Just here to say that I'm so happy you have a Tumblr and that I finally found you on here!! :O do you have a blog where you post about your other monster stories? I love Kree as much as the next person (it's how I discovered you!) but I wanna see more from you and I know you're working on multiple stories! Tumblr is the main social I use at the moment which is why I asked :) hope it's OK!
My two blogs are: @theworldofkree and my main @scribblemama but you won't find much on my non-Kree characters on either.
The only places I occasionally post about them are on tiktok, instagram, and on my patreon...but I don't post about them very often since (even after years) they are still in vague idea mode and aren't as developed as Kree. They're also more 18+ oriented, so that limits where I feel comfortable posting about them.
Thanks for your interest though!

Hi! I wanted to ask if it's alright if I species swap our harpies as a fun little doodle exercise? As in, so play with their designs across specific depictions of harpies?
This is @wingbeats-sharpbeaks as that's where my monster art is specifically posted (I just don't post art from my main blog)
I just wanted to ask beforehand if that's alright with you, thanks!
Oh heck yeah, that'd be cool to see! Feel free to!

Something I never really thought about, until I realized that owls are just 68% legs and then found out that owls have digitigrade legs.
It’s that do your harpies have bipedal legs or are they digitigrade?
(Below is what I mean by owls being more than half legs)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have always drawn Kree with plantigrade legs (same as us humans). Its not accurate to real birds and would likely cause many problems when it comes to actually living out life as a flying species, namely being less graceful/agile, but I don't really have any intentions on changing his design. Its easier for me to draw him as he is and no one seems bothered by it. :)

Forgot to ask but would Kree smoke (once he found out about the process and learned how to actually do it)
He's afraid of fire so...no lol. His fear fades a bit over the years, enough to allow a hearth into his home, but he doesn't get used to it enough to be okay with fire so close to his face. Smoking is a very human activity.

Does Clara smoke? Considering that this would take place in a time where smoking wasn’t known as a harmful thing?
Or would she smoke but can’t because she’s too broke?
Wait…
Would laurel smoke?
Clara doesn't smoke recreationally, however there's a chance that some herbal remedies require inhaling the certain plant's smoke as a treatment and Clara would not by shy to smoke or recommend smoking the herb through a pipe or breathing in from a burning bowl if an illness called for it. In the northern kingdom, they see it as medicine and anyone, even children, can smoke, but only when they are ill. Northerners are convinced that smoking too frequently can cause infertility, so devout worshipers of the Hearth Mother tend to steer clear unless unwell.
Tobacco (or whatever my world's equivalent would be) would be expensive since it comes from the south, but alternative medicinal herbs would not be unless they were rare/not native to the north. In the southern empire, men frequently smoke, but southern women smoking, unless for illness, is seen as unsightly/unladylike.
Laurel as an adult does smoke recreationally, mostly as a form of rebellion but also because she likes the sensation.

Do you think Neebs would have bit into Lug to see if he tastes of anything?
Yup! Its very mellow but Lug kinda tastes tart/acidic like lemon or sour candy.

Very “important” question
Of all your characters that you’ve posted about be it Lug and Neebs, Kree and Clara, or Hellboy and Spurtie.
Who is more likely to be childish and laugh. When someone mentions the word “duty” (or any vulgar word that you can think of)
Like I’m talking like some Beavis and Butthead type humor
Thank you hope you have a good rest of your day!!
Neebs by a long shot. She's not very mature lol.

Does Kree get pin feathers?
If so…
Does Kree like it when Clara picks at his pin feathers or would it be Clara’s guilty pleasure?
Kree does get pin feathers. Since they're irritating and sensitive, Kree only enjoys if Clara helps him open them up when they're fully developed, otherwise it kinda hurts/ they could bleed. Preening is very intimate (platonically and romantically) for harpies, so they tend to only do it with close friends, family, and lovers. When pin feathers are preened at the exact right time they're ready, its very satisfying!

It's brawling time!!!
I was going back and forth on the different teams especially since fossils seemed to align more with my monsterlover self...but decided to land on the one I initially gravitated towards. Stares sideways at my crystal/rock collection... I also still have to flesh out Neebs and Lug's profiles but I'm sure I'll get that done before July 1st. Their profiles are live though so you can bookmark them for later if you so desire!

How long are Harpies in term for? (when they’re preggers and no I do not regret using the term preggers) Is it the same as humans or would the egg and the fact that the embryo has to develop in the egg take a longer or shorter amount of time?
Harpies develop their eggs fairly quickly, it only takes a few weeks/ about a month for the mom to set up the internal process of egg laying, and then (if multiple eggs have been fertilized) she will spend about a week at home laying them all while her partner takes care of her. After being laid, the eggs are incubated/ protected for a few more months (about 4-5) by both parents before hatching. This makes the whole process last roughly half a year. Couples who are still raising young harpies and cannot feasibly take care of more children tend to give their fertilized eggs up for adoption so that childless harpies (typically mlm or wlw couples) can raise children of their own. Often the adopted parents are close friends of the bio parents, so the child can still know and have a relationship with them. Please note that exact timing may change in the future since this is my first time figuring this out!

Has Kree ever offered like say for example a squirrel that he chomped the top half off of and tried to gove it to Clara to be nice and give her food not knowing she can’t eat raw meat?
Kree may have had limited contact with humans, but harpies who have traveled a lot or have interacted with/observed hunters, know that humans in general "burn" their meat over fires before eating them. Most harpies see it as simply an odd habit/ preference rather than something humans must do to not get sick.
Despite this, Kree still would have gifted Clara fresh kills in hopes that she will cook and eat it. Honestly, once Kree starts bringing in the "right" animals (like rabbits, geese, and even deer), Clara really starts to appreciate these gifts since she and her aunt are not well off. Bringing home fresh meat is one of his main chores when they're mated and living together.

What were Kree's parents like and how did they get along with him? If I remember correctly, you mentioned that his father cared a lot for him and was determined for his survival, but his mother was more negative about this; She didn’t like him because he was the runt of the litter? And what were his siblings like? Did he get along with them or did they treat him badly because he was the runt of the litter? Does Kree miss them? P.S. Sorry for so many questions, I'm just curious about what Kree's family was like.
I haven't fleshed his family out thoroughly, but I know that he'd have at least have one sister and one brother. One of his siblings would have been a bit of a bully to Kree, mocking his size and such, but the other/the rest would have been kind to him. All of them would have been fiercely competitive over everything and had very cut throat mealtimes, but their loyalty to each other ran deep. Even as children, they would all be willing to die for each other.
Kree's mother initially would have ignored him a bit, (Infant/child mortality rate in harpy societies is quite high due to their dangerous environment within the magical forests, so being a runt is sometimes a death sentence that mothers need to accept) but once Kree showed that he wasn't going to die anytime soon, she began having high expectations for Kree and pushed him on to accomplish difficult tasks like hunting and racing more often than his other siblings. She'd do this in hopes he'd become stronger despite being a runt and, although it was far from affectionate, it was her way to show she cared for her son. From a young age Kree was taught that he needed to work harder than others to be successful and that giving up was one of the worst things he could do.
Kree's father was a much more loving, kind presence. He taught Kree what he knew in a meticulously patient way. Through his father Kree learned how to build a proper nest, how to weave baskets, and how to find human trinkets without getting caught. Kree's parents had a strong gifting love language where his mother regularly wore the human jewelry Kree's father would gift her. This is why Kree himself becomes quite the collector of shiny things and mainly utilizes gift giving when wooing someone.
I'm still unsure if I want one of his siblings to have survived the fire, but whether or not that's true, Kree misses his entire family deeply.

What was it like for Kree to deal with the whole birthing thing? For someone who's used to just seeing an egg break, all the blood, the screams, and the baby emerging from the mother's body. I imagine it must be horrifying and like something out of a horror movie. I wouldn't be surprised if the poor guy fainted. P.S. What was it like for Clara? Since the baby had claws, I wonder if it was dangerous or very painful.
This is my current idea of what happened, but please note the specifics of the birth may change in the future:
Clara gives birth with the help of her Aunt Ava who used to work as a midwife. Despite Clara telling him that the pain of childbirth is normal, Kree gets so anxious during the birth that Ava kicks him out of the room in order to not stress out Clara. Because of being locked out, Kree is able to calm himself down a bit and prepares things for the baby's arrival, including weaving a baby basket and wraping up his claws in order to not scratch the baby.
For Clara, the birth was painful and long. The baby had not developed talons yet, so there was no issue there, but the small wings were basically like two extra sets of arms. She definitely tore, but mother and baby were in good heath afterwards. Clara had fears that the baby would end up looking distorted or have complications due to being a hybrid, but their daughter seemed to be mostly human but with wings, wisps of feathery hair, and harpy-like feet.
Harpy children tend to be fairly present after hatching, open eyes, moving around, baby feathers etc, but little Laurel was more like a human baby, so Kree was worried that she had been born too soon. But once he was told by Ava that she was a seemingly healthy baby girl, Kree wept. Harpies normally do not cry when feeling strong emotions, its not a cultural or biological thing for them, but the moment he holds his his daughter is the first time Kree ever cries out of pure happiness.
PS. If you're from youtube, I have multiple videos of their daughter Laurel on my instagram and titktok where the story is much further along!

I want to clarify that I'm not asking this question to bother or upset anyone, since you were very clear about the Kree not having a mate after Clara dies, but I have a question, and it's about spring heat. After she dies, how will he deal with that? A friend with benefits, perhaps? A platonic relationship with someone (maybe with someone else who also lost their mate)? Or do the harpies simply lose their need for spring heat after losing their mate?
A harpy's spring fever tends to lose intensity after decades of living. Its like humans, most 50 year olds do not have the same libido they had in their 20s. A harpy that is over 100 years old, even if unmated, does not feel the hormonal changes as severely as a 30 year old. It is also completely possible and normal to go through heat alone. A single harpy won't die from it or anything, it's just uncomfortable and leaves them a bit vulnerable. So most widowers, especially if they spent decades living alongside their mate, tend to tough it out alone rather than break their loyalty.
When Clara passes, Kree would be considered middle aged for a harpy. His drive would much duller than it used to be, so it wouldn't be necessary to have a lover and Kree personally wouldn't seek one out even if his spring fever was strong.

Are there humans that can use magic/magia? Like witches or sorcerers?
So, magia is not magic in the sense that you can conjure something from nothing if you say a few words or do the right movement. Rather, magia is a microscopic living thing that changes the biology/anatomy of other living things that can consume/process it. These changes can be miraculous like allowing the creature to breath fire, grow huge, or fly despite being heavy, or the changes can be more simple like helping a plant make seeds that will take to the wind better than most. Its biological magic.
Humans are inherently non-magical. Unless they consume it all their lives and develop a slight tolerance, magia makes humans very sick because of not being able to digest/absorb it properly. Since non-magical beings, even with this tolerance, cannot be changed by magia, they are unable to have miraculous abilities that can be attributed to it.
So no, there aren't witches or sorcerers, at least not in the high fantasy sense. But there are human apothecaries/ medicine folk/ spiritual leaders who utilize magical ingredients in their medicines and potions, and there are humans who understand their magical environment so well that it may seem as if miraculous stuff is occurring, but really they just know how the plants and animals work.
