In the spirit of take a penny leave a penny, I'll toss a hat in the ring for a series of playlists I really enjoyed.

(also side note I didn't actually *make* the Violet playlist, I just found it and wrote it down and then the original poster deleted it so I reposted it)

When I was first getting into Ducktales I stumbled upon a little site called 8tracks.

I just now found out that the entire site is actually gone forever sadly, so it's a dang miracle I kept a list of these before that happened.

I really want to give credit to @localscissors who created these playlists, because frankly it helped strengthen my connection with these characters and their arcs.

Side note, there's plenty of songs that were actually covers in the real playlist but those aren't on Spotify. Every now and then there'd be a song that just doesn't exist on Spotify. So it's not a perfect recreation. But it gets the job done.

And if the local scissors in question sees this (inactive since 2020 sadly), I want them to know how much I enjoyed these playlists. These and the aforementioned Violet playlist were basically my entire 2022 top songs list.

Lieutenant Penumbra

Look at them. They are both skating with space themes in the background.

For those outside of the know, Shadow skates instead of running because he has jet shoes or something. It's because skating is cooler.

Goldie O'Gilt

I am cheating. Goldie is actually Rouge in this scenario.

Renowned treasure hunter slash jewel thief with a sort of flirty but also serious but never quite committal relationship with the guy and they act like they're too good for each other but they're actually really not.

Oh god all the shippers are going to be all over me. This is not a ship post. Please don't put in the paper that it's a ship post.

Tier 3: Loose characteristics

Mrs. Beakley

Welcome to the true stretches. First off, Mrs. Beakley, whose secret spy life and martial arts prowess are well documented.

Shadow, pictured here roundhouse kicking Silver the Hedgehog, isn't short on combat technique as well.

He also worked as an agent for G.U.N. (long story, even longer if you have continuity concerns), so you can link that to Beakley's S.H.U.S.H. time even though the organizations really only share the fact that there are dots and capital letters. But shush about all that. Let me have this.

Black Heron & Gandra Dee

The explanation for this is just that they both have robot-like stuff going on. And as established, the whole android clones thing.

One of the too many endings of Shadow '05 is that Shadow is actually an android and takes over the world with his clone army, I think? There's like 300 endings. You can't prove me wrong.

Mrs. Quackfaster

This is literally just the sword. Nothing else connects these characters whatsoever. Fight me. I have two characters with swords. Where's your sword? That's what I thought.

Welcome to part 2.

Tier 2: There are some parallels

Webby Vanderquack

Putting Webby at the top of the post for the algorithm. /s

This one ventures more into Webby headcanon, but stay with me here.

Shadow's character revolves around his best friend Maria, who was killed on the ARK when the government came in and shut it down. Their final moments together are generally referred to as "Maria's wish," urging Shadow to protect the world and give everyone a chance to be happy.

This wish is misconstrued at first as Shadow's brain ain't quite working, and he thinks she wanted her to enact revenge (see above), but he realizes at the end what she wanted all along and begins working for good.

To me, the parallels really come from the Shadow Generations story, where a time void puts modern Shadow in a scenario with a living past version of Maria. The game essentially speed runs Shadow's major arcs, but it hits the same point where Maria's wish serves as a guiding light for Shadow.

On the contrary, Lena did come back mid season 2. I categorized this as headcanon because we never really see her grief, but I tend to feel she moves forward after Lena's death with an aim to do good, inspired by Lena's sacrifice despite being revealed as a double agent all along.

You could call this a stretch. But if you think this is bad, keep reading because it gets better.

Gosalyn Waddlemeyer

The meme answer is that Gosalyn has a gun and a motorcycle.

There's a Shadow character I haven't mentioned, Prof. Gerald Robotnik (Dr. Eggman's grandfather, and Maria's grandfather). He is the scientist who creates Shadow and serves as sort of a loose mentor role, as close to a father as Shadow ever had.

Gosalyn's yet unresolved arc is centered around the fate of her own grandfather, who invented the RAMROD. As of now and perhaps forever, that will remain unresolved. But she has a found family that has taken her in to help her move forward as well.

I feel like that familial relationship, even if entirely offscreen in the latter case, is an important link. DWD '91 fans certainly know how important her grandpa is to Gosalyn if they've seen the pilot.

May and June Duck

I think Shadow '05 establishes the android clones thing? Anyway, not super relevant.

May and June were created explicitly for evil. While their time in the series is short, they get a speedran arc about taking life into their own hands, ending with a resolution to carve out their own paths and find their own purpose in life.

That self-determination aspect is important in Shadow's arc. The belovedly panned Shadow '05 game literally exists in a choose-your-own-adventure format where you decide how Shadow decides to interpret his past and follow his future.

The quick redemption arc isn't particularly unique to May and June, but their decision to help Donald and the family save Scrooge turns the tide towards victory. Good for them.

Alright here we go. Ranking Ducktales women by how Shadow-coded they are.

Not all the lore descriptions will be 100% accurate as I'm a bit fuzzy, especially on my Sonic lore. Also, not everything is meant to be taken seriously. Some of these are just for funny fun.

Tier 1: Literally Shadow

Lena Sabrewing

Shadow's backstory largely lines up with Lena's. I mean, she was literally a shadow at one point. Need I say much more?... Okay fine I will.

Shadow was created using DNA from an alien, who intended to use him to take over the world or something. This parallels with Lena's origins as Magica's vessel more or less during season 1. Both were somewhat tempted to go through with teaming up with the villain, but (canonically) stood up and defeated them when they realized what they were being used for was wrong.

Also both of them died and came back. That's probably important to mention. Plus the super forms as well.

Della Duck

Shadow was created on a space colony, spending his early life on the ship watching over the Earth, learning as much as he could about life from his best friend Maria (not pictured).

After the government shut down the ARK, he was captured and spent 50 years in hibernation before being awoken by Dr. Eggman to set the plot of Sonic Adventure 2 in motion.

The space parallels are obvious, but another thing I want to highlight is how both he and Della are people out of time, having been displaced temporally and spending much of their post-Earth arcs finding their place in a life after this dramatic shift.

Magica De Spell

I know I just compared Magica to Black Doom in the Lena section, but this connection is based on dark story Shadow, who had just been revived after 50 years held in suspended animation.

Immediately, he enacts a revenge plan. You could stretch this to include Poe and Maria as foils, but their relationships are certainly different here. Also, Magica never really reforms, living long enough to see herself become a villain (in this scenario... she was always the villain in DT17).

What do you think is the most outdated reference(s) that Della Duck still unironically uses today!

Do you think she still answers the phone by going “Wasssssssuuuupppp!?” or say hilarious things like “Shagadelic baby, yeah!”

I think it’s safe to assume that she left Earth in the year 2007 so anything during that year and before would be extremely outdated nowadays

Also I like to extend this question to any outdated technology she still uses. For example, I like to think she has her Gameboy on her at all times
