what i do find interesting is that nageki's suicide wasn't the RIGHT thing to do. like the game paints it a lot as a necessary self-sacrifice For The Greater Good but it wasn't really that. like yeah the hawk party WAS trying to use nageki to genocide and shit but first of all who's to say there aren't more nagekis out there and second of all nageki COULD have gone with hitori. but it was indeed an act of. depression. it was suicide. a suicide that was influenced by guilt and self-loathing and feeling undeserving of love and affection and taking up space. the narrative, especially as it contrasts nageki's death against the king's, really paints nageki as a martyr. and nageki as a ghost is forced to step back from his feelings from the living world and his death and kinda just accepts it and moves on which adds to the way the game treats him as opposed to the king. i guess that's what drives the point of the game home: live long with your sins. not only a message the king was being taught, but one nageki was passing on from his own, lived experience.
