Nightbringer Spoilers lesson 14

First off I just want to say I loved lesson 14

The trial in which we support Diavolo. How sad it was Diavolo felt he had to follow exactly in his father's footsteps. Whe. He needed to realize he had power in ruling by his heart and his pure judgments. Solomon's brief backstory, which HURTS. It hit me right in the feels. But then we get this piece of information about Mephisto!!

First we all knew he loved the sweets made by Luke which gave the hint he had a sweet tooth. But Mephistopheles really out here pouring a whole pot of sugar. It's not really a huge pot(it could be) but I'm thinking it's like one of those cute sugar dishes with a lid (still a shit ton of sugar.) Bro be out here hyped up on sugar. 😂

Second his family has served as faithful knights!?!? Okay but this all makes soooo much sense now! (Sorry pro-shippers this ain't for you.) This explains why Mephisto is upset with Lucifer and why he feels like he deserves to be by Diavolo’s side instead. Lucifer is just someone forced unto loyalty whereas Mephisto is already willing to lay down his life to protect him. (Dude...I have a thing for knights this only makes Mephisto EVEN more attractive to me. I want him to teach me some swordsmanship 😏 *cough* anyways...) moving on to the finally piece

Diavolo refers to Mephisto as being a mini barbatos. Why? He nags Diavolo in the same way as Barbatos does about what he should do according to Devildom rules and not what Diavolo himself feels is right for him to do. Even though Diavolo is well aware of the fact of what is right, he also leads by his feelings (what I love most about the sweet prince of the Devildom.) But in the end Diavolo knows they both care a lot about him and that's why he is able to listen to their silly lectures.

Gonna go out on a limb and say that maybe forcing morals through the lens of how humans view things as an absolute judgment isn't a sure fire way to judge actions.

It's very clear demons do not have the same emotional control we do. That things they feel are immensely strong. Their inability to ignore their sins is a prime aspect.

We see Satan in Nightbringer, and we understand that he is not in control of his actions and therefore we don't look at him like an irredeemable monster. We see him lose complete control to the point where they have to restrain him so he both doesn't hurt them or himself. And then we see him in lesson 10, smiling at a napping cat and all is forgiven. Beel went on a destructive rampage and I don't see anyone commenting how humans don't act in such monstrous ways. We don't judge Mammons fuck ups because of his greed, we understand its something he doesn't have control over in the way a human does. Beacuse they're demons.

Belphie's actions weren't forgotten. In the end his only gift to us was a pact, because what else could he offer you that makes up for what he did. Something that gives you control over him.

Lucifer has now tried to actively kill us 3 times. Twice in season 1 and now in Nightbringer but he isn't given the same scrutiny for it. Belphie is.

Saying that humans don't react to trauma that way is pointless. He isn't a human, and he doesn't have the same emotional restraint a human does. He's traumatized, racked with survivors guilt and all of that is buried under the weight of transforming into a demon where he feels things more intensely then that of an angel.

If I don't look at Lucifer with such a critical eye, I won't do it to Belphie.

Demons are not going to feel and act in ways humans do. Thats the whole point.

Barbatos resented Diavolo for make him his butler

As we know in S3, Diavolo lured Barbatos and then trapped him in the castle until he worked for him

He then dismissed everything what he just said as a joke, saying that he did it in his own free will. And that can be true. But that doesn't mean that he didn't resented him.

Look Diavolo's expression when he said that. He was hurt. Remember that Diavolo knows when someone is lying

After all those years, it could have been a joke but that doesn't mean it wasn't true. Diavolo knows it and try to ignore it but he knows he imposed himself to Barbatos.

And as that worked with Barbs, he repeated it with Lucifer, giving him what he most wanted when he was in his most vulnerable state, with the price of owning him.

I wonder if he did the same for Barbs. If he offered something he couldn't refuse or paid his election with the thing he wanted most.

With luck, NB will show us what happened between them. And a possibly resented Lucifer against Diavolo. Maybe even a Diavolo that doesn't mind forcing his decisions in MC and the brothers (more than he already does 💀)
