Griz and Baby Griz 😸😿 (+ some rambling about Grizabella under the cut)

I like to imagine that even after being reborn, Jellicles still hold onto certain parts of their past lives while being cleansed of the things they were burdened by (ex. Demeter would be reborn as a protective and cautious cat, free from the constant fear of Macavity attacking. The Everlasting Cat is a generous beast); and as such, Grizabella would come back as a glamorous and worldly cat who loves to wander, while also recognizing that she can always find her heart back with the Jellicles. The rest of the clan would take extra care to make sure that Grizabella didn’t get swept up in whatever it was that initially drove her away from them (I’ve yet to decide what I believe that was), while also working their hardest to prove to her that she is now truly loved. Some of the cats maybe act a little guilty around her after her rebirth, though she can never seem to figure out why

Your mind does the conjuring turns (I’m hip with the Cats fandom, I know the lingo!!! 😎😼) I appreciate your giggles!!!!! Making that “His ass is not gumbie” doodle made me realize how fun of a trio Munk + Jenny + Misto could be, I need to doodle them some more

I have a gumbie theory in mind: the 7 kittens Mr. Mistoffelees produced from that hat were a litter belonging to Demeter -- a litter she had with Macavity. Demeter took the kittens with her when she fled to the junkyard, but Macavity kidnapped them to remind her that she'd never be truly safe as long as he was after her. Similarly to how Misto used a large blanket to summon Old Deuteronomy, he used a hat to conjure up Demeter's kittens (the item he uses to summon a cat must be of an adequate size -- bigger cats require bigger items, smaller ones smaller ones, and so on). This is also why Rum Tum Tugger mentions this incident immediately following Old Deuteronomy's kidnapping; he knows Mistoffelees has dealt with this kind of scenario before, and has all of the know-how to rectify it.

Question any fav ships in cats?

I'm not too big of a shipper in general, but there are a few pairings that I find fun! (+ explanations as to why I like them)

Jennyanydots x Skimbleshanks (I can't help but picture them as the 'aunt and her boyfriend-who's-way-better-than-her-ex-husband' duo; they can't always spend time together given that Skimble is often out of the junkyard and Jenny spends her nights organizing vermin, but the time they do get to share is calm and quiet -- something both of them appreciate a ton, seeing as they both live very hectic and busy lives)

Bombalurina x Demeter (Bombalurina is the only cat that Demeter presently trusts with her heart, and Bomba knows this. Bomba is one of few cats who knows how to pull Demeter from her neurosis, and is the one Demeter trusts to do this the most. Part of the reason why Demeter is able to sing about Macavity at all is because she has Bombalurina by her side, reassuring her with presence alone that things will be fine)

Rum Tum Tugger x Mistoffelees (I like to imagine them in a queerplatonic relationship -- Tugger enjoys the occasional company of multiple casual partners, while Misto has an aversion to romance and gets all of the interpersonal joy he needs out of being able to wow his friends; but at the end of the day, they both share something exclusive and special with one another that both would describe as being a bond beyond friendship)

Victoria x Rumpleteazer (Victoria keeps Rumpleteazer's feet planted on the ground, while Rumpleteazer shows Victoria how to have some fun every once in a while. I imagine that Rumpleteazer is particularly good at speaking in signs, given that she'd need to be quiet yet communicative while sneaking around with Mungojerrie; and as such, she's naturally able to be quite talkative with Victoria, who has picked up a number of Mungo and Rumple's made-up signs as a result of this, while also teaching Rumpleteazer some proper JSL (junkyard sign language) 💪)

RE: non-verbal communication for victoria in your skimbleshanks headcanons: I'm new to the cats fandom, is Victoria deaf in canon/fanon? Is it playing on her lack of speaking roles? Genuine question, I just really want to know more about all the jellicle cats! (Your art is lovely btw, the poses are so dynamic!)

While it's never been made explicitly canon, it's a popular headcanon within the fandom that Victoria is deaf, both because of her lack of dialogue and because pure-white cats in real life are usually deaf due to genetics (especially white cats with blue eyes, which Victoria is often portrayed as having). I think their sisterly dynamic should’ve been explored more, they’ve got so much potential as a duo!!!!!!!

Skimbleshanks is such a wonderful cat, he loves his job so much 🚂💪 (+ headcanons below the cut!!!)

- Many of Jennyanydots’ mice have snuck onto the train with Skimbleshanks after the two hung out, necessitating that he bring them back to her (she’s always very grateful when he does this, her mice are too busy dancing to reproduce ✌️)

- He’s incredibly theatrical and gesticulates a lot while telling stories for the sake of the kittens who might not understand everything he’s saying, as well as for Victoria (he isn’t as adept at communicating with her non-verbally as the rest of the jellicles given that he spends so much time away from the junkyard, so he tries his best to make his gestures and their meanings clear for her)

- Munkustrap learned the hard way during a production of The Pekes and the Pollicles that Skimbleshanks likes to have a bit of scotch every now and then

- Skimble spends most of his time around humans, trying to keep them all in check; as such, he finds it embarrassing to give into his cat-like urges (chasing mice just for the thrill, chirping back at birds, etc), as this always leads to people gushing over him (he figures this means they’re taking him less seriously)

- Half of the cats in the junkyard have spiked collars because Skimbleshanks once raided a kinkster’s suitcase on the way to London, and decided to bring some gifts with him

She is Joy, she used to be jolly little Joy, until she went beast mode like that one gif of Smurfette becoming an emo thingy. BASICALLY, she loves to be in-control and doesn’t mind lying to keep her host (?) happy. She’s got Joy’s denial and need to be happy, and Anxiety’s need for everything to be “fine” (her protective instincts?). Can she be defeated with meds? I don’t know :(
