"Well why would I be mad at you for that, friend?" laughs a freshly-scarred, perpetually-grinning Kevin, voice laced with poisoned ecstasy. "Strexcorp won us over anyway, as they should have all along!"

"I lied to you..." confesses Cecil.

"Not really," reassures a grinning, yellow-robed Kevin, Prophet of the Smiling God, standing atop the sandcastles he built. "I love my town. It's not what it once was, and they don't love me as I love them anymore, but it's here, and it's mine, and we're happy."

"I lied to you!" yells Cecil.

"You gave us hope," sobs a young, wounded Kevin, bravely defiant to the end even when his end refused to come. "And I don't know if I should thank you or curse you for it!"

"I lied to you," whispers Cecil.

"I know," whispers back an old, hollow-eyed Kevin, a wisp of a person lost in the endless sands of time after everything he has known and loved has been blown to dust several times over. "I forgive you."

Fun Fact!

The very first Night Vale episode I ever listened to was Triptych! (You can blame @like-the-2ides for that lol.)

I had almost no context, and it hurt like hell. Came back later with more context, and it hurt even more! I still find it funny a year and a half later that I cut my teeth on 73. Speaking of Teeth, no Kevin yet on this account, that needed to change, and I figured why not add some more angst.

Wtnv quick rundown - 73 - Triptych

It's really hard to believe this one is only episode 73. Contextually and literally, it's pretty far apart from the last time we heard from Kevin of Desert Bluffs properly. But it felt like it took a lot longer than it did for this episode to air. I always love a good Kevin episode.

What’s past is prologue. What’s future is epilogue. This right here is maybe chapter 4 or 5. Welcome to Night Vale.

In this episode, Cecil's radio signal receives interference which he tries to fix, resulting in him making contact with Kevin of Desert Bluffs. Instead of the present time Kevin (trapped in the Desert Otherworld) he is able to briefly talk to Kevin of the distant past (before Strex), Kevin of the recent past (post Strex, pre-take over of NV attempt, pre-sandstorm) and the far far future.

In the distant past, Kevin and Cecil seem to get on and agree on many things. Kevin says that he absolutely hates Strex and won't allow it to take over his town. He asks Cecil, whom he openly believes is from the future as Cecil says, if they (DB) win against Strex. Cecil lies and says that they do, theoretically to try and give Kevin hope even though Cecil knows how it really turns out.

In the more recent past, Cecil accidentally introduces Kevin to the idea of NV and may have been the reason Strex decided to come over and try and take over.

In the far future, a very old Kevin is surprised to hear anyone. He's been alone for decades, with nothing but himself and his trauma and deeply wishes his life had been different. He says he sometimes drifts between two selves, the Strex self and the real self he should be.

Pre-Strex Kevin tells us about his oldest friend, Grandma Josephine, Mayor Pablo Mitchell and Lawrence Levine out in the Edgertown Development. These are obvious counterparts to Old Woman Josie, Mayor Pamela Winchell and Larry Leroy out on the edge of town. These are not the Doubles of these people, as Doubles are physically identical copies. The fact that Kevin is also deep friends with his version of Josie further suggests the fact that Cecil and Kevin are both Doubles (looking alike) and counterparts (living alike).

In NV, a Screaming Vortex opened up in the malls food court, obliterating Ice Cream On A Stick, Lucy Tropic’s Fried Ice Cream, and Mario’s Very Authentic Italian Ice Cream Sub Sandwiches. Also doing significant damage to American Teddy’s Ice Cream and Falafel owned by Teddy Rahal.

Is Kevin evil? As in, do we later find out that he's actually a terrible sadistic person, just in general/overall? I see so little work for him and I feel like, from the character beats I can gleam (I'm only on ep 85) most of his character seems to be formed from an overbearing God that used him, and a company that hollowed him out and made him into the perfect little tool (ah I wouldn't know that one at all!!! *sarcasm*) sooooo....if thats the case, how come more people do not latch onto this man??? I am confusion.
