you’re reading a book whilst in the dojo

the dojo is quiet except for the calculated snips

you decided to save the next chapter of your book for later, so you quietly go on your phone

until you see a cute couples date idea on your ‘for you’ page

“hey, leo?”

you didn’t expect your voice to come off as wayy louder than intended

and neither did your boyfriend

the blue-masked ninja jumps at the unexpected noise

so much so that he knocks his bonsai over

his heart stops and he swiftly dove to the floor and scrambled to juggle the plant before finally catching it

he wipes his forehead and breathes a loud sigh of relief

however, you’re laughing your literal ass off

never have you seen him so visibly stressed

you were convinced he was gonna have a heart attack

hunched over and gripping your own sides, you’re hollering

and out comes snorts while you laugh

but as soon as you realize you’re snorting, you put a hand to your mouth

as you blink in embarrassment and security,

leo smiles over at you in adoration

with those criminal cute dimples too

“what was tha-?”

“you heard nothing.”

“babe, I know what I heard.”

you look away in pure embarrassment, heavily avoiding eye contact

“I know it’s weird-“

he’s now visibly confused

like wtf??? wdym ‘weird’??

he thought, if anything, that he’s the weird one

considering he’s a mutant turtle

you’re about to respond when you pause

your cheeks grow warm

and he’s giving you that little coy yet sincere smile of his

and just as quickly as he mentioned it, you were just as quick to stop it

you stood from your seat and your brows furrowed together

that was when he knew he was screwed

and off you went, grabbing your things and ready to head up go the surface and back home for the night

he strides after you, reaching out for your arm

but you pull it back before he can get the chance

“babe, what’s wro-“

you stop briefly outside of the lair’s entrance, tears pricking at your eyes

you feel the droplets on your lashes, and you can’t look at him

so, he stands in front of you

and his heart stings

“I feel like a pig,” you cough slightly as you begin to cry

raph’s expression instantly softens

“baby… yer speakin’ nonsense.”

he gently takes your hand in his big, rough and calloused one

“everyone always says that when they hear my real laugh.”

your pout quivers as your lips do so, your shoulders shaking slightly as you cry

you move to cover your mouth and half of your face with your other hand as you cry

but he stops you

and he carefully places it on his cheek

and his left hand rests on your cheek too

your gaze flickers to meet his amber eyes

“you could have a million laughs… but this one right here? jesus, that one’s my favorite. now that’s for sure.”

you get on your toes and desperately hug your much-taller boyfriend

now this is one of the reasons he’s the love of your life

“I love you, raphie.”

“I love you too, sweetheart.”

he’s convinced you are 110% his soulmate

and here he thought that he had the worst and dorkiest laugh

this snort-laugh of yours occurred when donnie had accidentally taken a sip of scorchingly-hot coffee

he was sleep deprived

thus, he forgot how hot coffee could be

directly after pouring it

and you weren’t quick enough to stop him

so you snort laugh, stomping a little as you throw your head back in your chair

he used to hate his own laugh that involved tons of snorting sounds

but now you’ve effortlessly convinced him that it’s the best laugh in the entire universe

“what was that?”

donnie’s got the biggest and most goofiest grin on his face

“I can explain-“

his grin expands

“yeah, huh? give me another demonstration, darling.”

you shake your head in disagreement

just as you open your mouth to further reply, he continues

“oh, I bet I can out-snort you, jellybean.”

a wicked grin plastered on his face

and a mirroring grin begins to grow on yours too

“how much are we talkin’?”

“un-licked poptarts.”

“annddd?”

“annddd I’ll have to be out of the lab for a week.”

donnie gestured towards you to start off the competition

you give a purposely-snarky little laugh, snorting near the end

your boyfriend gives a nod of approval

then he gives it a go

he shoots such a devastatingly-cute yet playful grin over at you

he then cracks his knuckles

“game on.”

and so now this just sparks your competitive side

you two spend the next 15 minutes just going back and forth

and those passing by right outside of the lab are so confused

you’ve giggled countless times around mikey and towards his jokes

you nearly feel the insecurity start to seep in

that is until you hear him go “awee!”

Masterlist prologue

"*sigh* another long day at school huh, Grim" collapsing down into the crinkled blankets strewn about the worn bed letting it consume you in its warmth, the memories of today slowly fade as you wait for your furry companions response.

"Grim?" turning your head with a flop only to find the glow of his ears seems to be missing as the room has lost it's only lamp. This would be cause for concern if Trey hadn't arrived at Ramshackle earlier to deliver an uneaten tart.

"You just missed him, he left earlier dear" as the soft voice carried from the bedside table only to find the D.D.D it comes from was flipped screen down. Karasu had been silenced... at least Grim attempted to but D.D.Ds have cameras on both sides. So it's only annoying because now you have to crawl across the bed to flip Karasu over on the bedside table. Now angling him up on his phone stand admiring his large feathered wings. They always made teasing him a treat, puffing up whenever it embarrassed him only for him to pretend it never happened.

"And you couldn't stop him from eating our dessert."

"Your dessert" Karasu stated as if your precious dessert wasn't an important matter. To him it probably wasn't, he couldn't eat it and throwing tarts against the D.D.D's screen probably wasn't good for him either. Idia would probably have a field day telling you off for your ignorance.

"But we have a more pressing matter Mc *sigh* you have a message"

"what's so bad about tha-"

"from the Devildom" his voice trailed off as if this could every be a bad thing. How could it be it's what you've been waiting for, for months. Day in day out, missing the friends you made though all your struggles yet he thinks this could ever be a bad thing to hear from them at least one more time.

But maybe that's it, maybe it's just pretending to be from the Devildom and Karasu doesn't want you to get your hopes up. But then would he lead with that? He knows how tired you are of people leading you by the nose. He's been there with you the whole time.

"So.." unable to steady your voice as you slowly place Karasu in your hands.

"is, is it real?" he refuses to answer and instead looks away now staring down at the Devildom's chat app and its notification bubble. 1

BNHA Chapter 403: Review by Birdbros

First let me just say that baby Toshinori is so cute I can't breathe. Now, to the actual review. I love that his childhood was good and beautiful. That he didn't grow up in tragedy and had a loving mother and potentially the reason why he's so invested in being a hero. Because she didn't discourage him and instead fostered his dream so he could be proud of who'd he become one day. Also may I just say that this entire All Might arc has been giving. It has given so much and I've loved every second off it because honestly some people needed to be reminded why this man was the number 1 hero. Still though, just the thought of his mother dying and All Might having to take on the world and fix it without here breaks me in a way I can't fully explain.

Yeah no, nop, no. I won't let you do this. He's not gonna die. Not All Might. Not after everything. I refuse to accept it. He has so many other steps to take Okay! Stop it. What do you mean and end of an era?! AFO you absolute fucking clown, do not hurt him! I mean it!!!!!!!

Damn..... he really cut off Toshinori's backstory just like that. Wtf man. We rarely get this man reflecting about himself and you had to go and do that!!!! The fuck is wrong with you!!!!! Not a bakudeku shipper but I'm 100% a bakudeku friendship apologist so this, seeing Midoriya look up, tears flooding from his eyes because he's so fucking terrified he'll lose his mentor just like he lost his childhood friend only to then look up and see Bakugou is doing something to me I cannot explain. And Katsuki.... Katsuki with the ancient All Might card he's still holding onto for dear life. Katsuki remembering their baby selves. Katsuki being so out of it but standing up to fight for All Might like All Might stood up to fight for him at Kamino..... *sobs hysterically in a corner* Also the symbolism of All Might always having looked back at his past because all the steps felt so important just to now look forward because the steps his kids are gonna take are the important thing for him now..... yeah I'm not okay.

This is truly the beginning of a new era huh. Bakugou and Midoriya, carrying on All Might's dreams and hopes..... Hirokoshi you bastard. How can you do this to me. WTF MAN WTF!!!!!! And look at Katsuki's eyes. The explosion within them. It's so beautiful. I love it so much. And now him and Izuku's feelings are one; they'll save All Might and redefine hero society.

*stands up and applauds like crazy* There has been several misses for me in this manga but moments like this is why I'm happy I never gave up on it.

The meaning of Yu Shengyan 玉生烟 (Jinse "锦瑟” by Li Shangyin 李商隐)

Onto the second poem in Chapter 1.  

Let’s talk about Yan Wushi’s subordinate Yu Shengyan.

Not so surprisingly, Yi Shengyan came from the poem “Jinse 锦瑟” written by Li Shangyin 李商隐 in the Tang Dynasty.  Yes, it’s the same poet that wrote the poem used in the previous Chapter 1 meta, Chang E so MXS clearly has her favs.  This poem’s known for being very difficult to understand, so I hope I do it justice. 

Warning: this analysis is going to be a whole ass essay.  BUT ANYWAY~

Firstly, the title.  The title of the poem was unknown, so the first two words “Jinse” was used as its title.  There’s a whole debate around who the target audience is; some people said it was a love poem for a maid named “Jinse”, others said it was a mourning poem for a deceased wife. Some say that he was just lamenting for years that have gone by. Essentially, god knows what he was talking about XD

锦瑟无端五十弦，

The exquisite Se has 50 strings for no good reason

The normal Se has 25 strings, and other instruments have a lot less strings.  The poet is lamenting in this line, ie. 'wtf do you have so many strings’.  It can also be interpreted that the Se symbolises the poet, and he feels that he’s more outstanding than the rest. 

There are also many interpretations as to why the poet uses the number 50.  Firstly, some think that the 50 strings represent the poet’s age. (ie. He’s approaching 50 and now he’s lamenting about the lost time.  Secondly, there is a related legend that was noted in the “Record of the Grand Historian Volume 28 《史记》卷二十八”.  Legend has it that that the Heavenly Emperor ordered the Goddess Sunu 素女 to play the 50 string Se.  But it was too depressing so the emperor split her Se into 25 strings.  Some don’t even think the 50 is important as he has used the number 50 in other poems before.  Basically, there’s a whole debate around it. 

一弦一柱思华年。

Each string and bridge brings me back to my youthful years. 

The bridge is part of the Se.  It’s somewhat similar to the knobs of the guitar - ie. changing their position changes the notes.  The Se above has 50 strings so it has a complex melody, so it’s implying that the sound of the Se brings to mind many memories.

庄生晓梦迷蝴蝶，

Zhuangzi dances in his dreams and turns into a butterfly.

This term comes from the philosophical text, “Zhuangzi: Zhuang Zhou Dreams of Being a Butterfly”, a classic text written by the ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi.  In the story, he dreams he’s a butterfly, but when he woke up, he was confused if he was Zhuangzi dreaming he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming if he was Zhuangzi.  The is now a philosophical question that’s discussed worldwide.  You can read here for more information.

This line is commonly interpreted as the poem being in a beautiful place, but when he wakes up, he realises it’s as fleeting as a dream. 

望帝春心托杜鹃。

Looking at the Emperor that entrusts his sorrow onto the Koel

The Emperor refers to Emperor Wang Di, the king of the ancient country of Shu.  Legend has it that when he entered seclusion and passed on, he died and his soul became a Koel.  Hence, when Spring goes and when the Koel cries out sadly, the Shu people would say “I look forward to the emperor’s soul”, as though the Koel is sending Spring off. 

沧海月明珠有泪，

Under the radiant moon and in the green sea, the Jiaoren sheds tears. 

Jiaoren is the equivalent of a Chinese mermaid.  It was said that the Jiaoren’s tears would turn to pearls.  This is a very vivid imagery of sadness.  沧海 (Green Sea)‘s a term often used in poetry to invoke a sense of vastness 

蓝田日暖玉生烟。

It takes the warmth of the day on Lantian before jade emits smoke. (His name has been highlighted in orange.)

Lantian is a county.  It’s famous for its jade production.  And it was believed that when the light shines, the jade would emit a ‘gas’.  It was believed that treasures would release a gas that is invisible to the naked eye.  This then symbolises something that’s ideal and perfect, but yet one cannot grasp it or get close to it.   This metaphor was believed to share many similarities with another Tang poet Si Kongtu who came before him, who himself quoted another predecessor Dai Shulun.  Unfortunately, the origin of this phrase has been lost.   

I’ll put a quick summary here.  There are 4 different emotions after the poet mentions the strings of the Se.  The first is the dreamscape where he describes the confusion of life.  The second is the Koel symbolising sadness.  The imagery of the Jiaoren invokes a vast sea and loneliness and lastly, the Lantian mountain is that of warmth.

此情可待成追忆，

Why do we only reminisce this now 

��是当时已惘然

That’s because the mind was simply inconsolable back then.

The last two lines sum up the first few verses, and that the poet is regretful over the events of the past.

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers 💫

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

148, since December 2014. Which seems absolutely insane. For the second half of my twenties I barely wrote a thing and then when I found the motorsport fandom it really kick started my writing again. I guess also that coincided with entering a period in my life where I became a lot calmer and more settled.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

495,517 words. Approaching LOTR level wtf

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Now it’s pretty much exclusively motorsport, but in the past I’ve written about musicians and one or two other sports RPFs. I generally only write RPF as that’s what I enjoy both writing and reading. Although when I was in my teens I for some reason became obsessed with the tv series M*A*S*H and did write some fic for that, which was once on FF.net. I have absolutely no idea what happened to it though lol. I doubt it was very good.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Unsurprisingly these are mostly brocedes.

The art of saying goodbye – this is my magnum opus 50K farewell to the ship fic, which I started writing in late 2016 after Nico’s shock retirement, and finished in early 2018. Also one of the few multi-chaptered fics I’ve ever posted. I think I’d actually pretty much finished writing the whole fic by the time I started posting it, because I like to edit quite a lot so I find that if I start posting a fic before it’s finished then I just get frustrated that I can’t tweak things at the beginning and more often than not that will lead to just abandoning the whole thing.

This still gets the most comments and kudos of any fic I’ve ever written, even now. Which is lovely tbh, that people are still reading the older fics. It’s definitely not perfect and there are things I’d change about it if I were to do it over again now, but overall I’m quite proud of it and it remains the longest story I’ve ever written.

Your pretty face is going to hell – (brocedes with a bit of bonus Lewis/Charles) I actually really love this story, but I’m also surprised it’s so high up there as it’s only 1000 words. Post-Bahrain 2019, Nico catches Lewis and Charles getting off in the bathrooms at Bahrain airport and proceeds to mercilessly take the piss out of Lewis for it. Bonus appearance from Seb at the end. I’ve written Nico very angsty a lot and this was a fun opportunity to write him bitchy and sassy for a change.

And that is that – I’m surprised this is up there with 265 kudos as it’s relatively newer (2021). I have pretty much retired from brocedes but this was inspired by Hungary 2021 where Nico was on commentary with Crofty, who started eulogising about brocedes live on air (“everything bar lover” – kill me now) and I just could not resist. This was also a really tough race and Lewis looked like he was about to collapse on the podium – and then there’s spooning. Also, this is one of my rare G rated stories.

The teammate ritual – a very angsty history of Lewis fucking his teammates. This was fun to write, trying to figure out the various dynamics between different drivers. The Fernando segment is particularly brutal, but I think my favourite is where Heikki takes care of Lewis and makes him a cup of tea.

An empty space to fill in – post China 2018 explicit angsty brocedes. Honestly I have no memory of what happened in that race – maybe Seb won? Either way, Lewis was obviously not in a great frame of mind afterwards for me to write this fic. Nico goes to Lewis’ hotel room after the race and ends up wearing Lewis’ racesuit and then fucking him on a desk.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do try to respond to them, yes. I can be a bit slow sometimes though – there are a few lovely comments in my inbox atm that I intend to get to over the weekend. I honestly appreciate every single comment I get so much. It’s so nice to know that the silly little thoughts and ideas that come out of my head actually do mean something to people and hopefully sometimes have a lasting impact. I know for myself as a reader that there are fics I’ve read so many times that I’ve memorised half the dialogue.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh man. I mean, most of them? Lmao. I’m not going to go through all 148 fics to figure out which is angstiest – certainly some of the jeandre ones don’t have the happiest endings. There’s one with André and Tom K – all this and love too will ruin us – that I feel is really up there in the angst stakes because André is just dysfunctional and sad and doomed to repeat the same patterns over and over. Also, as it’s fresh in my mind because I only finished it the other day – for the cause of the storm – sad Max/James has quite a devastating ending and is deliberately sad in a broader sense because I think taking the rainbow off the Maserati is not a very positive thing to do.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hmm, I’m not sure I’ve written that many explicitly happy endings, more kind of ‘not sad’ or vaguely hopeful lol. I’ll say maybe Careful fear and dead devotion, which is slightly angsty Jeandre set in Gordes.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No, generally all my comments are pretty nice.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Hehe well. I never actually used to write much explicit fic but that has definitely changed in the last few years. I still don’t really feel all that confident writing smut but I do enjoy it. There have been a couple of kinkier ones (the André lockdown piss fic and I guess the Max G lingerie fic spring to mind. Oh and the Cyril/Christian glory hole fic is quite fucked up) but a lot of the time I kind of see the sex scenes as a way to portray the intensity of the connection between the characters.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not really crossovers, I think those more relate to non-RPF. Although I have mixed things up a bit between different motorsport series from time to time, which can be quite fun to write.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don’t think so. I think mine escaped the whole wattpad situation.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I think a couple of my brocedes fics were translated into Chinese, which is a massive honour.

Not an actual published one but I’ve spent many an hour riffing on fic ideas and bits and pieces with @zeraparker and @verycoolwearsleather

As much as I love brocedes I think it’s probably jeandre. The bedsharing tips it.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

My 20K Cyril/Christian immortal spies fighting over ballet dancer Daniel in the 80s during the last days of the Cold War.

16. What are your writing strengths?

This is hard because I’m quite self-deprecating. I do think I’m good at setting the scene and hopefully packing a fair amount of emotion into my writing without it tipping over into melodrama. I used to really hate writing dialogue but actually I do think I’ve improved a bit in that area.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Grammar. Overuse of commas. Also pacing. I tend to write quite short fics under 5K, although I am working on this and lately I’ve written a few that are a bit longer. There’s the third and final part of my Max/James series that I have in my drafts which I’m going to go back to very soon, which will be around 15-20K hopefully. And a James/Andre future fic which is going to be looooong.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I have done the odd line here and there but I am bad at languages so I’m never convinced on the accuracy.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I was writing actor and band fic by hand and sharing it with my friends when I was about 13/14, which was all very soap opera Mary Sue self-insert (and which I still actually have somewhere). They were wild tbh, full of explosions, divorce, drug overdose and riches. First actual fics I wrote and shared online were for the M*A*S*H slash fandom, when I was 17.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

This is really hard lol. Whenever I look back at my older fics I tend to just spot all the things I'm not happy with, so I don't really have a favourite. There's a couple of jeandre fics I am happy with and currently really like the Max/James series I'm working on - partly because I love the ship so much right now (RIP).

What a super interesting idea. I tried to consider each team's dynamic with the other team, and it got a little long, so sticking this under a cut.

First, I want to properly define how this thought experiment will work, as removing tension/the Hypmics altogether makes the plot collapse entirely and raises a few questions about how several groups got together and what certain team members are up to, if not orchestrating tension. If Rei isn’t slinking around in the background looking shady and cooking up some DRB-related shenanigans, is he really still Rei? And so on.

Therefore, I am going to stick to the letter of the question. What if there were no DRBs? The DRBs seemed to have come about because Otome had the bright idea of pitting two rap boys against each other for sport in a bloodless, more marketable version of a gladiator match, so what if she just... didn’t do that? When Ramuda called Ichijiku and went, “Yo, what up, homie G, did you know the boys are planning a revolution?” what if Otome didn’t have anything lined up and kind of had to be like, “Well, shit”? So then she sent out Ramuda to break the crew up but in a totally lame, Ramude-esque way.

You know in FP/M+ chapter 11 when Hifumi tries to guess the reason TDD broke up and guesses that someone ate someone else’s pudding? Yeah. That’s what we’re going with here. Ramuda went around, ate everyone else’s pudding, and blamed it all on someone else. (We can assume Jakurai caught him in the act or something.) The mild anger on the Ichirou-Samatoki end and the sheer “wtf, Ramuda?” factor on the Ramuda-Jakurai end was enough for TDD to take a temporary hiatus, and when all tempers cooled down, they decided to go their separate ways but remain friends.

And while this may not be necessary for the letter of this prompt, let’s throw Sasara and Kuukou a bone and say that their tiffs with Samatoki and Ichirou happened in a similar fashion. Would Samatoki blow up and send Sasara’s ass packing back to Osaka (temporarily) if he thought Sasara touched his shit and Sasara, sensing an opportunity to clown on Samatoki for it, did what he does best? Absolutely! Would Ichirou and Kuukou butt heads in a he-said, she-said argument over who drank Ichirou’s last Coke? You know it. But as in TDD’s split, these arguments wouldn’t last long, and everyone would be pretty admicable before long.

Now our stage is set. Welcome... to the pudding AU. 

BB/MTC: Samatoki and Ichirou are still homies to some extent, and this means that Ichirou still looks up to him as an older brother figure. By the sort of transitive property of older brothers, Jirou and Saburou would probably likewise respect him and at the very least would play nice with the rest of MTC. Samatoki likes kids, so he’d have no issue with the younger BBs, and Riou enjoys company as well. The group would probably have a lot of fun camping and having cook-outs at Riou’s place in the woods. However, there is an issue, and it is the one person I haven’t mentioned yet. I do not think Juuto “Mature Adult” Iruma would enjoy spending his free time with a middle schooler, especially if that middle schooler is as liable to sass back as Saburou is. Thus, the cook-outs would likely devolve into a very different sort of roasting over a campfire and would end with both Juuto and Saburou in time out.

BB/FP: After Ichirou cools off in regards to the Coke and pudding incidents (which may take a while), I figure he and Ramuda would fall back into a similar dynamic that they have in canon, wherein Ichirou thinks Ramuda’s a little weird but not enough to really do anything about it. FP and BB have fairly dissimilar interests, so I don’t think they would hang out a ton. Additionally, I think Ichirou would be a bit concerned about Dice and Gentarou’s bad behaviors (gambling and lying) rubbing off on the little BBs. Still, they might all get food or something every once in a while. The TDD manga suggests that Ramuda will, when he’s not pestering Ichirou, be occasionally struck with the desire to feed him, so I could see him popping up ever so often to treat the BBs to a nice dinner in some cozy little family restaurant. FP is like the weird uncle and the weird uncle’s irresponsible friends who give baller presents at Christmas and teaches you all the cool swear words you’re too young to know.

BB/MTR: This is a dynamic that I don’t think would work super well, not because of any sort of animosity, but simply that these two groups have such big differences in maturity and interests. The Buster Bros certainly wouldn’t mind fishing or dinner/drinking parties after work, but they wouldn’t have much to contribute to the adult conversation. Likewise, I’m sure that MTR would listen politely (Hifumi maybe not so much) to conversations about anime and school, but they wouldn’t be personally invested in it. I’m sure they all think well of each other but are probably casual acquaintances at best. They might have more luck mixing in a bigger, blended group, such as in TDD.

BB/DH: Despite how surprisingly easy it is to remove the DRBs from Hypmic and replace them with pudding without losing a significant chunk of the story and its character dynamics, I do not think we can conceivably make whatever the hell is going on between the Buster Bros and Rei be about pudding. Therefore, this group does not get along. Sasara and Ichirou probably keep in touch in a vague, acquaintances way. In canon, Ichirou doesn’t really reach out to him after he splits from Samatoki (even though there’s nothing really preventing him from doing so), so I imagine something similar would happen here.

BB/BAT: Oh they would kick so much ass. You know Kuukou and Ichirou would be making monthly trips to hang out with the bestie and try to beat each other’s ass in a parking lot somewhere. Jirou and Juushi would bond over music, and if anyone tried to bully Juushi again, Jirou, Kuukou, and Ichirou would show up to whoop their asses. (Saburou’s on standby waiting with a phone ready to call their lawyer (Hitoya)). I think Saburou and Hitoya would annoy the absolute hell out of one another, so they would end up very close friends too. Somewhere, there’s a group picture of all 6 smiling and hugging, and Hitoya texts it to Jakurai with the caption, “Look at this! Five kids, you bitch. And no child support, no less. You wish. You wish you were me.”

MTC/FP: It surprises me that Chuuouku had to make a reason for Samatoki to hate Ramuda, because the grasshopper arc shows that FP manages to piss off MTC plenty just by virtue of being themselves. I do sort of think that the only reason TDD works as well as it does is because Jakurai is a buffer absorbing the worst of Ramuda’s obnoxious energy, thus stopping him from trying to speedrun becoming a Ramupancake by annoying the absolute shit out of Samatoki until Samatoki beats the absolute shit out of him. And I mean... I do get it. I love the character Samatoki to death, but if he were a real person, by god there is something about him that would make it physically impossible for me to not fuck with him. His bravado is purely a bastard magnet. (I think that’s part of why he and Juuto get along so well.) Also, Gentarou appears to be allergic to cops and would be unable to resist making Juuto’s life hell (there’s a bastard magnet on Juuto too). So I have a feeling this would devolve into an absolute shitfit for four members of this little gang while Dice and Riou are just chillin’ on the side. So long as Dice and Riou can keep chillin’, everything’s all good. To be honest, I think Dice could get along well with MTC provided he left Gentarou and Ramuda at home - hell, I think Dice could get along with virtually anyone in the cast provided he left Gentarou and Ramuda at home. He’s as chill as could be while Gen+Ramu are chill in the same way that the surface of the sun is chill.

MTC/MTR: Hmm.. a mixed bag. Riou and Jakurai would become best friends overnight, partially because they’re on eye level with one another for a change, partially because they can commiserate about war, and partially because Riou would suggest, “Would you care to come into the woods with me to cook absolute batshit ingredients, fish in mountain streams with your bare hands, and wrestle the local wildlife into submisson?” and Jakurai would be like, “Oh! :) Would I!” A match made in heaven. As for the rest, I’m not sure. I think Hifumi and Riou would actually be able to get along in an odd sort of way - they’d swap recipes, and Riou would share some of his plants in exchange for spices he can’t get in the woods - since Riou’s absolutely patient enough to handle Hifumi’s high energy. Doppo and Riou would also work. Like Dice, I think Riou’s chill enough that you can send him to virtually everyone (barring Saburou, who is fourteen - apologies to the fourteen-year-olds reading this, but someday you will understand what I mean) and expect him to come home with a new best friend. Honestly, I think this whole dynamic would actually shake out pretty nicely. They seem like they could be trusted to have a chill time drinking/eating together someday. MTR are like MTC’s square cousins, and MTC’s like MTR’s slightly sketchy friend you know from high school who’s cool but definitely runs with the wrong crowd. (I would say they’re the weed dealer if not for Juuto’s obvious hatred of the topic.) The only reason why I called this a mixed bag in the first place is because I was a bit concerned about leaving Juuto and/or Samatoki and Hifumi in a room together - see the bastard magnet comment above - but knowing that Juuto is Doppo’s acquaintance would probably mitigate that a bit. (Although, knowing that Juuto is a potential Doppal may inspire Hifumi to do something embarassing like share Doppo’s baby pictures.) So hey, why not? Friends.

MTC/DH: God, what an interesting concept. Assuming that Samatoki and Sasara make up, I think Samatoki’d treat him in a “Haha, you knucklehead :) *beats his ass*” kind of way, which is all well and good. Running from an angry Samatoki gives Sasara good exercise. So Sasara would introduce him to Dotsuhonsters like, “Hey haha this is the yakuza leader who tries to beat me up all the time :)” and Roshou would go, “GOOD for him.” Samatoki and Roshou are, of course, instant best friends. The only awkwardness is when one day Roshou and Samatoki both share some pics of themselves a few years back, and Rei doesn’t say anything, but he does lean over and give poor Sasara (who is sweating bullets) a Look. There is not anything this man does not know. (Roshou and Samatoki, of course, are fucking oblivious, god bless their dumb asses.) Introducing Riou to the crew would go well, although I think Riou would be a bit baffled at their high-speed sense of humor. Introducing Juuto would go less well - and here I would like to pause and apologize to all the Juuto fans, since I feel like I’ve been making him out to be a cantankerous bitch, but he really is canonically closed off and prickly. That’s a big part of his character and what makes Juuto opening up to MTC so special and wonderful. At any rate, none of what I said above about Juuto was meant to be insulting, and I am now going to immediately fly in the face of that and lay into him - because I am 100% certain Rei has lured Juuto into an NFT scam, catfished him online, or both. The meetup quickly devolves into a game of tag as Juuto scrambles to get Rei into handcuffs.

MTC/BAT: Like FP, I think BAT’s obnoxious energy is a bit much for Samatoki. However, I think Juuto and Hitoya could be absolutely amazing friends, as they have pretty similar approaches to how they treat the justice system and how it plays into their respective missions. They also seem to have similar-enough tastes that they’d probably hang out in their free time. Hitoya would cry with relief that Juuto actually knows how to spell “charcuterie” after three days holed up in the mountains with Kuukou. Riou and Kuukou would likely respect one another for their strong conviction to their beliefs. I could see Riou being interested in training with Kuukou. Survival rhythm, survival monk. Survival rhymes and survival funk. Get sprayed in the woods by a survival skunk.

FP/MTR: There are two ways I can see this going, and one ends in the apocalypse, which is why I think King Records saw it vital to pry Jakurai and Ramuda apart before their respective groups mixed. On the one hand, I can see this having the same dynamic as a couple who have wildly different friend groups so you know the other dudes in a very second-hand, say “hey” when you pass on the street way. I don’t mean that in the sense that Jakurai and Ramuda would be a couple in this AU, but considering Jakurai’s willingness to forgive Ramuda for much more egregious shit, I think it’s fair to assume they’d make up after maybe four days tops for something as insignificant as “trying to break up the friend group” and “secretly being a government spy”. At any rate, assuming they each go on to build their own friend groups on their own time while still remaining close friends, I don’t think they would try to make one supergroup of pals because Jakurai and Ramuda’s one-on-one dynamic is very different than their group dynamic. Jakurai tends to... maybe babysit isn’t the right word, but mitigate, perhaps, Ramuda in group scenarios like TDD, and that wouldn’t work well with either MTR or FP. Both groups rely on them treating and being treated as equals while being able to express their true selves. Therefore, Jakurai-Doppo-Hifumi would be good friends, and Jakurai-Ramuda would be good friends, and Ramuda-Gentarou-Dice would be good friends, but there’d be no Jakurai-Doppo-Hifumi-Ramuda-Gentarou-Dice supercluster. On the other hand, if that did exist, the results would be disastrous. Yes, I think Jakurai would love this because he’d Hayami Show the hell out of Dice (Jakurai and Dice’s voice actors are very good friends), but if you allowed Dice and Doppo to meet on good terms, their mutual hatred of the systems they live in would spark a revolution overnight. As for Hifumi and Gentarou... Jesus Christ... it might be a good thing that they dislike one another in canon, because I cannot imagine a more chaotic pair of good friends. Together, they have the collective energy of those posts which show someone swerving through incoming traffic at roughly the speed of sound with the caption “Can’t help being a Gemini! <3 Live, Laugh, Love”.

FP/DH: Putting Gentarou and Sasara together is likewise a recipe for disaster. I think they’d try to one up one another, resulting in horrible casualties. I don’t think Ramuda would voluntarily want to hang out with Rei either - he doesn’t seem to be that fond of Rei in canon - so I don’t think these groups would ever naturally mix.

FP/BAT: Honestly, if left to their own devices, I think FP would try to adopt Juushi. Ramuda and Gentarou would, I think, find him very charming, even if Dice might be put off a bit by the crying. I don’t know how things would work with the rest of the crew, though. Kuukou might hold some resentment for Ramuda causing a fight between him and Ichirou, and Gentarou+Dice would be too protective of Ramuda to let this go easily. It’s probably best that these two groups don’t mix, apart from FP trying to arrange custody for Juushi on weekends.

MTR/DH: In theory, this could work pretty well, especially because Hifumi would kill to host a house party for his friends. They’re all mature enough to be able to connect well, if they ever had a reason to connect (I’m not sure what this would be, though - probably a friend of a friend recommendation via Samatoki). In practice, this would be a terrible disaster, because Sasara would goad Jakurai into drinking and then immediately regret it, if he lived to tell the tale afterwards. Still, talk about an interesting experience, huh? Oh, on that note, Jakurai and Sasara may actually get along by virtue of being into interesting people/things, although for somewhat different reasons.

MTR/BAT: Unfortunately, the Jakurai-Hitoya split is another relationship break we can’t pudding our way out of, boys. Hifumi and Juushi seem like they have the potential to connect due to their similar ways of coping with traumatic situations, but god... Poor Doppo... Imagine trying to sleep while the two of them are going, “HA HA HA HA!!!!” in the other room. Kuukou seems a bit too rough and wild to fit in with most of the group, although he and Jakurai might enjoy meditating together.

DH/BAT: Honestly? I could see it. Kuukou and Sasara have a strong dynamic back in MCD, so I could see them staying casual pals and eventually bringing the rest of their crew around to hang out. Both groups also have similar dynamics of younger, energetic dudes roughhousing while an older man looks on and gives timely advice, so I think they wouldn’t clash too much, even in terms of Kuukou and Juushi’s relative immaturity. Sasara enjoys that kind of commotion, and Roshou, while despairing about the state they leave his apartment in, enjoys encouraging kids and younger people. The one point of contention I’m foreseeing is Hitoya being alarmed by Rei’s flagrant law violating.

Fukin hell. This is why I can't be in discussion forums or groups for Your Throne or any manwha in general. I'll end up taking hours writing paragraphs to help explain things and people would still insist on their views heavily influenced by internalized misogyny and religion. I'm only human I get tired, and I am so so so close to just completely giving up so yeah. I shouldn't be doing this even on the net but...

For the first time I saw an interesting webtoon/manwha that portrays two completely different women realistically, shows a healthy example of female friendship, normalizes women being sexually active and being comfortable with their sexuality, having main leads that actually target the real villain and not waste time pitting the female protagonists against each other.

It also isn't holding back with the villain, it shows the villain stooping as low as he probably should, unlike majority of the media everywhere that's too chicken and thinks murder is the peak of villainy.

Your Throne is refreshing in the sense that it's pretty straightforward.

Not a single chapter in the entirety of the webtoon was Eros portrayed as a good guy. SO I DON'T FUCKIN GET HOW Y'ALL CAN OVERLOOK JUST HOW TERRIBLE HE IS.

Oh wait. No. I get it. I know why so many people can still think Eros has some good parts, but y'all would get mad if I said it directly. But come on. Think about it. Really really think about it.

Y'all hate on Medea or Psyche when they do something seemingly problematic but turn a blind eye to the most obvious demonstrations of toxicity in Eros and Helio.

And when some of y'all try to defend one of the women, you'll do it by bringing down the other, and not hmmm let's see, actually discussing the root of the problem?

Let's not be like that.

Think about it. Why is it that the first thing many of us thought when we saw this:

"Oh my god, Psyche slept with Eros, she isn't pure anymore!" or "WTF. Medea fucked Eros while she was in Psyche's body, she committed double rape!"

Why THE FUCK did I not see one, just a single fucking person raise:

"Mfker. Eros slept with Psyche when he had always been plotting her TORTURE and assassination."

OR at least,

"Did Psyche/Medea want this? She doesn't look happy. I hope Eros didn't scare her into having sex."

LIKE EROS HAS BEEN PORTRAYED TO THREATEN PSYCHE WITH HER FREEDOM EVERY TIME SHE TRIED TO DISAGREE WITH HIM FROM THE FIRST FUCKING CHAPTER!

Why is the first course of action always female blaming? Huh?

SAM placed that in the story because it would make us uncomfortable. But did y'all stop to think why it made us uncomfortable?

Why is it that y'all were quick to go "Oh Medea was a villainess back then, this is within character."

But nobody ever said

"Oh sht. Eros is an evil bastard that chains and jails their lover just cuz she wanted to communicate her refusal to meet with an ex-friend. He forced Psyche didn't he?"

With that said, why didn't most of y'all remember that Medea tried to reach out to Psyche during the Crown Princess competition winner announcement?

Y'all are so quick to remember the bad sht a female character does but overlook the good acts that were literally placed there so we would see the difference between the anti-hero protagonist and the fukin villain.

And they're so fukin obvious that if they were anymore obvious SAM would have to be spoonfeeding it to us.

Don't think that Your Throne is like most of the mainstream manwhas out there.

The author is trying to get us to open our eyes to the misogyny and injustice so clearly present in real life. And she's doing it in a not so in-your-face manner so that our prides and egos won't get in the way of our understanding.

My only issue with Your Throne is that Psydea won't be explicitly endgame. That's it.

And no. It's not cuz of the gay agenda. Not necessarily. The message it would send if they were endgame has so many fukin implications, for political, social, emotional, and psychological aspects.

I wish more people would understand.

Yes. In the very first chapter you get a tiny glimpse into Doyoung’s thoughts and he already decided to name her the next editor in chief, but he was really on the hunt for who would replace him as the head of neonet.

Lisa said reader exposed her for hooking up with a teacher. Not neonet. That kinda gave away that they were lenient with her. Ten does their bidding because they have dirt on him.

Doyoung is the spider weaving the web. The girls are the admins and run the site. Doyoung is the boss (which is why Jisoo was panicking when reader didn’t fall in line because she knew she failed to recruit her and Doyoung will not be pleased.) The girls were in charge of blackmail and Doyoung was in charge of the girls and manipulating everyone from a distance.

They do NOT know that it’s Doyoung. He does everything anonymously that way no one can ever roll on him. The real alpha of neonet has to survive or the site dies. He will have to find a replacement, but he said NCTU deserves some peace so he’s not mad about the site going underground for a while. They’ll come back with a vengeance with a new ruler and admins, but reader and her boys will be long gone by then.

Yep. In chapter one he had already picked her to be editor in chief (but didn’t tell her yet) so everything after that was a test to see if she could run neonet. Someone asked me if neonet was run by a person or a group and I said both. The 3 girls were the admins, but Doyoung was running it. Neonet survives because they will take all the heat but no one caught him.

Just read chap 11. Saint you've got some mad skills. The way you worded and paced this chapter... Giving details for every small thing, kept us in the loop, I am surprised to manage to fit it in 10K words. Applauds must not stop for this

Also, I don't know about others but seeing Gojou struggle and desperate for yn's affection and warmth gave me a sense of justice(?) Like he is finally reaping what he sowed and I know it affects yn but life's not fairytales and unicorns. I wish yn's circumstances were different but it makes me happy and proud that our female lead is putting herself first at every point. I love the mental debate in her head everytime she faces Satoru even though it can be fucking exhausting. I tend to prefer a more rational and level headed protagonist, like Navier (OUH THE RESEMBLANCE IS UNCANNY NOW) so I'm crying proud tears for our selfless but (now) slightly selfish yn.

Also, a sneak peak into Toji's POV made me realise that it is best they share an only platonic relationship. The advice of getting under another man to forget one doesn't really help here and yn needs to live a hermit life to balance out all this chaos in her life. I do wish if you could have a spin off drabble where Toji and yn ends together but only if you're comfortable. I'm a Toji simp since Sn so I can't accept the chemistry between Toji and yn go unexplored.

ALSO NAOYA SAYING HE IS READY TO DO THE DIRTY WORK?!?! I don't know if I can handle more plot twists. Our GojouxYN ship never had a smooth sail and it seems like it has to end up sinking. 4 chaps to go and we have so much turbulence left to brace for. I don't know if I love or hate that fact.

but ever since you mentioned that getou owns a lot of nightclubs i’ve been thinking: imagine all the shady business he could be getting up to. and the even more i think about it, suguru really does seems like he could be such a shady person under his cool facade. not that he’s a bad guy or anything but he could definitely be up to some illegal stuff without anyone knowing or suspecting a thing. i imagine that he owns some pretty high end popular clubs in the city and makes deals with gangs and crime syndicates to let them use it as a negotiation point or hang out space in exchange for information on certain people and the plans or movements of other business and upperclassman that he’ll need to be wary of (getou 🤝 naoya and their gossip king skills) i also imagine that this is where sukuna fits in; hes an important member of a pretty big crime organization—the underboss and he’s become somewhat of a friend / partner of suguru (ayo spin off writers 👀) they met because sukuna is trying to secretly overthrow the current head of the crime organization hes apart of and form his own gang. he comes to the nightclubs pretending as if he’s just observing rivals to get anything off of them to report back to his boss but in reality he’s trying to recruit and get other members to defect. suguru could have seen it from the start what sukuna’s true intentions were and made a deal with him, telling him that he won’t out his secret and will help him too with funds and information of his own if he’d take on a job to ‘take care of’ a new nightclub owner rival of his, one that was rapidly growing and becoming more successful than him—normally this wouldn’t be something that getou would particularly make a big fuss over but if you throw in a fiancé!y/n into the mix and a threat against her life because his rival is a ‘too cocky arrogant fuck that sends him anonymous threats even though suguru knows it’s from him’ as well as the fact that y/n’s mother—the ceo of a popular magazine company is having an affair with her husband’s rival who happens to be the head of sukuna’s crime syndicate—the very one he’s trying to kill, posing as a businessman to hide his true occupation. suguru promises that he can get y/n to get as much dirt and secrets as she can for him if he can do the job. (bonus is that sukuna ends up having a soft spot for y/n and develops feelings but it’s unrequited because she’s in love and is ready to marry suguru.)

at first it was very easy to defend sera, because i UNDERSTOOD where she was coming from and why she was upset. i was able to put myself in her shoes cus ik damn well i’d be more upset, but that was in the beginning.

Anw I had the same exact thought about Naoya's description of her being "not passionate about her old work" just right before you narrated it. I'm proud of my BSc in Management my education didn't fail me. If I were her I'd just secretly plot with someone from the legal team and change the death will and you know... work around that area (however you want to interpet this). Or plot with other major shareholders. Or if all of the shares belong to the family (which usually isn't the case bcs the financial risk is too high) I'll push the company for IPO instead and well... plot.

Sera is LYING through her teeth. You can absolutely tell from the reactions and the panic that settles when Gojo says he needs a test for proof. I’m just afraid of what she could have possibly done in the 6 days until she was “free”.

I had a feeling Gojo chose to follow after Sera to come clean about his feelings. Now that the tables have turned, I am unfortunately very sympathetic for him. But only because I know his intentions are good but I can foresee things going even more downhill for him.

One thing I do trust is for reader to still continue the merger. I feel like something will happen. Like a glimmer of hope. Reader is only doing this bc she doesn’t believe Gojo is genuine. Because he’s broken her trust. They are on absolute different wavelengths and the timing is so poor. But if Gojo is ever able to shy away his pride for even a minute and finally bear his true feelings, I think reader would latch onto that hope.

So I guess even if I’m sympathetic, beat Gojo down. Cause more drama he can’t handle so he can finally bare his bones and be his true self to his wife.

Chapter 11 was shocking… the tea was spilled. I have been thinking about this for a while, but Sera truly lacks self awareness on how big the consequences are if she stays with Gojo and could possible be pregnant. Like if she just stops thinking for one second about her relationship and focus on the bigger picture. The business relationship between the Gojo gorup and Creston would be strained and the chances of Satoru becoming CEO would be slim and/or Satori wont be CEO at all due to the affair,Satoru dad would probably make Satoru step down, the merger wont go through, Gojo group stocks would go down, media scandal=bad PR, and any business relationship with Creston and the Gojo group would not work due the to affair. Y/N family would be heartbroken and pissed because if they knew that Satoru was having an affair and that he was treating y/n like crap they would think that its their fault. They trusted Satoru; and y/n family would feel betrayed and guilty. Since Creston is the biggest financial group they have a lot of power. Eula thinking that there are other business that would deal with the Gojo group sound so ignorant, even Naoya knew this. Like Creston is the biggest financial group in all of Japan. The other “business” that Eula mentioned could have had business relations with Creston and if the affair or any scandal were to come out that involves the Gojo group, other business would be hesitant or not do any business deals with the Gojo family, due to their scandal and fear that Creston would not work with any businesses that have worked with the Gojo group , if the affair and possible pregnancy of sera comes to light. Y/N family would be pissed and devasted by the affair. and the scandal would put a bad reputation towards the Gojo group. Eula and Sera truly lacks self awareness on how big the consequences would be due to how narrow minded they are. Both eula and sera are only focusing on themselves and not care/lacks self awareness of their actions. I hope this make sense and sorry if this was too long😅😅

For Toji, it feels like he wants YN to be happy bc she deserves it and because he likes to see her happy. With Satoru, though he feels like he’s trying, there still a strong underlying selfishness in his actions. He is trying to sweep things under the rug as if he wasn’t unjust and cruel to his wife to deserve the cold shoulder and harsher treatment he’s now getting. He may be ready for the love that YN was giving but YN is no longer ready to give the love she once did.

And bumping into Satoru and Sera at the doctor!! The way I let out an excited silent scream 😭 You write angst so well, and I absolutely love every twist and turn you include both big and small.
