• Lavender Tea • . As promised we are still into our Herbal Tea recipes this week. It’s been hard to get away from the news + social media but I’ve found that the longer I do it the calmer I feel . So this afternoon I will be sitting down and brewing up some Lavender + Earl Grey Tea . You can use a ready made loose leaf earl grey like I have, or you can look into making up your own blend (a mix of Keemun tea + bergamot essential oil) . I found an easy little recipe from @thekitchn that I’ve put a link to in our bio . Of course you can make a pure lavender tea, however the taste can be a bit intense for some people, so I prefer to mix it up a bit . If you do decide to make everything from scratch, it would make the perfect home made gift for Mother’s Day . Just pop it into a (thoroughly cleaned + dried) empty jar, add a label, and your ready to go . And if you can’t be with your mum tomorrow due to the current restrictions, don’t forget to call her and have a cup of tea over a video chat instead! . • Keep Calm + Make Tea • . The British have always turned to a cup of tea in a crisis, and right now should be no different! . I’ve being seeing so much support and advice from you beautiful people recently, and the idea that keeping calm helps to support your overall health really stuck with me . There are so many ways that you can practise self-love or self-care; by eating healthily, getting all your vitamins, taking a hour to do something you really love, like read a book or just listen to music . •Washing Your Hands!• . This is super important right now and we want everyone out there to stay safe . But we also don’t want to fuel the buying frenzy that has come with the Corona Virus . So instead we’ve decided to share a recipe for your own Home Made Hand Sanitiser, because we know that stocks are running low in local shops . This recipe is certified by the WHO, so you can keep it with you whenever your out and about, and when soap bars aren’t to hand • The ingredients you need . • Isopropyl Alcohol (99.8%) • Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) • Glycerin (98%) . ( The percentage refers to purity not quantities ) . To make a litre . 751.5ml Isopropyl Alcohol 41.7 ml Hydrogen Peroxide 14.5 Glycerin . Top up the flask to 1000 ml with distilled water or water that has been boiled and cooled; shake the flask gently to mix the contents . This isn’t our recipe, it has been published by the World Health Organisation for anyone wanting to make their own . We made some up yesterday, it’s easy enough to make and isn’t too drying, but you can always pop a bit of balm on afterwards if it is! . And you can always half or quarter the recipe to suit your needs . •Lavender Love• . Lavender features in quite a few of our products, from our beauty balm, shampoo bar, three flowers soap + our balancing scrub, just to name a few . But what is it that makes this hardy herb so desirable? Other than the fact is smells fantastic of course! . Lavender is one of nature’s great anti-septic + anti-bacterial essential oils. It heals and protects the skin whilst also Imbuing the wearer with a feeling of calm relaxation . Prior to modern chemical anti-septics and anti-bacterial sprays, lavender was used in hospitals to sterilise surfaces and even to clean wounds; a testament to its natural cleansing properties! . All this, and the fact that it grows so readily in the English countryside, make it one of our favourite herbs, and an absolutely necessary essential oil to carry round with us . •Australian vs. French red clay• . . Aside from their source and the difference in colour, both Australian and French red clay have a high mineral and iron oxide content . But for us, a U.K. based company, French red clay has one important element that Australian red clay doesn’t have . Heavily reduced air miles! . We’re always trying to source our products from the most sustainable and ethical companies that we can, and so when our red clay stocks were running low, we decided to look at the other options available. Our Shampoo bar is one of our long standing favourites and has revolutionised our hair care routine . We’ve become so used to using bars that the thought of having plastic bottle in the bathroom seems like a long lost dream... or maybe a nightmare?! 🤔 . It can take a little while to transition from bottle to bar, as the harsh chemicals in commercial shampoos strip the hair of its natural oil, meaning the scalp over compensated by producing an excess . But as anyone who has ever made the transition will tell you it is so so worth it! . Our shampoo is packed full of British Rapeseed oil that we source from a farm close to our cottage in Hoarwithy, and we use @willysacv apple cider vinegar to help smooth the cuticle, keeping hair strong and vibrant . Love yourself this Valentine’s Day! . Tired of being pressured into spending money to show love this year? Yep, so are we! So we came up with a few ways to show yourself a little bit of love, all without spending (much) money . 🌱 Make yourself a huge cup of Herby Tea - Chamomile is the perfect soother to relax and de-stress. You could even try mixing your own blend; try Lavender, Chamomile + Lemon Verbana for nature’s ultimate calming cuppa . 🌱 Run yourself a really hot bath and surround it with candles and your favourite music. Add whatever oils you have around the house or even try making up a herbal bath soak (check out the recipe on our blog for how to do this). Soak yourself until your fingers and toes turn to prunes and give yourself a neck a foot massage. You honestly deserve it! . 🌱 Take yourself for a walk. Who says you have to have a partner to go and get lost in the woods? Put your phone down, step away from social media (I know we all love and hate it!) and find the nearest bit of woodland. Wander between the trees just so you can stand still and listen. Do it as a Valentine’s Day gift to yourself, do it just to feed your soul . 🌱 Write a love haiku! Or any kind of poem. It can be to yourself, someone you love or even for the forest you just walked through . To quote Kurt Vonnegut . ‘The arts are not a way to make a living.
