#YOUREIT: KATY ANN GILMORE | VANS CUSTOMS 

Inspired by mathematics, architecture, perspective, and illusion of space, Los Angeles based artist Katy Ann Gilmore combines her love of art and math in this amazing Vans Customs! We chatted with Katy about her design, her favorite silhouette, and her favorite part about the Vans Custom Shop process!

Tell us a little bit about the design you used for your Vans Customs!I used part of my favorite piece from my recent show at DENK. I thought it would be a fun way to commemorate that piece, and the catenary swoops seemed to work well with the shape of the shoe. Also, that piece was bright blue, so I thought that would make for a cool look.

What are your favorite Vans silhouettes?I love the Vans Old Skool. I find them super versatile and comfortable.

What have been some of your favorite reactions you’ve gotten on social media or by friends?It's fun to see friends recognize the piece of art I used for the design. And in general it's been cool to share that ANYONE can design their own shoe.

What was your favorite part about the vans custom shop process?It was really straight-forward, and easy to customize! It's simple to edit and move your image around to get it in the perfect spot. And, what you see is what you get! The image of the final shoe design was true to real-life. At some point in life, I'd love to design the comprehensive look of an entire shoe, so it was fun to have a small hand in the process by customizing the vamp on these Vans.
