May I ask if there are any works in progress 👀

That's kind of you to wonder! I'm sad to say the works in progress will very likely remain only that. The only Gorillaz WIP I had started on was the one about Murdoc's relationship to "feminine" clothing, which I posted on here a while back... I'm sorry to say nothing has been added since then.

You may be aware I went a bit Blur-crazy (great way to cope with that awkward fandom downswing and transition is to basically kinda get into the same thing all over again...) and so I did start another WIP, but I understand that is not everyone's cup of tea. I can share what came of it here if you're interested though, but it's very minimal, rudimentary etc thoughts. It also just so happened by, er, the winds of fate(?) that someone else wrote a fic with the same central players at the same time and location (I don't know why I'm being vague about it-- Damon and Alex in Iceland during the 1997 recording sessions) and it's great, so I don't really see what more I can add! It does make me a bit sad not to see it through, but I'm not convinced I really have the wherewithal to do it.

I've become so... unflinchingly occupied by work, for lack of less ridiculous description, that I admit it is difficult to give myself the time and space to write, and then to do that consistently. I feel guilty for not having returned letters from dear mutuals for months on end, so where creative writing fits into that... I don't quite know right now, to be honest with you!

Do you think Murdoc would have a pet kink? Maybe nothing too extreme but would like to wear a dog collar.

I'm sure Murdoc enjoys anything that impedes on A.) his humanity and B.) his windpipe, so a collar seems like a win/win.

While I'm not the biggest fan of 2doc. I really like your submissive!Murdoc headcanon. I think it gives a more chance to actually try to write them more in character instead of doing it the more easier, self-inserted way.

Thank you, I appreciate that! I understand your perspective, I actually did not have much interest in 2Doc myself when I started getting more into Gorillaz-- but as time and, er, all of this would go on to show, I think that's where breaking with fan-space convention if it doesn't compel you can be a worthwhile thing to do. Obviously there can be drawbacks to doing fandom your own way or with much smaller likeminded groups, but it's the only thing you'll really be satisfied doing, I think. I definitely feel their characters had and could still have a lot of potential for more interesting interpretations while still maintaining a comedic core and keeping a tether to the canon.

Do you imagine the guys as the characters when you write them or as like the human equivalent ( so like Murdoc as Murdoc or Murdoc as Keith Richards etc)

A blast from the past!

It was always somewhere in the middle for me. I definitely envisioned Stu and Murdoc as humans with unglamorous qualities, their features and personalities and backstories a little more grounded in reality than the cartoon canon, but I didn't specifically "cast" them as a celebrity reference point. I probably let Damon influence Stu more than I let Keith influence Murdoc, but even in that case there was definitely still a distinction. (Actually, the more I've attempted to write some mostly-fictional version of Damon-- unsuccessfully so far-- the further I find him from Stu. But at the time, I would've said that I thought my Stu had a heavy Damon influence. Perceptions shift!)
