Overall Reflection
A roller coaster of a semester with the country in lockdown, a 4 week break from all uni work, new rules and laws. Feels like it has taken forever to get to this point, where I am writing my reflection. The Covid stuff saw this paper brief get changed just as we were starting to learn in a photography studio. Super glad the paper for this adapted so well and provided us with enough room to achieve a paper under duress and times of change. Oscar and I saw ourselves as a pair for this task straight away, we were excited from the get go. We kept that motivation throughout, maintaining contact via messenger and seeing each-other at least once a week. We have a dynamic relationship that sees us adding to one another’s ideas, creations providing the final pieces and ideas with a labour of love and devotion. As a pair of Pākehā young adults that haven’t ever fully taken the time to delve into issues that are right in our faces but don’t affect us, we saw this paper as an opportunity to learn and educate ourselves on issues here in the city we live in. Ethically we knew in some areas we might be walking on thin ice, so we knew from the outset we had to make sure we were ethically sound. By that I mean we knew we had to get context for everything and take time to actually read and learn instead of taking photos, using words, etc that we didn’t understand fully. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about everything we touched upon in @Kākāriki_comments as well as this tumblr. It has been the perfect time to take on this project as we feel the world is changing right now, the BLM protests starting up again worldwide, allowing the opportunity for us to take our learnings and try to help those around us, starting with our Whanau and friends. I know personally I have already been actively telling friends and family about what I have learnt. Overall this paper allowed me to do exactly what I needed, change. My outlook on things in Auckland and New Zealand as well as the world has changed In these 6 weeks dramatically. Could not of asked for a better friend and person to take on this learning and creating with. The collaboration has been a major success, we are both super happy with the final visual elements, supporting copywriting and the overall concept. We will take these learnings forward and continue learning and educating in our coming years.

Final look on how Instagram looks. I think it looks pretty cohesive with style and colours. Clear theme running throughout.

Copywriting for Captions
As we have really put a lot of effort into fully understanding and learning the social issues in Auckland today, we decided that the copywriting for the posts will be just as important as the supporting images. Dividing the paragraphs out for us to write individually, then carrying out the tasks with each of us reviewing and making necessary changes.

After discussing with Oscar about the idea that the Kākāriki head dissolves in 3 posts to reveal the persona who has been hiding behind it. However there is no head. No head because the Kākāriki is everyone. It is everyones responsibility to learn and educate themselves to do better for our future generations. We brought all these issues on, indirectly or not, it is only us who can pave way for change.

Creating another image using the feather pattern to make it 3 posts with no Kākāriki. Leading up-to our final posts in this instalment.

Taking onboard Oscars comments and creating a sort of angelic picture of our persona. This would make the second post using the feather pattern, so it makes sense to maybe do 3. As the instagram format shows 3 posts in grid system

A failure of an effort to see if I could make a photo look like it is through the eyes of the kākāriki.

Keeping constant communication through the editing times allows us to make changes necessary and get the best out of what we are trying to achieve.

An idea for a post to take up the real estate of three photos across the instagram feed.

Overlayed variations. As a pair we both liked the gold grain that. We think it helps the post tie into the theme more.

Variations of the Blm post where we didn't want the post to include or be dominated with our persona
