What color would u say Akira’s eyes are? I see a lot of people say gray and I’ve also seen red, but I always thought they were a dark brown
You’re starting a cult around him so I figured you’d have an opinion
ok 1) not starting a cult that's just an in-joke making fun of a silly anon i got. 2) yes i do have an opinion. but also ...... FACTS !!! I usually go grey as the normal default but I understand the confusion. Official artworks for merchandise range from black to a light blue 😭. Lets take a trip down model / reference lane, shall we? First up: P5D!
Tumblr media
We'll rope P5 / P5R into this too, because it's the same colour. Akira's eyes appear this shade... almost always! The metaverse, the real world... grey as graphite. Ah, but "almost! almost!?" you cry! Yes, yes. There's one exception.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recall the persona awakening scene. Recall *all* of them, actually. All persona users have their eyes turn yellow when tearing their mask off.
This holds true for their models as well! For a few frames, during the summoning animation, their faces turn black and their eyes turn yellow. It's easier to see on some characters than others. (Others being joker. this took me SO long to scrub for.) Now, lets look at his sprites! So I guess we can call this part uh, Persona Q.A? (That's what these sprites are from, anyway...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now these eyes definitely look black! Honestly I think you could argue that the previous set were black too. On their own, they seem grey but the key thing to compare them with here is Akira's hair. They're both the same colour in the sprites and uh, that's definitely not grey hair. Now the anime! I won't be covering P5A: The Daybreakers because. Well. It'd just be more "Wow it's black. Now it's black again." P5A Is interesting because I swear to god his eyes were red when they were in mementos. but i must've imagined that???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's just not a thing that happens! It's grey! The only exception is the... [shudders] All Out Attack. (Which also happens in P5:the game. forgot to mention that earlier; but it could be chalked up to mere aesthetic choice)
Tumblr media
My assumption about red-eyes is at least partially true though. Nnnot in the sense that what I thought happened, happened, but more-so... Whenever Joker is depicted with red eyes, it's in his PT outfit. And like... only that outfit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mementos mission loves doing it. p5a does it. Artists do it. my BRAIN does it. Q2 also does it!! (hi all out attack. again)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
other notable mentions for Doin' It Red While Being Joker are Akirby and the Official Jonker Nendo. Idk what that means but! Yeah
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few promo arts do the red-eyes thing like this original key art and multiple official illustrations for p5's release. I think it's just a fun aesthetics thing honestly. p5 is red. akira is from p5. slap some red on that bitch on him eye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ key art | strikers art | og p5 art ] So that solves that mystery. I think the idea of brown eyes either comes from being realistic (black eyes irl are just really really dark brown) op's colour palette ooooooooooor.... misunderstanding an official palette!
Tumblr media
This is Q2's cut in graphic. The eyes look kind of brown, right? But it's mostly just a lighting thing. The face is darkened and the eye's colour is lightened to give that slick piercing-gaze-through-the-shadows effect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Q2 Akira is pretty pasty, as we can see here. the skintone matches the brightest highlight in the cut-in image.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
striker's sprites eyes look pretty brown too, but if you look at the hair and shadows, you can see it's because everything has a brown hue. we're doing black without doing black! (...except for the deepest shadows and lines, but cmon. if you put black on black its just gonna look like a big ol' blob.) this same effect is often used in many tribute artworks for p5 that aren't in the usual black/white/single colour style or crossover artwork because............ well it's basic colour theory. The only exception to the "rules" i've laid out here I have ever seen is the artwork done for Persora The Golden Best 5th Album artwork.
Tumblr media
WHY ARE THEY BLUE. THAT'S WRONG. anyway. hoped this post helps you. my personal opinion is grey / silver if i wanna get all OOooh FANCY when writing a fic and waxing poetic and then yellow when summoning a persona or using some kind of spell in mementos. don't see brown in the slightest and red... yeah, i'll pass on having that be his default in mementos? maybe? idk i go back and forth on it lol. just get jiggy with it

I am about to cry.
Rest in peace. Oh my gosh. What a legend. He will be missed for generations.
He's been gone for that long??? I literally went a week thinking about his works randomly in passing and he was gone?
I would never claim to have a vested interest in Akira Toriyama because its not true and him passing doesn't change that. He was however, the creator of a series that brought decades of bonding with my brothers. He was the creator of the series that inspired and continues to inspire manga authors, animators and comic creator's worldwide. Even as I read the author notes in my Naruto or Fairy Tail volumes, the name Akira Toriyama was always brought up by them at least once. In reference to the inspiration he was for all the mangaka that went on to contribute to the Shonen genre.
He was also the creator of the series that made me appreciate animation, and helped me discover that I had potential as an artist even at just 11 years old. As a child living with my 5 siblings, 4 which were my brothers, Dragon Ball Z was practically on 24/7. Did I know enough about the world outside the screen to recognize the name of Akira Toriyama at the time? No I definitely didn't. But I still was motivated to learn the style even just a little. And I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't a fan of dragon ball. I'd be lying if I said I was a casual fan. Saying I'm a semi casual fan of Dragon Ball Z is more closer to the truth. The series is and always has been with me whether I acknowledge it or not. I love Dragon Ball Z much like all my fellow manga/anime fans.
There was a silly game my brothers and me were playing where whoever drew Gohan the best, won the Hero Factory build contest (it was a tie or something so the following art contest was the tie breaker) Well, I drew Gohan in his Piccolo Gi from the Cell Games from memory, cape and all. My siblings practically said I won as a unanimous vote. Sadly, I misplaced that drawing the very night I drew it and I remember being so devastated to have lost it. Clearly because I remember vividly enough to ramble about it now. The point is, winning that silly contest and drawing Son Gohan from memory was what I believe motivated me to pursue art even a little more than before.
So yes, I think I can thank Akira Toriyama for that. Funny the things you realize when you lose something important.
So all this to say, I am extremely saddened and honestly shocked that Akira Toriyama is no longer on Earth with us. Its surreal in a way I wasn't prepared for. He was even younger than Stan Lee and I remember being just as effected by his passing. Its interesting how a societal figure you always knew and could check in on or hear news about for most of your life, suddenly isn't there anymore.
Its silly. I was just thinking a few hours ago about what the difference in my interests and personal pursuits were if I didn't watch TV with my brothers as a little girl. Would I have discovered Sailor Moon on my own? Would I have delved into magical girls before 2022? Would I even know or like anime??? Would I watch avatar??? And then one of the key figures from that world I grew up with my brothers in turns out to have passed away a mere week before I think like this.
Anyway, these are my immediate thoughts from this news. I'm grateful to Akira Toriyama, I only wish I took the time know him and his story better while he was with us.
Rest in peace sensei, you've earned it.
Akira Toriyama 1955-2024

been thinking about persona and its depiction of motherhood. or: what it doesn't depict.
this started with me being annoyed that there is yet another dead saintly mother in persona 5 tactica. then I started considering: wait, when are persona mothers not saintly? when are persona mothers human? and the answer is: almost never.
I cast my mind back, thinking over all of the prominent depictions of mothers in the series. I think the one that stands out the most to me is Maki's mother in Persona 1. She loves her daughter unconditionally, but she also screws up sometimes, and doesn't spend enough time with her sickly daughter in the hospital, causing her daughter to resent her.
After that, the next one I can think of is Junko, from Persona 2. She isn't nearly as prominent as Maki's mother is in the narrative, but her focus on beauty over her child is certainly something of note that I wish the story had explored more (even if, as a girl who married a teacher and gave birth a short span of years later, as far as I remember, her obsession with her beauty and youth is understandable). In the end she seems to regret her actions and how they affected Jun.
Then we have Yukari's mother, Persona 3, who Yukari doesn't get along with due to how they dealt differently with her father's death. It's a big rift between the two that only slowly begins to heal, and that shows that both sides are human and how they were hurt and split apart by a tragedy that they might have better dealt with together.
After that... We have very little. What mother figure exists in Persona 4? We have Nanako's mother, who died tragically but is referred to as a loving and wonderful woman. What mother figure exists in Persona 5? We have Akechi's mother, who died tragically but is referred to as a loving and wonderful woman. Same with Wakaba, who is distorted by Futaba's perception of her, but is ultimately a kind and loving mother. Persona 5 Strikers? Akane's mother. Persona 5 Tactica? Toshiro's mother.
If we consider the Confidants, in Persona 5 we do have Shinya's mother, who... is overprotective, yes, but also loves her son very dearly. There is no resentment, merely concern that goes too far.
There are many absent or missing mothers in Persona, all of whom are said to have been loving and kind and wonderful woman. Several times, people will repeat lines about the unconditional and wonderful love of a mother. There are so many loving and kind and wonderful mothers that it seems like recent Persona games take for granted this idea that "mothers will always love their children", which seems rather ridiculous when compared to the presence of abusive fathers (Akechi, Ryuji, Akira in Strikers, and now Toshiro).
This sort of double standard, wherein lines about the unconditional love of a mother, even when their children come from men who are cruel or unkind to them, are spouted whilst men are shown to be abusive, annoys me. It is as if women must have some sort of inherent goodness, some inherent quality of motherhood which men lack, that makes men more prone to abuse.
The Persona series is no stranger to having issues with gender - look at the depiction of drag in Persona 4 and 5, the one-off transgender woman in Persona 3 who was depicted as predatory, the trans NPC in Persona 2 who wants to rip men's dicks off - but I don't think people often talk about how it choose, in recent years, time and time again, to depict mothers as holy saints.
I was playing Tactica, watching Futaba insist on the love of mothers and Toshiro's cognition of his dead mother insist that she loved him dearly, and I thought: why? Why is this trope of the saintly dead mother so pervasive in recent Persona games?
I hope it stops soon.

Flashback | BIOHAZARD 5
Writer: Akira (日日日)
Characters: Rei, Koga, Kaoru, Adonis
Koga: Quit messin' around, "Vampire Bastard~!" The hell d'ya mean, pajama party, huh? Rei: My, what a nostalgic form of address. It has been quite a while since I last referred to you as "Puppy," did you miss it terribly?
[ For the best viewing experience, please read directly on my blog! ♪ ]
Time: That night.
Tumblr media
Location: The accommodations provided at the AIIE Experimental Facility.
Rei: Yaaay, it's a sleepover with everyone from UNDEAD~ ♪ Fufu. We would have had a magnificent opportunity to host a pajama party during the SS preliminaries, but alas, Kaoru-kun was torn from our midst and cast into the desert. He alone had to suffer undue hardship. I am elated that the four of us can now enjoy a slumber party toge- woah?!
Tumblr media
Koga: ......
Rei: Koga? It is impolite to suddenly throw steamed buns at people, yes? Or do you mean to say you wish to play ball with these?
Koga: Quit messin' around, "Vampire Bastard~!" The hell d'ya mean, pajama party, huh?
Rei: My, what a nostalgic form of address. It has been quite a while since I last referred to you as "Puppy," did you miss it terribly?
Koga: It ain't meant to be nostalgic! I'm insultin' ya, you asshole!
Rei: I would truthfully be quite troubled if thou were to abruptly begin disparaging me, so kindly refrain from venting thy frustrations on me. All four of us agreed to participate in this experiment together. What merit is there in complaining about the matter at this juncture?
Koga: I didn't agree to shit! We were basically coerced into it. If we'd refused to be used as guinea pigs, then those innocent Ra*bits would've gotten dragged in instead. Rather than havin' to sit around worryin' over whether someone out there is sufferin' some unknown fate cause a' me, it's way better for my mental health if I just run into the flames myself. Don't forget, I'm not actually on board with this shit at all.
Tumblr media
Kaoru: Ah ha ha. This whole experiment thing is definitely a bit shady and off-putting, but don't you think it also sounds kind of interesting? When you hear about "AI Idols" and stuff — it really makes it feel like science has come as far as it can, doesn't it? Like those old sci-fi movies!
Tumblr media
Kaoru: If this really had just been a movie— no, even if it had just had nothing to do with me personally, I might have really enjoyed hearing about it.
Adonis: Though I also find this all slightly uncomfortable, I do think it is interesting from a science and technology standpoint. The future which people envisioned when they came up with things like V*caloid and AI art programs is now unfolding before our eyes. When people in the past dreamed of the future for sci-fi stories, this is the world they imagined. For better or for worse, it's like living in a dream. It makes my heart pound.
Kaoru: Ahaha. It's like, totally a boy's romance, isn't it? I don't dislike that kind of thing. After all, I'm the son of a scholar who reached out to the sea in search of romance and mystery.
Adonis: I also do not dislike the idea of venturing out into the unknown.
Tumblr media
Rei: Realistically speaking, had we spurned this request, there existed the possibility that our agency would have given up on us. Rhythm Link adheres rather strictly to the dictates of the corporate hierarchy, after all. To not be thrown by the wayside, our participation 'twas a necessary evil. Moreover, should the project prove triumphant, the prospect of substantial reward awaits us. Simply put, we stand to profit. 'Tis true that we still boast a surplus of funds, having garnered quite a considerable sum during SS, so the monetary reward is not so alluring. Yet, if the "artificial idol" experiment is successfully realized and publicized, the spotlight will fall on us as its primary test subjects. Such a scenario would prove quite advantageous for us, yes?
Tumblr media
Koga: None a' that has a~anythin' to do with the real problem. They're just tryin' t'buy time cause they dunno how to deal with us. We'd better not end up lookin' like idiots who wasted all our time on this wild goose chase.
Rei: A most salient point. As Koga says, let us all carefully consider how we might solve our fundamental problem. Fortunately, we have plenty of time available to do so.
Kaoru: Yeah… I felt a bit nervous since they called it an experiment, but we, like, basically just have to spend the night here, right?
Rei: Indeed. We have been supplied medicine capable of inducing sleep for around half a day. During that time, data shall be collected through the devices affixed to our heads. While not sleeping, we are permitted to engage in exercise to prevent our bodies from suffering physical deterioration, as well as eat to maintain our vigor. We four shall live together harmoniously. The experiment shall last for approximately one week's time. For the duration of the testing period, all other engagements hath been prohibited to us, for extraneous stimuli may taint the data. Thus, our smartphones and other such devices have been seized, and we shall remain isolated from the outside world.
Kaoru: Kinda feels like we're hospital inpatients, or maybe prisoners… Oh well, it's an easy job where all we have to do is slack off.
Rei: Mm. There would be no harm in taking this chance to relax. 'Tis not a complete waste of time, as we shall receive our due pay regardless of whether the experiment succeeds or fails. Fortunately, the environment we are to live in is far preferable to that of a hospital or prison. Look here, we have been provided with cards and board games to while away the time. Until the time comes for us to work— Or rather, before we must answer sleep's call, let us play together.
Koga: Ain't you actin' waaaay too chill about this?
Rei: 'Tis good if you see it thus. As a child, I always behaved unnervingly like an adult. Thus I lacked experiences such as this, wherein one might have a sleepover with their peers. And so… Though the future remains uncertain, in this moment, I can confidently state that I am utterly delighted ♪

Hi🌻💕💕💕
🍌 In your opinion, what’s the funniest joke/reference/pun you’ve made in a fic?
🍐 Is there anything in canon that you absolutely hate and love to fix in fics? A wrong choice made, a fuck-up in characterization, a misunderstanding never cleared up, a conversation never shown onscreen, etc…
🍈 Who’s your blorbo and what are some of your favorite headcanons/ideas about them that repeatedly show up in your fics? Free pass to rant about blorbo opinions.
Hi Sisdiss 🥰
🍌 I don't know if I've really cracked joke-jokes, I usually prefer ludicrous scenarios in the body text and then A/N memes afterwards, but.... Favourite silly situation is Squad Two's night out drinking in No Tomorrow and favourite A/N joke is, in Until Dawn Breaks, when I cracked jokes about Ao and Shisui's dynamic (imagining Shisui fleeing Kiri with the Scooby Doo chase music over the top lmao) but it's a very close competition with everything Akira has ever said lol
(I forgot the oneshot Coffee Shop AU where Genma is very cringe when hitting on Shisui and Kakashi... This one probably wins for the joke lines)
🍐(the entire mess of Narutoverse canon and timelines?) well, I'm a repeat offender for saving Shisui's life but, more broadly, I love to actually break down a particular character's motivations, actions and abilities and think 'okay but how would these events REALLY play out now?' and then fuck around and find out 😂
🍈 OKAY toot toot Shisui-centric alert! Blorbo rant incoming~
Shisui is just.... Amazing. If you have a short list of the shared characteristics of Amazing Characters, someone being genuinely loyal, having integrity, and keeping hope is just.... Yes. Double points for being a sweetheart with horrible trauma and angsty obligations to both system and clan!
Shisui has, frankly, the worst Mangekyou ability because it's also the strongest and the scariest (at least with Itachi you know you're being tortured, Kotoamatsukami has very scary ramifications for reality and free will). Don't come for me with a list of the others (Shisui never actually uses Kotoamatsukami in canon and yet he's at THAT level with his genjutsu and speed? Kamui, Izanagi, etc etc, are OP and versatile but Kotoamatsukami is literally unstoppable and unbreakable and untraceable and if Kishi didn't make that stupid, nonsense rule about 'ten years' and didn't kill off Shisui when he realised just how insanely OP he'd made Kotoamatsukami, then Shisui would literally be the top Uchiha EVER) because I can whip out a thesis defence of how terrifying Kotoamatsukami is (ten years after one use is BULLSHIT and we're ignoring it) and how I literally would never trust any other character than Shisui with that ability (including Itachi, because he's proven an alarming propensity for following orders without thinking ANYTHING through - why the fuck are you trusting Danzo, who stole Shisui's eye and made him jump???? UMMM).
Uchiha are known for their eyes, if an Uchiha is powerful it's because of their eyes. Look at Itachi, his torturing genjutsu is like the Boogeyman of Narutoverse for so long, Madara and Izuna's eye angst defines them, they all play tug of war over Rinnegan and Eternal Mangekyou, Sasuke uses ninjutsu and kenjutsu only to whip his eyes out and cut the fight off at the knees, Obito literally uses Kamui as often as possible, even Kakashi is known for his borrowed Sharingan rather than Hatake or personal abilities.
...but not Shisui.
Oh, Shisui has a genuinely ridiculously powerful Sharingan but he NEVER uses THE technique. He uses regular genjutsu to scare the shit out of everyone, even sending Ao and Kiri Hunter-nin fleeing without even physically engaging with him; just the sight of Shisui watching them and a touch of his chakra is enough for Ao (THE Hunter-nin's top dog from THE Bloody Mist) to break a sweat and abandoned the mission.
Shisui is known for the Shunshin, something so basic and easy that every Genin and ninken can do it. Its like meeting someone so good at skipping rope that they can do gymnastics feats and then strangle their enemies without breaking rhythm. That takes not just natural talent but an insane level of dedication and practice. Other Shinobi use the Shunshin casually but for Shisui to be so good that THAT is his namesake and not his genjutsu... Can we just think about that for a second?
Also the fact that Shisui is prodigious enough (not even getting into my AU timeline of graduation and family relations etc) to be a role model and tutor for Itachi and, by general fandom consensus, died when he was 14-16. That means Shisui was ANBU possibly before he was 14, since he was a team leader and arguably then a Captain. This means Shisui must've been even younger when he reached Jounin, younger again when he was Chuunin, graduated possibly as early as Kakashi and Itachi did... And it's just never talked about??? Canon and fanon are OBSESSED with complicated OP characters; to draw the comparison again, Kakashi is known for his borrowed Sharingan and his Thousand Jutsu whilst Itachi is the Genius of the Uchiha with nightmare flame eyes and the ability to slaughter his entire Clan without interruption or injury (numbers possibly between several hundred and several thousand).... But Shisui is faster than Itachi and Kakashi, he's just as smart, he's more sociable and hopeful than either of them- and it genuinely flabbergasts me that he's not more hyped for it. Shisui was killed off by Kishi because he knew he Done Fucked Up with making such an amazing character and inserting him into pre-canon drama without accounting for how insane his influence and legacy would've been.
Shisui is so slept on it HURTS
Quickly scrolling back up to the ask because I've forgotten what the original question was my own headcanons for Shisui
- graduated at 6 (Kakashi is at 4, Itachi at 5) and activated his Sharingan when his parents died shortly afterwards
- Mangekyou at 8 when he was fast enough to save himself but not his Genin team
- Inoichi takes Shisui on as an apprentice. Inoichi doesn't have time for a genin team but there's an eight year old with the most psychologically and ethically fucked up Dojutsu shivering in a hospital bed and Konoha cannot afford for him to go rogue or burn out before they can benefit from him. Cue fatherhood.
- Shisui has extremely good chakra control. His genjutsu, not even Kotoamatsukami, is so powerful and yet finely woven than even Ao's stolen Byakugan couldn't see it coming OR face it directly. Shunshin seems to be using chakra to augment movement and increase speed (furiously side eyes Tsunade's strength) so Shisui's ability to be so fucking fast (he's the fastest ever Shinobi to me, Tobirama and Minato don't count because they 'jump' with seals whereas Shisui is Actually Running) that doesn't rip his limbs off or fuck him up internally must mean that his chakra use is just... Perfect. Watch me want to write a Healer!Shisui fic omfg
- he's Kagami's grandson, Mikoto's nephew
- summoning chakra has life altering effects on human chakra (Inuzuka ninken across generations as exhibit A) so Shisui and Itachi have some very subtle (and more obvious) bird instincts (including that amazing ability to retrace their steps without checking the stars, maps, a compass, or knowing the exact directions)
- Kagami was ambassador to Uzushio. I love this one because it lays a great foundation for Mikoto and Kushina's friendship and it also adds depth to Shisui's Feelings about Konoha and loyalty
- Shisui is in an ANBU Squad (usually Squad Two) with Kakashi, Genma, Raidou, and Tenzo... Why? Because I love them, your Honour. Also it's a great range of abilities, personalities and they all have different reasons to be feral loyal to each other and Konoha
- Shisui is amazing with kids. He is simultaneously the meme of carrying the kid by their leg (Sasuke) and cuddling them in a blanket (Itachi). Look at how amazing he was with Shy Baby Itachi? Shisui is the very very sensitive and gentle and warming ambivert friend who adopts every single introvert he meets (Tenzo, Itachi, Kakashi) and is in turn adopted by extroverts (Genma, Ino, Gai)
- his ANBU alias is Monkey. I picked this animal because I didn't want anything too obscure or obvious (Crow, Raven, Cat, etc) and then I liked the idea that he can wiggle out of everything, it's a little bit wise and a little bit humourous and a little bit Uncanny Valley. Now, I can't not make Shisui into ANBU Monkey 😅
- He's too good for this world. Wait that's not a headcanon that's just fact 🤭
Thanks for playing, this was really fun!!

one of my fav fun facts about alfred is that he's described to be a bit of a film buff. do you think that only refers to his own hollywood movies or is he an appreciator of foreign indie films too? your hetalia headcanons/drabbles are so interesting btw, i love them!
thank you anon! when it comes to this, i generally lean towards alfred embodying the more well-travelled and cosmopolitan side of america, so i'd say he definitely appreciates all sorts of foreign films too. he might enjoy some hollywood cliches a little too much lol, but there's hollywood has long been influenced by foreign cinema to begin with.
this is one thing i see him and kiku often doing together, actually. specifically because japanese cinema and culture has a pretty significant influence on hollywood. for example; akira kurosawa's postwar films, like the incredibly influential Seven Samurai— which is what the 60s western Magnificent Seven is directly based off. as well as his The Hidden Fortress, which Lucas took inspiration from for the original Star Wars. and there's also ofc godzilla, the mecha genre, and other films like the Matrix and the original Ghost in the Shell manga.
i also see Alfred being fluent in spanish (especially due to the influence of his neighbours) and german by the 1900s, so that also made it much easier for him to appreciate a lot of older foreign films in their original languages without any dubbing. so the 1920s german film Metropolis and its dystopian sci fi themes—he's watched that too, besides english-language british films. and since alfred generally enjoys action films, he's watched many hong kong martial arts films and crime thrillers too. there's also the fact that alfred himself can be rather a showman who revels in the flair of a performance, so he finds the dynamic dance choreography of bollywood films appealing too. there're many more films he enjoys, and i think he finds it interesting to watch foreign films both for their aesthetics and different cultural perspectives, the same way he enjoys reading widely and meeting new people. so yes, i'd see alfred as that film buff who enjoys world cinema.

Some other notes on ikuhara's titles
Shoujo Kakumei Utena, aka Revolutionary Girl Utena that we all love. Pretty straight forward translation, right? Well, yes and no. Despite it being almost universally accepted, ikuhara himself advocates for translation Girls' Revolution Utena, which encompasses the series very well.
Mawaru Penguindrum. I talk more about its title here, but I can imagine the translator scratching their head when seeing it. What the hell is a penguindrum? Is it spinning? Why is it written like that? My personal favorite variant is Russian Крутится-вращается пингвиний барабан. It's got rhythm, but it's so ridiculously long.
Yurikuma Arashi is probably the wildest sounding one when translated. The storm of bears and lilies? What's that supposed to mean? Well, it's a reference to Yoshimura Akira's "Bear Storm" (kuma arashi), a novel based on the Sankebetsu Bear Incident, in which brown bears terrorized Japanese villagers. Which makes me think yuri here doesn't literally mean flower, but rather it's a mod to the yuri genre. So, in the end, we have something like "lesbian bear storm"
Sarazanmai. Ah. The one people gave up translating. And for a good reason! 😁 First of all, sarazanmai itself, similar to penguindrum, is some kind of spell that the boys use during their kappa shenanigans. The title is originally written in hiragana, but Sara 皿 means a plate, and zanmai 三昧 means a state of concentration on or being absorbed in something. So, imagine the boys screaming Concentrating on the plates! When the reach the climax of the song lol. Or, it can also be written 皿三枚 aka three plates. Simple and cute :)

yes tell us about eihiyo!!!!!
folds hands okay so . to me it's very fundamental that you keep in mind eichi and hiyori were childhood friends and they've known each other likely longer than keito has known eichi and i DON'T KNOW WHY THEY KEEP FUCKING DISREGARDING IT I HATE AKIRA anyway . i'll put it under the cut i know i am very rambly
edit; i hit the image limit i am not normal
so starting with checkmate which is translated by dreamwidth user shivalries but i have a screenshot of the wiki here no i don't how the fuck am i supposed to find it it's so far back in my gallery oh my god OH I GOT IT
Tumblr media
it's like never stated when eihiyo meets but it's Obviously fairly young because of the way they refer to each other . i have insane bias so i put them as like toddler friends but realistically they may have met shortly before nagisa came into the tomoe family, since it's stated that the foundation is falling as of ! era meaning they were far more likely to have met years prior in its peak .
SO . let's look at what eichi says here . he says he's similar to hiyori by admitting it would be like looking at himself, and this is a sentiment they both repeat in other stories; i haven't read altered but i am so sure it probably echoes this . he also knows hiyori well enough to understand that they're not particularly amicable, nor is hiyori someone who's easy to deal with when he doesn't fancy it . additionally, in pretty mission, we get these interactions;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's very likely the two of them attended social gatherings for high society families, which would also perhaps be where hiyori could vaguely know the himemiya family from aside from word of mouth ( it's established in a hiyori side story from ! that he has met tori before, but i believe tori says it was during his time with exfine ? )
we also get to see, in altered, that eichi is more than capable of courtesy and awareness of hiyori's false behaviors . he also says here that they've known each other a long time 🧐 fascinating . okay then . so they mutually understand one another and can't lie to each other ? sounds like something people in a FORMER RELATIONSHIP WOULD SAY !!!!!!! congrats to eichi for being the most divorced nineteen year old in the world
Tumblr media
moving on . sorry for the poor image quality i combined two screenshots so i could add the altered one since i NEED people to see it
Tumblr media
moving onto summer live which ummm was done by kotofucius ( a long inactive tl :( hope they're okay ) right here, but i have screenshots from the wiki saved so it's what you get lol ❤️ anyway hiyori states it's been a long time since he's seen eichi, and we know this is after the war so we can assume hiyori and eichi more or less fell out after hiyori transferred to reimei . tsumugi states ( in a story i can't recall ? may be ss ) that he keeps in contact with hiyori and nagisa, and that ibara ( <- i believe he says "that kid" or something though, referring to nagisa's roommate and partner, who is ibara ) has helped nagisa grow as a person etc etc so Why did hiyori ghost eichi 🧐 but it's easy enough to understand .
i accidentally grabbed so many screenshots but wonder game gives us a decent glimpse into their dynamic too .
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i put them all side by side on mobile to save space a little but the gist of this is that eichi is . very .. aware ? of hiyori's personality and mannerisms, and feels comfortable calling them out . hiyori is someone who canonically wears a facade so imo it's very interesting that eichi calls his bluffs, points out his flaws, etc without much thought at all . they're obviously close and well acquainted no matter how much they appear to hate one another .
we see it later in summer live too, he advises hokuto almost nonstop for the trickstar/eve meeting because he understands hiyori and grasps quite well that he's difficult when he wants to be, which is exactly how he ends up acting with hokuto; really the only reason they get through that meeting is eichi's guidance and hokuto getting pissed off enough to get hiyori to respect him . a tiny bit .
Tumblr media
also, in wonder game again, we get to see the fact that hiyori is eventually dedicated to eichi's cause despite hating him . in my opinion this is hiyori deflecting; i believe they're actually much closer than either of them admit in ! era stories ( which is Basically all i've referenced so far ), and their !! banter is definitely meant to be read as far more playful
Tumblr media
hiyori acknowledges eichi's dedication and seems to admire it, and also shut up look at what hiyori says in summer live you will not believe this shit
Tumblr media
?!?!?!?!?! BUT YOU PERFORM WITH EICHI AND WORK ALONGSIDE HIM . YOU DON'T HATE HIM YOU BIG BITCH BABY JESUS CHRIST !!!! ohhh my god they're so insufferable okay . i'm running out of intelligent thought but i hope you now understand that eichi and hiyori do definitely respect one another, they work well together, i believe hiyori had a crush on eichi as a child and they ( like reichi ) have insane divorced energy . their fights in !! are much more tame compared to them outright saying "i hate you" HAHAH . going back to that second pretty mission screenshot ( as i said at the top, i hit the image limit ), you can definitely read it in a way more amicable teasing kind of way . i would also like to give a shoutout to this white brim moment where hiyori smacks eichi for pretending to die and traumatizing tori . real exes behavior idk personally i wouldn't assault people i wasn't close with HAHAH i also want to mention *this* white brim moment where eichi says that hiyori has been a maid, presumably worn a maid dress also ( for him ?!?!? ) before . it's probably a reference to them playing as children but i am losing my goddamn mind at the idea of like 15/16 year olds eihiyo fucking around and making a bet which ends with hiyori serving eichi .
okay i need to shut up this has been so much please read white brim ( i haven't even read it in full ) and wonder game THANK YOU FOR LISTENING PLEASE SEE MY VISION I SPENT AN HOUR TYPING ALL OF THIS AND GATHERING SCREENSHOTS

LWA: I'm circling back to the problem of trying to somehow identify Crowley's Angel-identity from extant Biblical precedents, and some posts from yesterday about novels that have inspired or will inspire aspects of S1 and S2--TALE OF TWO CITIES, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, and THE CROW ROAD--have accidentally highlighted what's bothering me about this (even though I fell into it myself!).
There are so many ways that novelists, filmmakers, etc. can rework their literary antecedents, and assuming that we can go back to the Biblical (or Miltonic, Dantean, etc.) source to decode what Gaiman is doing rests on assumptions about how Gaiman--and Pratchett and Finnemore--are engaging with other texts. That /is/ something you can do with, for example, Akira Kurosawa's Shakespeare films (THRONE OF BLOOD/MACBETH, THE BAD SLEEP WELL/HAMLET, RAN/KING LEAR), where the films are extensively in conversation with Shakespeare, fundamentally share Shakespeare's plots, inhabit the same tragic mode, and have characters who can be mapped directly onto Shakespeare's. And yet the films /aren't/ Shakespeare, but Shakespeare reinterpreted through Japanese cinematic and theatrical genres (jidaigeki, Noh), cultural and historical referents, and twentieth-century preoccupations. They often signal differences through inversion--the gender-flipped characters in RAN, the silent protagonist in THE BAD SLEEP WELL--and they experiment by pulling threads. How would we reinterpret KING LEAR if Lear had a backstory? What happens if you pull a major character out of HAMLET?
But this is not how GOOD OMENS--the novel, S1, or S2--works with its own antecedents. Instead, it invokes antecedents to fracture them and then shoot off in its own directions; they appear in the text or series to establish expectations that are then abruptly undercut. You can't do an extended reading of GO's "conversation" with THE OMEN, because it isn't having one (in S1, the major points of contact are done with in ep1). Instead, we have THE OMEN banging up against the JUST WILLIAM series, THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS, John Le Carre, the Bible...The genres and modes deliberately don't shake hands. Characters may or may not be parallels, but they are at best partly so and the analogies soon break down. In the series, yes, A TALE OF TWO CITIES inspires the appearance-swap at the end of S1, but it is so wildly different that it doesn't help the reader interpret what GO is doing. (Among other things, Sydney Carton /actually/ dies--obviously!--and Charles Darnay doesn't, meaning that it's a true self-sacrifice; Carton's underlying motivations are different; Darnay is upset by the proposal and effectively forced into it by being knocked unconscious; etc.) It's less a conversation and more a starting-point for play.
Similarly, S2 invokes and plays with PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, but it /isn't/ PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. (This time, PRIDE & PREJUDICE bangs up against Richard Curtis films, the cozy mystery genre, the Hollywood Biblical epic...) If anything, Aziraphale's ball serves as a metafictional warning to /not/ try to force an interpretation of events through P&P's lens. (It's also a bad misreading on Aziraphale's part, since Jane and Bingley fall for each other at the ball, but the protagonists exit it disliking each other!) Aziraphale and Crowley absolutely occupy aspects of Darcy's and Lizzie's roles, including the "both right/both wrong" problem and the relationship meddling (which is the opposite of Darcy's strategy with Bingley), but the series is far more invested in miscommunication as a problem than the novel is. The plots don't track and character parallels break down pretty quickly. It's impossible to maintain a good analogical "fit" between Heaven vs. Hell and wealthy vs. relatively-impoverished gentry (among other things, pursuing the analogy would leave us with Crowley eventually deciding to return to Heaven, which, no). Aziraphale and Crowley are nowhere near the same emotional space that Darcy and Lizzie are during the proposal scene, and while Darcy has not adequately communicated his intentions to Lizzie in the lead-up to his first proposal, the problem /during/ the proposal is that he's being a jerk and she has every right to be aggravated with him, not that they're mutually misunderstanding each other. The stakes, narrative contexts, and mental hang-ups are different. Etc. Presumably Gaiman will invoke and then disrupt THE CROW ROAD in the same way.
So, again, with the Bible. We can't use the Bible to predict anything that will happen in the GO universe because we have no way of knowing what GO will declare to be /wrong/ about the Biblical record. In S1, we discover that it's a Principality guarding the Eastern Gate, and that there's a minor matter of a missing sword; we also find out that the Flood is local and that Crowley felt that Jesus just needed a bit of a vacation break. (If you've read the novel, you also know that Aziraphale is dismissive of Revelation, thanks to John's addiction to shrooms.) In S2, we have the Job minisode, and it would take a really, really long time to break down just how far that minisode departs from the Book of Job (and this ask is already long enough!). The point, as Crowley might say, is that we approach the series with expectations set by the Bible, but then we discover that the series never takes the Biblical narrative as set. It's unpredictable (as Crowley also says).
evening (morning technically, currently at 0050hrs and will probably be done around 0300) LWA, hope you're good!!!✨
this is obviously far more eloquent, nuanced, and empirically evidenced than i could have ever put it, but im going to view this as going some way to being validation for the thought processes on a couple of theories/speculations that have been floating around in the wake of s2. meant kindly, i think the allegorical element of GO can sometimes misconstrued, and fans can sometimes get so caught up in what they believe is the only true inspiration for the story, and miss that it is a work of fiction. it is literally made-up. it stands to reason therefore, and has been demonstrated time and time again, as having been inspired at its core from lots of different places.
there is representation of so many things in GO, and it's truly one of the aspects that i love most about it. it is not representative of any one set rhetoric. specifically about your example of who crowley was before the fall; this caused so much underlying discourse that i fully appreciated and considered perfectly valid. crowley was described by neil as a jewish-coded character insomuch that he asked questions (tbh by extension from that the whole story could be described similarly?), and then, as ive since learned, a lot of the angelic names mentioned are hebrew in origin. since having a plethora of asks flood me contradicting that crowley cannot or should not have been an angel of christian origin, or otherwise, ive educated myself more. but im not going to go back on what i myself have speculated on because it is a story, and it can take inspiration, and rework that inspiration in kind, from anywhere. that, i think, sometimes gets missed. ive usually speculated and analysed based on where the narrative, to my mind, has been heading, taking cues from what we've seen so far, and then researched off the back of it what might fit or would support it - not the other way around.
religious representation is important. speaking personally- being someone non-religious and raised largely secular (as said many times) i will never fully understand what it means to have that representation portrayed in popular media... because how on earth could i begin to? but i would like to say i understand emotion and how people think, and i can understand why representation is important to people. that is valid, in every respect. but GO is not a reworked version of any one biblical text, as you said. inspirations not shaking hands, but flitting around each other in a dance. it pokes holes at, reimagines, and validates as well as invalidates elements of multiple religious texts and teachings (one of my favourite and imo funniest book lines was the mushrooms recollection, was gutted it didn't make the show in full!)
again, this is part of why i love it - because whilst these different allegories provide the backdrop to the story, it is not the story. the reason why the story is so important to me is because it is an examination of the human condition through the eyes of beings that are not human. the story could be told from the pov of a human-form pot plant and reach the same kind of conclusions, but the religious inspiration gives the story more consistent context, dichotomy and insight, more depth and philosophy. and it's much more entertaining. but yes - let the narrative be inspired by anything; bits and pieces from this, pinches and dashes from that... it creates a story that is so arguably unique that way, frames its own questions and problems, and remains to true to being a work of fiction - set to inspire and challenge in kind on to other present and future works - and so on and on the cog turns - isn't that the point?
GO is not the only religious-inspired work that ive loved for these reasons; favourite book (no offence to anyone by daring to type this sentence as a GO blog; it's sentimental to me) is andrew davidson's the gargoyle. it very scrupulously follows, at times, elements of dante's divine comedy and makes overt references to it given its a key part of the story, but it's manifestly allegorical too. but the best part of the story is how it interprets religion's often tumultuous relationship with mental health, love being flawed and discriminatory, and the concept of salvation. again, religious imagery and inspiration as the backdrop, human condition being the narrative.
i haven't really remarked on any else that you've mentioned, LWA, which is par for the course with me, so going to speedrun slightly.
P&P: when i watched s2 i must admit i was almost surprised that this work had so much weight, because i felt it had more relation to other austen works (emma and persuasion particularly) but then i remembered that was the Whole Point
Kurosawa: will admit that i haven't seen these but based on what im assuming is your recommendation i will duly add to the watchlist (seen Kagemusha, but that's it for my foray into his works!)
Le Carré: ah, im so glad you said this! when ive been thinking idly about the corruption in heaven and the risk in looking back on it with the metaphorical rose-tinted glasses, this is the same feeling as when i read his work - bits from TTSS, and constant gardener, but TLGW especially in my mind... not sure if you were referring to these works in particular and in this context, but huge fan of Le Carré and happy to see it mentioned!!!
richard curtis: i... yeah. this was a revelation for me. enough said.
ultimately im so excited about the unpredictable; i love speculating, and whilst it's fun to have gotten something right (s2 was not a good track record for me, the only things i got that were even a smidgeon near the truth were half-arsed shitposts and if that doesn't humble a girl, nothing will), i want to be taken aback by where the narrative has gone, the dilemmas that have been raised, dialogue and exposition choices... i want to be wrong, because that's infinitely more fun!
(0220 - not bad)✨

Saga: Rivals - 10
Writer: Akira
Season: Winter
Characters: Chiaki, Eichi
Proofreading: moricchiichan (JP) & Peace (ENG)
Translation: kotofucius
Chiaki: Don’t call it kiddie stuff! It’s entirely different for something to be “for kids” and “kiddie stuff,” Tenshouin!
Tumblr media
[Read on my blog for the best viewing experience with Oi~ssu ♪]
Location: Classroom 3-A
Time: Same day, during breaktime
Chiaki: …Lilith?
Eichi: Yes. That’s the name of the most formidable opponent you’ll face in Project-Saga — The temporary unit led by the legendary idol Hidaka Seiya.
Chiaki: Hmm. I’ve heard of such a group being formed, but I had no idea about the specifics, since they’re keeping details hidden.
Lilith… It’s a pretty cute name, isn’t it?
Eichi: Fufu. Since you're surprisingly well-read, Chiaki, you should know the name.
The Bible depicts Adam as the first man created… and Lilith was the name of his first wife.
She isn’t very widely known, though. Generally, people think of Eve the first thing when you say “Adam’s wife.”
Maybe she pops up in comics and novels, but she isn’t a very popular character in the original lore. Similar to how Berserkers in Norse mythology are treated.
Chiaki: Hold on — even if you make that comparison, I’m not knowledgeable enough about that to know whether to agree or not.
Eichi: Well, your specialty is tokusatsu, after all. There is a limit to how much information the human brain can hold, so it’s inevitable that we’d pick out which ones to absorb and ignore.
I was born frail and constantly at the brink of death… so I had many opportunities to ponder about gods and the afterlife. That’s all.
And little Keito happened to be a defiant, angsty child. I didn’t even have to ask him to lecture me on each little thing he learned about faith; Buddhism or otherwise.
Chiaki: Wow, Hasumi? I didn’t expect that.
Tumblr media
Eichi: Is that so?
Well, we don’t look like close friends now, so it may be hard to believe that he and I had such adorable moments together as children.
We even made a childish promise.
He would ask how I want my burial to be, and tell me to choose my own heaven with childish arrogance.
Chiaki: Yeah, I can tell at a glance that you’re tied with a strong bond.
But that isn’t what I was referring to… Hasumi looks like a straight-laced guy to me, so I didn’t expect him to study up on religions other than what his temple supports.
Eichi: Fufu. He's an unexpectedly fancy-free type of boy… I guess that isn’t a pleasant way to put it. He’s so broad-minded that he can accept any ideas…
And before he realized it, he’d find himself being bogged down by unnecessary baggage… He’d have absorbed too many things and become unable to take a step from their weight.
Quite a monk, to be so easily distracted by worldly passions. Well, better than being a fanatic who tolerates no objections towards their belief, I guess.
Anyway, who cares about Keito. We’ve gotten off-topic…
In various mythologies, characters who oppose the faith or abuse the teachings of the almighty gods are often shunned.
The Norse Berserkers I mentioned were warriors who offered prayers to their god and were blessed with his protection in return, yet slayed friends and foes like beasts without wisdom.
They’re considered pests; snakes in the grass.
Lilith was the same; her very presence could shake the religion at its foundation. Actually, for those who wanted to use the power of faith as a tool, she was almost an eyesore.
Eve was created from Adam’s rib and a lump of earth.
This establishes Adam’s superiority as Eve’s creator… and at the same time, allows the assertion that Eve was not directly brought into being by the Almighty God.
Thus proving that men are superior to women — This is more convenient for certain authorities.
That’s why it’s unacceptable for there to be a woman equal and akin to Adam.
It may sound old-fashioned and ridiculous for us living in these modern times.
But such manipulations had to be made to make a shield out of the colossal power of religion.
Although based on the time she started to appear in texts, Lilith was perhaps also conceived, or syncretized, for similar ends.
Chiaki: Ah… I think Lilith defied God, fell to Hell, and became the boss of demons?
Eichi: Exactly. She didn’t become the mother of mankind — but the mother of the evil demons that lead mankind astray and kill them.
That’s how Eve and Lilith were degraded and twisted to reinforce and legitimate male supremacy.
Lilith is especially portrayed as a repulsive presence that you’re taught not to be like; you’re finished if you ever turn out like her.
A stock villain, just like Norse Berserkers.
That’s why she’s unpopular in myths, because she’s an outcast people would put you down for liking.
I think it’s a poor move to use the name of such an offensive character for Hidaka Seiya’s Project-Saga unit.
There’s too much of a bad reputation attached to it.
Chiaki: Hmm… This goes for Berserkers too, but villains and monsters of her type are popular in manga and anime, right?
In modern Japan, where the influence of religion isn’t so strong, I think those media are more reliable as a way to gauge popularity.
Eichi: True. I wonder what is it with our people’s attraction to characters who ooze an air of vile or mystery…
Evil is bound to be defeated — So is it because our countrymen like to root for the loser?
Chiaki: No, I’m sure not everybody loves evil.
The most popular figure in tokusatsu is still the hero… the one who allies with justice. It’s the sort of story these shows still portray to this day, after all.
Eichi: Well, I guess. It’s honestly hard to believe there are adults who would believe, accept, and applaud such kiddie stuff.
Tumblr media
Chiaki: Don’t call it kiddie stuff! It’s entirely different for something to be “for kids” and “kiddie stuff,” Tenshouin!
Eichi: Well… I think that argument can go on for a while, so I’ll evade it. It isn’t our main topic.
Hmm, I wonder if there really is no deep meaning…
Do they just want to borrow Adam, Eve, and Eden’s power — Because these units have retained their popularity despite CosPro’s failure in SS?
That’s why they chose a name related to Adam — Lilith… This is the more natural conclusion, but something still bothers me.
Why didn’t they choose a more agreeable name, then? God, angels, saints, miracles…
They didn’t have to choose the name of an offensive monster, did they?

Bless. I have a little more p5 g/t for you. Akeshuake focused because i LOVE THEM.
These are all taken from my little idea folder thing, so some of them have dialogue/are story based and some of them are just little concepts.
(P5R SPOILERS)
⭑ “Here, you’ll have to stay in my pocket today.”
“What…?” Akechi growls. “I am not doing that.”
“You dont have a choice, Akechi. You have to come to school with me somehow.” Akira huffs.
“B-but can’t I just… can’t you hold me, or something?” The brunette adjusts his clothes anxiously, but he still glares tiny daggers into the giant.
Akira shakes his head. “I cant risk you getting crushed, or someone seeing you. I’m sorry. Its just for today, until we can get the group together to fix this.”
Akechi hesitantly agrees and Akira helps him climb into his chest pocket. All day at school, Akechi can feel the boom of Akira’s voice, the way his hand clutches his pocket every so often to ensure Akechi is still there. He feels so protected, and he’s never felt that way before. Eventually, in the middle of class, Akira opens his pocket to see a tiny, tiny akechi asleep in there. He audibly awwwwes until Morgana and Ann ask him what he’s looking at.
⭑ Akira being referred to as a gentle giant is the best thing ever like yes! He is a pretty giant boy! Giant Akira gazing downwards, his big eyelashes, his powerful, strong fingers that could crush with little effort, but his gentle touch. His feet crashing into the ground and sending people stumbling, but so incredibly careful not to crush anyone accidentally. Gentle boy with his tiny leblanc family and his tiny thieves and his tiny rival
⭑ Akechi picking up tiny Joker and mumbling “Now, what am I going to do with you…?” Is SO GOOD
⭑ Akechi chooses against killing akira au. He realizes Akira can be a great help in taking down Shido. However, he needs to get him out of that damn interrogation room. Years of work on a certain device has given him a solution.
“Hello. Im here to rescue you.”
“Akechi…” akira breathes, dumbfounded. “You came for me.”
“There’s no time for your brainless sentimentality. Sorry for this.” He aims a strange looking ray gun at him, before-
Akira blinks, groaning. “What…” he tries to gather his bearings, before realizing that a giant, gloved hand is coming towards him. He screams in horror as he realizes that he’s been shrunk!! The hand wraps around him tightly, the leather rubbing against his skin as he kicks his legs in a panic.
“Quiet, you little thief! You’re going to get us found out!” Akechi puts a finger to Akira’s mouth. Akira weakly nods in pure fear, before Akechi drops him in his pocket.
⭑ On that note. Goro with a shrinking function in his ray gun!
⭑ Giant goro petting akira absently without even realizing he’s doing it, or, pretending so. Telling him he’s a cute little thing. Akira leaning into his gentle, but enormous touch. His hand batting goro’s enormous finger away when he starts poking and prodding him teasingly. Akira sleeping in goro’s glove. <3
⭑ Tiny bullets ricocheting off of Goro’s black mask gauntlet because he dropped his enormous hand in front of Joker and Violet to protect them from shadows in Maruki’s palace ^-^
⭑ Staying on the Maruki thought, Akechi showing up to Leblanc in that first little bit of the third semester, except he’s absolutely enormous, to the point where he can barely fit a foot into the tiny alleys of Yongen-Jaya. He gets Akira’s attention by knocking on his window with the back of his knuckle. Akira practically leaping out of his window to see him, and Akechi picks him out of his window by the back of his shirt. Blah blah Maruki made him big so Akira would be obsessed and too happy to reject the false reality blah blah I would be happy with a giant akechi too
⭑ Satanael Joker with clouds circling his horns because he’s just so big. Scooping all of the thieves into one hand because they’re so small and pressing them ever so gently to his chest in a hug. He laughs softly and it feels like an earthquake to everybody around him. Shooting Yaldabaoth in the head himself YAY!
i have majorrr anxiety so This is so scary but i feel so validated in my ideas thank you all mwah mwah <33

A ship tier list I didn't bother finish visualizing and some of them will be discussed in depth because I want to.
Tumblr media
Changed My Life refers to the ships with the most impact on me emotionally. Like make me cry because the writing's just that good. DabiHawks isn't even canon but I need to say that a lot of its authors are the best. 😌 The reason they're at the top is for their range of interpretations. While I have a preference for Childhood Friends AUs, the best include Enemies to Lovers and Post-war Healing fics.
InuKag is a staple of the romance anime genre. They're just the right blend of sweet and angsty. They have a dynamic consisting of Hero/Damsel in Distress, Battle Couple, Team Dad/Mom, Jaded/Sunshine. Any other dynamic would become OOC or even toxic. Like say if Inuyasha or Kagome were more verbally and physically aggressive. (Yes this is shade towards the anime's version of Kagome.)
Now Band-do/Jin-joo is the most grounded and realistic of the three. InuKag and DabiHawks are fantastic and dramatic but the writing for these two is too good to ignore.
CUTE!!! is for the ships that make me go 😍🥰 but not much else. Sure, Soukoku, Jaspvid, Bubbline, Stolitz, Fizzie and Blizz (Blitzo x Fizz) have that Childhood Friends or We Have History appeal, I already see more of that in DabiHawks writing and if only it was canon, I'd ascend. 😭
Okay is just the ships I think are alright but I'm not absolutely swooning over, looking art and fics for. I did briefly for Marin/Gojou and Urabe/Akira but that was it.
Hm, Why? is just my automatic shipper brain activating when I was in those fandoms. Nothing ground-breaking. Some might even say, questionable. 🤷‍♀
Fix It and I'll Consider are those ships that I want to enjoy because I know it was ruining aspects of the films. Thankfully, Blizz handles the We Were Tricked and Now We Hate Each Other trope than InuKik because there's no doubt that those two were super close but still had a basis of why they'd think to resent each other. Inuyasha and Kikyou are shallow and so "tragic" I couldn't take them seriously. Kikyou's character and her relationship with Inuyasha also have this unfortunate problem of tell, don't show where the show tells us they have a deep bond then goes to show how lonely and desperate they were and how okay Kikyou was with putting Inuyasha in danger (even post-resurrection).
Haruki/Sakura during the first half of the movie wasn't cute. I didn't find her endearing. She'd be weird and creepy if she was a guy, I don't care if she basically told the guy she was gonna die in a few years. My suspension of disbelief isn't that big for a film grounded in reality.
I'll be talking about Go Back Couple and its ships in another post. ^^
