Pokémon Ultimate Journeys is suitably insane

Watching this series as my kid has caught the Pokémon bug and wants to watch it all, but I’m mostly watching in bits and pieces as I go in and out of the room doing things that need to be done.

Anyway, we just watched a scene where two Pokémon trainers got Slowking shell crowns stuck on their heads, were mind-controlled by said shells, then had an epic (truly and probably deliberately godawful) rap battle about how much they both love curry.

For anyone who has no idea what a Slowking is, please note that the shells are themselves a shellfish Pokémon that binds to another Pokémon in a symbiotic relationship, and which seems to develop its own psychic powers as a part of that. The other Pokémon is in the shellfish’s mouth.

Due to going in and out, as mentioned above, I had no idea how these idiots got the shells stuck on their heads, btw.

Anyway, to sum up, two kids with psychic shells biting their heads performed terrible freestyle raps about curry, resulting in their psychic powers creating a giant vat of curry noodles for all the Pokémon to eat together.

I remember the original Pokémon cartoon having some painfully goofy “wtf is this even a plot” moments, so honestly this level of dumb is kind of great - a really solid hit of nostalgia.
