There was a dark glance thrown at Cyrus’ back while they were exiting the car, moving to the entrance of the building for another meeting with the financial partners of their organization. His presence brought a strange atmosphere within the house, suffocating and sickening, pushing even Raum to change his attitude. With his uncle by his side, he was a different man. His teasing nature and his usual snarky comments had been muffled behind a veil of seriousness and acceptance that Gabriele couldn’t understand. Well, he was aware that Cyrus had power over this young man, but he had never thought that there could be such a strong and invisible hand wrapped around Raum’s throat, preventing him from protesting, or even talking. 

Gabriele sensed that this man would definitely be a problem. He had seen in the past that Friedrich was quite different as well whenever his brother was around, but the sensation was far more palpable when it came to Raum; and it bothered Gabriele. He didn’t know exactly why, but that silent castration was painful to see. He couldn’t say that he liked it when Raum was playing with his nerves, or pushing the limits, but the silent treatment was somehow very upsetting. Gabriele didn’t like to admit it, but he could almost say that he was missing the lively and overly exhausting boss he usually dealt with. 

“Apologies, sir, I have left a few documents in the car.” Gabriele suddenly realized as he reached for the handle of the door, while Cyrus turned around to give him that same and usual judgmental look. “I’ll be quick.” He promised while he threw one glance at Raum; not to invite him, but to make sure that he was alright. He had barely talked since this morning, and while he refused to even spare a look at his bodyguard, it was hard for Gabriele to tell if he was truly alright. He bowed and turned around, quickly making his way back to the vehicle, parked at the corner of the parking lot, hidden from the door.

A briefcase was missing with a few papers for the accountant, but despite Gabriele taking the blame for this memory lapse, he knew that Raum was the one who had forgotten it in the car. The bodyguard opened the passenger door, a sigh leaving his throat while he was about to bend over and retrieve the case, before he stopped his motions as he heard a sound behind his back. He quickly turned around, dark irises falling on the features of a certain blond boy. 

“Why are you not with your uncle?” Gabriele asked, before he eventually retrieved the missing documents. Raum pretended that he was only here to supervise his bodyguard’s actions, if he took too much time. He pinched his lips together and faced his boss once more. “That was reckless. We're perhaps a few meters away from the building, you were the one unsupervised and taking risks. I've never thought that you needed to monitor me either." He paused and cleared his throat, feeling slightly uncomfortable with all of this situation. "I know exactly who forgot this, but it’s not my place to put the blame on you when your uncle is looking.” He placed the briefcase back into Raum’s hands, giving a quick glance at the parking lot, over the shoulder of his employer; at least there was no one.

Raum was safe. 

“Or perhaps you came for something else?” Gabriele eventually asked, as he noticed that, despite receiving what he was looking for, Raum wasn’t moving from his spot or walking back to escort his uncle. For a moment, the bodyguard didn’t dare to move, but he saw, deep in Raum’s eyes, how much he despised this whole situation, how much he had so many things to say, but he kept himself muzzled. Gabriele sighed once more, gave another glance at the corner of the parking lot, before he crossed the distance between them. “Il mio cucciolo…”

As many promises and reassuring words died within his mouth, Gabriele decided to give Raum his only gift of comfort. With one last look seeking approval, he eventually kissed him, passion palpable through his intense breathing, even if he took things slowly, melting with the other one’s lips. Through this gesture, he hoped to give Raum enough strength, enough support to handle the rest of the day and prove to him that he was, and forever, his ally.

They parted after a few seconds, once again silenced in their emotions. It was time to go.
