G: What was your first fandom?

The first fandom that I was actively involved with was Xmen: Evolution. I wrote fanfiction, I made some silly and really bad fanart of the characters, I was on the angelfire and geocities sites almost every day looking for new fanart from artists far more talented than myself, new fanfics. I think I actually made my own aol website that featured my thoughts on XM:E. I remember being upset that I had to take the SATs on a Saturday morning because that was when the show aired, and this was before streaming services or youtube, so the only way I'd be able to watch it would be to set up the VCR to record it and hoped it worked, or else just wait until the episode aired much later as a rerun.

I'll be forever grateful to Xmen Evolution for being basically the only non-comic media to acknowledge Mystique's long-standing relationship with Irene, show loving interactions between them, describe her past with her children (rogue and nightcrawler) as being complicated rather than 100% toxic, and leaning with Chris Claremont's original intention with her character. Out of a dozen movies and tv shows, it was the only one to even show Irene despite her being A GIGANTIC influence on Mystique from both of their comic conceptions to even currently. And they even went a step further and didn't kill her in the show. Erasing Irene, who was a blind precognitive who sacrificed her future in order to help the world, and who Mystique was in love with for the better part of a century and who they raised a daughter with, makes no sense in Chris Claremont's universe but idk J Lawrence gotta eat I guess Thank you XM:E
