I have this really weird pet peeve in comics fandom, which you can't really Talk About without it being mistaken for opposition to those headcanons in the the way certain Spider-Man fans were so opposed to a black Peter Parker that the writers invented Miles Morales about it, with the way Diverse Headcanons form, become popular, and occasionally even become mistaken for canon.
A lot of the time these headcanons are built on a combination of ethnic stereotypes and an outright refusal to engage with existing characters who actually have those identities in a way that generates the money that gets those characters further official content
The core example is the common headcanons about Robins prior to Damian-- the most popular headcanons about them are that Jason is Latino and Tim is Asian. And, like, I'm not necessarily opposed to them being Robins Of Color, and I'm not even necessarily opposed to those headcanons, but their popularity largely comes from unexamined biases and ethnic stereotypes about Latino and Asian men. The aggressive, hot-headed, violent Robin who came from a poor neighborhood must be Latino, and the well-off, nerdy teacher's pet Robin who's known for being good at computers must be Asian. I've seen Bat-fans balk at the suggestion of headcanoning Tim as Latino, or headcanoning Jason (or god forbid Dick) as Asian, often saying the quiet part loud: "it just doesn't fit their personality." They cast a black actor as Tim on Titans and I actually saw people who bill themselves as progressives complaining about it, because it ignores the popular Asian Tim headcanon
And the thing is, there actually are a fair number of fun Latino and Asian characters in DC canon! They're nowhere near as prominent, but, when you ask these same fans to maybe pay some attention to them, they make excuses and hem and haw and stick to making comic panel edits "correcting" the skin tones and facial features of their favorite canon white dudes to align with their headcanons. But if you ask them to make fanart or talk for even a second Jaime Reyes or Renee Montoya or Cass Cain, it's like herding cats

One of the things that always drives me insane is seeing people try to work out coherent chronology and continuity of the Mad Max series, and the thing that makes me crazier is when people push back on this by being like "it's a dumb movie about crazy driving and explosions! it doesn't NEED to make sense!" because in reality the lack of a defined chronology or continuity is a feature, not a bug, and the reason for it is not that the movies are too dumb to be held to that standard, it's that the movies are much smarter than anyone trying to Figure Them Out give them credit for

also mistborn? arcane style? do yall see the vision? Like make a short tester or something with emperors soul or an animated movie on like elantris or warbringer, see how it’s received and if it does well, cosmere adaptations left right and centre.
I don’t necessarily think the live action atla adaptation was terrible, there are parts I loved and parts I hate and I do love the cast, but I feel like this should be a wake up call to people that 1) not everything needs a live action adaptation 2)live action is not the superior medium, 3) some stories genuinely look and work better in animation. Stormlight fans I’m looking at you. An avatar style show / anime stormlight show would go so hard. a magic system like that would be wasted on live action.

siobhan o'leary gives us a brilliant deconstruction of transphobia, and transmisogyny specifically

Don’t take my word for it, I just ask that yall do your research for bombarding a 17 year old with hate that she may not deserve.

I'm saying this cause some people really need to hear it. Saying you don't like the show because you think it's an unpopular opinion that will make you sound edgy and better than everyone else is super lame.
The show isn't perfect but some of you are really out here hating on the show just for the sake of it. Aside from ep 6 I genuinely think all of the other episodes were well done. I would agree that it's a bit dialogue heavy but I think they were saving on the action so that they could build up to the Ares sword fight. And let's not forget that this is just the first season. I'm sure with the success of the show, season 2 will have an even bigger budget which will allow them to do cooler things. First seasons are always a bit rocky cause shows are still trying to find their footing. I have loved this story since I was a kid and I know it's not a 100% faithful adaptation but I think the show has a lot of potential. The characters are true to the books. The story beats are all there. And most importantly, you can tell that a lot of love and care went into making it. I know it's not what a lot of fans were expecting but if you go into the show wanting to hate it, all you're going to see are flaws. It's so funny to me how people who spent the past decade complaining about the movie are now singing its praises just so that they can talk shit about the show. Please put personal biases aside and give the show a fair shot. Constructive criticism is always appreciated but let's be reasonable with our takes.

Dawg they could make this show verbatim word for word from the book and people would still whinge and whine.
ME ADRESSING EVERY SINGLE COMPLAINT RIGHT NOW:
1. “Ohhhhh but Percy is blonde and Annabeth is-“ Nope. Don’t care. Child actors are HARD dawg. I’d take a green lizard if it could deliver lines like Walker, I’m not joking.
2. “Ahhhhh but the pacing is rough” Fair, fair. Pacing sucks butt. I’ll give you that one.
3. “The Lotus Casinoooooo” the Lotus Casino was fine. It was normal. It was normally creepy and weird. You watched the movie and conflated it with the book. The book is literally them playing games. The show is gonna modify that, no matter what. It ain’t a big deal.
4. “The spideeeerssss” Spiders up the rating (it adds horror elements). It’s also a show made for twelve year olds. Consider the possibility of arachnophobia.
5. “Hades wasn’t scaaaary” Dude was a fucking loser in the book too. He griped about cost and GDP to a twelve year old. The gods are supposed to be sort of emotionally pathetic.
6. “But how can they tell about the monstersssss” That one’s fifty fifty. It fucks up the exposition and pacing, but it’s also pretty on brand for what the show describes. Mythomagic is literally Pokémon for monsters. If I see a dude in yellow running a shop called Mr. P and all he does is hop and roll, I’m gonna be like “omg, Pikachu.”
7. “But random passing conversationnnnnnn” Oh, boooooo hoooo. Gripe and moan all you want, but what the show takes away in iconic lines from the book, it still delivers.
8. “Sally Jacksoooooon” This one I’m gonna give you a piece of my mind about. Sally Jackson in the book is idealized. She is an angel. Rick changed it to fit a much more complex and realistic narrative about single mothers and ND children. Dude, Percy is canonically hard to parent. In the show, we see his mom scraping together money and fighting tooth and nail just to get him a good school and a good life. Her parenting isn’t ideal, it’s accurate. Believe me I am the LAST person to excuse bad parenting. She doesn’t grab her son, she doesn’t hit him, she doesn’t yell at him. She’s tired, dude, and she’s frustrated.
My conclusion is the TV Show and the Book are two different ballgames. The book is heavily detailed, with slower pacing. It lacks certain depth in side characters and has some weak spots in the story.
The show is less detail oriented, with faster pacing. It lacks finesse, some accuracy, and generally steers away from heavy parts of the show.
Read the books, watch the show. Don’t read the show and watch the books. (Essentially don’t follow the show like a book, or follow the book like a fast paced show)
