Went to a very cute local yarn store this morning to pick up some yarn for a baby project that popped up. I didn't want to make my friend a 100% wool infant outfit. That just seemed mean. So I went out and got this gorgeous cotton, bamboo, and silk blend in nice bright green, blue and yellow.
I'm very excited to start this project, but I am going to do my #MendingMarch first. I need to make a dent in the pile.

The craft stores near me that are open on Sunday have disappointed me in my search for an incredibly specific item.

It's your party bus rental
I keep seeing the party bus post on Facebook where they suggest the ideal would be one that goes to places like bookstores and parks. People add in yarn shops and thrift stores and other places.
THERE IS NO REASON WE CAN'T CREATE OUR OWN IDEAL PARTY BUS OR LIMO EXPERIENCE. Get together with friends and plan one!

once you let yarn into your house it’s over. it’s like sand there will just always be more. “oh i’ll just make something with all the scraps” - congratulations you just entered the time loop idiot.

A tale of two yarn stores
This past week I went to two yarn stores near me and I wanted to compare them. I’m going to name them both and include the websites so if anyone wants to shop there and support a small business you can.
Store 1: 3 kittens needle arts
I liked the atmosphere, it was very open and bright with lots of windows. The owner was very nice and I enjoyed talking to her about both knitting and not knitting things. She asked if I needed help and then backed off when I said I was browsing which was nice. Anyone who’s been in a new yarn store knows it can be overwhelming so being able to wander was nice. I liked the yarn selection, but if you want to make something large you might have to order it since I didn’t see any sweater quantities. The only thing I didn’t like was the knit group was run like a class rather than a social gathering. I have no problem paying for project help if I need it, but not if I’m just hanging out.
Store 2: the yarnery
The first thing I need to address is the parking lot, which only had five spots, but there was street parking. (I can’t parallel park well so I had to park across the street but that isn’t the stores fault) I was greeted as soon as I walked it and asked if I needed help and every employee I passed as I looked around greeted me which was nice if you like that sort of thing. Store 2 was smaller than store 1 but somehow had a larger selection of yarn and made better use of the space. Store 2 also has a knitting group, that is free which I like, but not at a time that works for me. (Like the alanis morassette song ironic) They did offer some other options outside the store to find a group which I appreciated, building the community is more than just one store after all.
Prices were pretty consistent between the two stores, but store 2 had more local indie yarns (again community we love it). Both websites are easy to navigate for online shopping purposes. I like that store 1 has a youtube page for tutorials linked to their site. Likewise I like that store 2 offers store pick up for their online orders. I like store 2 better overall, but store one is closer so if I need something that both stores have I’ll still shop at store 1.

Walking into a yarn shop like it's an art museum. Admiring all the colorways and textures of the various skeins. Nodding my head at the tasteful displays of handmade items by the local knitting/crochet group to demonstrate the different yarn brands. Talking to the owner to learn more about the local fiber art scene and learning about different dyers, and crafters in the area that I would have never found on the internet. Buying one too many skeins to continue my pursuit of creating beautiful things to bring joy into mine and others lives. My way of paying homage to this wonderland of fibrous beauty.
Fucking glorious.

yarn store
There are many different types of yarn out there - by chunky to slim, natural fibers to be able to synthetic blends. A yarn store will be a shop that specializes in selling yarn along with other knitting supplies. Wool stores typically hold a wide selection of yarns in different colors, fibers, in addition to weights, as effectively as needles, habits, and other sewing supplies. ABCwools. contendo is the Indian? s largest wool store.

Another bonus to learning a fiber art is being able to speak to others in a Lovecraftian language that nobody else understands...
...and also being able to read things like THIS:

daily gentle reminder that the words we use to describe ourselves are labels. they're not immutable states of being, they're not all-encompassing, they're not permanent, they're not universal; labels are just words that we use to indicate something about our experience that we find important enough to communicate to others. if your experience with attraction is significantly different enough from a typical allo experience then aspec labels are there for you to use as long as you want them; and conversely, what aspec labels communicate is just that someone's experience is aligned enough with what we describe as aromanticism/asexuality to warrant telling people about it. you never need a label, you never need to keep a label, you never need to justify a label, and you never need to use a label for anything besides what you want it for. it's not a contract. it's an adjective that you can choose to use or not to use. all it needs to do is be useful for you. 💚🖤
