My mum is really good about helping me realise when popular ideas and theories related to this generation's schooling/literacy crisis are straight up propaganda, partly because she has been teaching for 20 years longer than me, partly because she has been teaching our town which is a very small rural area with a hothouse type environment where everything is 100% intensified that is practically like lord of the flies. Anyway I was talking about the trend in behavioural problems and whether it was related to iPads or COVID or something else and I sort of facetiously said "maybe shitty millennial gentle parenting" and my mum was like "The current crop of kids at school are the children of (noted high school bullies who used to spam my bebo [!!!] page with threats of violence and write on the lockers that I had AIDS), do you think they were gentle parenting??" And I was like o yea lol...nvm... My generation is also very violent ^_^
