Debunking the Naz/i Hand’s Purpose
Details everything so it’s lengthy. TLDR, skip to starting paragraph first word that’s in blue. Still, reading everything gives a broader picture.
Source of debunk credits to @audaciouslysane
Background
In 2019, ZZH went on an acting competition show called: Stand By Me《演员请就位》The competition involves having actors to play certain roles in a short movie (about 30mins) directed by the panel judges cum esteemed Directors.
ZZH was chosen by Director Zhao Wei and he starred in the short movie: Brother《哥》The genre (as provided in link) is tagged: Sibling, relationship, mental illness, brothers
1. [Left image] Look at the timeline the variety show was aired, and then the date the short movie was released, 7 December 2019, is the aired date of the Movie.
2. [Right image] The other main role of the movie: Wilson Wang/王森

The Original Gesture’s Meaning
(Direct links to watch the movie at end of post)
1. Hand raise meaning
Timestamp (from top to bottom, left to right) - 2:11, 01:37
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. “我等你呢” (I waited/wait for you)
Timestamp - 24:31
Tumblr media
Original post of the image
The image originally used to refer the pose gesture was this, the part boxed in orange is Zhe Jiang Memorial Hall of Revolutionary Martyrs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The original post where the image was from on weibo, both left and right are same pictures, different focus points:
Left image focus: Date of post, caption of post, comment on post, and each post picture given a number
Right image focus: The collage pattern
Tumblr media
[Left image] Firstly, the date the movie aired was on 7 December 2019, ZZH posted the image 5 days later, on 15 December 2019.
[Left image] Secondly, the caption says “I waited/wait for you”. (There is technically no past tense/present tense in Chinese) For international fans, you may compare the movie screenshot above, with the caption boxed in red, and the Chinese words ZZH posted + scroll down this image below, Wilson (王森), the actor who played the older brother in this movie. “我等你呢”
[Left image] Thirdly, the hand raise itself, is in reference to the movie, his older brother. Referencing from above, his older brother (in the movie), raises almost a straight vertical 180 - pic 9, while ZZH’s circulated image is lower. Because he was, and could be metaphorically reaching for his brother’s hand (see picture above).
[Left image - reference below] I just realised this myself. Lastly, Pattern A: look at the spread of the image in the post. There’s a distinct pattern: 3 selfies in the middle (pics 4-6), pics 1 & 3 with his buddy + corresponding inverted triangle pic 8 (no duplicated background or pattern), pics 2, 7, 9 where the Memorial Hall was.
(duplicated image below for easier reference)
Tumblr media
[Right image] Pattern B: The whole image itself looks like ZZH is sitting on the stairs, under a shelter. The center image is like the close up version of the 8th picture.
4 locations (consider the selfie with his buddy as 1 location), with the right lineage, to create a post with a bigger picture, no coincidence works this way.
In that case, if it’s planned, why the location then?
Look at pic 2 again, the railings is horizontal, a perfect sense of link for 1 and 3, through his hand. Look at pic 7, there’s also the railings, but he stands in the middle, creating a leeway for a 90°, look at pic 9, the angle is taken from a left to right perspective = he needs railings because it is flexible to take straight lines, with a person.
Being on weibo long, and having followed his account over the past 5 months, his curation of photo pattern is prevalent, it usually always has a message (which is why LLD have sweets each time they posted sth, both GJ and ZZH’s spreads can create meanings).
What he needed was just the railings, but it happened to coincide with the Memorial Hall, so this could just be an unlucky coincidence that the photo was taken with resemblance of the Nazi hand, and with the Memorial Hall in the background.
If there are still some, not convinced, allowing room for doubt of purpose, then let the Immoral Media prove to you:
Immoral Media’s circulation
What the Immoral Media was spreading (just a collage of 6 top few posts that came out from the search results):
Note that none of it had the full spread like the above, no proper context at all.
This was what was in circulation, it was straight up just that one picture compared side by side to the Nazi gesture (ignore the Chinese). See how they conveniently narrowed the scope of issue and cause a fuss?
Tumblr media
Conlusion
We have the Immoral Media to thank for, for increasing the debunk percentage.
Bonus (not really, just the movie link)
(A warning/PG18: The opening of the scene is on a bed, ZZH is a part of it)
For those who understands Chinese, Youku still has it here.
For those who do not understand Chinese, I’ve english subbed it here. (Please inform me if you have problems accessing it).
*Cultural language note: In English, Sis/Bro is a reference to both older and younger (depending the person), In Chinese, Ge Ge (Guh-Guh) is older brother, Di Di (younger brother), Jie Jie (older sister), Mei Mei (younger sister).
This addressing can be used for non-blood related but close people eg. an older but same position colleague, buddies. Sometimes surname is added, eg. surname of Zhou, “Zhou-Ge” (Older brother Zhou)
Usual usage is usually a single word eg. “Ge!” (older brother), “Di!” (younger brother), when saying in double eg. “Ge Ge”, it usually has a cute annotation

About Immoral Media in ZZH’s case
[The purpose of this post is to provide a perspective as to why the Media is raised/blamed regarding ZZH’s issue. Especially for international fans, as all the encounters happened on Weibo. Also, those who were on weibo, do read through if you will. So although it’s lengthy, do try to read all, at least if not the last two parts].
Disclaimer: Being there for 5 months, this is my own opinion and summary from observing. So please read with your own judgement in place. Not everything may be close to what it actually is but you can keep in mind in future if you’d like to/come across similar encounters. This is a one person’s opinion so I do not represent what the whole fandom thinks or concludes.
The Media referred by most, is not the common perception of the Entertainment Industry (celebrities, directors, shows, channels, staff etc), but the dark side of the Entertainment industry: Antis, toxic fans, toxic marketing accounts.
Toxic Marketing Accounts especially, on Weibo has millions of followers, each of their post likes are in the hundred thousands (buyable) to give credibility to passer-bys. Some use similar names to Official accounts, some use similar logos. Their posts are usually subjective or aims to steer view points of a certain celebrity/movie/show. Am not sure if there is an official term for these in English, I just group them all together as Immoral Media.
If you have chased before celebrities, or just simply passed by an article about certain celebrities, recall how some title that caught your attentions were like. Clickbaits is one of the many things they do. If ZZH/GJ is your first and you do not have Weibo, then this read is good enough.
Just as the term Immoral Media, it’s immoral and unethical, but they exists because they are paid to do so. Who pays them? Entertainment Companies.
Normal Media/Marketing vs Immoral Media/Toxic Marketing
When a show or movie comes out, the normal Marketing department will generate outreach and buzz so that people know a show is airing soon/know the show exists etc. Official announcements are not enough, because there isn’t much context (limited content to put up as well) so having some other Marketing accounts do the buzz in a planned period to gain awareness through posts, some articles about the casts, the plot summary, the production details etc is normal. This is Marketing, bigger companies will probably have stronger Marketing departments (aka influence) and can hire more Marketing accounts to generate buzz. Celebrities (aka casts) themselves, are also Marketing point.
Then we have the Immoral Media, these are what they mainly do:
Create Fanfiction-rumors: Creating rumors about celebrities to shift audience perception of them. [eg. XX was seen with XX leaving a hotel, XX was drunk on Event Y and did ZZZ to AA, XX is dating BB and has been in a relationship for N years etc]
Honing their brain degrading skills: Come up with titled clickbait headings/ trending topics with negative written contents. For articles, exceptionally out of heading content related to the celebrity. [Refer to Baidu, it’s a winner of these, feel free to Google Translate]
Regressing their common sense and understanding skills: Take everything a celebrity does completely out of context in a negative way and create a topic out of it [eg. XX said AA is a —, “XX raised his finger, a sign of —?”, XX pushed BB aggressively on Variety Show Y - A competition variety show, XX is in beef with CC because XX was caught giving CC the eye]
Enhancing their fingers and mind to stir shit: Coming up with ideas to create tension in celebrity fandom to have fan wars, escalate all smallest form of possible tension created by toxic fans into a huge thing for the targeted opposing fandom to see [eg. XX fans mocked AA, XX fandom mentioned AA fans about ZZZ]
Epitome of a self-deteriorate: Creating something out of nothing and react to that something negatively to gain attention/reaction [eg. “XX raised his hand on show Y” - dk what XX fans are thinking, are they literally blind? XX fans are tasteless just like XX hahaha / “XX did community service” - they are acting / “XX breathed” - From the start, i thought XX was NN, but I am so ZZZ that XX breathed. Goodbye fandom, i’m leaving. Those who still want to stay I urge you to rethink your life choices] - if I may add, Xiao Zhan’s fanfiction case as well.
Metaphor - Ability to use bare hands to collect paychecks from the urinal/toilet bowl where their boss/client peed in: Doing all of the above.
Apologies for any term offense, but not apologetic of the term context. This is what they do for a living. Any normal human being who do not like anything, will generally not be interested at anything about it in the first place, so to have some antis/toxic fans knowing certain things and inside jokes/references in their posts questions their goal.
On ZZH involved in Immoral Media
Fans on weibo during these few months witnessed many of the above on ZZH and GJ. From ZZH’s rumored girlfriend (spammed with articles) to mean and nasty comments on trending topics, to bouts of insults and fake emotional cryouts by certain fan accounts that ZZH and GJ’s work office has to release a number of Lawyer’s letter to them.
Aside from WOH there were also a few other BL adaptation films that were actually released this year but they did not reach exponential success like WOH. BL adaptations are so highly followed by because this is the key to wealth. Literally. Successful BLs like The Untamed and  Dao Mu Bi Ji saw the amount of wealth fans are willing to spend on the celebrity as compared to say BG or idols (younger fan groups). This is why when WOH shot up exponentially, Immoral Media start to sweat.
Major anticipated adaptations were supposed to air this year eg. Hao Yi Xing(HYX), Sha Po Lang(SPL) etc but was severely held back due to the stricter change in BL adaptations submitting their scripts for approval regulations (WOH manage to submit earlier before the change). Because of this, most final films were rejected and they have to keep re-editing, by then WOH was already months into reaping tonnes of major brand endorsements, shows/movie casting, variety show appearances etc, something that is seen as too successful in the Immoral Media’s eyes, because they have to create buzz for other celebrities, some are specific celebrity oriented and thus circulate rumors about having endorsement opportunities shifted from celebrity X to ZZH/GJ (think fanfiction-rumors and shit stirrer) causes tension in celebrity fandoms. - A real event just in July: The Untamed’s cp fandom is called BJYX which had always been in the Top 1 of Cps for 2 years dropped for awhile to Top 2, over taken by LLD. Both of them had a war and hated each fandom, one fandom is somehow not allowed to like the other fandom even casually after everything broke out because it started out with some BJYX toxics photoshopped ZZH/GJ’s face on a funeral portrait, and photoshopped ZZH on a fireplace.
Also another case of which ZZH wore the same costume as Wang Yi Bo did in a previous photoshoot and it became a useless comparison of who wore better, who looks better, degrading the other. (Finger stirring shit).
Now apply all of the above things the Immoral Media do and we have them earning money, while both fandom reacts and hate each other.
In LLD, our own fans started suspecting each other on who is a spy from BJYX and what not.
The first few months of Immoral Media saw LLDs mostly mocking them because the average age is 30-40s, they know and see through all of their intentions so nothing was big. They were trumpeting and LLDs didn’t even care, what with all the doing tedious stats was not even important to them. Over time, as the issues they create became more and more serious LLDs did start to care, report Toxic Marketing accounts/toxic fans became a daily task, go vote for ZZH/GJ at certain polls etc, GJ solo fans, ZZH solo fans and LLD fans also split apart. Solo fans think cp fans use GJ/ZZH to furnish their fantasies, and cp fans thinks they are the ones furnishing their dreaming-girls fantasy with (aka GJ is my boyfriend). There was also a period where LLD had a habit of continuously mentioning “we are in the 30-40s so we can see through everything about the media, we are all fans for the first time, we are good at spending money (because of purchase power compared to other fandoms)” it was prevalent for so long it felt odd, ‘chasing celebrities the first time’ in particular sounds more vulnerable as a weakness than a strength / sth to be proud of. Gradually, more secretive/insider confirmed ‘sweets’ were flying around. Fans advised advised each other to not circulate, and the mindset of “if you know, you know, dont tell.” (This is a problematic mentality, of which over the long term, it becomes hard for new fans to enter, because the entire frame of secretive did not help newcomers understand why, same goes for certain information that chinese fans dont share, and international dont know and dont understand, causing misunderstandings).
The last few months (for example the July fan war) created a tonne of seriousness and anger. A period even broke out with a tonne of ‘insider confirmed sweets’ (which is LLD’s daily dose of happiness), it was hard to tell what was real and what was fake. Trending topics became negative and everyone warned each other not to enter because it will give the trends ‘views’ and trend statistics. Everyone even starts thinking that the trend’s popularity was caused by each other (it’s true but it can also be bought and not caused by fans). There was a raise in the number of fans who were getting emotional because they want to protect ZZH so badly but Immoral Media kept coming and got worse, because fans, tbh, not just ZZH/GJ fans, every other celebrity’s fans are always fighting with Immoral Media, but getting played and plotted in their own Immoral Media calendar.
Slowly, LLD becomes like any other fan, in the eyes of passer-by, unsound and crazed. Unrelatable and obsessed. Isn’t it pretty prevalent in some people’s reactions?
Even so, despite all of these, LLD is actually a fandom Immoral Media may find the hardest to break, because among everything above, there are still plenty of logical fans to stop many fans from drifting too far.
Why 13.8.21 and the Japan issue is plotted?
First of all, in the political climate of China, there are many political dates in a month that is NO-Entertainment news. Because it’s the honoring of certain important political events. It’s like Remembrance Day, thus the sensitivity is higher. On these days, there are usually no news and even the Immoral Media zip their pants. This year also marks the 100th year of the Chinese Communist Party. An anniversary ZZH was invited to last month.
Secondly, ZZH has no work schedule on 13 August 2021. A great full day of LLD to focus on any other news (because if he had schedules, everyone will turn their attention to his events, what trumpeting outside is just bird chirps).
Thirdly, when the news broke out, especially about the Yasukuni Shrine, the reception was actually quite serious within the fandom so the scale of this might be big but to what extent in reality?
Lastly, 15.8.21 marks the 76th anniversary of the announcement of surrender of Japanese in World War 2. Also a day of NO-Entertainment news.
Forced to be silent these few days over the matter while the official news come out with everything taken down in a day because of the Japan correspondence, his accounts were banned overnight across the Chinese media. Overnight cancel like this scale happens only in China, and for the first time - a difference than other countries. Hope it’s temporary because of the memorial period…
When coincidence happens too often, it’s not coincidence.
Conclusion
Because ZZH was too successful and had many actually honorable past things, and a hard to influence fandom, Immoral Media view him as a huge threat enough to want to destroy him, because it’s hard to defeat. With a chance they have, they will hold it till the end, bringing up this issue to the Government during this period also shows a sign of how scared they were of ZZH and perhaps his fandom to plot something like this.
Bonus
Mentioned in the first post, will mention again in case. After the news broke out within 2 days, there was a drop on ZZH’s weibo followers from 18.9mil to 18.7mil. 200k+ drops, if the politics was such a big national issue, there should at least be a huge drop, even at least a million right? Because weibo is a China-Chinese majority right? Nope, we get a puny 200k drop.
What’s funny? The self-deteroriates:
Translation: “Are his fans bought? Why didnt he drop fans? Those people got brainwashed to this point?” / “I’ve never entered ZZH’s weibo and today i feel like having a look yet it showed I’ve followed him. All his fans were bought right? It disgusts me, i immediately unfollowed. This kind of process is worse than WYF…” / “i dropped fans because of ZZH…no…I just reposted 2 posts and I’ve dropped 4 fans?”
Isn’t the tone and regressing brain cells, all too familiar and same?

This tumblr supports Zhang Zhehan.
I know he did wrong I won't find him any excuses. What he did was wrong, stupid even.
But I know one thing about him: Zhang Zhehan loves his country more than anything and more than anyone. He showed it repeatedly throughout the years. He is honest, diligent and hardworking. Even if he can seem a bit harsh around the edges, he is kind-hearted and cares deeply about the people around him. Even if you search a lot and in depth, you won't find anyone who has something bad to say about him. Besides what happened today (yesterday for some people).
Or should I say, a few years ago. Because those events happened 2 or 3 years ago. But they are brought out in the light only now. Why? The reason is quite obvious: Zhang Zhehan was becoming a nuisance for some people. He had a lot of endorsements (more than 10) and as we all know the number of endorsements available are limited, so that was becoming a problem for other fandoms (since their idols had less opportunities).
I'm pretty sure they tried to dig out some things about Gong Jun too (he also has a lot of endorsements now) but they only found things about Zhang Zhehan.
Like I said, what he did was wrong but calling him unpatriotic or pro-Japanese because of it, is too much, way too much. Those people are making an example out of him. So, as always in those cases, the punishment is much harsher than what it should normally be.
I understand to some extent how important this issue is and how offended Chinese people are when they see those pictures. I won't pretend I understand perfectly, I'm not Chinese, so I can't do it fully. But what I can do is make a comparison with European war criminals and imagine how I would feel if one of our actors had taken ambiguous pictures like that. And I would have felt pretty scandalized, angry and disappointed too. So I understand (somehow).
But I still don't think that cancelling him everywhere and for everything is the right thing to do (I know he contacted the brands himself and told them to take him down to avoid backlash, but they would have done it later on anyway). He apologized, he said he would try to learn more and be more careful in the future, that he was ignorant but he would try to do and be better. Why do you need to invalidate him entirely?
I don't know how things will evolve. And if I'm honest, which I am, I am freaking out right now. I'm scared because China banned JB for a similar mistake years ago, even after his apology. And he's not even Chinese! So for Zhang Zhehan, as a Chinese citizen, it's much more serious. And that's why I'm scared. I'm scared that his career is over. He will probably have to go on hiatus for some time. I just hope that he will be able to come back one day.
The days, weeks, months, even years ahead will be hard and difficult. It's a very dark path that Zhang Zhehan will have to go through but I hope he will be able to go through it and keep his amazing heart and mind. We international fans can't do anything to help him. But we can stay by his side and keep on supporting him.
Ignorance is not a sin, refusing to learn is.
Zhang Zhehan is someone who never shied away from his mistakes. He always recognized them, apologized and learned from them. This shows the amazing human being he is. And this is why I will never stop supporting him.

aside from the fact that wen kexing is just perpetually flirty, here’s the deleted scene from ep12 which adds context to the ep13 joke/dialogue:  “Did I mishear you just now? A-Xu, finally you’ve admitted that I’m good-looking 😏😏😏“

I read your posts about the concert and I'm amazed by the actors' chill reactions! Did zhang zhehan really not feel uncomfortable about that steal your lover teasing? I thought that was too far even for wenzhou 😂
There's a reason why Wang Laoshi has attained legend status within the fandom. That man is the Youku editing team's nightmare.
Anyway here's a closeup video of ZZH's reaction so you can decide for yourself whether he was uncomfortable or not 😂

I'm so dead cụ ơi
So it looks like we're really throwing subtlety out the window lads 💀
We've all heard about Chen Zihan officiating Wenzhou's marriage and making it trend #1 on weibo, causing everyone and their mother to panic and spam the tags with "it's just a wuxia world!"
Now Huang Youming pulls this shit,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The "main table" is basically where immediate family members sit during wedding receptions asjksgsg
And fans basically flooded the comments with wedding wishes 😭 and some are asking why is he so sure that he's gonna be on the main table? Did he ask permission from Chen Zihan yet??? It's bc Chen Zihan is the organizer (lmao) and she is from Wen Kexing's side of the fam, and everyone knows he doesn't get along with his monster-in-law Ye Baiyi from A-Xu's side 💀
This cast is gonna be the death of me is2fg

I'm so wasted Tứn ơi là Tứn =((((((
HERE IT IS LADS! THE ULTIMATE CULIMINATION OF ALL THOSE WEDDING JOKES 💀💀💀 AT THIS POINT I AM CONVINCED WORD OF HONOR AND ITS CAST IS JUST ONE MASSIVE FEVER DREAM
So Gong Jun was invited to Chuang2021 as a guest (he did a really good job by the way!! 🥺) and throughout the event he would occasionally bring up a certain "Zhang-Laoshi"
So here he's being asked who he would form a boygroup with if ever given the chance,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*btw he ONLY referred to him as Zhang-Laoshi throughout the event and never by his fullname! It's hilarious that the Tencent subbing team just automatically subbed it with ZZH's complete name. Why are they so sure it's ZZH, huh?? There must be tons of other Zhang-Laoshis out there 😂
What he said was, "和我最匹配的人也就只能是张老师了” and I'd translate it as "the person most compatible with me can only be Zhang-Laoshi" or "the best match for me can only be Zhang-Laoshi"
The term he used was 匹配 and it is LITERALLY
Tumblr media
He basically called him his perfect match! 最匹配! GONG JUN PLS NOBODY WAS ASKING THAT! HE DID NOT HAVE TO GO THAT HARD! AND BTW JUST TWO PEOPLE ISN'T ENOUGH FOR A BOYGROUP?!!
Then, he specifically called out a trainee, Wu Yuheng, to tell him that he's going to support him, because Zhang-Laoshi sent him a hongbao when they were chatting the night before. Wu Yuheng is ZZH's junior from the same company!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HE'S PROBABLY WONDERING WHY THE GUEST MENTOR IS ESPECIALLY FAVOURING HIM LMAO
The rest of the members of his group were like "Thank you, Laoshi" but Wu Yuheng said, "Thank you, Ge" to him instead, so now Wu Yuheng's fans are referring to Gong Jun as "brother in law" asjksgsksg HELP
Tumblr media
And now the funniest thing about all of this, and the whole point of this post, is that a lot of people who didn't watch Word of Honor and don't know about Wenzhou, thought that Gong Jun was married after watching Chuang 😂
I kid you not, there were A LOT of people who LEGITIMATELY thought that Gong Jun was married to this elusive, mysterious "Zhang-Laoshi" that he kept on talking about.
This was further exacerbated by the fact that the host, Deng Chao, also refers to his actual wife as Sun-Laoshi! Whenever he mentions Sun-Laoshi, everyone knows he's talking about his wife. So you can probably imagine what happened when Gong Jun also kept bringing up his own mysterious "Zhang-Laoshi" 💀
Him talking about Zhang-Laoshi a lot, plus the stacked rings on his ringfinger, his overall demeanor and choice of words, the hongbao and the special favour for a specific trainee, all led to this one glorious misunderstanding. The stars really aligned for this to happen and I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING 💀💀💀
Some of the comments were just absolute GOLD. Like saying that they felt that Gong Jun was really too much, constantly talking about his lover during the event! 😭 And some were going "well it must be his wife, otherwise he would refer to them with their full name and not just a vague Zhang-Laoshi as if he expects everyone to know exactly who that person is" and also "he really smiles a lot when talking about his lover huh" asjkdgsdhs HELP ME WHAT KIND OF SITUATION IS THIS 💀
This is.....unprecedented. Clownery at its finest. LITERALLY ALL OTHER FANDOMS CAN GO HOME. I'm still laughing at the sheer audacity and absurdity of it all. All of the shameless wedding jokes the fandom and the cast members have been making until now have been absolutely STEAMROLLED into fucking oblivion by none other than Gong Jun himself.
Chen Zihan with her top trending Wenzhou wedding edit? Huang Youming and his wedding jokes? Zhang Zhehan calling them the hottest couple? Well Gong Jun skipped wenzhou's wedding altogether and literally made people believe he was married to ZZH 😂 I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE
I just???? What is this cast even doing?????💀
