A Little Adventure

"Let's get lost," I said And you nodded without knowing Exactly what I meant I just wanted an adventure Because we hadn't been granted one yet You thought everything was fine But I was hungry for more I wanted wind on my skin and your hands in my hair So we drove into the sunset And sometimes stopped for gas and coffee And sometimes you would steal a kiss And we kept driving into that sunset Until we decided not to come back home.

I'm looking for the pieces Of my own shattered soul I found one in the garden Another under the porch stairs In the corner of the bathroom cupboard And then I found you And I think I can cross off Half of my list Because I think I've found the puzzle piece That fits into my heart And that's all I've ever wanted That's all I ever needed I just hope you need me too.

Escape

I used to think that I Was nothing special to behold Because other girls had what I didn't Smooth skin - like apricot fuzz - Hearts of stone - Cutting looks and biting glares - And they told me I was nothing And walked away before They could witness me wake From the winter of my soul And as I stood up and took careful aim I said, "I wouldn't ever want to look Wouldn't ever want to be A Barbie-clone with too tight clothes And flat, dull hair And a ski slope nose." And I let my words fly Like arrows to the sky Into their hearts And walked away knowing that I I was something different And I vowed not to change for anyone As their skeletons sank to dust I came out into the sunlight Glowing, and free.

Wings

He promised me forever But when I spiraled into darkness I realized that my trust Was something he liked to play with And nothing more So I crawled back into the shadows And let them drain my body of feeling Because that's how the pain went away I forgot about the stars And the simple beauty of living My wings were broken, trailing crushed feathers And shattered dreams It didn't matter I couldn't remember how to fly, anyway.

When Ghosts Come Out

Darkness

Like a velvet dress

Settles just so around the world

A tortoiseshell of stars overhead

Shadows -

Did you see that?

The flicker of an apparation

Not lost, just wandering through the night

No breath, only translucent body

Looking, searching for something

Someone they used to know

Someone they used to be

Someone they'll never find.

Bells break the silence

Just past midnight.
