villains duology

i’m going to be honest, the second book was not the favourite thing i’ve read, but oh my god vicious was *chef’s kiss*. first of all, victoria schwab is a genius. second, this is the book that made me love superhero-esque novels. third, i am simply obsessed with eli and victor.

i’m going to pretend vengeful doesn’t exist, but vicious follows Eli Ever and Victor Vale - our two dear villains. eli takes the role of hero, victor that of villain, but you get both/neither protagonist and/nor antagonist between them. both are antiheroes, with v different (and very twisted) motivations.

definitely a character driven book more than plot, but the characters are so well developed and compelling, especially our main duo.

the lunar chronicles (4 book series)

allow me to begin by saying the lunar chronicles is a major point of inspiration for my current main wip (the homeland) so if it sounds a teensy bit too similar 😫✋🥲. it is BRILLIANT. i last read it quite a while ago so forgive any mistakes but oh my god it’s lovely i’m now just shitting onto a page. so. here we go.

the lunar chronicles is set in the future, where earth is controlled by continental rulers, and a monarchy exists on the moon. the story, a series of twisted retellings of classic fairytales, follows an asian cyborg girl (cinderella), a french farmer’s granddaughter (little red riding hood), a girl trapped in a spaceship (rapunzel), and an adopted neglected princess (snow white).

arc of a scythe trilogy

my favourite dystopia i have ever read. along with tlc i guess. the concept of this world is absolutely amazing and i loved the plot so much 😭 a warning that the ending is bittersweet and pained me *sobs*

aoas is set in a world where death has been conquered. to fight overpopulation, a team of “scythes” are trained to glean (basically kill) people. the story follows two teenagers selected to train with a scythe - the twist is that only one can become it. basically some scythes start getting really corrupt, technology has a mind of its own, cult like behaviour evolves, and shit goes south.
