel right or safe being near someone so huge.
Jamie had briefly managed to see them in more detail before they sprinted off toward the boot room where the nets were kept. They had a bag that they carried loosely on their back. Their clothes were loose as well, with uneven holes ripped for their arms and legs. Despite being rather thin, they moved efficiently, making good time as Jamie watched them run like their life depended on it.
At this point, anyone could tell that the little borrower was scared, and he felt guilty for not recognizing it sooner. He never meant to come off as intimidating but could understand how his size would be off-putting to someone as tiny as them. Now that he thought about it, his entire approach wasn’t the best. His curiosity seemed overbearing in hindsight. Jamie was at a loss for how to make it up to them when he was the root cause of their terror.
He watched as they ran out of sight into the boot room. He was going to leave them alone, assuming that they didn’t want anything to do with him. Sure, he’d be worried about their safety, but at least he wouldn’t be scaring them anymore. However, he needed to get those nets set up. Going into the boot room right after they did was sure to give them the wrong impression. So he waited as long as he could to give them time to get out of sight. Ten minutes later and with practice approaching quickly, he ventured into the boot room to retrieve the nets.
Instead of seeing an empty room as he usually did, he saw something unexpected. The little borrower from earlier was tangled up in the net on the floor, struggling to break free. Jamie stopped in the doorway, unsure of how to proceed without scaring them more than he already had. They didn’t see him at first and were much more focused on escaping the ropes that confined them.
Once y/n did see him, their struggle intensified. The ten minutes that they spent alone in the net made them start to believe that Jamie had let them be, but seeing him in the doorway proved them wrong. Now that they were trapped, it really hit them that there was nothing they could do to avoid him.
“Hey, hey, it’s alright,” Jamie whispered, trying a more gentle approach. He crouched down to be closer to them, noting how they flinched when he did so. “Did you help to get out of there? Here, let me…” He slowly reached out his hand, not wanting to alarm them.
“NO! Don’t touch me!” Their tiny voice rang out, surprising Jamie. They turned away from him as best they could in the confines of the net and squeezed their eyes closed. It was now that Jamie noticed their trembling. His heart sank as he realized just how scary he must be to them. He felt like a monster. A giant hand, even with positive intentions, would be pretty terrifying if he were only a few centimeters tall. How was he going to get them to believe that he didn’t want to hurt them?
“Alright, it’s okay," he said, putting his hands up in defense. “I won’t touch you if you don’t want me to, okay?” y/n peeked over their shoulder. He actually listened to them, surprisingly. y/n couldn’t piece together his motive. Why was he helping them? The more he talked, the more they wanted to trust him. But there was no way he genuinely wanted to help them, right?
“You’re okay, just breathe. My name’s Jamie, Jamie Tartt.” he kept his voice soft, doing anything he could think of to make them more comfortable. He paused to give them a chance to introduce themselves, but they gave him a blank, slightly worried look. Filling the awkward silence, he spoke again, “That’s okay. You can tell me your name later. I just want you to know that I don’t want to hurt you,”
Another silence. It seemed to last forever until y/n offered the tiniest nod. Jamie let out a sigh. He was relieved that he was finally getting somewhere, even if it was only a nod. “I’m sorry for scaring you. I didn’t mean to come off so… brash.” Jamie’s heart swelled when he noticed that they had turned back around to face him. They were still shaking, but not as much as they were before.
Jamie checked his phone. 5:23. The early comers (mainly, Dani) would be coming to the locker room soon. Considering how scared they were of him, he knew they wouldn’t want to be around anyone else, especially not his more rambunctious teammates. “I won’t tell anyone about you, I promise.” He cast a glance at the door before turning his attention back to the tiny borrower. Their expression was one of disbelief, which was better than fear in Jamie’s opinion.
“Can you get out by yourself? I can help you out of there, but only if you want me to.” Jamie watched as they nodded their head and briefly tried to untangle themselves. Much like before, it wasn’t working. Their face was pensive, as if they knew they couldn’t get free but were trying to come up with a different solution that didn’t involve his help. “Look, my teammates will be here in a few minutes, and I don’t think you want to be here when that happens,” he mentioned gently.
y/n was conflicted. Obviously, they needed his assistance to get free. But it was so terrifying and contradictory to put their trust in a human. They'd been taught to fear humans for so long. But Jamie wasn’t like the humans from stories. He was considerate of how they felt. While he was a little forward at first, he had since mellowed out and seemed genuinely interested in helping them. Despite their reservations about Jamie, one thing that they knew for sure was that they didn’t want to meet ANY of the other Richmond players. Just one giant was enough.
Jamie checked his phone again. 5:26. “Please, let me help you. I’ll be gentle, and careful. You can leave right after I’m done,” he implored, not wanting them to deal with his teammates.
y/n took a deep breath. “Okay,” they finally agreed.
Jamie’s eyes lit up and an earnest smile spread across his face. “Thank you. Now, you hold still the best you can, yeah? This’ll only take a second.” y/n braced themselves as those giant hands came toward them once again.
His fingers were quick but careful as he untangled them from the net’s grasp. Every time his fingers brushed against them, they fought the urge to flinch away. They watched as he worked, mesmerized by how focused he was. They noticed the way he held their arm gently while unlooping a cord that was tied around it. They noticed how he touched them as little as possible to get the job done. It made them feel safe, like they could trust him.
Jamie mumbled encouraging words under his breath in an attempt to keep them calm. “You’re alright… you’re doing great… just a little left and then you can go…” His words kept y/n grounded in what would otherwise be a stressful situation.
“There you are,” he said as he freed them from the net and placed it aside. To his surprise, they didn’t run away immediately.
Looking up at him with a small smile, they said, “Thank you for… helping me. I’m y/n, by the way.”
“You’re welcome.” Jamie was interrupted as he listened to the locker room door open. They exchanged a glance. Someone else was in the locker room, and it was only a matter of time before they entered the boot room and found Jamie and the tiny borrower. Jamie knew that they had to go, despite his desire to talk to them for longer.
“I should go,” y/n said. They looked a bit more on edge, probably because another human was close by.
Jamie’s face fell a little, but he nodded in agreement. “Go on. Don’t worry about 'em finding you. I’ll take care of it.”
y/n nodded and began heading toward a hole in the wall that Jamie hadn’t noticed until they started walking toward it. “Wait!” Jamie blurted out. y/n winced a little from the volume but turned around regardless, curious about what Jamie had to say. “I’m sorry, that was too loud,” Jamie apologized. "I shouldn’t have been so... anyways… I just wanted to ask if I’d see you again?” He asked hopefully.
y/n considered for a moment before making up their mind. “I’ll be around. Cheers.” And with that, they disappeared into the walls.
Jamie smiled to himself and gathered up the nets just as Dani walked in to grab his boots. Jamie offered a greeting and left to go get the nets ready, leaving Dani confused. He had never seen Jamie look so excited to put those nets up.
IT IS FINISHED! Actually took me a day to write the last 300 words bc I was so indecisive. This show is giving me so much life (and g/t content) rn I need to hurry up and finish season 3. Thanks for reading!! Hopefully inspo will strike again soon lol

Jdtz - break for the prompts <3
look, i fucking tried to make this not sad. this was MEANT to be not sad. and somehow i still fucking made it sad godDAMMIT. I was thinking about how the philly boys just like booked Jamie on their all star break trip. And like how Jamie probably had plans already before the trade. And like, what if it wasn't a group trip with the Duckies. What if it was a trip with his boyfriend.......
~
"Trev— I'm sorry, okay?" Jamie sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "They didn't know when I said I had plans with you for break— They didn't know I meant like with you with you, and not like with the team."
He hears Trevor sigh heavily— he thinks he can even hear a hint of a whine. Jamie puts his phone on speaker on the bed next to him and just grabs his hair with both hands, letting the physical pain bring him out of the anxious spiral he's in.
When Trevor finally speaks up, his voice is small and uneven. "Yeah, Jame, I know. I know we agreed to keep this a secret. I just didn't know it would be so hard. I fucking miss you, and I'm just fucking here with my fucking broken fucking foot." A broken sob escapes his lips. "I was looking forward to seeing you, you know?"
"Fuck," Jamie whispers, largely to himself, squeezing his eyes shut, willing himself not to cry. One of them needs to be level-headed, and it's not going to be Trevor. He's thinking. Maybe Trevor can do his rehab from Philly. No, that's probably not—
He's silent a second too long.
"But like, say hi to Yorkie, and like, the boys, for me, yeah? And like, have fun in Cabo," Trevor's wet voice echoes in his empty bedroom.
"Trev—"
"You'll make it up to me."
"I will, I promise. Maybe we can go somewhere cool this summer. Where ever you want."
"Sure, Jimmy. That sounds good."
Jamie can hear the lie in Trevor's voice, the invisible hand around his throat constricting, making it harder for him to speak or breath.
"I love you, Trev," Jamie manages to force out.
"Yeah, babe, love you too." Click.
Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck.
~
Send me a player or pairing + a word, and I’ll write a mini fic about it. (I am running on quite a backlog right now so it might take me a while to get to your request).

hi my lovely !!
i’m such a big fan of your jamie work and was wondering if you would consider writing about jamie using bantr ??
like she works at richmond and jamie had like a massive light bulb moment when he realised who he’s chatting to but also that he may be are falling in love
totally get if not on your radar !! x
Here you go!! I haven’t written a fic with Bantr yet, so this was fun!!
Tumblr media
not saying you’re in love with me
Dating apps aren’t really your thing. But to be honest, are they anyone’s thing? Or are they like resumes, where everyone just pretends they’re easy and lies about their qualifications?
It doesn’t matter, because you’re on one anyway.
Keeley Jones (damn her) had hunted you down and practically begged you to sign up for Bantr.
“Look, you’re young, sweet, and mad fit. Can’t have a bunch of hot footballers in the app and no ladies!”
You had groaned as you put the chicken for today’s lunch in the oven. It’s not easy being Nelson Road’s on-campus chef. There are diet plans to follow, and a million hungry boys all the time.
It also means you can’t escape Keeley when you’re in the middle of prepping lunch. As soon as it’s served and cleaned up, you can go home. But for now, you’re at her mercy.
“Keeley, just because I’m the only twenty-something girl on staff here doesn’t mean that I want to date a footballer. Go bother Samantha. She’s what, thirty and goes on dates every weekend? She’s a perfect candidate.”
Keeley pouts. “I’ll set up your whole profile for you. You don’t even have to tell me if you’re talking to someone, just if you like it, yeah? I’ll help you with meals for a week.”
You point your tongs at her. “You will not even think about touching my food for the rest of eternity,” you warn.
“So you’ll do it, then?” Keeley asks, giving you the full puppy dog expression.
You consider for a moment. You’re single at the moment, and have been for a good long while. It wouldn’t hurt to be on Bantr and anyway, it’s not like anyone will know who you are.
“You’re sure it’s anonymous, then?” you ask.
Keeley jumps up and claps her hands with a squeal. “Totally! Oh my god, I’m so excited for you. I’ll set it up right now. Give me your phone.”
You point to your bag. “It’s in there. Passcode is-”
“Already know it,” Keeley interrupts. You’re not going to question how or why, you just nod and throw your gloves in the trash.
“Hairnet looks great on you, Keels,” you say conversationally.
“Fuck you,” she replies, not looking up from your phone. “And- done! You’re ready to start bantering. Ooh, there are a LOT of men nearby! Wonder how many of them are part of AFC Richmond?”
You shoot her a glare, but she just grins. “Put my phone away,” you tell her.
She slides it back into your bag. “Just promise me you’ll tell me if you like it. I’ll never ask for anything ever again,” she promises.
You roll your eyes with a laugh. “Sure thing.”
STRIKE09 has sent you a message
You grab your phone as soon as it lights up. Keeley’s going to be fucking thrilled that you’re enjoying Bantr this much, and that you’ve been chatting with someone for a week.
You open your phone to your chat.
STRIKE09: finally off work
STRIKE09: how’s ur day
STRIKE09: burn anything?
BAKERGURL22: that was a one time thing!!
BAKERGURL22: work was fine. got off early so I could try a new recipe at home
BAKERGURL22: hbu?
STRIKE09: not bad. lads stole all my lynx so im going to boots to get more
BAKERGURL22: u really know how to romance a girl
STRIKE09: ah shit yea should probably try harder to impress u
You chuckle. Whoever STRIKE09 is, he’s been impressing you from the first day. Always asking questions about you, but never too invasive. Flirty, but not over the top. You’d set your age range in 20s-30s, so you were relatively confident this wasn’t some old creep.
Your phone buzzes so you look down again.
STRIKE09: what did u make today?
BAKERGURL22: lemon cupcakes. not very healthy but super delicious
BAKERGURL22: I have to cook all this healthy stuff at work and sometimes I want to unwind and bake something with too much sugar ya know?
STRIKE09: bet theyre mint
BAKERGURL22: no they’re lemon
STRIKE09: oi, we got a comedian
BAKERGURL22: look, I had to make plain chicken and a salad with fucking olive oil as a dressing today
BAKERGURL22: it was so gross. I apologized 2 the staff but like, it’s what they all requested
BAKERGURL22: worried im gonna be banned from cooking ever again
Across Richmond, Jamie Tartt nearly drops his phone in Boots. He knows exactly who the girl on the other end of this conversation is. The question is, do you know who he is?
He’d assume no, based on the way you’ve been cagey about work. Not private enough though, because he remembers you making a face earlier that afternoon as you said, “Sorry this lunch is such shit, but I guess you all probably don’t care. I swear I’m a better cook than this.”
Jamie had smiled and kept moving, but he’d been thinking about your scrunched nose all day and the sweet way you said sorry.
What are the odds that he matched with someone who worked in the same building as him?
Apparently pretty high.
Jamie’s not really present the entire time it takes him to check out. He’s grateful that the combination of his hoodie plus the tired teen checking him out means he doesn’t have to talk to anyone.
He kicks off his shoes and flops onto the couch as soon as he gets home, trying to figure out what to say. Should he say anything? What if he does and you decide you don’t like him?
He shrugs it off and puts his phone away for the night.
You frown at your phone for the hundredth time this morning.
“What’s got your knickers in a twist?” Keeley asks from her position at the coffee pot.
“Haven’t heard back from my Bantr match. It’s really strange. We were talking last night and then he just stopped responding. He at least sends me a good morning message, but I haven’t even gotten that.”
Keeley gives you a sympathetic look. “I’m sorry, babes. Ghosting is an epidemic. Have you looked at any of your other matches?”
You shake your head and say, “Nah, I wasn’t really interested in them. I really fucking liked this guy. He was sweet, funny, and so good at flirting. I dunno, maybe it’s easier to be like that because it’s all through a screen, but it felt like we had an actual connection.”
“Well, you don’t have to message anyone else if you don’t want to. You can delete the app altogether.”
You say, “Thanks, Keels,” then go back to chopping vegetables. One bright spot of the day is that lunch will be less shitty than yesterday.
You slide the vegetables in the salad just in time. You hear the familiar rumble of AFC Richmond coming in from the field so you plaster a smile on your face and get ready to pass them their lunch.
The rest of the afternoon slides by in a haze. You put an earbud in as you wash the dishes, say goodbye to the office staff, then head out the front door to your car. Someone calls your name and you jump. “Jesus, Jamie.” You turn around to see him push himself off the wall by the door. It looks like he’s been waiting there.
“Sorry,” he says sheepishly. “You headin’ home?”
You say, “Yeah, I only work for part of the day. What are you doing out here?”
Jamie wraps his hands in the front of his shirt and considers what he’s going to say. He’s been thinking about it all morning, and he’s still not sure what the right approach is.
“Look,” he begins hesitantly, “y’know how Keeley’s promoting Bantr?”
“Yeah,” you say.
“I been chatting up this girl, like, and she- I dunno, I really like her. I was thinking we could meet in person but I don’t know if she’ll… fucking… want to.”
Christ, he’s stumbling over his words like a goddamn fool.
You raise an eyebrow and say, “Okay..? Are you looking for advice?”
You’re beyond confused right now. This is the longest Jamie has ever talked to you, and certainly the most awkward he’s ever been. Usually he takes his food with a wink and a “Thank, love.” Sometimes he’ll even through in a compliment.
Jamie untucks his hands just to shove them in his pockets. Fuck it.
“I know it’s you,” he says bluntly. You open your mouth to say something, but he keeps talking. “Figured it out last night when we were talking. You made lemon cupcakes yesterday, yeah? You hated lunch yesterday and said sorry for it like a million fucking times. My username is fucking stupid, just my position and number.”
He stops, unsure where to go from here. Meanwhile, your brain is whirring a mile a minute.
“You’re Strike09,” you say slowly. Jamie nods and you slap your forehead. “Oh god, I was flirting with you! Shit, this is so fucking awkward. I’m so sorry. I wouldn’t have done it if I knew who you were.”
“No, that’s the thing.” Jamie takes a few steps, closing the distance between you. “Don’t think we would’ve done it if we fuckin’ knew each other. But we did. And we like each other.”
Your head is still in your hand. This is too much. You’re conscious of the fact that you’re still in your hairnet.
You look at him just long enough to ask, “So what’s your point?”
“We should give it a go.”
You snort. “Yeah, right. What’s your actual point?”
Jamie looks at you incredulously as he says, “That is my actual fucking point! I like talking to you! I think you’re fit! I know I’m fit and you like talking to me. I sneaked out of training to talk to you. Told Roy I weren’t feeling well, and he’s gonna send someone to check on me soon so if you have a real reason why we can’t try dating, I want to hear it.”
“I don’t,” you admit. “It’s just a lot to process.”
Jamie nods. “Yeah, alright, yeah, sure. Let me know. Um, I have to get back before someone finds me. I’ll see you around.”
“See ya,” you halfheartedly reply.
You think about Jamie the entire way home. You head straight to the kitchen and mechanically begin pulling out baking supplies. Cooking is fun, but it’s also your job. Baking is how you unwind. You’re halfway through an orange tart when you realize what you’re making.
“Damn it!” you cry. Fucking Jamie. You smack down your spatula and grab your phone to text Keeley with a request. She responds almost instantly with Jamie’s phone number.
He picks up on the second ring.
“You rejecting me over the phone now?” he quips.
“How’d you know it was me?” you ask.
“Keeley,” he replies, and you can’t stop a smile from spreading across your face.
“Same,” you say. “I wanted to tell you that I thought about it, and I want to go out with you. I don’t know when you’re free, but I’m around after 3pm pretty much every night. God, that sounds super lame.”
Jamie laughs. “So if you sent me your address, I could be at yours in…”
“Fifteen minutes,” you supply.
“Set a timer, babe,” Jamie says. “Bet I can make it in ten.”

Jamie’s First Day of College!
It’s been an emotional day if not anything else, a long day… a very long day. Jamie could barely stay awake, each second she stood staring at the ceiling thinking she would just call the whole thing off. Drop out before she even began and stay home in Godric’s Hollow, exactly where she belonged. She could stay in the house, even if the idea of it closed her throat up. She could stay with Regulus, that part would be nice. He’d protect her from all of it, she knows he would, but then Effie was coming into her room waking her up and she got all her bags. They stuffed it in the car, and Jamie slid into the passenger seat. Monty was supposed to come with them for the full day and help her move in but something came up with work. Jamie wasn’t even surprised. She’s just tired.
They made a stop at Andy’s and Regulus is already waiting outside, and it’s enough. It’s not a substitution, and there’s still an empty seat in the car, but she’s got Regulus with her. All her other friends have already moved into their dorms, she’s the last one left, and the one going the farthest out of the group, even if it’s only a little over two hours. It feels like forever.
She has one of the single rooms, but she has three roommates she shares the common room with. Only one showed up on the first day, Emmeline, she kept to herself for the most part. Effie went to lectures for the parents, and orientation stuff while Regulus helped Jamie hang up everything in her room. Jamie kept distracting him and dragging him over to the bed instead, shoving her head into the crook of his neck.
“I’m gonna miss you,” she repeated.
He’d bite a whine every time, “I’ll visit.”
“You better.”
They ate lunch together at a place ten minutes from the school, while Jamie tried to soak in every moment she could. Monty showed up when they got back to the school and checked out the dorm, nodding along with everything Effie was saying. He didn’t say much. Jamie didn’t expect him to. Regulus glared daggers at him every time he walked into the room. Jamie didn’t stop him. Maybe she should have. Something inside her should’ve screamed to protect her father, but there was nothing there. She thought it was there at one point, she’s not so sure anymore. She didn’t focus on it much. She unpacked all her clothes instead. She didn’t bring any of the boxes with her. Mainly because Regulus took it all for himself, but also because she doesn’t need it anymore. She just has the clothes she’s wearing now, one of Remus’ old sweaters and an old pair of jeans. Regulus puts up her pictures while she unpacks, keeping the Remus one at the bottom of the box. Acting oblivious when asked about it. Jamie rolled her eyes and kissed him on the cheek, before giving into him and putting the box back in the closet.
All in all. The day has been long, but she’s still searching for more time. They’re standing outside and Effie has her arms wrapped around her, squeezing her tightly. “You’ll call me if you need anything,” Effie tells her, “I’ll drive to you no matter the time.”
“I know,” Jamie tells her.
Effie sighs pulling away, she looking between her eyes, “You swear you’ll call.”
“I swear,” Jamie promises.
“Good,” Effie says, pulling away slightly before she’s hugging her again. “What if you just come back home?” She questions, “We could do that right?”
Jamie laughs wetly, “I’ll call you tonight.”
“Alright,” Effie sniffles pulling away completely. “I love you, you know.”
“I love you too,” Jamie murmurs.
Effie leans in a final time, leaving a kiss on the top of her head before she steps back over to Monty. He doesn’t come over, only nods, holding onto Effie’s waist when she looks over at him in tears. She probably thinks Monty is just overcome with emotions he can’t show it. Jamie isn’t so sure, but Regulus is in front of her now, pulling her face to him.
“You okay?” He whispers.
Jamie’s eyes flicker over to her dad for a moment. This is never how she thought this moment would go. She thought it would feel different. She thought they would be different. She thought they would be the same. She looks back over at Regulus, “I will be.”
Regulus wraps his arms around her shoulders tugging her down, “Call me all the time.”
“I will,” Jamie murmurs into his neck. “I’ll never get off the phone with you. We can fall asleep together if you want.”
“Good,” Regulus says shortly. He’s trying not to cry she can tell. “I’ll drive up here whenever you need me to, or want me to.”
“I always want you here,” Jamie says.
“Then I’ll be here,” Regulus pulls away, but only enough to take her lips instead. It’s short, barely anything. Jamie brushes away Regulus’ tears before they can even fall.
“I love you,” Jamie rests her forehead on his.
“I love you,’ Regulus whines, kissing her cheek, he steps back. “Call me.”
“I promise,” Jamie says.
As they walk back over to her parents Effie comes and hugs her again, squeezing her tightly. When she pulls away Monty puts a hand on Jamie’s shoulder.
“Try to have fun, yeah?” He says. It sounds empty. Jamie just nods anyway. With a final kiss on the cheek from Regulus she waves them goodbye.
She’s not sure how long she stands out there. Waiting for something that’ll never come. She heads back inside eventually and goes to her closet, putting on one of her favorite dresses. Nothing is fixed, and nothing is better, but it’s something. She holds onto something.
