Red Fraggle character study of sorts/redkey ramble because I'm insane about them

VERY unorganized thoughts below I just copied and pasted most of this from discord lmao

I love cave of ones own so fucking much not just for the obvious reasons but it's one of those episodes that highlight how much Red and Mokey's relationship means to each other and how far they'd go to maintain that bond/make sure the other likes them. Especially with Red and I think IWBY (I wanna be you) and ACOOO (A cave of ones own) tie in with each other in terms of her arc. Like at first she's trying to be like Mokey because she genuinely believes Mokey is a lot more likeable than her and therefore if she wants others to like her then she needs to be as good as Mokey. Not better than her, but good enough. Then it kinda shifts to her agreeing with everything Mokey likes/does not only because she thinks it'll make her as good as Mokey but also she wants Mokey's approval specifically. She might love the attention she might want others to like her but she especially wants Mokey to like her as she loves her.

The whole exchange in the end of ACOOO really gets me because the way Red words things ("Why do I always have to agree with everything you like?"/"Then what do you want??") makes it sound like Mokey wants this for her because she's fully convinced herself at this point that acting like her and agreeing with everything she likes is the only way Mokey will ever love her. It's not until Mokey is literally shaking Red telling her ("I don't want you to be like me!"/"I want you to be like you; you is what I like about you!!!!") that really hammered it into Red that Oh. Mokey does love her for her just as she loves Mokey for her. AND ITS SOOOOOOO IMPORTANT to Red's character because she'll do ANYTHING for people to like her because she believes people don't generally like her and she only really realizes this is NOT the case when she's actively told to her face that yes, people love her; more specifically Mokey loves her for who she is.

Mokey's great for Red because she's someone who Red will allow herself to be vulnerable and open with cause she feels safe and comforted in her presence AND Mokey just balances her out by also being an anchor to bring her back to reality whenever she needs it.

I think this insecurity that people don't like her ties in with her disdain for Uncle Matt since he's generally loved by everyone in the rock (and as a result so is Gobo) and how everyone will believe what Matt says about outer space because he said it and that gets on her nerves. You know the episode where no one believes Red when she tells them theres a sea monster living in the rock? I think she knows that if Matt or hell, even Gobo were the ones who said they saw a sea monster then everyone would believe them. And it hurts. So whenever Gobo comes to them with a new postcard Red is quick to brush it off as fiction because thats how people think of her adventures and discoveries usually.

Another reason why she's so annoyed with Matt often I think is how unwilling he is to admit when he's wrong or scared. She's pissed with him because he wouldn't admit that he got scared and even Gobo's upset at him for it. I think a part of it could be because she sees herself in these traits of his. How he acts like he's not scared or twisting the story to make it sound like he knew what he was doing and what he was doing was the right way. The best part is that some of these traits can ALSO be applied to Gobo as he's also shown to be afraid of admitting when he's wrong/scared (Push it down/Fraggle up is a great example of this mindset. Additionally Afraid to be afraid and Red's verse in Wind will guide are examples of showing a similar mindset in her).

What I love is despite all that Red does in fact like Gobo. She butts heads with him the most and gets annoyed with him very often throughout both the og and reboot but she doesn't truly hate him. I could draw quite a few parallels between them and I likely unintentionally have already with this ramble but oughhh their friendship is just so interesting to me. I think Gobo likes Red a lot too it's just these two are way too stubborn to admit that out loud.
