yap alert about jenny and the first time she smoked with mikey post-squip:

ok so i do think that jenny also smokes, just not as much as mikey. i think being high calms mikey down and shes super chill, laid back, yk , cool, jenny on the other hand ..

being high calms her anxiety but since it calms her down it makes it alot harder for her to ignore certain thoughts that she chooses to push down when shes not high, mainly guilt. its happened before but on numerous occasions she is found dissacociated and upset due to overwhelming guilt, with things like her mother leaving and such.

well post squip, the guilt is EXTREME. and it definitely takes a long while for mikey to be able to convince jenny to smoke again, as jenny is afraid of doing anything that could mess with her mind (she will never ever drink mtn dew again)

but similarly to alcohol being a depressant and shutting the squip off, mikey tells jenny that weed should be okay for her, so, they get together to hangout.

they smoke, get high, mikeys chill, playing video games when all of a sudden jenny just starts sobbing??? breaking down. the guilt of everything that happened with the squip and mikey and brooke and such is killing her so she just starts bawling. mikeys like ??? oh my god are you okay jen whats wrong?? and jenny explains that shes so so sorry and shes so upset and everyone hates her and mikey tries comforting her but fails as shes .. really high, so. mikey says she will call christine and explain, jenny of course, being upset by all of this doesnt want christine to know she smokes weed (another thing she is guilty about) but by time jenny can mutter "no dont tell her im smoking weed 😢😢😭" christine has already picked up the phone and heard this (she doesnt care lmao) shes worried ab her gf and mikey asks if she will come over.

christine comes, jenny sobs some more and says how much she doesnt deserve her and all that blah blah, christine takes it all in and isnt bothered, she just wants jenny to feel better. they eventually lay in mikeys bed and christine cuddles and comforts jenny as she falls asleep (weed makes her sleepy lol) and she manages to get up and leave without waking her, asking mikey to text her when jenny wakes up to make sure shes okay.

sooo. jenny sleeps for nine hours 🤔 and wakes up completely sober, a little confused as to where she is then realizes shes at mikeys, mikey, who stayed awake the entire time, is there to be like oh youre awake! jenny forgets completely that she even smoked, their convo would pretty much go like this:

j: oh gosh how long was i out for?

m: oh yk like nine hours

j: NINE HOURS?? oh my god?

m: hey are you alright?

j: yeah??

m: youre not upset anymore?

j: i was upset?? what do you mean?

m: yea dude i mean i really didnt know what i was gonna do you seemed like youd never STOP crying

j: i was crying? so you put me to bed??

m: i didnt. christine did !

j: chrstine???? but im at your house??

m: i didnt know what to do so i called christine!!!!

j: you did WHAT?! why was i upset why was i crying?? why did christine come here?? why did i sleep for nine hours??????

m: okay okay jen woah youre getting hostile 🤔🤔 listen, we smoked some weed. you! got really weird. i was super high. so i called christine, and you were like "dont tell her im smoking weed" but she was already on the phone and totally heard, so then she came over and you kept crying and were like "waahhh christine i dont deserve you" but she knew you were high and was okay with everything and she just , yk, waited until you fell asleep and then she left! oh i gotta text her by the way, let her know youre awake and alright.

j: well idk if im alright... (embarrassed)

then mikey obnoxiously takes a flash photo of jenny, who is sprawled in mikeys bed, confused and embarrassed as hell

christine, whos been FIGHTING to stay awake (not a night owl at all) waited the whole time for that text and as soon as she responded she CRASHED, out, sleepytime.

THESE ARE MY PERSONAL PREFERENCES!! Not indicative of a writer's craft!!!! There's not a lot that makes me not read something, especially content wise

1. But misspelling a word consistently, no paragraph breaks, grammar things like that

2. Injuries not being treated properly, and by treated I don't mean healed. I mean some Blue Eye Samurai kind of stuff, where she gets rebar through the foot and just, keeps walking. Bullets barely making a limp, knocking someone out with a weapon and them having a mild concussion at best. No stretching or PT or creams for scarring, especially burn scarring. I can understand why that might not all be included but I enjoy a lot of realism for that kind of thing

3. Improper tagging. Should be given, I think. But a year ago, there I was. Maybe ten chapters into a smut fic. And bam there's guro and necrophilia in the latest one, not a tag or warning about it to be seen. Only when I come back days later bc of another update is it finally tagged, AFTER the chapter had went up. I understand going with the flow for things, but you should have a general idea of the events that will transpire. I know Butterfly Effect will have death, injuries, mutilation, torture, etc before I even wrote those plot points, bc thats the writer I am and bc I know how dark ill let it go. If there's something new, like recently I had to add the limb loss tag(we'd already wrote it I'd just forgot to add the tw) I update it immediately, even though I know it won't show up for many chapters

4. Stupid readers. NO braincells. Either too fuckin dumb to realize what other characters are lying about and thus start a miscommunication trope, or they keep trying to run/escape from, say, yan or villain characters. That is how you die, and I can't put myself into the mind of a dumbass, I'm sorry I can't

Oh god. So much. I'm afraid I'm not as creative as some people think. CAS, all TMNT, atla, Fire-Us, adventure time, and so many more. I specifically want to mention Fire-Us, though. A book series no one's read but me apparently, but there's just. So much. My love for drama, for scenic composition, large dynamic groups, family angst, killing off characters, leaving endings and deaths up to interpretation. Not showing every little action bc what the reader can imagine can often be so much better

Charlie and her Aunt: In the original script, "Charlie" was Jack's love interest. She was a newsgirl who lived in a brothel with her aunt (a prostitute). Her aunt was trying to protect and shield Charlie from going down that same path and at the end of the movie Charlie was to have gone with Jack to Santa Fe. [source]

Sarah Jacobs: In the film, Sarah Jacobs was the sister of David and Les as well as Jack's love interest. She is a working class woman who works crocheting dollies with her mother long before her father loses work. She ends up involved in the newsies strike and helps to print and distribute the Newsies Banner. In earlier scripts, Sarah was a self described socialist and had much more involvement in the story. Medda Larkson: To replace the character of Charlie's unnamed aunt, Medda was created [source]. She's a vaudeville/burlesque performer and the owner of Irving Hall. She knows Jack (possibly a friend of his father's but who knows if that was a lie) and is sympathetic to the newsies strike, allowing them to hold their rally at her theater.

Newsies the Musical

Katherine Plumber: When Newsies was adapted for the stage, Sarah Jacobs was cut from the story along with reporter Bryan Denton and replaced with the "intrepid reporter" Katherine Plumber (Pulitzer), loosely based/inspired by Nellie Bly. She is an upper class woman, the daughter of Joseph Pulitzer, and Jack's final love interest. Like Sarah, she becomes involved in the newsies strike and it is Katherine's idea to create and print the Newsies Banner. Along with other rewrites, the inclusion of Katherine makes the story less about class struggle and more about generational struggle. [source]

Medda Larkin: While Medda's significance to the story remains largely unchanged from film to stage musical, she was reworked in the transition from Paper Mill to Broadway with Aida Overton Walker in mind as new historical inspiration [source, page 16]. A small but interesting change is that stage Medda "knows the governor." This detail is never overtly explained.

The Bowery Beauties: The additional female performers at Irving Hall or Medda's theatre. They were likely included to retain vaudeville/burlesque elements while desexualizing Medda. (My own opinion not supported by any quotes or resources that I have found.)

So my question is: Why can't these characters coexist? Why is there a quota on female characters in Newsies? Was the shift away from darker topics concerning women's safety at the turn of the 19th century to inspire and empower women today? Or was it to sweep those harsh realities under the rug?

i'm mando, and i'm half a month from being exactly a decade younger than dan. first mask is a nod to my area of study, second is based off alebrijes. i'm gay as fuck and in an inchresting Situation that is extremely similar to phan except we're somehow not technically together. i started watching dnp (+listening to muse) a decade ago and even did a few phandom meetups back in the day, thought they were cringe for a while, and now i'm back to being cringe <3

i might want to do some music stuff if i ever get off my ass, but mostly i want to get back to writing rpf now that i have dnp's blessing... and to not let whatever i wrote in grade 8 be the only phan stuff i have out there :/

vox's sleeping habits/positions

RIGHT. SO.

box!vox probably slept semi-normally at first (but with the aid of a specialized pillow for his neck), seeing as TVs didn't have vents like we do today; so he slept just fine on his side or back (but sleeping on his stomach was a no-go, because while the pillow pressing on his throat wouldn't be much of a problem due to the vent/gills on his torso, he still had curved glass)

then when he got up the 80s VCR TVs (which gained obvious vents on the sides) he probably could only (comfortably) sleep on his back, because the vents were on the side of a TV more often then naught, and he still had curved glass on his head.

with the wonderful FLAT SCREEN TECHNOLOGY, at first it would've been similar to his 80s/90s boxheads, because flatscreen TV doesn't equal the casing, but just the glass (there were flatscreens in the late 60s, but were expensive to produce if you wanted to have okay graphics similar to that of curved glass if i remember correctly, so it was shelved for wide-spread use for a couple decades) would be flat (and the casing a little longer width-wise and thinner depth-wise),

So now he could sleep on his front and back, but then as flatscreens quickly become more and more modern, his vents would move to the back (because no space on the side),

and that leaves me with the assumption that Vox has to sleep on his stomach. i don't know what good this post has done anyone by having me yap about the correlation of development and refinement of TV ventilation systems and location of such things would affect what position Vox sleeps in, but here you go!
