“hey.”
atsumu's gruff and sleepy voice almost startles you as you push your phone away from ear because of how deep it sounded.
“dude, are you making your voice sound deep?” you ask, feigning concern.
you hear him scoff over the other line “no, what the hell? why would i do that?”
“i don’t know, you sound weird.” you say and he scoffs again, “i just woke up.”
“oh,” you hum, “afternoon nap?”
“yeah,” he says and you laugh, “what woke you up then? you usually sleep like a baby.”
“i had a dream,” he mumbles and you’re surprised at how quiet he sounds.
“what was it about?” you ask, curious.
you hear him take a deep breath, “it was a wedding.”
“...okay?” you say, now really confused, “whose wedding?”
“yours.” he says and you let out a surprised laugh, “wow, really?”
“yeah.” he says and you laugh again, “okay, who was i getting married to?”
he pauses, and you’re surprised at the sudden quietness that falls over the two of you, you almost thought he hung up the line, “me.” he finally says.
now it was your turn to pause, “oh.” you utter out, your heart beating in your chest, “that’s…nice.” you have no idea how to react.
“that's all?” he asks and it comes out before he could even stop himself.
“what do you mean?” you laugh awkwardly.
atsumu decides to play it off cool and he fakes a loud scoff, “i mean, wouldn’t you like to get married to me?”
you’re surprised for a moment before laughing again, “no — you’re my best friend, why would i want to get married to you?” that’s a lie.
“i am offended.” atsumu whines, trying to ignore how his heart breaks just a little bit.
you laugh — you have no idea of his ongoing feelings for you, it’s not like he’s ever made it clear to you that he liked you that way, he acted how a normal best friend would.
and now that dream.
“i tell you what,” you say, and your voice drops a bit lower, “by the time we’re thirty, if we’re both still single, we get married to each other, yeah? call it a back up plan.”
atsumu’s heart beats a little faster and his face brightens up, though you can’t see it, “really?” you laugh, “yeah, it would be cool, for us to be together you know.” now you were just dropping hints.
“that would be cool,” he says, “really cool.”
maybe he will get married to you for real one day.
