yoogeon...jiyeon spent almost the entirety of the walk from her house repeating the name over and over again in her head. han yoogeon. well, they certainly shared the same surname. having to keep track of so many names and faces in the town was already a lot. to not be able to put a face to the name on a day-to-day basis only made it harder to remember who he was and when they might have met. but at the end of the day, it didn’t really matter to her if she managed to remember him or not, because her grandma had no reason to lie about their relationship.
deep down, jiyeon knew it was probably just the bitterness of her past that kept her from remembering. she’d spent all this time pretending that she had no other family outside of her grandma, that now that she was coming face-to-face with one, jiyeon was being forced to face reality. once arriving to the address provided by her grandma, she knocked on the door with a reluctant sigh.
“hello. i am han jiyeon. i come bearing pie, baked by my grandma. she told me to check up on you since we’re cousins, or something.” her words were stiff as she’d basically just regurgitated words fed to her by her grandma (albeit altering the sentences ever so slightly). “please, take it. it’s chilly out here.”

can you see the light ↪︎— @yoogeonyh
like most things in yunhwa, kangdae’s routine on the farm remained the same. wake up, take inventory, make sure the sprinklers were working, keep the farm hands on check. there were hardly ever days where kangdae was surprised. but that wasn’t a bad thing, or boring. he enjoyed the little things like sun beating on his back, the way his body ached after a good harvest, the way soju tasted on a cool night.
he didn’t need surprises. no thank you.
kangdae didn’t expect today to be any different. it’s only when he’s tending to dried persimmons hanging from his porch that he notices a figure approaching. he tilts his head, he wasn’t expecting a visitor, not today at least. quickly, he plucks a persimmon from the string before walking over to greet the man.
“ hello, welcome to shin f-” a flash of recognition, “ yoogeon-ssi?”

continued from 🏖️ // @yoogeonyh
with her strawberry lemonade paid for, she finally stepped away from the counter. she did not need to look to know someone was watching her. she could feel their eyes on the back of her neck. when she did step aside, taking her thin wallet with her, she confronted him. his demeanor was not what she had expected. her eyes widened. she turned around, then back to him. “oh.” she fully stepped out of his way and off to the side. “sorry, guy, i totally thought. . . you know what? you know how the guys around this place are- i just thought you were another gross weirdo or something.” then, with sudden strength, she put her hands on her hips and held her nose in the air. “but, uh, yeah, like, i think if, well i don’t always think someone is watching me, but if someone is staring at me i have a right to think they’re watching me? i think that’s, like, pretty normal, guy.”

any interesting visitors you think we should keep our eyes on?
hello, darling, if you want to know about the townspeople then you have come to the right person. i notice everyone that walks in and out of yunhwa as there’s always a good story there somewhere just waiting to be unraveled. now, as for our latest batch of visitors... i’ve noticed that they seem keen to avoid the public eye. i’m still waiting for someone to do something that catches my attention, but it looks to me like everyone is too afraid to make a move. i have, however, been taking notice of a few potentials that could actually make this town less boring. call it interest, but i’d love to see what these few individuals will get up to the longer they’re in town. let’s hope i didn’t judge wrong and they don’t disappoint me. the arrival of a young ceo of a tech company ( @yoogeonyh ) certainly piqued my interest. for what is a successful man doing in a small town as this one? clearly it’s not to settle into a quiet place away from the bustling city life, i’m sure he has vacation homes with better accommodations than the inn just for that purpose. at the moment he seems to be keeping to himself and avoiding the townspeople as much as possible, but in a small town like this, nothing stays hidden forever. maybe it’s time to visit grandpa, don’t you think? there is also the arrival of a rambunctious young woman ( @yhraewon ) who is quite literally trying to add spice to the town with her shop designs and window displays. though this is not quite what i am interested in. it is the fact that she, like me, understands that a small town is where all the drama is at. for both of our sakes, dear, i hope that you find that “tea” that you’re looking for. be careful as well, to hide your own “tea,” surely we wouldn’t want your family finding out where you are, now would we? ciao, my little birds.
