spoilers: Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Saw a post on here about how remarkable it is that in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Edgin chooses platonic love over romantic love at the end. And I gotta say, that's not quite what's happening there.

Earlier, when he was finally honest with Kira (Sofina), he acknowledges "I was trying to bring my wife back. I wasn't trying to bring your mother back."

And then later he reunites with the real Kira. And she forgives him. And he goes through the character transformation to become a real hero.

And that point is when he is faced with a pretty classic choice. Does he repeat his mistake or does he move forward as a better person? Does he bring back his wife, which is what caused his separation from Kira in the first place? Or does he bring back Kira's mother (who is really, for all intents and purposes, Holga)?

He chooses the selfless act of bringing back the person Kira cares about.

My point is that his choice wasn't between romantic love and platonic love. His choice was between romantic love and parental love.

That said, it is still remarkable that Edgin and Holga have not a whiff of romance between them. It is very uncommon to see a platonic different-gender couple raising a child together in a movie, for sure. And very uncommon for a male character and female character to be depicted as being so close and so familial with each other without them being in a romantic relationship (or related).

But also extremely remarkable how they emphasized Holga's relationship with Kira as being more important than Zia's. And extremely remarkable that Holga's depicted as a stoic barbarian and simultaneously as a mother, without one part of her diminishing the other.

can't stop thinking that out of the main 4 in tkc, zia is probably the only one that doesn't know other pantheons exist. like, sadie and carter have met with percy and annabeth, they're up to speed, there's no way anubis doesn't know that other gods exist which means walt also knows, and that leaves zia hanging in the unknown.

like, just imagine they all meet with a demigod for an unknown reason and the demigod's like "yeah, greek gods exist too, i'm a child of theirs", the kanes are like "yeah, we know", walt just nods in approvement and zia's on the side going "wait WHAT??"

even better if she goes like "WHY do other pantheons exist, the egyptians were on earth the longest-" and blah blah blah and then the demigod just goes "why not. the egyptian history exists, why not the greek, or roman, or even norse for that matter" and she just stands there. and absorbs that. and finds logic in it but doesn't agree with it because she's grown up with the egyptian pantheon her whole life, iskandar raised her for gods' sake, she just not built to expand her worldview to that extent.

Mario loves all his niblings equally, but he definitely spoils Magma the most, because she's the babiest (and she still calls Mario her mama and that's what led to him getting baby fever to begin with 🧍)

Magma's very young and when she's told she's going to have a cousin, and then she's told they're twins, she doesn't understand that at all, but zio mama and zia Peach look very excited, so she's excited too!

Thing is, she still doesn't quite get it- so she still asks for uppies from Mario (and that's on him, he spoiled her that way) and his back hurts a lot and all and yet he holds her (most likely to do it sitting down at the last months tho), and sometimes she looks at his growing belly weird, like she's not sure why it's so big suddenly, and Mario or Luigi each time explain it's her baby cousins in there.

Luigi is told by Mario right away that he's pregnant, over the phone, so he's all excited and talking hurriedly in Italian and Bowser besides him is like >:3 ? (bc a few minutes ago they were snogging, until Luigi's phone ringed for the second time, and he picked up only bc it said it was 'fratellone'). When Luigi hangs he excitedly tells Bowser that they're going to be uncles, and maybe it takes a few seconds for his husband's words to process but when they do he's like What?! Red's gonna have a baby? Nice for them!

Anyways- imagine those big siblings that are still babies themselves and then get a new baby sibling... Mario is Magma's favorite uncle ever (maybe even her favorite person after mama and papa), so when he suddenly has a baby on his arms and showing it to her she's like ?? and not only that, but Zia Peach has an exact same baby on her arms too. And we'll, she's like jealous of the babies all of a few hours until Mario goes back to hold her and snuggle her face, and even let's her pat the babies blanket-wrapped bodies for a bit, and she likes them right away.

“A’right lass, let me take a took” he examined the watch and soon after fixed the problem.

“There ya go, all brand new” hobie spoke with a grin

“Thanks hobes!” You smirked “I don’t think I know anyone who builds better watches than you.

“Oh course ya don’t” Hobie laughed as you both giggled at your little inside joke with each other.

D&D: Honor Among Thieves (Xenk/Edgin) fic rec list:

These are just based on those I've read and loved so far. There are so many incredible works coming out of this new fandom that I'm sure I'll have enough recs for a second post in another month or so.

Because this turned onto a bit of a long post, the recs are below the cut.

Curse of the Green Hag by @moorishflower (E, 16k)

Xenk contracts a fuck-or-die curse and turns up on Edgin's doorstep for the first time since Neverwinter. Also contains an excellent cameo from Holga, a bit of bondage, Xenk's first time, and A Lot of emotions. And of course the actual smut is top tier. Already wanting to read this one again.

High Praise Indeed by enchantedsleeper (T, 3k)

Xenk stops by Holga and Edgin's cottage to find Edgin in the throes of a breakup. In the process of trying to persuade Edgin of his many worthy qualities, he accidentally reveals a little too much. Short and very sweet, with cameos from Holga and Kira. Would recommend for fans of pining idiots.

Five times Ed says that he hates Xenk and one time he doesn't. Yes, a 5+1 things, but oh it's so much more than that! There are heists and hijinks, accidental asshole Edgin, uncertain and inexperienced Xenk, and a hint of polyamory between Simon and Doric, but the whole party are featured and written perfectly here. Also contains Many emotions. I sent this one to the group chat, and we were ALL screaming about it (in the best way)

Universal Glue by Korwwa (E, 10k)

A rescue mission goes wrong, and Xenk and Edgin get caught in, yes, a glue trap. The premise may sound like a crack fic, but it's definitely taken seriously, whilst still being very fun. Plus a wee bit of angst for (delicious) seasoning.

Scraping the Moss Off the Standing Stones by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels (E, 4k)

Established relationship, Xenk comes home after a long time away and Edgin takes care of him. Oh boy, this fic sure packs a lot into just 4k words, and I feel like the author just Gets how I imagine Xenk - always seen as holy or evil, but just wanting to be treated like a person. Also very hot - I'm weak for some well-written dirty talk and this is perfect.

When the well runs dry by demon_faith (G, 2k)

Part one of the Time Heals All Wounds series, which can either be read as a series or as stand-alone fics. Established relationship, Edgin is badly injured, and Xenk is unable to heal him. A classic hurt/comfort with a good bit of Edgin whump, and Xenk struggling with the reality of that.

On the edge of a blade by demon_faith (T, 3k)

Part two of the series, again established relationship. This time, Xenk gets badly hurt, and it's up to Edgin to take care of him. Heavy on both the hurt and the comfort.

lay on hands by @hauntedfalcon (E, 2k)

A getting-together/first-time fic, with a healthy dose of body worship. Xenk gets off on Edgin's metaphors. Beautifully written, and also my initial thoughts were - this is an author who sure is clued up on the names of medieval clothing/armor.

half your life (you've been hooked on death) by roundtriptojupiter (T, 2.5k)

Edgin struggles to process the events of the past six months, when Xenk turns up at his doorstep. Or, Edgin and Xenk process grief together, then kiss about it. A great exploration of Edgin's emotions, not only regarding Zia and Holga, but of the other people he may have harmed along the way.

We can burn much brighter (if we don't look back) by enchantedsleeper (T, 6k)

Xenk apprehends Forge and learns of the events that transpired at Neverwinter. Grappling with the fact that his past almost repeated itself while he was too far away to help, he encounters Edgin. Such a lovely post-movie fic, exploring just how Edgin and Xenk are processing their feelings in the wake of it.

Do you know you'll never fly alone? by MayGlenn (T, 1.2k)

Something a bit more light-hearted to end the recs list on: a fix-it of sorts, but for the poor undead guy in the post-credits scene. Xenk takes Edgin on a late night ride, to fix an issue he'd left behind, but maybe for something more also...

Percy excitedly counting down the days six months after Carter's top surgery then dragging him into the pool so he can experience how nice it is to swim and sunbathe shirtless.

Carter floating aimlessly on his back in the chlorinated water. Zia is laying on one of the lawn chairs, fully clothed because "I'm not swimming, so what's the point". He wonders if the warmth of the sun against his healing skin in the late September weather is a subtle gift from her.

He blows her a kiss when she peeks at him from behind her book. She rolls her eyes and goes back to reading.

Percy is swimming circles around Carter. Over and over again. Every so often the water dips across his chest. It files over his scar line, tentative. Then withdraws as Percy moves away from Carter's chest.

He never swam much. His body was too visible, even in a t-shirt. The fabric clung heavy to his skin, drying sticky and uncomfortable, and would show every curve he wanted to hide. Even in the sanctity of the Nome, privacy and solitude, he couldn't stand it. It held into him. A reminder of what he was refusing to be

But now, the cool water against his bare back is a relief he hadn't expected. The sun warm on his finally exposed chest, he thinks of Bast splayed out on the windowsill in the early afternoon. He thinks of Percy soaking in a cold bath. Understanding of the comfort the sought sinks through him with every tickling wave across his skin. He breathes in the cool autumn air and exhales slow and low. His hands, laid flat on his belly, rise with each breath.

This is nice.

I don't have a proper explanation because currently I'm doing a whole rewrite for Genesis hhhh

But here's a breakdown to get the gist of how things are gonna go:

First half:

Voltage is a rogue Decepticon fugitive and he escapes Cybertron on a stolen ship that crash lands on Earth and then he meets Mea! He basically becomes a father-figure to Mea for 12 years and on her 19th birthday, Voltage is caught by some "old friends", he goes on the run again and Mea is dragged into it. He gets caught, and Mea is left behind.

Second half:

Mea has no way to get home up until a ship crash lands, she goes to investigate and meets Zodiac who escaped Cybertron after a while of waking up from stasis lock and doesn't want any part of the war at all so he's neutral. Mea tries to convince him to help her find Voltage, Zodiac says no but eventually agrees after a long while of spending time with her.

And that's all I've got! I can't say the rest because then, spoilers mwehehe but Zia, Gab, Stormwave and Mayday do eventually show up in the story! I've also got new ocs im planning on that will be the main antagonists.

Joey: Hmm, yeah bro

Tuesday: Oh my gosh, have I reached Joey York? The JOEY YORK

Joey: *sleepily* Tuesday?

Tuesday: Yes the best woohoo buddy around. You down to push it?

Joey: Watcher needs me to stay on lot tonight but if you can come over… and then come over and over

Tuesday: Shut up dork I’ll be there, I need to unwind

Joey gets up and after checking the twins are certainly asleep he goes to let Tuesday in. He knows if Devin or Luna hear weird noises they won’t investigate and just assume he’s doing something, but he doesn’t need toddlers interrupting anything. The pair make their way into the kitchen and Tuesday continues her performance of fawning all over him.

Joey: Not that I don’t love some attention for one as hot as yourself but is there a reason for this performance?

Tuesday: *jokingly* I’m in the presence of greatness

Joey did and when Tuesday was ready he stood back up, whispering to her that this will be good. Tuesday nods and Joey starts. He enjoys woohoo with Tuesday, they’ve been woohoo buddies since he finished high school. She’s got a great body, a creative mind and she’s normally down to get it on whenever. Beyond that she’s aromantic just like him so he never has to worry she’s going to catch feelings. When they’re finished she kisses him on the cheek and takes off while he heads straight to the shower. He knows the watcher hasn’t put any WTD’s in game but he always likes to keep clean. Satisfied he dries off and climbs in bed to sleep, and dream of how many women his new celebrity status could give him access to.

A new day dawns and Devin has time to give the twins baths before she’s needed on set. First up is Alfred.

Alfred: Where’s Mummy

Devin: Mummy is in the pool trying to not be afraid of water any more

Rilian: I want be in water

Devin: You are next caro, but you need to have potty practice

Alfred: I went potty in my diaper *giggles*

Devin: Oh I know

Alfred: *quacks* Duckie happy *splashes*

Devin: Careful, you’ll get Mama’s sunglasses wet

Devin lifts Alfred up and dries him off. Getting him in his day clothes she sends him off while an impatient Rilian pulls at her leg.

In the kitchen Luna walks in from her swim to see a nervous Joey looking around.

Luna: You alright?

Luna: I doubt it, you worry to much. Look at me, I thought I was going to drown in our pool but after some solid laps I can now confidently say I was overreacting. Besides, your coworkers will probably be to busy asking about your game to do real work

Alfred: What splode (explode)

Luna: Morning schnucki. Zio Joey was just saying people like his game

Alfred: Game? Can we play game? Please?

Joey: I suppose since you used your manners… do you want to be… a bird?

Alfred jumps up and down excitedly. Luna laughs as Joey begins lifting him up and down and spinning the toddler around. When he’s got Alfred on his back he pauses.

Joey: Remember, to fly you have to flap. Can you flap

Alfred: *flaps arms* Caw caw! Caw caw!

Luna: Very good bird Alfred

Devin: Remember caro, we try keep the water in the bath

Rilian: Mama, you play pirate today

Devin: Yes I will

Rilian: Pirate get to be in water?

Devin: Not for this film, maybe if we get another one. Would you like to be a pirate

Devin: A sea monster? Very scary. Come on, bath is over, we need to do breakfast

Rilian sighs sadly and refuses to leave the bath until all the water has drained out. When he’s dry he lets Devin carry him to the kitchen and gets excited seeing Joey and Alfred playing.

Rilian: Mama I want to play with Zio Joey

Devin: Eat your breakfast, your whole breakfast, then we’ll see

Rilian: Yes Mama

Devin: Have you seen where Lu went

Joey: I think she said she was going to check if that genealogy place has the sample yet

Rilian: Mama can I has milk please

Alfred: Me to please

Devin: Sure, oh wow you two just demolished your breakfasts. You must be growing! Joey will you have some time after work free before dinner

Joey: Probably, why

Devin: No reason, now turn around and left me check the size tag on your jacket

Devin: Zio Joey will get you out, Mama's just going to wish Mummy luck for her lecture today

Joey gets the twins out of the high chairs Joey entertains them while Devin kisses Luna then has the chance to have breakfast. While Joey spins Rilian around Alfred bobs like a bird to the music and makes quacking noises.

Devin: Rilian piccolo, let Zio Joey get to work

Rilian pulls a face as Joey lowers him carefully to the floor.

Joey: See you all later. Good luck on set sis, knock em dead

Devin: Grazie

Devin: Where are you going

Rilian: Dollhouse Mama

Devin: Be careful playing with it bambinos

Alfred: Yes Mama

Devin: And if you break it come tell me!

While the boys enjoy playing together Devin sets about her chores for the day. She tries to set up a regular maid and gardening service but apparently there’s a small waitlist. A least the daycare is helpful, assuring her they will look after her toddlers while she’s on set.

Final task before she leaves, meal prep. She enjoys making meatballs, remembering when she was young and her ma would teach her how to ball them up. And the many discussions with her pa about getting the balance of the sauce right. She can cook them almost on autopilot now, allowing her a final chance to run lines in her head.

*Big One Piece Spoiler ahead*

I'm currently watching this show which aired in 1982 and ran for like a year, called "Mysterious Cities of Gold". It's quite an old series and very hard to find. Over the past couple of years many fans tried to upload it on various sites all over the internet but for some reason or the other, the show was taken out only a few weeks or a couple of months after the show was uploaded. Even if you try to google the show, most of the sites will tell you it was only one season but in reality it was 4 seasons. If anyone is up for it, I can provide links if it's still available. I was lucky enough to have been able to download all 4 seasons of it.

The show is interesting because it has so many similarities with one piece and i think Oda took some inspiration from it because

1. Back when the first season aired, Oda was probably just a kid

2. It even aired on Japanese television soon after, with the name "Taiyou no ko Estaban" (son of the sun Estaban)

The show is about the protagonist Estaban who lives in Barcelona, somewhat parallel to Luffy. Estaban can also command the sun and make skies clear even during the strongest of storms or rainfalls.

There are 3 more characters who run parallel with some op characters, Zia, an Incan girl who can read old and rare Incan texts and thus the Spanish govt. was always after her and in several instances they kidnapped her to find out what the incan scripts said about the cities of gold (El Dorado). She's parallel to Robin's character. There's a guy named Tao who's a descendant of an old advanced civilization called Mu who were known as the people of the Sun. They were famous for harvesting and using the power of the sun and they were technologically advanced (again somewhat parallel to the ancient advanced civilization in op). He's just like Usopp, good at fixing things and very crafty. In fact it was him who first provided the team with their first ship called Solaris. It had solar panels instead of sails and it had the power to run the ship 100 times faster than a normal ship running on sails. And just like Going merry, it got destroyed in an event. The second mode of transport they got was not a ship but a plane that looks like a bird.

Estaban was saved by a Spanish govt. navigator when he was just a baby. Ten years before the current timeline, the navigator named Mendoza (somewhat parallel to Shanks, since he uses one handed sword techniques and saved Estaban in the sea just like shanks saved kid Luffy) spotted a wrecked ship on a stormy night and the only survivors were Estaban and his father. The man hands Estaban over to Mendoza and then he was washed away. Ever since, Mendoza had been keeping an eye on Estaban. Estaban's father also handed Estaban a medallion on his neck that turns out to be one of the 2 keys to open 7 cities of gold that is scattered all around the world.

The story goes like this, many years ago there existed 2 advanced civilizations, Mu and Atlantis. They fought a huge war against each other over power resources. Alas they ended up destroying each other. Later some survivors of the Mu empire built 7 cities of gold all around the world where they hid tonnes of gold and several ancient technologies for the betterment of the world, and handed down 2 medallions to 2 generations of families. And as time passed, the medallions kept getting passed on among certain families and one ended up with Estaban and the other ended up with Zia. The high priest of the first city of gold (turns out he was estaban's father) said that the advanced civilization was so powerful and so technologically advanced that the survivors of the Mu empire knew that any adult who gets their hands on these powerful resources and tonnes of gold, would surely get greedy and fall to the bad side. And if the adults started fighting for these powerful technologies, they would end up using these advanced technologies again to destroy the world.

This is where it gets important for guessing what one piece could be. The high priest said the cities of gold and the keys to their doors were wished to have fallen into the hands of kids, because a child's innocence and wonder would never let the advanced technologies be used for bad purposes, like greed for power and war.

We are now aware of how there existed an ancient advanced civilization in one piece too, that created cool robots like the one in Egghead island. And to think the robot is so advanced that even a man like Dr. Vegapunk couldn't get it activated or figure out what fuel does it run on.

What if, one piece is a child's toy? A toy that children of the 800 years old ancient civilization built and played with!! This is something Oda could do, a gag ! And he simply doesn't do gags, he makes things so silly, yet so meaningful. Where, if this theory is taken into account, and we consider that the one piece is indeed a toy that the children of the ancient advanced civilization played with, at the same time it could also turn out that the toy itself was so advanced that it was like a powerful technology for the normal humankind.

To support my theory even further, back when Roger and his crew visited Laugh-tale and figured out what one piece is, Roger laughed and even said something close to "I came at a wrong time, this is not my time to reveal or use the one piece". It's something that people are so serious about that they wanna turn the whole world down. But only someone with the innocence of a child can actually use the one piece, since no adult can value a toy as much as a child can. Which is why if recalled, op has always shown how boys like Luffy, Chopper, Usopp and the boys from Punk hazard are so fascinated with robots and cool mechanical machineries. And the term "man's romance" is always stressed at times like these.

If anyone has seen Ben 10 alien force and recalls that one episode where a mysterious cube shaped alien technology was mimicking anyone who attacked it, like Gwen, Kevin, their powers, and even transformed into every one of Ben's aliens and it seemed like a totally destructive and advanced weapon. But it turns out, it was just a child's toy from some higher dimension and the child's mother later came to earth and picked up the toy, saying that her kid had dropped the toy somewhere back when they came to the lower dimension on the earth, for a family picnic. Or to hang out or something like that.

I feel this little Ben 10 alien force scene is a coincidental yet strong correspondence with the theory i have proposed above. In short what I'm guessing is, there's a huge chance that in a story like one piece where Oda likes to just mess around like what children would like the most, with cartoonish art style and funny gags, where he not only shows us serious stuff, but never fails to make us laugh with his cartoonish composition of manga panels and the over all story, the one piece could very well be just a toy, like a robot or some sort of weapon or a machinery, which to normal humankind, would look like a powerful weapon and the adults will surely try to obtain it for their selfish desires. Whereas, only a child's innocence could make the utmost use of it.

Mendoza:

1. “Mendoza did not exactly *begin* as father material, what with him being a character with a very grey morality at first and both a help to the children and someone they couldn't trust fully, but his entire arc in the first season is him becoming a better person. None of the kids are biologically his but he just went and unofficially adopted all three of them. Their story is inextricably bound up with the show's story.

He first met Esteban when Esteban was a baby and was handed to him in the middle of a storm at sea (then Esteban's father seemingly died in said storm), but because Mendoza was young and interested in gold he let a local (?) church raise the child. He then met Esteban again twelve years later, on the same day he would be kidnapping Zia (for money, because Zia knows how to read quipus that the Spanish hope will tell the way to the Inca's gold) (the show takes place in the early 16th century). So he begins by kidnapping a child and manipulating another to hide in a ship and cross an ocean. They all meet Tao later, and this one is wary of him too at first, but he ends up winning their trust while bettering himself.

He's the only parental figure these kids have: Esteban's father was lost at sea after his mother was killed, Zia spends most of the first season looking for her father only for him to get killed an episode or two after their reunion, and Tao lost both his parents years ago. In the beginning of the show he's completely using them to find a legendary city of gold, and even admits it, but as the story goes he's caring more and more for them and puts himself in mortal danger just to help them, when just running away would have been much more beneficial to him. In later seasons this pattern keeps up and he's not even a grey character anymore, he's just their dad who's scheming and plotting sometimes. With the cities of gold having been revealed to be monetarily worthless he wouldn't have any reason to still accompany them, but he loves them so he stays with them. He's much more of a dad than Esteban's birth father (who miraculously reappears but keeps getting pushed out of the way by the plot), he's teaching them stuff and protecting them and cheering them on and worrying about them and helping them every step of the way. He makes dad jokes. When random people ask if Zia is his daughter he says yes, and he would say the same for Tao (and for Esteban too but he's hung up about Esteban's "real" father being alive and a nice guy).”

2. “He took Esteban on his journey because he needed his medallion, Zia because his commander requested it, and Tao because he was useful. But then he fought so much at their side that he pretty much betrayed the Spanish army and everything else to protect those kids. They didn't like him much at first, but eventually grew to love him in return, especially in later seasons.”

3. “Sly Spaniard looking for some gold in the New World accidentally adopts the three children he more or less uses to find the Mysterious Cities of Gold, but he also cares about them and accidentally starts caring about them so much that by the end of the first season he realises how much he would miss them if they weren't there.”

Sylvie Edson Ford Hearth - red bull's biggest non-driving menace

gives christian horner a run for his money whenever possible (has expressed her blatant dislike for him on tv but she still "respects" him to an extent; she likes toto better). max verstappen's lady macbeth. also known as Aunnie Vie (no 't' in auntie). current situation: cannot cause minor inconvenience in the red bull garage at the moment due to her photoshoot gigs and paperworks waiting for her in her red bull headquarters office.
