Power of Parenting
We, human beings, want to raise happy and well-adjusted kids. But the constant baggage can make us feel lost on this journey. No one has taught us how to be a good father or a good mother, instead we’ve always heard that you will become a good parent once the responsibilities fall on your shoulders. This conflict often confuses us and leaves us scared of this overwhelming journey which needs to be explored and corrected by trial and error.
The concept of ‘Gentle Parenting’ has gained a lot of attention in recent years as it focuses on positive discipline to nurture the skills in parents and children respectively. It is an approach which fosters a safe and nurturing environment that provides consistent boundaries to the children’s emotional needs. This type of parenting cultivates social skills and emotional intelligence in children. Unlike traditional parenting, this parenting undermines the cause of misbehaviour and rather focuses on developing the skills to regulate their emotional needs.
Some characteristics of gentle parenting are as follows:
Acknowledgement and Support: Parents acknowledge and validate the feelings of their children. Children in such situations feels secure and heard by their parents. This creates a strong bond between the parents and children.
Setting boundaries: Although such parents provide ample opportunities to their kids that will help them to grow, it is equally important for them to also set clear and consistent boundaries that can foster a sense of autonomy and enable the children to make better decisions.
Connection: Gentle parenting builds a strong connection with the children and provides a safe space where children feel comfortable to express their emotions, which allows for open communication.
Diana Baumrind in the 1960s, had theorised three parenting styles i.e., Authoritative, Authoritarian and Indulgent. Later Maccoby and Martin had added one more to it which is neglectful parenting.
Authoritarian: Such parenting is restricting and demanding. Parents set rules and regulations and are very firm with their decisions. The parents who follow this style are not considerate about their child’s opinions or feelings and the child is expected to adhere to the rules and regulations without any questions. A big communication gap is seen in such a style as parents merely give the instructions to the child and do not expect to engage with them in a dialogue. Such children usually have low self-confidence and self-esteem.
Indulgent: This style is also called the permissive parenting style. Parents who follow this type of parenting do not enforce any rules to be followed. Instead, they over-indulge the child by solving their problems and provide them with everything they desire, even if the item is not required. Such children lack social skills and problem-solving skills and are less motivated to do any task.
Authoritative: Such parents are not very demanding and rewarding. They provide clear expectations, warmth and maintain open communication with their children. They allow their children to grow and offer support and guidance whenever and wherever it is required. Such children have high level of confidence and self-esteem, and low levels of behavioural issues.
Neglectful: This is also called uninvolved parenting style as the parents lack responsiveness and are less involved in the child’s life. Parents do provide the basic needs to the child but fail to provide the emotional support and guidance to them. This leads to emotional distress, insecurity and other mental health issues.
Parenting style adopted by the parents for their children plays an important role on the child’s development including the physiological development. Parents must show unconditional regard, warmth, open communication and respect to their child’s opinion. They must give choices to the children rather than giving orders. They must place their kids in situations where they can learn and use their own potential to overcome challenges. Thus, parents can use the following strategies to introduce such positive discipline at their home:
Identify the root cause of the behaviour: The way the children are expressing their emotions won’t be same every time. In some situations, you will find them angry or frustrated, in others you may find them irritating. As a parent, you must focus on what has led the child to behave in this manner. At that time, actively listen to them and validate their emotions and identify the events that has caused these actions.
Follow up: Communicating your expectations and setting clear goals are very important as a parent, so that your children are aware about their actions and the consequences of said actions. Build trust and constantly check with your kids if they are okay or not.
Time out: There are times when you as a parent are overwhelmed with all the things that are going on. So, it’s important to take a time out, as this will help you to maintain your calmness and focus on yourself. As a parent’s mental health is equally important to a child’s.

The Impact of Digital Detox on Student Well-Being
As screens have become a common element of everyday life, digital detox has gained more interest as a measure against the negative outcomes of screen exposure. It is evident that students are constantly enclosed within an online space, immersed in academic expectations, social relations, and various online activities; this article discusses the advantages of digital detox for students’ well-being and how it can become a means to transition from the virtual life to real life. Instant communication on SMS, WhatsApp and other social networking sites, for instance, negatively affects the level of well-being as it is directly linked to clinical symptoms such as depression. Some prescriptive interventions have been offered for the use of smartphones keeping in mind the negative effects on well-being or social relations. A digital detox can therefore be described as a short break from the use of electronics, especially smartphones. These breaks can either be partial or full. However, up to the present time, it is not apparent whether the studied digital detox interventions are sustainable in creating a healthy way of life in the digital milieu.
The digital age is characterised by enhanced convenience and an abundance of information particularly in teaching. However, it has also raised concerns on the impact it has on students’ well-being in general. From persistent notifications that appear every few minutes and seconds, to the pressure of constantly being active online with easily accessible information, the use of smartphones has worsened stress and anxiety and severely impacted the overall sense of being of students leaving them on edge all the time.
With academics and social engagements in today’s world becoming more computerised and technological, with time one begins to wonder when we will get the time to step away from the computer screen. Temporarily removing digital devices or abstaining from using them can help a student’s brain to rest from the digital onslaught. In this manner, they can cultivate a healthy relationship with their devices which by extension will boost their wellbeing.
The Advantages of Going for a Digital Detox
Improved Concentration: With fewer distractions from notifications of your social media platforms, you will be able to concentrate more on your books.
Enhanced Academic Performance: It can result in better grades, as it fosters remarkable focus and enhances the ability to assimilate information more effectively. Reduced Anxiety and Stress: Reducing the time spent in front of a screen is advisable as it is known to reduce the levels of stress and anxiety especially at night.
More Meaningful Social Interactions: Some people can engage more deeply in their hobbies, while a digital detox motivates parents to spend more quality time with their children. Increased Awareness and Mindfulness: It enables you to focus on the present and take pleasure in the surrounding environment by cutting down your time on devices.
Step-by-Step Plan for Adopting a Digital Detox Life
Step 1: The role of acknowledgement and assessment is to consider the organisation’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats about virus transmission. Start with evaluation which digital distractions interlope your existence. Assess your digital habits: What percentage of your day is the smartphone and computer receiving your attention? Which apps do you frequently spend your time on? As with any problem addressal, the starting point for change is to know and understand that there is an issue, and in recent years awareness of one's digital footprint has significantly increased.
Step 2: Fix your objectives. The goals you set should be crystal clear to you. You must always think about the purpose you intend to set for the process of digital detoxing. Is it to get better grades, get better sleep, or have more time for yourself and your loves ones? Everyone needs goals that will help to regulate and shape their detox programme. Step3: Gradually reduce your screen time. Start Small, however, if the notion of going offline proves too daunting, it is best to ease into it by gradually cutting down on the amount of time spent on the screen. Use apps to monitor usage. For instance, you can use Screen Time, a feature available for iPhones and iPads or the Digital Wellbeing feature on Android phones.
Step 4: Create Tech-Free Zones: Design zones of your living space that are ‘technology-free’, particularly the bedrooms or the study zone. Develop defined instances in the day when you avoid the use of digital devices such as during breakfast or while eating. Step5: Engage in Offline Activities: Eliminate most of your time spent with media products and instead fill your time with things that don’t include the use of media products. Consider physical exercise and get signed up for the school’s athletics teams, go jogging, or do yoga. Inculcate Hobbies including reading printed books, cooking or any activity that doesn’t imply screen use. Get personal/face-to-face with friends and family members instead of constantly communicating with them through the phone or via the internet.
Step 7: Practice mindfulness and meditation: It is recommended to engage in mindfulness exercises on a regular basis for the purpose of improving your ability to pay attention and decreasing the compulsive need to glance at your devices. Step 8: Regularly assess your progress. How performant are you? What problems are you experiencing? In order to make the plan more suitable to your lifestyle and fulfil you purpose, the plan must be modified.
Foster a Balanced Digital Life🌱
Contrary to considering a digital detox as the act of eradicating all digital devices from one’s existence, it seeks to achieve an optimal use of the gadgets for the benefit of the users. Always bear in mind that the aim here is to moderate your online behaviour and not the other way round.

Ragging and its Psychological Impact
How do feel when you are starting something new- may be your college, school, career, workplace etc.? What makes you feel comfortable at that place?
I am sure, that would be a safe space where people are providing you with the supportive or healthy environment. A place where your colleagues/ co-workers/ seniors/ fellow-mates are providing a trustworthy atmosphere. What if they rag you every time? Would you like to go back to the same space? I am sure, the answer would be No.
Ragging is a demeaning and cruel activity where fellow-mates or senior students bully or harass new students, causing traumatic experiences. This concept is not something which is very new to modern era, but ragging has deep historical roots and remain prevalent in educational institutes worldwide. Ragging is manifested in various form such as psychological abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse and even emotional abuse which creates a hostile environment for students. Film industry has even used ragging as a narrative device to make the public understand about the brutal practices that takes place at the educational institutions. Movie like 3 idiots- where ragging concept was shown in an impactful manner. The movie started with the character of Farhan Qureshi who has introduced about his college life with Raju Rastogi and Rancho. He was nervous and eager to start his college life. However, the seniors of Imperial College of Engineering had different plans and the juniors were subjected to ragging. On the first night of the college life, all the juniors were humiliated by their seniors to strip down their underwear. Rancho’s refusal to this act had set the strong message against ragging. The movie has set the grounds not only on the unethical practices running in India, but also on the supportive academic environment where students help each other to grow rather than tearing each other down.
Now, if we explore on the deep rooted psychological impact of ragging on students. It has been found that 10% of the students have reported experiencing long lasting impact of ragging on the emotional disturbances and 50% student have reported experiencing emotional distress temporarily. Further a study by BJ Medical College has reported that 68% of the medical students have found ragging to be a significant source of stress and anxiety. In addition to this, students may develop PTSD, anxiety, depression and may even end up losing their life due to ragging. There may be a possibilities that victim may become perpetrators and cycle of violence and abuse is repeated which leads to emotional distress and harm not only self but also to the community. When individual is not provided that safe environment in the organization than it leads to the increase in the dropout rates and decreased focus in academics. Continuous humiliation and negative criticism creates a hostile environment for the students to survive in the community and this in turn leads them to doubt their own potential and capabilities. This diminished self-worth and esteem creates a significant log lasting impact on their well-being both personally and professionally. The stress and emotional turmoil caused due to ragging also leads to exacerbating various mental health issues such as social withdrawal. Because of the constant humiliation and bullying, the victims are not able to trust the world around, and hence, leads to isolation and loneliness. In extreme cases, the psychological disturbances provoke the students to end up their life.
To regulate this toxic culture, The NorthCap University, Gurugram follows the Zero Tolerance Policy where we enforces mandatory reporting and stricter punishment is provided to the students  or individuals to deter the ragging incidents. We have the entire committee 9 members of the Anti Ragging Committee. Our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Madam, Prof. Dr. Nupur Prakash is the Chairperson of Anti ragging committee, and is available round the clock. Further, The NorthCap University has established “Student Service Center” to ensure that students are provided both mental health and physical health services to cope with their anxiety, depression and other mental health issues effectively. The university mentors, faculties and in-house psychologists provide a culture of transparency and open door policy where the students feel comfortable discussing about their personal to professional issues.
Call to Action: I, alone cannot bring difference to the community. Together, we all can create and re-create the possibilities so that we are able to provide a safe environment to all. We must stand together for each other and need to take proactive measures to provide a safe space to those who are affected. We must protect the students from unhealthy consequences of ragging and create a supportive and inclusive community for them which is free from all the biasis.

Exploring the Diverse Landscape of Legal Practice: From Criminal Law to Human Rights
1. Introduction:
Often perceived as a rigid concept dominated by statutes, precedents, and courtroom dramas, the legal field is, in reality, an active mosaic of various specialties, each with its own set of difficulties, challenges, and prospects. From criminal justice to intellectual property, environmental law to human rights, the legal field is rich with diverse paths for study and specialization. The object of the blog is to illuminate the multifaceted nature of law, emphasizing the consequence of delving into its many different extents.
2. Exploring Legal Specializations
2.1. Criminal Law:
Criminal law is one of the most well-known aspects of legal practice, which is often shown in popular media through dramatic court cases and intense investigations. In its simplest form, criminal law describes how society handles illegal acts such as theft or assault as well as complex matters like white collar crimes and cybercrimes. Those involved with this field are key to providing justice and ensuring fairness to both victims and offenders within the legal system.
2.2 Civil Law
In contrast to criminal law, civil law addresses disputes between individuals or organizations; it encompasses a wide range of topics including contracts, property issues and family matters. Typical modes of resolving civil disputes involve negotiation, mediation or litigation in the civil courts. Lawyers practising in this area require detailed knowledge of legal principles coupled with meticulous attention to detail so that they can effectively present their clients’ interests and seek redress for wrongs done unto them.
2.3 Corporate Law
Corporate law comprises rules governing business activities and commercial transactions such as corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, securities regulation etc. It is the obligation of corporate lawyers to help businesses navigate complicated systems while adhering to laws and making strategic choices for their benefit. As globalization and economic complexities increase, corporate lawyers play a crucial role in managing transactions and mitigating risks.
2.4. Intellectual Property Law:
In the knowledge-based economy of today, intellectual property (IP) law is vital to protect creations such as inventions, artistic works and trademarks. Attorneys for patents obtain patents for innovations and lawyers on copyright guard creators’ rights in an digital age. Technology law intersects with IP law and concerns issues like blockchain and artificial intelligence that are emerging presenting new challenges to practitioners.
2.5 Environmental Law:
Environmental law has become a significant area of legal practice due to ongoing apprehensions about climate change and environmental degradation. They work towards preserving natural resources, controlling pollution, overseeing environmental regulations and advising businesses on sustainable practices among other things. Their roles range from representing conservation groups to advising businesses on sustainable practices with the aim of keeping the environment safe for posterity.
2.6. Human Rights Law:
Human rights law is based on the principles of dignity, equality and justice that serve as a global defense against tyranny. Human rights attorneys are committed to the protection of basic liberties and fighting problems such as prejudice, torture and refugee’s rights. Thus, their role is important in promoting social equity at an international level whether it be through litigation within international tribunals or through lobbying for legislative change.
Conclusion:
With criminal law, intellectual property, environmental law, human rights and so many other areas of specialization in the legal profession. In each one of these territories there is both a challenge and opportunity for impact-driven people. Adapting to this range assists aspiring legal professionals in focusing on their own unique niches where they can make significant contributions or create positive effects. Given recent advances in society and technology, the future development of the legal field requires highly skilled lawyers who will offer specialized services in diverse fields. The diverse areas can be explored by the students in their five years of their journey in law school and ultimately, they can see which field of law is more suitable for them and accordingly choose their career path. In today’s era with cut-throat competition, it is very much pertinent for a law student to be well equipped with great legal knowledge along with the ability to apply the law to a legal problem or issue at hand.
This is what arms students with more knowledge and improves their ability to approach a given legal issue. This gives an extra mileage over others and thus it improves employability.  Completing a Master of Law goes beyond the undergraduate level of knowledge and allows individuals to emphasize their commitment and knowledge of the law. This is particularly important in the highly competitive field and helps to increase individuals’ employability. It also offers immense networking opportunities through the university’s careers centre, law societies, and visiting representatives from different firms. While studying, one can also take advantage of internship opportunities open to graduates to gain experience in the industry and develop important legal skills.

Preparing For Practice: The Significance of General Proficiency In Legal Education
Introduction
The importance of the General Proficiency (hereafter called GP) plays an important role in shaping the legal profession. Through general proficiency the future lawyers develop critical thinking, problem solving skills and ethical reasoning. This course ensures that law students are not only well-informed and educated but also fortified to apply their skills effectively in assorted and dynamic environments. Hence, General Proficiency serves as a critical module of this preparation, providing students with the indispensable skills they need to thrive in an extremely competitive and dynamic arena.
General Proficiency Assisting in Enhances Communication Skills
GP subject underscores the growth of both written and verbal communication skills. Through trainings in public speaking, legal writing and client communication, pupils learn to coherent their thoughts with care and confidence. This is particularly important in the legal profession, where the ability to present a compelling argument can make the difference between winning and losing a case. Moreover, strong communication skills enable lawyers to build trust with clients, colleagues, and the judiciary, which is critical for successful legal profession. There are some skill-sets that are generally perceived to be sufficient for lawyers until this date. These include the ability to analyse and address specifics, logical reasoning, articulateness, the quality to reach a sound judgment and also, an ability to express and/ or write properly. The legal profession happens to be more concerned with the actual skill: a ready proficiency or applied ability that has been acquired and developed through years of training and experience. One’s degree of disposition, attentiveness and intellect are inherent characteristics; skills on the other hand, are what one acquires through the application of all these. Hence, the inference may stand as: if you adequately possess most of these skills, you should be fully qualified to practice the Law.
General Proficiency at Higher Educational Institutions
General Proficiency at higher educational institutions plays a vital role in determining experienced law graduates furnished with the skills required to shine in numerous professional arenas. In a rapidly changing world, where employers increasingly value adaptability and interpersonal skills, General Proficiency courses provide law students with the tools to navigate complex social and professional landscapes. By integrating these competencies into the educational experience, top law colleges in Gurgaon prepare students not only to succeed in their chosen careers but also to contribute meaningfully to society. The importance of GP ensures that graduates are not just knowledgeable in their fields of study but are also capable of applying that knowledge effectively in diverse and dynamic environments.
The practice of the Law is a pragmatic profession. The Best law university gurgaon have traditionally sort of a curriculum that included practical training like faculty-guided visits to Courts at every level of hierarchy and observing courtroom proceedings that would assist trainee students to understand and obtain the necessary practical knowledge on how the legal system works. Nowadays, most of them have also come up with Moot Courts as a compulsory paper/ subject within their respective course curricula. It has been felt that proficiency of individual students could be different; these could be discovered only when they are made to undergo an assessment process that is tailor-made to identify them. These may not apparently always seem as significant or necessary for the legal profession. However, if nurtured further, systematically, these could be propelled into becoming as much relevant in Law as they could have been for something else. After all, certain traits like theatrics, verbal power or extempore skills, for example, should always be helpful for a lawyer while presenting a case beyond the case drafts. In the process, a genuine talent that a trainee student already possesses within himself/ herself, could be made full use of to pursue his/ her career goals.
Looking into the future, thus, the School of Law, The NorthCap University, has introduced a course on General Proficiency for its undergraduate students that may help them acquire the skill-sets required to practice the Law more competently, effectively and competitively. The course is an assessment-cum-training programme for students to prepare them for tomorrow’s market challenges. How conversant is s/he with the English language, his/ her general awareness, how strong his /her legal and logical reasoning is, or how much is s/he at ease during any Group Discussion (GD), etc. are some of the parametric skills upon which the students are individually assessed at the School of Law. His/ her association with any cultural, sports or other outreach activities is also duly noted, to underscore his/her flair for involving himself/herself in any collective action. This essentially identifies the strengths and weaknesses of each student individually, that eventually helps him/ her in acquiring and using these core skills, that have increasingly become a must for future lawyers to make a living in the 21st century. It is a fact, nevertheless, that not every law school or institution teaches them; neither does every governing body or academic council acknowledge their necessity. Although, it stands to be a fact that the leading ones amongst the law firms immediately prefer those few that are experts in them.
Conclusion
Excuses or compromises are never encouraged while building the future of our students as promising, budding lawyers. Therefore, it is no wonder that we, at the School of Law in The NorthCap University, which is one of the best law colleges in Gurgaon have introduced “General Proficiency” as a full-fledged course in our curricula to serve all of these bundled together to meet this entire purpose, holistically. This course is offered in the entire 5 year BBA.LL. B and 3 year LL.B prgoramme.  Hence, General proficiency is to train our students with crucial skills that accompaniment their academic knowledge, therefore enable them to succeed in both professional and personal settings.
