the enshittification of the web is going so fast that i am saddened to say that i'm relying more and more on chatgpt for simple searches that i used to be able to do a web search for. i default duckduckgo as my search engine with google as a back-up, but neither are performing anywhere near as well as they used to.
remember when you could write the most inane description of a plot or object, and a web search would magically present you with what you were looking for? that just doesn't work anymore!
earlier today i forgot the word for romanesco broccoli. i tried to search for "broccoli but with spikes" – a stupid description but i don't doubt it would've worked not so long ago. neither duckduckgo nor google had any idea what to do with that. chatgpt, on the other hand, instantly gave me the answer i was looking for.
of course i could have appended my search with a "before 2023" filter, or a simple mention of reddit. but why would i do that if another tool provides me with what i was looking for without all that hassle? moral and ethical reasons abound, but who's going to think of that when they need to be reminded of the name of a vegetable?

I wouldn't even know where to start with this... The hygiene, the sheer danger, the uneven step sizes, the inconsistent step top layers. Everything about this is just Wrong

one-upping a virtue signaling "killing is bad" vegan by saying you adhere to a omnivorous diet because it's disciminatory to value one form of life over the other based on the superficiality of animation and common physiology

my hot mental health take is that the boom of adhd cases we’ve been seeing and diagnosing lately is manufactured. not in the sense that it’s not real but in the sense that short-form internet content is making our brains crave stimulus at a rate it wasn’t actually made to handle properly so we now feel like the real world is at 0.75x at all times making it harder to concentrate.

maybe it's a trickery of the light? the way black cats "rust" when the sunlight strikes their fur in at a particular angle

I do wonder when we'll be able to move beyond the numbered naming scheme of the iPhones and Galaxy S'es
Numbers beyond ten just start to sound a bit ridiculous. Also I feel like it's due time for a shakeup that warrants a new naming scheme. Smartphones have gotten boring.

It's not just France that buckled. The EU has rolled back a buttload of environmental regulations pertaining to farmers. It's a whole shitshow. The farmers who'd been preparing for the regulations have now made investments that puts them at a competitive disadvantage over the farmers who dug their heels in. And the farmers who dug their heels in won't be much better off in the long run because eventually these environmental regulations still have to be put into effect. All they've done is delay the inevitable while causing much uncertainty and chaos around past and future regulations.
Not to mention that there will most likely be copycat movements that have now learned that threat displays and temper tantrums work.
It was weird seeing American leftists, who clearly had no idea what was actually going on, celebrating the farmer's protests in Europe considering they've largely been a tantrum over climate change regulations. In France at least they've succeeded in encouraging Macron's government to roll back a whole range of environmental measures...so yeah! Fight the power!

I sometimes have to wonder if the way we treat media (consume & move on) had any influence on the way our society handles covid
it's like the vast majority of people decided they were done with it and therefore it was time to move on. as if it were a new tv show or movie that was only allowed to hold the limelight of public attention for so long.

also, even the best accomodation won't accomodate everyone. people's needs can and do directly oppose each other. a loud & clear metro voice-over may help the hard of hearing, but impede those with noise-related PTSD.
"disability only exists because the world isnt accessible" idk how to tell you this but chronic pain still hurts

I sometimes wonder if we should 'I am Spartacus' this shit. Have EVERYONE put in their bio that they're trans whether they truly are or not. It will inevitably detract from trans visibility but no more so than having every trans woman blocked.
Do you think photomatt is starting to get on your ass because he thinks you're a trans girl too lmao
actually what's crazy is i've been talking all of that shit about him on twitter and he hasn't blocked me but a ton of trans women who didn't even directly reply to him are blocked

seems to be a little more spacious than it looks on the plan

there is just so so much hallway
anyway £175k in Hillside and actually a pretty sweet offering. great location looks a lot less cramped than I've seen in similar places (looks like you can put a double bed in it & have room to breathe) and i think the way it's decorated is rly cute.

tbh i hope they never find a definitive answer to the original purpose/significance of Stonehenge. at least as far as i'm aware there are a multitude of theories, but no "this is it"-type of revelations. and i like it that way. there's something beautiful in the unknowability of its grandeur combined with our desire to preserve it. a relic the purpose of which is lost to time while its significance and fame, although changed in nature, have only ever increased.

as the years pass by im starting to feel more and more like humanity has reached a tipping point where our collective knowledge has exceeded our collective wisdom in a way that can only have disastrous consequences
we've already crossed the 1.5°C barrier of global warming last year, the entire year (dutch source). meanwhile renewable energy sources are nowhere near ready to replace fossil fuels (another dutch source).
generative models are busting the doors wide open for misinformation while the companies behind these models are rat racing towards some obscure goal with no regard for the societal damage they're inflicting (i mean look at this shit. how is nothing being done against this)
right wing parties are gaining traction seemingly everywhere
childhood vaccination rates are starting to fall below the critical 90% threshold (dutch source, and English (UK) source) needed to maintain herd immunity after the discussion around covid vaccines have caused people to question other vaccines as well.
i mean ffs at this point the only thing that makes me doubt whether we're witnessing the end of civilisation is that people have cried wolf about that for centuries and they were never right (somebody's gotta to be right about it at some point though)
