We just can't stop saying hello. NYC Beer Week!
It is SO GOOD TO BE BACK. We know we’re still in this crazy ‘COVID dance’ these days, but the Opening Bash of NYC Beer Week started as a nice hello or two and ended as a true reunion. New York City breweries are killing it in a big way these days, and drinking local in NYC has never been more important. Click on to see some a few old friends that we were so happy to spend a few moments with. Cheers!
Festival report: We're BACK! Gun Hill Barrel Aged 2022!
Rising from the mess of Omicron, Beer Fests are BACK, baby! In the run-up to the Opening Bash for NYC Beer Week (Saturday February 26th!) we give you this report from the Gun Hill Brewing Barrel Aged fest back in January. Enjoy!
Looking back on 2021. Bite me.
It’s been a tough year for all of us; but thanks to many good folks around the country, it was still memorable. So here’s our FOURTEENTH Year End episode, with great thanks to Gun Hill, Torch & Crown, Rocket Frog, DUBCO, St. James, and at least 70 other breweries who chose to brew the Curtain Up Beer and raise money for good folk who’ve taken it on the chin throughout the COVID19 pandemic.
And DO NOT MISS Gun Hill Brewing’s BARREL AGED BEER FEST coming up on January 15th, 2022! Plenty to look forward to!
The fight isn’t over. Join us in 2022, and let’s keep this ball rolling.
We’ll be here for you all. CHEERS!
Manhattan's Brewery: Torch and Crown!
Join Mark and Jimmy as they REJOICE: There's a production brewery in Manhattan once again! Torch and Crown is a short subway ride from just about anywhere (okay Staten Island, we hear you) and it's truly fantastic. And they're brewing the Curtain Up Beer to boot!
And speaking of the Curtain Up Beer, Torch and Crown has just released their version, and we’ll be heading there for a super fun Happy Hour on Monday September 29th. 5-8pm, with lots of super deals and fun. Who’s coming? We’ll be there and the cameras will be rolling!
A visit with Rocket Frog!
One apocryphal night, a frog took to the air… at the same time as a flame spewing rocket.
And a brewery was born.
Mark and Jimmy spend a few minutes with Co-Owner Richard Hartogs of Rocket Frog Brewing in Sterling, VA - we’ll ask about their multi GABF award winning beers, and ask what’s next for them. Join us!
Curtain Up on the road... to Long Island!
Now that Curtain Up is being brewed and released across the country, time to go out and meet some of the great folks doing this important work. Let's head out to DUBCO and St. James!
Curtain Up Beer in depth, first canning! Join us.
What is the Curtain Up Project?
What is the Curtain Up Beer?
Where was it first canned? Who made the recipe?
We’ve got you. Click, watch, and join us!
Looking back on- NEVER MIND, let's look forward to 2021!
Our THIRTEENTH (yup, of course that's the number, because 2020!) Year End Episode looks back at how we approached, then navigated lockdown, and most importantly, how came to the realization that the Curtain Up Beer was THE way to finish the Broadway Six Pack, and take us in to 2021. Cheers!

The Curtain Up Beer!
We're back, in person, (distanced) at Sloop Brewing!
At long last Mark and Jimmy do an episode together IN PERSON for the first time since the pandemic, (at least 6 feet apart the entire time). And what a return, as we hang out with our pals at Sloop Brewing in East Fishkill, NY. The Hudson Valley is flowing with amazing craft beer, and at the very source of the juicy IPA spring is their flagship brew, Juice Bomb. Join us!
At Home On The Road: The Alpha MI Brewing Company.
Jimmy returns to his old stomping grounds in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan for the first time in over 35 years... and there's a brewery in Alpha! Deep in the heart of Mastadon Township in Iron County, well down the road from Crystal Falls, the tiny village of Alpha, Michigan, is far and away the smallest village in the entire United States with its own craft brewery.
How could we NOT cover these fine folk? Enjoy.
COVID conversation: Heading to Iowa, and Wise I Brewing!
One of the greatest ways for us to discover new places has always been through a shared love of great flavor and innovation. To that end, it's our great pleasure to introduce Happy Hour Nation to Wise I Brewing in Le Mars, Iowa!
COVID Conversation: Squigs is here!
We check in on our best and brightest these days, and Squigs, Happy Hour Guy, incredible-palate and Broadway Line Artist Extraordinaire, stops in for a chat. What are we all drinking? Can you still get a commission from Squigs? And most importantly, are we all wearing pants? Join us.
COVID Conversation #5: Loycent Gordon, and Neir's Tavern!
Our COVID conversation series continues with this powerful conversation with the man who singlehandedly lead the charge to save NYC's oldest bar (by some accounts). Loy Gordon is an amazing human being whose ability to speak his truth inspired a movement, and continues to inspire. Click through and enjoy. This one is a don't miss.
COVID Convo #3: Gun Hill Brewing.
Time to start checking in on some of our favorite breweries, to see how they're handling the fallout from the COVID19 pandemic. Dave Lopez, co-Owner of Gun Hill Brewing in the Bronx, takes some zoom time away from his newborn daughter Darcy to answer our questions. And, Jimmy gets a beer delivery! Join us.
COVID Convo #2: Julia Herz of the Brewers Association!
As the shutdown continues and communities (and especially BEER communities) look toward reopening, changing, and surviving, Mark and Jimmy welcome a treasured guest to the show - Julia Herz, the Craft Beer Program Director at the Brewer's Association, a national nonprofit trade group that represent the majority of craft brewers in the United States. How does she see the Craft Beer landscape changing? What kind of world are we headed for? Press play and let's chat.
COVID convo #1: Ohio, and Scotty's here!
In the face of an incredibly changed world, The Happy Hour Guys keep on keepin' on. Time for some COVID conversations!
We start with a reunion of our 'Original Three' Happy Hour Guys, and a look back to simpler days. Also there’s an update on where everybody is, and some fine brews being made in the Midwest including Seventh Sun Brewing in Columbus, OH.
Let’s zoom it up, y'all - Scotty's here!
Alewife Brewpub: Let's ketchup, six feet apart.
Catch up? Ketchup? There’s a word for it around somewhere….
And why ALEWIFE?
In these times, why show video of gathering to drink absolutely terrific beer? Because, during these days of social distancing, it has perhaps NEVER been more important to support our Local, and our Local Craft friends. Many still offer curbside pickup; if your state allows it, order online and have it delivered; but our friends need us more than ever.
See you at Alewife!
