This idea has been kicking around in my head for a while... Thoughts?

Basically, a 14-year-old Uenoyama is sick after a show (like really sick because he was hiding it to play this show because it was just a headache and low grade fever - amateur stuff) and Kaji and Haruki take care of him. It's really cute in my head so I'll try to do the head cannon notes justice :) Let me know your thoughts:

Basically after their show, Ritsuka pukes in Haruki’s car. All three are driving back after their show (they’ve only been preforming/ practicing a few months) that is about three hours away. Since they are newly formed, they’ll take anything they can get. The fourth member of the band rode back with his girlfriend (some tension there between him and the other three), and Haruki/ Kaji talk in the front seat, smoking while driving through the dark; Ritsuka “sleeping” in the back, his head against the window. He’s been fairly quiet and sluggish since their show ended, but the older two chalk it up to him being drained between starting High School and practicing/ performing; besides, Uenoyama wasn’t really a talker/ sharer. They’ve been practicing a lot lately to get their sound right as they are still learning how to work with each others sound/ technique.

Ritsuka ends up jerking awake and vomiting on himself/ in the backseat, and Haruki pulls over all flustered as him and Kaji get out, opening the side door. The 14-year-old is all lethargic and sweaty (and gross); he has a high fever, barely responding to Kaji’s questions or Haruki’s touches as he tries to clean him up; pulling the kid’s soiled shirt from him and giving the teen his jacket for now as Kaji coaxes him to take some water Haruki had in his trunk. It comes back up.

They end up taking the 14-year-old to a clinic. Haruki in the waiting area while Kaji calls Ritsuka’s sister to explain what was going on. Him pacing outside, flicking his cigarette ash to the ground as Haruki reflects. The clinic gives the teenager fluids and want to keep him over night but don’t have any open beds available- they opt to send him “home” with some meds, explaining the kid would need rest and that he probably has a stomach bug.

After some bickering, Haruki and Kaji decide to check in at a dingy motel a few blocks over; Kaji gripping his arm around the swaying teenager as Haruki unlocks the door. The room is plain to say the least- one bed, one couch and cheap decorations. But considering the two college students didn’t have much money, and Ritsuka wasn’t a complainer, the room would work for the night. Besides Yayoi said she’d feel better if her brother got some rest versus finishing the two hour drive back at 2am.

Ritsuka getting worse throughout the night (puking, can’t keep anything down, fever, headache, everything), his temperature remaining steady because the clinic explained that it could take a while for his body to respond to the fluids. Haruki waking up to Kaji talking softly to Ritsuka in the bathroom as the kid retches (it’s alright. You’re alright, little dude. It’s okay…) At one point, the 14-year-old breaks down, demanding his sister (which freaks out Haruki because it’s so out of place) but Yayoi usually takes care of him when he’s sick after their mom. Kaji manages to make a deal with the teenager to let Haruki help clean him up (something he’s been trying to do for a while like changing his shirt again or washing his hair or wiping him off, etc… getting the kid to drink more or take meds) and Kaji will call his sister so they can talk. Ritsuka finally agrees and Kaji calls Yayoi at 4/5am (she curses Kaji out at first for waking her, ie Haruki overhearing Kajis conversation in the other room - “yeah, he wants to talk to you. No, but if it doesn’t break by morning, we’ll take him back to the clinic…”) so the kid can talk to her/ she can calm him down. Yayoi says that Ritsuka can get emotional if he’s overly exhausted/ not feeling well.

Haruki stepping out of the bathroom when Ritsuka starts talking to his sister because the kid breaks basically the second he hears her voice, saying he wants to go home, he doesn’t feel well and he wants her, etc.

Kaji, leaning against the door as Haruki lets out a steady breath, swallowing thickly as the 14-year-old chokes.

“You okay?”

Haruki nods, clearing his throat, “Yeah. Just kind of forgot he’s a lot younger than us…”

Haruki/ Kaji being best bros to the teenager- “You gotta tell us these things man. We’re a band… maybe more than a band. We’re like brothers.”

Haruki being sweet and gentle despite feeling awkward. Him sleeping next to the 14-year-old because the kid asked shyly to not be alone - Yayoi scolded him for not letting Haruki or Kaji help - Kaji speaking lowly, referring to Ritsuka as “little dude, little man, kid,” etc. He has sisters so he knows a few things about taking care of someone. Kaji sleeping on the crappy couch, arguing with Yayoi on the phone… comes back from a convenience store run to Ritsuka sleeping against Haruki, Haruki running his fingers through the kids hair and Kaji joking around but in reality, it’s cute.

Yeah. Maybe I’ll try dabbling this week as I am off for a week and half. But I have the idea of Ritsuka getting sick and Haruki/ Kaji (they flirt with each other playfully - Kaji mentions that Haruki’s hair is getting long/ Haruki saying he’s gunna cut it soon and Kaji saying he shouldn’t because it’s pretty which leads to Haruki blushing) caring for this kid they’ve heard rumors about as a guitarist prodigy, a kid they barely know. It being awkward at first because they’ve only known each other for a few months. Tension with the fourth member. Thoughts?

Let's talk about Yayoi, and what we understand of Akihiko and his changing feelings towards Ugetsu and Haruki through her eyes and behavior.

I call it the curious case of one Kaji Akihiko.

I feel like Yayoi has known Akihiko for longer than Haruki.

They're in the same year, so it seems feasible.

And one of Yayoi's first impressions of Aki was that he wouldn't hide whom he loved at all. His eyes always followed them.

(Yeah its not like he changed. its just that NOW HE CAN BE HIMSELF)

So she knew of Ugetsu and should've known that she had no chance right?

But still she jokingly confessed to Aki, and he turned her down.

Yet she didn't give up entirely.

I'm guessing Aki's behavior towards the person she thought he had a crush on changed somehow, and that gave her hope that she could still have a chance, even if a little bit?

So, even after she was rejected we had seen her riding together with Akihiko. Or them being friendly in the campus.

Akihiko seems pretty fond of her. He has a tendency of taking care of people he likes anyway. And he likes Yayoi, that much is evident.

So much so, that Haruki thinks that she is his girlfriend.

Akihiko's behavior is pretty curious here too. We know that he was trying to hide his shameful gigolo image from Haruki.

Like here, in this flashback, he noticed Haruki and he was all like, 'don't talk to me now.' to his companion.

It's more like he wants Haruki to notice him with this respectable beautiful girl, (who also happens to be Ritsuka's sister. Yayoi is NOT harmful for his image in front of Haruki.)

It's more or less clear that at this point of time Akihiko wasn't thinking of ever trying to woo Haruki, or date him. He was just hiding his true self and his ugly relationship and his shameful lifestyle from Haruki as not to make him hate him, or see him as inferior.

But it didn't change the fact that he was inadvertently falling in love with Haruki.

(Here's one thing I am sure of, Akihiko met Haruki right after Ugetsu broke up with him out of nowhere, and it was from the very first meeting that Haruki became his savior, his go to comfort blanket if you will.)

Well, so going back to Yayoi, she went to the summer competition, of course for Ritsuka, but more importantly to try to get closer to Akihiko.

She totally wasn't aware of Haruki at this time. But she was wary of Ugetsu, as she should've been. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Just look at her face when Ugetsu showed up here.

(Also notice Akihiko's expression here please! He is so on edge that Ugetsu actually showed up at his safe place, his band's performance! 😭 I always say every panel and every expression in given matters and just please please please pay attention to them.)

Ah! These panels are hilarious, they were funny the first time I read them, but in retrospect, they are even funnier.

Haruki jealous of the person he thinks is Akihiko's girlfriend, that alleged girlfriend Yayoi wary of the person she thinks Akihiko is in love with but may be slowly getting over.

And ugetsu all smug.

He has no idea what's gonna hit him LMAO.

Anyyyway, here's where things get interesting.

At this point Akihiko had trauma bonding with Ugetsu, but he had fallen in love with Haruki.

From right after Ugetsu showed up, Akihiko's behavior is noteworthy. He is on edge and extra clingy to Haruki.

Just look at his face here. He didn't have any reason to be that shaken here in normal circumstances.

And then in the very next panel we have this Yayoi, noticing the look on Akihiko's face looking at Haruki. We can't see his eyes, keeping true to Kizu's style.

But yeah it's the very next panels. And what she sees is Akihiko for no reason at all following Haruki like a lost puppy.

Really, he didn't need to follow Haruki like that that very moment.

Ritsuka had already took off, things had been taken care of.

He just needed to be closer to Haruki to calm his nerves, what with Ugetsu's presence putting more pressure on him.

And notice these panels of Yayoi, uncanny similarity with Ugetsu's "bye bye Akihiko" while he goes chasing after Haruki.

And then we see Haruki as the one totally in charge here. Looking after everyone, calming everyone down.

The moment Haruki is trying to go do things a little away from Akihiko, Akihiko is all like, I will go with you too!

He is not needed there, Haru isn't even looking at him, Take Chan is one of the organizers and obviously Haruki is the one to set everything up for their band.

He just can't be away from Haruki for a moment.

And he needs Haruki to look at him, pay attention to him.

Yes, he wants Haruki to know how important Haruki is for them and their band, but that's more for his own sake than Haruki's sake here.

Haruki might not have noticed, and we might have not noticed the first time reading it, but really, Haruki just saved Akihiko here again too. Not the band, but Akihiko himself.

And how cute is his “I might end up dying too?” Knowing full well Haruki would react the way he did? He just wanted Haruki to care for him😭

And Yayoi witnessed it, and witnessed Akihiko looking at Haruki during the performance. And how heartbroken she must had been, to know that Akihiko is surely getting over one person, but has fallen for another one like this, too deep, too desperate? And it's not her?

😭

Her love remained one sided.

Thank God for Take Chan!

He is way better for Yayoi than Akihiko could ever be anyway. 😭

If Uenoyama had known this is how his day would have turned out, he would have just stayed home. Being at his house, his sister and father gone for the weekend, would have been better than his current situation. And less embarrassing. Humiliating.

It started out as a headache, a small annoying ache across the bridge of his nose and behind his eyes as he waved to his father as they pulled out on the street, leaving him behind so he could go to school and practice with his band… and spend time with his boyfriend. His stomach had followed later that evening, making the noodles his sister had prepared ahead of time, difficult to eat. He thought all he needed was rest. After all, Given had been practicing like hell lately to prepare for their next gig, and school exams were coming up, so sleep was getting hard to come by.

By Friday morning as Uenoyama begrudgingly walked through the gates of his school, smiling towards Mafuyu as the red-head made his way towards him, the 17-year-old realized, that might not have been the case. Despite getting a few decent hours of uninterrupted sleep and choking down a few Aspirin, along with whatever the hell his sister had left out for him for breakfast, his headache had worsened and his stomach even more so.

All-in-all, his day hadn’t gone great. But things went from bad to worse after classes ended, and he followed Mafuyu back to his apartment to practice and hang out. They hadn’t spent a whole lot of time together outside of rehearsal, even less as just the two of them. Working several jobs a week made alone time rare. Never mind the stress from school didn’t help, so the Friday hang out/ date night was something they both were looking forward to. And something Uenoyama really didn’t want to cancel.

However, had he known this is where he’d end up, he’d have canceled in a heartbeat. Because cancelling, staying in a quiet lonely house for the weekend, would have been better than this. Preferred even. Given his current situation.

Instead, the 17-year-old found himself hunched over the toilet, puking his guts out for what had to be the fourth time, in Mafuyu’s cramped bathroom while his boyfriend hovered over him. He wasn’t entirely sure when things took a turn. One minute him and Mafuyu were tuning their guitars and joking with each other; the next, he’s vomiting up the tea the younger had offered when they got there.

“Uenoyama?”

Mafuyu’s concerned voice hit his ears as the 17-year-old leaned his sweaty forehead against his arm on the rim of the toilet. He swallowed thickly as Mafuyu’s hand trailed gently up his back, pulling some hair away from his face. He closed his eyes, soft fingers carding through greasy sweaty locks. This. Sucked. So. Fucking. Much.

He didn’t want to look at Mafuyu. Not right now. Not like this. He always tried so hard to be cool in front of his boyfriend. To appear tough. Hell, the only other people outside of his family who’d seen him sick like this, was Haruki and Kaji (a memory Uenoyama barely recalled as he’d been 14 and had one hell of a fever.) But right now, Mafuyu’s normally comforting grasp was nothing more than a reminder of his current situation. Not only had he thrown up in front of the younger several times within the past two hours, but he probably looked just as bad as he felt.

Sweat plastered to him roughly as his hair matted against flushed skin. His head hurt more than anything, making his stomach even more nauseous and hard to keep down the water his boyfriend had offered him several times. Honestly, Uenoyama would chalk this up to a migraine, something he hadn’t had since he was a kid, except for the fact that he was shivering, sweat soaking his shirt, making it cling to his back and chest uncomfortably. So, he had a fever too, which was uncommon with the headaches he’d sometimes get. All-in-all, he probably had some stomach bug that’d been going around school. And instead of staying home like he’d planned, he forced himself to school, to see Mafuyu, trying to be a good son and boyfriend. An almost laughable cosmic result to his efforts. He really should have just stayed home. Because being alone and miserable was better than being this vulnerable, this uncool, this pathetic, and miserable.

            Mafuyu hummed lowly, his fingers brushing against Uenoyama’s sweaty cheek as the ladder groaned, pulling himself back over the toilet. Uenoyama clenched his eyes, saliva building in his mouth as his stomach cramped. Part of him wanted to curl up against his boyfriend, giving in to his soft grip, letting himself be cared for – let himself be weak. Part of him wanted Mafuyu to hold him, to soothe all the shit that his body was trying to force to the surface through fevered skin, a spinning head, and nauseous stomach.

            Another part of him wanted to tell Mafuyu to leave. To go back to his room, to leave him alone to wallow in his own misery until he found enough of his footing to make it to the train station, to make it home. It wasn’t that his boyfriend had done anything wrong; hell, he’d been glued to him since Uenoyama unceremoniously sprinted to the bathroom after trying his best to shove his guitar as gently as possible away from his twisting stomach. If anything, the amount of attention he was being showered with was almost addicting, the comfort he wanted so badly to give into… it was embarrassing really.

            But that wasn’t his style. He didn’t like showing weakness. But right now, weakness was all he fucking had. To make matters worse, he couldn’t look any weaker if he tried. He couldn’t keep anything down, and the fever was making it harder to concentrate, to hold himself up, to breathe properly. Never mind the fact that he’d been cramped in the bathroom, vomiting for the last two hours, in front of his boyfriend… in front of the person he’d just been making out with. The person he’d been intimate with, who-

            The 17-year-old lurched, coughing up the pitiful amount of water he’d choked down not even twenty minutes ago as Mafuyu adjusted his grasp, shushing him gently. In the hallway, Kedama yipped, spinning slightly before sitting down, and Uenoyama gagged roughly, his boyfriend’s hand gently trailing up and down his sweat-soaked shirt...

→ blinks slowly at the sight of you in one of his oversized sweatshirts

→ pretends he doesn’t care

→ he’s about to latch on you and kiss you

→ “no, you look ugly”

→ showers you with kisses as an apology

Hiiragi

→you wore his favorite striped t-shirt to go out for coffee

→ “are you sure you wanna wear that”

→ “why not?”

→ he runs to the bathroom and washes his face

→ probably teared up but played it cool

→ would joke and say something like “damn shawty, looking good” and you’d beg him not to let those words come out his mouth ever again

god I love them all so much [still have mixed feelings about akihiko cough cough (^_-) ] anyway I haven’t seen any x reader for the Given characters yet so I hope someone likes this lol
