@dorothygale123; The Demon Bull King turning out to be the decendant of the Flame Emperor/Divine Peasant (more commonly known as "Divine Farmer") actually gives his side of the story some extra spicyness! It also gives the Jade Emperor + Queen Mother greater reason to have not wanted Iron Fan and DBK to get hitched - thats some "about to be overthrown"-level of political clout. It also gives DBK a really cool motivation to rebel against Heaven + rule over earth: in his mind, his ancestor deserved to be Emperor over mankind and heaven for the good he did.

Shennong/Divine Peasant appears in a collection of mythos regarding the ancient age of "Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors". Each being is different depending on who you ask, but Shennong is always one of the Sovereigns, alongside Nuwa, Fuxi, and rarely Gonggong (god of water). The Five Emperors include the Yellow Emperor and his more noteworthy decendants. Shennong is either depicted as the Yellow Emperor's brother, or his father (again sources issue), but I prefer to go with the "waring brothers" angle since it makes it a juicy conflict. Apparently around this era there was co-ruling Five August Emperors nicknamed; the Yellow, Black, White, Red, and Blue-Green Emperors. Jade Emperor's rule occurs a bit later since he was busy doing 327 millions years of meditation before the Big God Yuanshi Tianzun declared him God-Emperor over the others.

Shennong/Divine Peasant is said to have failed to overthrow his brother, but was still beloved by his people (aww). And he pretty much spent the rest of his life dedicated to helping humanity understand fire, edible vs medicinal plants, and agriculture. For the guy who taught humanity farming to be a bull-man is oddly poetic in a way. Also major chad move of him; fails to overthrow the big Emperor (like his decendant), and instead of whining gets to experimenting on himself with wild plants so he can take care of his people better. He is said to have died via a flower-eating experiment gone wrong though.

I actually tracked down your source so I could read it for myself, cus Nuwa's parentage changes quite a bit depending on the sources; some say thunder god dad, some say Emperor dad, others say she was a primoridal parasite on Pangu's body etc... From the book you have, it appears that Shennong/Divine Peasant named his youngest daughter after Nuwa the goddess. The same character also dies as a child and transforms into the Jingwei bird, making it rather difficult for this Nuwa to be the same one who created humanity.

It should also be mentioned that "Yan/Yangdi/Flame/Firey Emperor" applied to multiple kinsman deities who held power at the same time who weren't related genetically. Houtu (another suspect of creating SWK) is even mentioned as a "Yan Emperor". The idea of the Divine Peasant and The Earth itself (themselves ancestors/creators of DBK and SWK) being sworn bros seems very cool af.

In short: DBK and SWK aren't related, but their ancestors/creators def knew eachother and were buddies - so much so that Shennong named one of his kids after Nuwa. Also this means DBK holds a threateningly large claim to the Celestial Throne if he ever argued for it.

I feel like if Shennong ever appeared in the LMK universe (like via the Scroll of Memory or another artifact), he'd look like a massive auroch-like minotaur/bull demon holding farming equipment. Red Son probably meets him on accident while trapped in the Scroll, and it takes Red until afterwards to realise that the "peasant bull" was his many-great-grandfather.

Also, here's my silliest reaction to learning that Shennong/Flame Emperor/The Divine Peasant is a literal cow-man;

Thirteen emperors from Emperor Zhaodi (94-74 B.C.) of the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-9 A.D.) to Emperor Yangdi (569-618) of the Sui Dynasty (581-618) were illustrated in the painting. Each emperor is surrounded by several servants, making the total number of characters 46. There are texts next to each group of characters, stating the time span of the emperor’s reign and His Majesty’s attitude towards Confucianism and Taoism.

Normally, portraits of historical figures like this one were created for education and edification as opposed to appreciation. Therefore, the illustration of the 13 emperors was not based on objective reality, rather, a historical attitude towards these figures could be sensed. The accomplished kings such as the founder of a certain dynasty were depicted taller and bigger, with noble bearings, while those fatuous emperors in history such as those who led to the subjugation of their states look either dispirited or unfriendly.

It is believed that the original work is attributed to the heavyweight painter Yan Liben (601-673) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), as, first, the last emperor of the 13 being one from the Sui Dynasty indicates that the painter is highly possible to be from the following dynasty which is Tang, and second, to illustrate the appearances and also convey the inner world of so many historical figures require exceptional skills which is out of the reach of common artists. It is Fu Bi (1004-1083), a famous prime minister of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), who first associated this painting with Yan Liben. History of changing hands of this painting has been in official record until it was looted and sold to overseas in the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).

King Wen of Gaomi, Tai

The Civil [wen] King of Gaomi, Tai, courtesy name Zishu, was the younger brother of King Mu of Pengcheng, Quan. During Wei he was Marquis of Yang Precinct, filled the post of Prefect of Yangdi, and moved to Grand Warden of Fufeng.

When Emperor Wu accepted the abdication, he was ennobled King of Longxi, with an estate of 3 200 households, and was designated General who Roams and Strikes. He set out to be Inspector of Yan province with promotion to Eagle Soaring General. He moved to Envoy Holding the Tally, Commander-in-Chief of the Various Army Affairs of Ning and Yi provinces, and General who Calms the West, to act as Inspector of Yi province. He claimed illness and did not go. He shifted to General who Calms the North, and replaced his older brother Quan as Commander of the Defensive Affairs of Ye City. [He became] General who Calms the West and Commander-in-Chief of the Affairs Within the Passes.

At the beginning of Taikang [280 -289], he entered to become Cavalier in Regular Attendance and General of the Van, acting as Colonel of Ye's City Gates. He left office due to illness. Later he replaced the King of Xiapi, Huang, as Archer-Servant of the Left for the Masters of Writing. He set out to be General who Garrisons the West, acting as Colonel who Protects the Western Rong, Acting with the Tally. He replaced the King of Fufeng, Jun, as Commander-in-Chief of the Army Affairs Within the Passes. He turned back to to the Imperial City due to illness.

At the beginning of Yongxi [290], he replaced Shi Jian as Minister of Works, and soon after acted as Grand Guardian to the Heir-Apparent. When Yang Jun was executed, Tai acted on Jun's undertakings. He was promoted to Attendant-at-Centre and furnished two thousand five hundred foot soldiers and five hundred horsemen. Tai firmly declined, and therefore was given a thousand troops and a hundred cavalry.

At the King of Chu, Wei's arrest, Tai made ready troops, intending to save him. The Libationer Ding Sui admonished, saying:

Your Excellency being a high official, cannot act lightly. And also when hustling and bustling in the middle of the night, [we] should dispatch people to confer and thoroughly settle the news.

Tai followed him.

Wei was just then executed. Therefore used Tai to Record the Affairs of the Masters of Writing, he moved Grand Guardian, interim Prefect of the Masters of Writing, and changed fief to King of Gaomi, with an estate of ten thousand households. 9th Year of Yuankang [299 AD], he passed away, and was retroactively conferred Grand Tutor.

Tai was by nature upright and serene, and was not on close terms with music and beauties. Even though he was a prime buttress, receiving the taxes of a great state, he dressed with ornaments and cooked meals like a cloth clothed humble gentleman. He put his trust in the genuine, simple and frank. Always at court meetings, those who were not familiar with him, did not know he was a king and excellency. Affairs he treated respectfully and prudently, in mourning periods he was grieving and sorrowful, he was humble and modest to those lower than him, and became the imperial house's outward appearance. At the time, among the various kings, only Tai and the King of Xiapi, Huang, were commended for their moderation and regulations. Though both were unable to rouse and extend, the remainder were not comparable to them.

Tai had four sons: Yue, Teng, Lüe, and Mo. Yue has his own biography. Teng set out to follow his junior uncle, his brother Lüe was installed [as King of Gaomi].
