I surely can't be the only one in this

I'm not a big fan of this scene, but I must admit I really like the interpretations of it. Symbolism theories aside, I find that this explanation would be totally plausible given the character's personality and the great need for external validation he's demonstrated over the last 15 episodes.

I am honestly late-night-thoughting this, but like:

Not sure why peeps are so freaked out by the Alyssa/Daemon hallucination sequence on The Incest Show TM (cousin-fucking is fine, uncle-niece fucking is fine, sibling-fucking is fine but apparently here is where we draw the line, hm). If you’re horrified by it then I think you need to recap which show you’re watching, tbh.

This is going to get me killed on the mean streets of Tumblr.com, but I see people rushing to say “Daemon doesn’t really want to fuck his mum! Symbolism!” And like, I agree…. But I also think Daemon doesn’t not want to fuck his mum. If that makes sense. Like, if he had the option, honestly I see him going there. He wants unconditional acceptance and approval and he continually seeks this out in relationships that aren’t built for that (with his brother-fatheresque-king-homoerotic-unfulfilled-gendersubversive-desire-to-be-useful-to-his-king-and-if-only-he-were-a-girl-he-would-have-been-his-brother’s-wife, with his niece-wife-queen-object-of-his-ire-and-resentment-maybe-even-hate-but-also-his-divine-RIGHT-as-a-Targ-man-and-his-twin-flame) or are so blurred and blended and warped by power that there is simply no room for the sort of affection and attention he craves. What is a mother to a man who has grown up without one? She is the symbol of that unconditional love and acceptance, and maybe if she had lived then he wouldn’t be the way he is, maybe he would finally feel like he is enough, and so if mummy dearest was prepared to offer him all the affection—and consider that in the absence of a mother he has likely formed associations with women that prioritise sex and sexuality—then would he hypothetically pass it up? I dunno. It seems kinda plausible to me.

Anyway, none of this is a hill I want to die on nor is it intended to be combative. I’m not being meenie behind my screen, just thought-dumping with a ‘hehe, brain cells did a spark’ and going to sleep, lol.

it always starts with the hands

things i wished to see in season 1 of HOTD:

rhaenyra and laena's relationship. they were besties and we saw nothing about them except when laena told her to get breakfast when they are in driftmark for rhaenyra and laenor's engagement.

helaena with the small folk and her children. she was an absolute perfect mother and princess and they showed us so little of her.

aegon's reluctance to usurp his sister. he accepted only because ser criston cole convinced him that his family would have been destroyed otherwise.

alicent. in the ninth episode we saw that she finally takes the power in her hands against his father, i wished to see more of this. she's a woman of the reach, she's independent, she's ambitious and clever. i wanted to see this side of her, just like we saw it in olenna tyrell and margaery tyrell.

rhaenyra and daemon's relationship with their children. i needed more. especially on daemon's side with baela and rhaena.

dragons. I NEEDED MORE DRAGONS. i wanted to see better sunfyre and dreamfyre.

viserys' relationship with jace, luke and joff and also with jaehaerys, jaehaera and maelor.

last but not least, where the F is daeron? i wish they talked about him. we kinda understand that there's someone else when daemon, in the tenth episode, said that the greens has four dragons which are sunfyre (aegon), dreamfyre (helaena), vhagar (aemond) and tessarion (daeron). i know he is in old town, but people who didn't read the book don't know he exist.

baela and rhaena. people called them "the silent ladies". WTF. we should have seen more of them. the dragon twins deserved more time on the screen.

hope to get all of this in season 2.
