WTNV quick rundown - 60 - Water Failure

Featuring the voices of Erica Livingston as Maggie Penebaker, Christopher Loar as Donald Penebaker (they are the voices of the phone tree when Cecil makes his call) and Flor De Liz Perez as the voice of Lacy.

The water in the radio station has been turned off and eventually the pipes start to release a gas that smells like French Toast. This causes the people in the station, including Cecil, to become light-headed and lose their senses of sight, touch and longing.

It turns out that because of the sun multiplying over NV, the water departments computers messed up and started to release carbon monoxide into the building as they do whenever anyone is more that 60 days behind on their payments (which the station is not). It smells like French Toast because they wanted to make the unpleasant thing a bit more pleasant. This is explained to us by a person called Lacy, over the phone, who doesn't hang up all the way until Cecil is signing off. She also tells Cecil that he's not the only one who cares about 'her' and 'I know who you are' and 'thanks' without clarifying.

Oh yes the sun was multiplying over NV today. Citizens shot down the three extra suns, leaving just one. This sun sets in the north though.

Michael Sandero both lost and won his national championship game. His team was fighting a copy of his team. The winning version was carried off by starlings after partying all night. The losing one seems confused as to where he is and who is he.

Cecil submits a special form to request days off from Station Management so he can go and see Carlos in the desert otherworld. This includes an exactly 2500 word essay on what he will be doing with his time away from work, then genuflecting in front of the office door whilst reciting the pleadge of employee fealty which is several minutes long (he does this whilst blocking the only route to the kitchen at lunch time so everyone else is pretty annoyed at him). He then submits the form into the drop box which glows red and puffs out black smoke. When he returns to his booth, all his possessions are gone and replaced with a bottomless pit when means they received the request.

Chevrolet are trying to claim that the electricity in everyone's house is in fact actually a car so you should either return it or pay them for it.

Local television station channel 6 comes under fire for their decision to start broadcasting into viewer's homes whether viewers want to watch Channel 6 or not. People argue this is a violation of privacy. The City Council argues that it's important they are able to tell people anything they want, important or not, whenever they want, through their TV's.

You can call the water department if you no longer believe in water (Cecil has his doubts), or if you are Illuminati. You can also call if you tried to call about an emergency, only to find yourself serving a prison sentence for misuse of emergency services and you want to argue the semantics of 'emergency'.

NV phones have an 'Not An Emergency' button.

👻: Is there a scene that you find intimidating that you have yet to write?

😬 Amongst the holidays, writing a long winter gift exchange fic, and grad school picking up tempo, my pending chapter’s working title is “Carol Explains Sci-fi”, where I need to give the readers and the characters enough of an explanation via Carol of how the AU works without breaking the horror rule of giving a full explanation for how my Doodler works and causing It to no longer be scary. Also explain how the situation of the AU occurred in the first place.

It is a lot of dialogue that won’t read well as a lecture, so I’m chipping away at it between action and smaller conversations. I plan to have my professional beta reader (=friend writing good oakson lol) review it to make sure it sounds okay and give myself time in case I realize that I really need to include or remove something.

🤔: Do you have an WIPs where you wish you had chosen a different fandom/character?

I don’t really have a WIP that I regret focusing on a character for. My early Dndads writing with Willy and Ron still fit them even after ep 60/61 came out. I think canon just caused more complexity to the fics, weirdly. Knowing that there was never any boat or physical fish means that Ron in old fics is either lying or misremembering in his own perspective, and in those AUs, he never has to find out.

I think I’ve talked about my ASOUE/WTNV crossover before. With that fic, I don’t really regret the story as a vehicle for what I wanted to write at the time. The fandom shifted over the 2/3 years of me writing though, so the carrot of finishing to eventually publish was removed. I will go back to finish it one day, but the WIP was dropped without a chapter ever being published and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Lark and Sparrow were ABSOLUTELY those kids who opened the windows during a car wash. they did it every single time. henry kept having talks with them about how that's not nice to the car and the people who have to go in and fix it and they're gonna get all wet and they simply. Do not listen. every time. every time it happens. they convince him that they've changed and then immediately open the windows again. whenever henry tries to hold them down when mercedes is driving they bite him so so so so so so hard.

Like Kai and Nya's village knew their parents, so it makes sense to them that Nya learns how to swim before she learns how to walk, and that Kai is so interested in blacksmithing and how they have to keep him away from candles. Lou putting up with Cole digging holes in the backyard and coming in covered in mud. Julien thinking Zane is just being all roboty when he wants to sit outside during a snowstorm, or want the air conditioning to be on. Even Lloyd being drawn to brighter lit areas at Darkleys.

Meanwhile, Ed and Edna have NO idea why their baby keeps wanting to electrocute himself, how he keeps undoing the safety measures they put on the plugs, why he keeps sticking wires in his mouth, and why he gives them a static shock every other time they pick him up

What is the Silt verse, and would you recommand it ? :)

The Silt Verses is a horror/fantasy podcast! It's written by the same guy as I Am In Eskew, I believe, though I've only listened to the first ep of the latter so I can't say how similar it is. The obvious comparisons from what else Ive listened to are tma and (early) wtnv - tma for the gods, rituals, cults and avatars, wtnv for the more vibes-based theology, and the way these things are more or less common knowledge, despite how deadly and cruel they can be.

More specifically, it's about two worshippers (Faulkner and Carpenter) of an old, forbidden river God, and their pilgrimage to find its miracles. As it goes on, a few other characters get introduced as well. It's quite good, I recommend it! The writing and descriptions are evocative, the world is fun and intriguing, the horror p effective. Basically, if you liked the art I reblogged, there's a good chance you'll like the show (as long as youre able to focus on the episodes, which are a bit long, at 45-60 min long 😅)

Note though that this podcast has the most gruesome body horror of any that I've listened to. Not a lot of sound effects of that horror iirc, but it doesn't shy away from any descriptions
