love thinking about what plot elements is present in Morganthe's story versus Morgana's in various King Arthurian tellings.
Charm of Making seemed to be like. doubled with the song of creation as well as the thing she and undying mali used to raise the aztecasaurs
Thinking of this scene in the Excalibur film where Morgana's trying to trick the charm of making out of Merlin so she can use it to uh... well. various nefarious things lmao.
Anyway Morgana's like "show me everything" (think Morganthe even says this to merle in Ghost Avalon- "teach me everything" i think it was phrased) and Merlin goes "even if such knowledge should blind you?" and Morgana goes "then blind me" and then he recites the charm of making and Morgana’s mind essentially breaks (sofia darkside, i think, also mentions morganthe mind being broken when encoushadow magic, but it’s very vague what that meant).
There's so many different moments that scene bleeds into. I'm thinking of when Merle banishes Morganthe in Wizard City and she screams like, identically to Morgana's actress in Excalibur. Of course the charm of making is literally referenced in Azteca- but in all realness I think that the Song of Creation is the plot equivalent of what the c.o.m was in Excalibur.
Excalibur also portrays a much more vengeful and ruthless Morgana than other iterations, and while we see similar for Morganthe as shadow queen, it's quite interesting to see how a much more aged-down Morganthe deals with similar events that occur in Arthurian Legend.
Idk what this post is getting at but i have information in my brain. woe upon ye.

Omg it's been whiiiile since I talked about my wiz/pirate oc's..... but my autism brain wants to List and Describe so here we go
Andrea, my Ice Wizard/main oc has generalized anxiety and a panic disorder. I used to have it where she has a service dog to aid her when panic attacks occur. A big part of her character is her trying to navigate this epic quest her sister Taylor (not blood related) has more or less dragged her into helping her on. There's this sort of balancing act between Andrea's caution and protectiveness versus Taylor's passionate (Taylor's a pyromancer btw lol)
My Life Wizard, Aaron Heart, is HOH and mostly mute. He mainly communicates through sign language. Him and my myth wizard Jamie are very close, and have their own little ways of communicating (personalized signs, vocal quips like whistling, or even tactile things). He's very gentle, but can become quite protective when his friends are in danger.
My necromancer, Daniel, is an amputee from the shoulder down of his left arm. He uses a prosthetic when we first meet him, tho I like the idea of him not always using it. I had this idea where later on in the story, he might use a sort of spectral "phantom limb" at times... tho it doesn't quite behave like a regular arm. It moves like it goes thru water, and could perhaps extend and detract.
Not my oc's of course, but I also headcanon Malistaire to have been born blind and (very much inspired by atla here lol) actually uses the spiritually tactile essence of magic to kind of "see", in a way. It's also, to me, partly why he's such a revered necromancer- his disability (while
It also got me thinking about how blind wizards might read... braille of course, but maybe they can envoke a voice of some kind that acts as an audio book. You could get pretty creative with this honestly.
Also. Miss Morganthe my very autistic, very cptsd girl failure of all time. One of her stim is curling that one strand of hair around her fingers like all the time. Sensory seeking, information seeking. Has no perception of when she's overstimulated. Social ques go right over her head esp when going from private teachings to basically public school. Probably developed some kind of dissociative disorder later in life/post khrysalis (literally she has 4 versions of herself, outside of her true self). Projects her failure and loneliness onto the wizard like the broken person she is.
My Pirates:
Dead Eye Jackie, my musketeer. She's mute, but due to the trauma of the armada murdering her parents. Regardless her reputation as a silent, precise, and determined markswoman. A big thing for her is finding her voice (not literally, but figuratively) and purpose outside of just hunting the armada down. Big Found Family lesson with her.
My Swashbuckler was born with some physical deformities. Most notably, he has a cleffed upper lip, and his right leg never fully grew in past the knee, so uses a prosthetic lower leg. He comes off incredibly confident to sort of own, but deep down he's had a history. Unlike my other pirates, he never knew his parents or why he was orphaned. In his mind, it was because of how he was born that he was abandoned. He plays it for laughs, but deep down he is afraid. Jackie is his long time best friend (though she doesn't show affection to him really, she does respect him and his disabilities, unlike many others).
My Buccaneer has a form of dwarfism (i know there are different kinds, though I don't think I ever settled on one specifically). Unlike my Swash, she is confident of herself through and through. With a very, very thic and booming grizzleheim accent, she demands respect and gets it. Older than my other pirates (who are more kids than anything) she takes on a more parental role, especially for my Swash. Also really love the visual dichotomy of a little person wielding a huge weapon and kicking ass with it.
Anywho. Thats some of me thoughts :D
Happy Disability Pride Month, young wizards! ♿
Tell me about your physically disabled, mentally ill, neurodivergent, chronically ill, and intellectually disabled OCs—wizards, pirates, and NPCs alike!
Here are mine (under a cut for length):
💀 Ophelia Starshroud has AuDHD and C-PTSD and is an amputee! 🌱
Ophelia is intense, intellectual, and impulsive, her undiagnosed AuDHD setting her apart from her peers just as much as her magic does. Having endured a childhood full of exclusion, bullying, judgment, and shame, she grew up lonely and developed a prickly, defensive demeanor early on. Despite this, Ophelia is of the opinion that it's other people who have the issue, not her—honestly, she doesn't understand why people can't just say what they mean and be more accepting of those who are different. Her experiences of undiagnosed autism and ADHD have brought her grief due to others' lack of empathy, but they've also brought her joy—in the form of discovering a new facet of one of her special interests, finding a fun new way of stimming, or even forging new connections with people who do understand what it's like to live with a brain that diverges from the "norm."
At the end of Khrysalis Part 1, Ophelia loses her right arm just below the elbow in her battle with Ghost Dog. Unable to return home to Wizard City until Morganthe is defeated, she is forced to go through the entirety of Part 2 with an empty sleeve. As Death magic is largely concerned with the body, her ability to use her magic takes a hit for a while until she adjusts to her new body image, and there are times when the fallout of losing a limb, such as the phantom itch, are borderline unbearable. Nevertheless, Ophelia is just glad it was her right arm she lost and not her left, and if there's one thing she's always been, it's resilient! Upon returning to Wizard City, she gets fitted with a myoelectric prosthesis powered by Storm magic.
🔥 Abigail Soulpyre is autistic and has panic disorder and C-PTSD! 🎲
The most obvious symptom of Abigail's autism is her lack of speech—she's completely nonverbal. She communicates primarily through Wizard City Sign Language, writing, and what essentially amounts to charades, with her unusually expressive face coming in handy. Though as tough as they come, she has sensory sensitivities to loud and grating sounds, which is what triggers most of her meltdowns. Those meltdowns—which manifest as crying and defensive violence—can be difficult to distinguish from her panic attacks, with the easiest way to tell them apart being to ascertain what triggered them: Her meltdowns are caused by unpleasant sensations or social overwhelm, whereas her panic attacks are triggered by reminders of her childhood trauma, which saw her locked in her father's cellar and subjected to horrific physical abuse for the first thirteen years of her life. The only person she allows near her during a meltdown or panic attack is her brother, and even then, the most he can usually do is sit next to her and speak in a low, soothing tone while waiting for the episode to run its course. Because of the social difficulties that come with both her autism and her isolated upbringing, Abigail avoids most people like the plague and generally prefers to only interact with her brother, though there are times when she takes a shine to someone else for reasons she can't really articulate, at which point she tends to behave in an overly familiar manner due to not being very good at grasping social boundaries.
🦇 Michael Soulpyre has C-PTSD, clinical depression, and post-traumatic psychosis resulting from a TBI! 🪻
Like his sister, Michael was raised in captivity, though he was held upstairs rather than in the cellar, and his abuse was composed primarily of verbal degradation and severe touch deprivation (unlike Abigail's, which tended more toward extreme physical abuse). Once freed from the so-called "house of horrors," Michael struggles with symptoms such as depressive apathy (especially where his own self is concerned—he doesn't have nearly as much trouble caring about others, especially his sister) and knee-jerk trauma responses to reminders of his father, even in cases where he hasn't figured out or can't actually articulate that, yes, the smell of that cologne does remind him of Angus Soulpyre. Perhaps because of these preexisting issues, when Michael gets into a motorcycle accident and sustains a traumatic brain injury, he develops post-traumatic psychosis, slipping deep into a depressive delusion and eventually developing full-blown Cotard's syndrome. It's at a dramatic climax that Michael, suicidal due to believing himself to be a walking corpse capable of "infecting" others, is saved by Abigail, who's finally realized that that "little bump" on the head from a few months back had dire consequences. After being taken to the hospital, Michael is set up with a new regimen of meds and therapy, and he is thereafter able to achieve a greater degree of health and independence with the help of his doctor and, of course, his sister.
🌸 Sumi Fallenblossom is Deaf! 🎸
Born with progressive hearing loss in both ears, Sumi was raised by two Deaf parents and so has been immersed in Deaf community and culture her whole life. She is extremely proud to be Deaf and sees it less as a disability and more as an integral, foundational part of her identity, one she wouldn't trade for the Spiral. She communicates via a combination of speech and Sign and relies largely on lip reading and body cues to figure out what other people are saying—nevertheless, misunderstandings are plentiful, which Sumi takes in good humor! She shares her dad's somewhat ironic love of punk rock music and enjoys nothing so much as taking out her hearing aid and rocking out to the frenetic, pounding rhythms of her favorite songs, perceiving the music more so by the sensations it creates in her body than by its sound. Her Deafness informs her (generally vibrant and quite active) social life, with most of her friends being fellow HOH people or the children of such people—or both!
🌺 Ocean Prismshimmer has ADHD! 🌊
Ocean's ADHD is the primarily inattentive subtype, which partially accounts for her very mellow, dreamy demeanor. Because she's incredibly forgetful, she's developed a number of strategies to ensure she remembers important deadlines and tasks, including papering her entire dorm room wall to wall in sticky notes and writing critical information on her hand/arm! (It's not unusual to see Ocean with so many reminders written down on her arm that she looks like she has a sleeve tattoo.) Though very bright, she struggles somewhat in school due to her executive dysfunction making it difficult for her to initiate and sustain effort on multi-step projects, even the ones she's genuinely interested in. Luckily, though, Ocean has never had an issue advocating for herself, and when her grades started lagging behind what she knew was her full potential, she went straight to the Student Disability Services office and asked about accommodations, which the Ravenwood faculty were more than happy to provide! Since then, Ocean has been able to take full advantage of extra time and resources with which to complete her schoolwork, and she's even found ways to turn her ADHD into a strength rather than a weakness, such as by leveraging her unparalleled creativity and talent for multitasking to come up with novel solutions to her everyday problems.
🌼 Suri Liontooth has joint hypermobility syndrome! ✍🏻
Though born with JHS, Suri didn't become symptomatic until her early adolescence. She experiences both chronic pain and chronic fatigue as well as frequent dislocations and subluxations of her joints, especially those in her wrists, knees, and ankles. To mitigate this, she often wears braces or splints when engaging in her hobbies of writing and gardening (hobbies she was warned away from by her doctor, but as the cottagecore girlie par excellence, she absolutely was not going to give them up for anything!). Though her condition is well managed by a combination of medicine and regular exercise, there are still days when she experiences a particularly bad flareup and is rendered bedridden until the illness passes. When this happens, Suri, a long-time proponent of slow living and self-compassion, takes each hour as it comes and treats herself the same way she would treat a loved one who was struggling—with immense gentleness and encouragement.
