*The Crows are gathered in the living room for a meeting*
Wylan: *walks in and sits on Jesper’s lap*
The Crows: …
Kaz: Why are you sitting there?
Wylan: There’s no free seats!
Kaz: But we made sure there was enough room for-
Jesper: *hugs Wylan tightly* There are no free seats.
People always talk about this moment as Jesper falling in love and Wylan being encouraging to Alby but let’s also talk about how for a moment Wylan got lost in the music and he looked so peaceful he seemed to forget where he was. Like he was transported back to his childhood, playing music & all was well.
Let’s talk about how, yes, he was being encouraging to Alby, but he also probably saw a chance and jumped at it just to play the piano again, yearning to feel the keys under his hands, desperate for a moment of comfort. For a moment he was not Wylan Hendriks of the Barrel, he was Wylan Van Eck, playing music with his mother in their house again.
Then as quick as Wylan allowed himself to get lost in the music, that peace quickly shattered and reality crashed on him. He seemed to catch himself and pulled a mask on, retreated immediately back into hiding again.
The subtle change in expression? Jack Wolfe just knows how to break my heart 😭😭😭
Say what you want but I reckon that the kindest, most beautiful, kinda most badass, and definitely most downright fucking romantic line in the whole Six of Crows duology will always be…
Did everyone forget about that one scene in early SOC where Wylan was drawing a map of the Ice Court, and Kaz asked him for the names of the structures, but Wylan said he didn't know the names in Fjerdan? Yet he later sang a Fjerdan song well enough for other Fjerdans to not realise he's not one of them?
So basically, Wylan lied to Kaz in order to hide his disability, and got away with it. I REPEAT, KAZ DID NOT REALISE WYLAN WAS LYING TO HIS FACE.
i've already yelled about this once on this site but i genuinely love wylan's line of "maybe you should pray to Ghezen for understanding, father" at the end of soc so much like. i don't think y'all understand. the sass wylan gives him is very important to his character and development but also just so hilarious to me. idk if it's bc i can relate to the religious sarcasm or what but i genuinely think about it a lot and for some reason feel the need to point it out again
We all talk about how Wylan was abused by his father, but what I don’t see a lot of people talking about is how J*n didn’t even allow his son to grieve his mother’s loss. At that age, Wylan probably would have only started to grasp the concept of death, and he also needed time to process and grieve Marya’s finality - and J*n wouldn’t let him do either. And to make matters worse, Wylan needed his father there for him during that time and instead J*n just gave up on him. He wouldn't even let Wylan talk about his mother and instead expected him to simply suppress his grief because "it didn’t pay to dwell on the past". This would have done just as much emotional and mental damage to Wylan as his father’s abuse and I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about it.
Jesper: Why don't humans have a specific noise that means "there are bees here, let's leave immediately." Why are elephants more advanced than us.
Wylan: We do have a specific noise for it. It sounds like this:
Wylan: "There are bees here, let's leave immediately."
