The fact they’re saying anyone who hasn't made it to Winterfell by now is dead and conscripted into the army of monsters that likely killed them isn’t amusing, but probably has a hint of truth behind it. I at least believe the more southern North houses have... a bit more time. At best, those houses more south than Winterfell, at worst... even more south.

Despite all my time with the RWBY fandom...

I don’t think I’ve genuinely sat down and worked out a team. Individuals with hopes, dreams, morals.

“No”. His first line of answering, so simple, but held so much more meaning behind it. He spoke the word as if one was casually speaking about the weather, before he continued more so to explain himself. “I am not worried. Many of my friends have grown up, matured in their own way, worked past their own worries. My own fear... was death. I feared death before and after the War of the Five Kings, I feared death when my family was taken from me. But now? I’ve come to realize, death is apart of life. It’s the last stage of our life, the most mysterious part of it. My friends and I have worked through who we are, thus, if death came the way Jon Snow says it does, and I would have nothing to be fearful of. We’ve lived our lives fully”. Cley spoke a lot more meaningful with his words in this regard, compared to the single worded answer he gave priorly. Besides... death for a lonely man wasn’t as frightening as one would think. Greta had Torrhen, Meghan had Namond, but Cley had no one.

“I’m not saying don’t put up a fight, in fact, I fully expect the North to take up arms against death itself in stubbornness”. Cley actually gave a chuckle when stating that, before continuing in better manners. “I have no doubts we’d fight to the last man or woman before we fully accept death, what I think is... I am hopefully. Even if we do fail, there’ll still be hope. Something good will come out of a failure. I myself don’t intend to give in and accept what’s coming, I intend to fight for the future of my friends as well as myself, as they would for me”.

The young, but impressionable man spoke with avidity in the matter of fact, sharing his insight on that particular topic. The way Jon Snow spoke of it... the end of an era. But the end of the land of Westeros? The man wasn’t the same quiet colleague he remembered from back then.

“Truth be told: I believe the Starks have a hard time recalling other Houses in this region have suffered, and focus on their own suffering. Their survivors have changed so much... sometimes, it feels as though I’m looking at strangers with familiar faces. But I believe the threat they speak of... is real. Jon is many things, but a liar isn’t one of them”. Stubborn, impatient, unobservant... Yup, sounded like the stereotype of the Northern lords. ‘Just’ the person they need to represent the land as they go South, gathering support and such.

Pretend to give them bad news, pretend to break up with them, pretend to make an upsetting confession - as long as it hurts, it’s fair game.

Perhaps that was too deep of a comment for what was suppose to be a casual conversation between a good friend and himself? Maybe he should apologize and back-- No. He was ‘the Cerwyn’, and a Flint at that, he could spin this in a way that it wouldn’t be awkward. He’s tasted the cold clutches of battle, correctly conveying his words didn’t... didn’t seem that difficult anymore.

“What I mean is: You’ve seen much, and have accomplished quite a bit since the last time we’ve spoken. For better or worse, you’ve changed as a person, and the focus in your eyes convey such. You’ve surpass the hardships that once plagued you, and because of such, you’ve become profound”. Cley’s voice was considerate, and had a sense of better experience behind it. He knew of what Gwyn had to go through for peace to be achieved... sacrifice.
