Central to our seed keeping work is supporting urban and rural farms in deepening their food justice and food sovereignty work trough producing culturally important seeds for their communities and beyond. This photo (by VietLead at Resilient Roots Farm in #Camden, NJ) shows a tomato named after singer, actor, and outspoken civil rights advocate Paul Robeson. He performed and speakers out against racism, in support of the labor movement, and for peace. This variety was grown by the amazing food justice visionaries at Urban Tree Connection, just a couple miles from the historic Paul Robeson House where he spent his final years in West Philadelphia. As with all our varieties, half of each sale goes back to the amazing farmers. On top of all this, it’s a beautiful, smokey, and delicious tomato. While the Paul Robeson Tomato was bred in Moscow, it is featured in our African Diaspora Collection for its role in representing and teaching an important aspect of Black History in America.

Pretty, yes? Here’s an example of the Glass Gem corn I grew this year. I used pink kernels from a cob I grew last year. Voila! Lustrous corn with pink and pearly hues.
