Me at the “Heathcliff the bastard son” theories.
Sure, it is not impossible, but it is strictly a fan theory and is not at all implied by the text in any way.
"but the text never explicitly stated it!!!" hey, so that's actually what they tried to teach you in those english classes you barely passed 😁

Catherine Earnshaw and Beauty Standards
She is not blonde and clearly is somewhat jealous of blondeness:
Tumblr media
She is (in my opinion) not thin:
“A stout, hearty lass like Catherine does not fall ill for a trifle; and that sort of people should not either.”
(Chapter 12) (italics mine)
“Stout” means:

Later the word “stout” is used within the book to convey Nelly being overweight:
“A touch on the chest silenced me: I am stout, and soon put out of breath; and, what with that and the rage, I staggered dizzily back and felt ready to suffocate, or to burst a blood-vessel.”
(Chapter 27) (italics mine)
And her daughter Cathy Linton is also a “slim-thick” type:
“Catherine had reached her full height; her figure was both plump and slender, elastic as steel, and her whole aspect sparkling with health and spirits.”
(Chapter 21) (italics mine)
Conclusion: Margot Robbie is shitty casting.

I really like this russian edition of classic books. Letting famous artists do the covers in YA style was such a simple but clever decision. According to the recent study the number of teenage readers increased, possibly thanks to these covers. I own traditional classics with blank covers but if I ever see one of these in the wild, it’ll probably make me go feral.
Here are some of my favs:
