💙 【那夏天的我們】 a stroke of fate

G, 59k, Wangxian
Summary: After an unhappy confrontation with his agency, renowned guqin player and accomplished composer Hanguang-jun makes a sudden retreat from the public eye.
Lan Wangji moves to a tiny village barely on the maps for the summer. He's there for seclusion, to cool down, to reflect on his behaviour - but he finds so much more than he even knew he was looking for.
That summer - cicada song. bamboo groves. fresh peaches. ink smudges and guqin strings. Our summer.

Kay's comments: Big love to this story! If you've ever enjoyed watching a li ziqi video on YouTube, then this story is for you, because that's what Wei Ying does. The soft Youtube-AU everyone needs in their life tbh. In which Lan Zhan flees his busy city life where he's a famous composer and spends a summer in the countryside with Wei Ying and the Wens. It's soft, it's comforting and there's also some secrets to be discovered along the way.
Excerpt: “What’s a city slicker like you doing in the boonies?”
Lan Wangji frowns. “Are you not also someone who moved here from the city?”
He receives a surprised blink for that. Then the man laughs, and the sound is so much more vibrant outside of a screen. “I see you know who I am, huh. Are you a fan? Did you come all the way here for an autograph?”
“No,” Lan Wangji blurts out. He takes back all his previous thoughts. This man might be breathtaking to look at but he’s quite annoying once he opens his mouth. “I have seen your videos. But I am here purely for a break from my... work.”
“Right.” The man studies him with sharp eyes, but Lan Wangji just stares back stoically. He’s been looked at like he’s a puzzle, but Lan Wangji isn’t sure what the man is seeing. He’s not sure what he wants the man to see.
pov lan wangji, modern setting, modern no powers, youtube, youtuber wei wuxian, slice of life, falling in love, summer, barakamon, farmer wei wuxian, fluff, domestic fluff, developing relationship, getting together, musician lan wangji

Of all the (many, heartwrenching) animatics I've seen of mdzs, there's three that I keep coming back to that are just so... Ooh. And each of them tells a different perspective of the first seige of the burial mounds - one for each survivor. Like a little trilogy.
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one will hurt you now
Fear will be your enemy
And death its consequence
That what they once said to me
And it's starting to make sense
Don't care if he's guilty
Don't care if he's not
He's good and he's bad
And he's all that I've got
The first and last are by the same artist, which does a lot to tie them together XD. And the middle one is more cql what with the cave temple, and has a bit of a different vibe (I'm like 90% certain the music is from a Frozen musical) but it still fits and is also Really Good (there's some computer background worthy frames).
I was about to recommend a couple more animatics here but genuinely I'd be listing every one and there's so many. Search it up on youtube and cry like the rest of us.
(But if anyone knows the one where lwj hitchhikes to the burial mounds on a cart I'd muchly appreciate it ToT.)

Whoever made Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo (Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji’s actors) sing the main ost of The Untamed, which is 無羁 (wú jī)— had made the best decision in the entire decision making world.
Whoever decided to name it 無羁 (wú jī) and make it the WangXian version (from the books/donghua) of the live adaptation, and also the one that Lan Wangji canonically composed as a theme song for him and Wei Wuxian — had made the second best decision in the entire decision making world.
Whoever decided to make the official English title of 陳情令 (chén qíng lìng) as “The Untamed” which also means “unrestrained” or “無羁 (wú jī)”— had made the third best decision in the entire decision making world.
Like it was so genius? Knowing that whenever you listen to 無羁 (wú jī), it’s Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji themselves singing the song? Their theme song? And that even though they censored it, they still managed to make the song name a combination of their names (Wuxian + Wangji)? And that the literal English translation of 無羁 (wú jī) is “unrestrained” which can also mean “Untamed”?

Was in the middle of writing my part two of my WWX always wanted a family headcanon, but took a little YouTube break and found this:
So my idea:
This, but it’s WWX’s spirt. A-Yuan could be the baby, but I think it’d be way funnier if it was just some random kid to non cultivator parents and so when the parents try to find someone to help w/ their ghost problem, no one believes them that the Yiling Patriarch’s ghost is babysitting their kid, singing them lullabies, and rocking them to sleep. The parents are basically left to freak out by themselves bc no one believes them and wants to waste their time on some nobodies from the sticks that won’t bring them glory until WWX is brought back to life. THEN, WWX shows up on their doorstep, husband in tow w/ arms full of presents for the kid, and they now have to host the Yiling Patriarch and Hanguang-jun. The kid’s loving it though.

I'm suddenly wondering how Wei Wuxian would do in an actual zombie apocalypse. The undead in MDZS are specifically caused by resentful energy, which is very different from zombies caused by a virus, or something. I wonder if that would affect his ability to take control of them.
He'd absolutely figure out how to deal with it, like even if they weren't powered by resentful energy there has got to be enough there for him work with.
Can you imagine a crossover with some kind of zombie apocalypse thing, where the characters are getting ready to face down a hoard, and out of no where: Who the fuck is this guy with the flute, and how is he doing that?
