What if every time a Yuu has failed, the timeline resets and another Yuu is summoned? Additional Points/Theories

So, I was talking about this theory with @amys-curious-wonderland yesterday and they brought up some great points. 🌺💕

There’s also the theories of how twsted wonderland could be the afterlife right? So, what if, that's one of the only ways to summon the Yuus? By them “dying”? we saw that carriage-sama came ran over for both Yuuken and Yuuka, and I believe Yuuya had a similar experience. Our yuu doesn’t remember how they got there, but we remember a hand reaching out and a carriage too. all the Yuus also woke up in coffins.

then it brings us back to the twst characters, maybe they are ‘dead or close’ to it, hence everyone in twisted wonderland and Yuu is the one to essentially save them.

As Amy mentioned, twisted wonderland could be like Alice in wonderland with the parallels with reality. Maybe, by saving each OB, the boys are awaken back in their world. Like how Alice is, and both are forms of wonderland no? and it is also a form of saving them.

personally, I think that trope might be done before but, given yana’s ability to story-tell, I wouldn’t put it past her to put a spin on it.

as previously stated, maybe its all the yuus in the yuuverse helping our game!Yuu through memories/experiences.

Like yuuken won against riddle but lost against Leona -> yuuka won against Leona but lost against azul -> etc.

(and maybe yuuya was the one to go the furthest?)

but also, as @nabijay mentioned, this could also account for what Silver mentioned in the character intro, “It’s strange...I feel like I have met you somewhere before”

What if Silver is talking about all the yuus? We don’t know his unique magic yet but we know he has parallels and some sort of connection to the prefect.

as for book 7, we know that they are going to do something different with it just what, we dont know. but that could be a factor too.

as Yuu has visions of chimera grim maybe, it is our yuu who has to stop him or maybe Grim is the turning point/cause of this loop too (or Crowley, malleus?)

and they implemented the retry feature

it could just be a feature but what if, we added that to the lore? What if the retry feature is timelines diverting? or AUs? Because of the choices made or will be made? and how that can affect the time line/loop too.

Or the Retry could be all the Yuus in the yuuverse and the retry is literally the time loop/reset.

personally, I would love it if we can do a “going between worlds” kind of trope. but the possibilities are endless.

what if I went darker? What if the only way to stop the time loop/reset

is by killing Grim? or even the Prefect? both? since they are “2 in 1″ after all

Prathamik never thought of a familiar place feeling so wrong.

She snaps her head up, and immediately catches sight of the other person standing across the room.

Who-?

He doesn’t recognize them. She doesn’t know who they are- did they come to do something to the dorm? Did they come to mess it up?

What’s going on?

Prathamik was just trying to get somewhere with the mirror, and then- how is he back at?? Ramshackle Dorm?? It doesn’t even feel like Ramshackle- his Ramshackle.

Something starts to embed itself in her bones, and all the Prefect can choke out is a small ‘who?’ to the other.

okay ik i said that the story dont rlly change but do not underestimate their version of twisted wonderland. it is my own self indulgent hell filled with headcanons and events. btw their moral compass has almost gone to SHIT cuz everyone at NRC in their version of twisted wonderland is fucking insane and horrible and the only reason they are alive is out of sheer fucking luck, willpower, spite and the fact everyone owes them. NRC will both torment them and also fight God for them. nobody else torments their prefect but them!!

anyways onto Ribbon aka ALIEN WHO KEEPS ADOPTING EVERYONE CHILL-

anyways yeah... probably the only Yuu who is actually planned to be in a relationship (Yuu does not count. their NRC is too mixed for them to know whether or not theyre in a relationship with them or not). the lucky mf is Lilia cuz although Ribbon has preferences for ppl who can cook good as partners. they still somehow think that "I can fix him" when it comes to Lilia's cooking like....no you cant Ribbon. give up pLEase

they still love him though. even with his horrible cooking that looks like it came straight from hell (Solomon?? dis u???)

oh yeah theyve also adopted almost all the students. nobody is safe. they will be tucked in in the softest blankets and pillows ever and kissed goodnight on the forehead. any resistance will be stopped with their ribbon limbs that are freakishly strong

So we all know that the manga Yuuverse has Yuu's correlated to each overblotter. For example Azul's insecure about his weight and Yuutas fat. (Correct me if that's the wrong one)

We all know Malleus is a scary feared mysterious guy

What if Diasomnias Yuu is an out there bubbly everyone knows them kinda person?

Does the "This is all a dream orchestrated by Malleus" relate to the Yuuverse with all the Yuus repeatedly going through the story over and over again? I have seen people theorize that every time a Yuu fails, a new one starts over and I'm too sleepy to actually relate this theory to the new events that just transpired.

I think you’re talking about two popular but different theories? 🤔 (Though now it definitely seems like those two theories are converging into one…?)

There were some that believed in the time loop theory. Some powerful entity (usually said to be Crowley) summons new Yuus every time the Yuu from the previous time loop fails and/or dies. It is said that the resets usually occur when Yuu is killed by an Overblot, with the most common “death by Overblot” owing to Grim. Some also embellish the theory with ideas about Crowley’s motives and whether he is a good person or not.

There is an extension of time loop theory—the “Yuu is dead” theory; in “Yuu is dead”, the player character is theorized to be someone who died while crossing the road (yup, an isekai classic; the manga and light novel Yuu all got transported at a crosswalk), and Crowley summoned them into Twisted Wonderland after their passing to serve his own needs. Sometimes people will point to Yuu emerging from a coffin and/or Crowley avoiding the topic of bringing them home (since it’s impossible due to their “dead” status) as proof of Yuu being dead. Both time loop and Yuu is dead theory primarily stem from the many iterations of Yuus across various official TWST media (the manga, the light novel, etc).

Others believed in the dream theory, in which (much like the original Alice in Wonderland), everything in Twisted Wonderland is just a dream that someone is having. There are variations of the dream theory depending on who the dreamer is, but the most common ones I’ve seen assign the designation of dreamer to either Yuu (who has been having prophetic dreams in the main story) and Malleus (whose Disney counterpart is strongly associated with inducing sleep). Sometimes dream theory also includes evidence backed up by Silver, who appears to have some kind of vague association with Yuu and their dreams. It is worth noting that some fans do not like dream theory because they feel that it devalues the experiences had and the relationships formed if nothing was “real”.

As I said before (given what we know of the most recent main story update), it seems like people are now combining different aspects of those two theories to make a new one. The update is still pretty fresh, so I haven’t yet had the time to read up and acclimate myself with the various time loop-dream theory combinations.

One thing that I will note is interesting is??? I remember Yana saying a few years ago that we should treat TWST’s events and vignettes as AUs separate from the main story, and at the time I thought it was to make things easier for the writing team (so they didn’t have to worry about timeline stuff). But now???? I’m wondering if every event and vignette was actually a part of the dream world… The evidence is (sort of??) there!!

I normally wouldn’t include gameplay mechanics as part of a theory (since I compartmentalize meta from the story/characters/lore), but I feel that the gloves are off for this since Malleus initiated what was essentially a fourth-wall break at the end of 7-37 (booting us back to the main screen of Twisted Wonderland after forcing everyone to sleep). The part where he casts his spell is even named “Forced Game Over”, which is very on the nose for a character who is not tied to technology other than being really bad at using it. He also says a lot of foreboding things about how “it would be better for fictional characters to stay as they are forever” (not an exact translation, I’m just generalizing).

AnYWAY, my thought is??? Are the events and/or vignettes meant to be the characters dreaming (not that Malleus necessarily created the dream world, but the dream world is like their collective unconscious and/or everyone having individual dream/their own iterations)???? Because Malleus promises to send them to a world where they can be “heroes”, a place where they can find “happy endings”, where no one has to leave. Most events and/or vignettes have very carefree vibes to them or just generally non-serious conflicts. They’re usually full of tales of carefree school days.

The vignettes and events also being part of the dream world also explains why Lilia (whose magic was supposedly waning is still able to use his quite proficiently), and why some characters who would normally be somewhat hostile towards each other seem more mellowed out in some events (ie Epel and Vil having an amicable relationship in the first Halloween event when they didn’t learn to get along until episode 5, which takes place in late winter). It would also explain why sometimes main story happenings are referenced in vignettes and events, but the vignette and event happenings are not mentioned in the main story. Characters are bringing knowledge of reality into the dreams, but when they “awaken” from those dreams, they cannot recall all the details from them.

Another detail that’s pretty suspicious is the animation that plays when you’re Groovying a card 👁️ 👄 👁️ What covers the screen when you do??? That’s right—thorns, just like when Malleus casted his unique magic. Was this TWST’s indirect way of cluing us in that the whole damn game was just a dream?????? The title whenever we boot up the game was staring at us in the face with the “answer” all along: Twisted Wonderland. A dreamy place full of wonders—but just that, a dream.

Ya know, something I realized when I first got into Twisted Wonderland back in June was that I wasn't really satisfied with the dialogue options of the MC/Yuu. I was like... why can't I have the option to tease em a little. Poke em. Shake the blorbos around. Maybe say something that'll make it so Yuu ends up getting their ass kicked, who knows.

Originally I was just screwin around with that thought train but then it became more and more apparent to me... does Yuu even really, TRULY need to be there in order for the plot to unfold? What they say, for the most part, doesn't really affect what happens. I understand that was what was gone for on purpose for like... a self-insert type thing that's vague enough where people can project onto the MC. Which opened up lovely opportunities for OCs and the Yuuverse like the stuff in the manga!! And that is lovely!!!

But at the same time i can't help but wonder, how would Yuu actually feel in this situation? Just sorta being around for all the chaos and spectating it as it all unfolds. I'd imagine not great??? Why does nothing they do change things? And on top of being magicless, to add.

There's all these overblots happening: Riddle, Leona, Azul, Jamil, etc. one after the other, it's obviously a pattern. Yet canon Yuu doesn't really do too much in advance to try to prevent it.

It made me want to take my own sorta shot at it, make some changes and twists (har har) to Yuu as a whole. One who is maybe a little less likely to tolerate bullshit and a bit more likely to get their ass kicked. One who WANTS to be more involved, to push themselves into this story more than the canon has.

SOOO i'm doing that now whenever my adhd gives me the dopamine for it, but anyway, I'm just rambling lmao. It makes me wish that there were more dialogue options to choose from, and those options deviated the course of the story. I unno. I love this game, and I think part of me just wants more content from it 💕

Decided to Gacha-fied the Yuu so far, including my main oc and yuusona. From left to right:

Yukiko Sekaihashi - my yuusona

Doesn’t wear jacket because the uniform shirt is already long-sleeved. Wears headphone or always hold her phone because “ew, social”. Purple hair and eyes based on my very first oc back in middle school and it stuck until now. 

Yuuya Kuroki - main character of TWST light novel

There’s no visual for Yuuya, so this is very personal interpretation. Brown hair because it was said he has “dark” or “short brown hair”. Fluffy hair is a must. Dark pink eyes because he’s precious. Wears his uniform formally with jacket tucked in.

Yuuken Enma - main character of Heartslabyul manga

Doesn’t wear dorm vest because his old uniform doesn’t have a vest. Using creative liberlies to differentiate her with other manga protagonists. Hair is supposed to be bronze, the color of strength, stability, loyalty, and support. Red eyes because he’s the main character of Heartslabyul manga. Green shoes to match his old school jacket. Casual color and shoes will match Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle.

Yuuta Mito - main character of Octavinelle manga

Gacha Club doesn’t have an official plus size design so I tried my best. Doesn’t wear formal shirt but still wear jacket over his shirt like in the manga. Using creative liberlies to differentiate her with other manga protagonists. Hair supposed to be Chartreuse, the color of acceptance, distinction, cheerfulness, imagination. Violet eyes because he’s the main character of Octavinelle manga. Dark blue shirt and brown shoes supposed to be a reference to Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service.

Yuuka Hirasaka - main character of Savanaclaw manga

She wears the complete uniform, jacket tucked out. Using creative liberlies to differentiate her with other manga protagonists. Hair is supposed to be cobalt, the color of solitude, productivity, ingenuity, and enlightenment. Yellow eyes because she’s the main character of Savanaclaw manga.  Casual color and shoes will match Nausicaä from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

Yuu Nagamatsu - personal interpretation of Game!Yuu

There’s no visual for Game!Yuu because of the self-insert nature, so this is very personal interpretation. Cooked shrimp color shrimp; ginger hair with white streak and gray eyes. Complete uniform but doesn’t buttoned up jacket. Has the basic ass Kirito-esque isekai/light novel main character personality. The surname is used as 長松 with 長 (chou, osa, naga.i) meaning "leader, long," 松 (shou, matsu) meaning "pine tree". Prefect of Ramshackle Dorm.

When given option to wear a sweater, he would pick it. Jacket tied on his hips just in case he needs it for a formal meeting. Right arm has different color because it is prosthetic. Vice-prefect of Ramchackle Dorm.

The only thing I want to add because her references are picrews is that she is a size US 12-14 when it comes to body type. The first picrew you see before her bio is the one that best matches her appearance!
