7 Years ago this day… You could’ve called me ”The Birdman of Alca-Trav.” 😂🥁*drumsnare* … that was a fun adventure, too - making a new gray-feathered friend. There’s another photo on hand where he’s facing the camera beak forward, I promise. Interestingly, just now I was looking up that 1962 movie (one of my favorites)… It turns out that THIS very day, November 21st… the real Birdman of Alcatraz - Robert Franklin Stroud - passed away in ‘63. Didn’t even know that…Coincidence that I was thinking about that today, eh? Nice to learn new trivia! (PART 4/Final Part)… …In the days that followed, I witnessed a river of smoke and papers - floating above the roof of my apartment building for WEEKS - and trailing from the site of the attack in the city. I’m not sure how far out it dragged… It looked as if a trail of spirits, fluttering amidst a stream of smoggy clouds. It was also accompanied by a terrible chemical fire smell for that period of time. My words alone don’t do that visual justice. I heard the news that a neighbor of mine had died in the explosion. His name was #EricLehrfeld. While I didn’t know him very well, I had met his wife and young infant daughter at the time, Laura. I thought a great deal about her, and what this would mean for her. Apparently, Eric had been directly on the very floor one of the planes had hit as he was having a board meeting. I don’t know exactly what he did, but I know that he loved comic books. And his light is now gone from this world too…. By now, little Laura is probably now well into college. I think she would be a sophomore or junior?… I think a great deal about her for these days, and all the other souls I met working there for the one and only time I payed a visit. Even though I’m luckier than most, to not have known anybody lost in the tragedy as well as others… it still impacted me. Yesterday, on what’s now called “#PatriotDay,” I said a prayer for all those souls - not to mention those who are still among the living. 20 years later, may there continue to be healing and comfort for all from this tragedy… and may we continue to push forward as a #nation in a humble, but grateful spirit for all that we are allotted here as we grow ever stronger in all the ways that matter. And may we #NeverForget. (PART 3)… … During the first class I had that day, my new teacher - Gloria Ratafia - was writing on the board, when during the middle of the class, we all got rattled by the sound of a distant loud explosion. THAT’S how far away it could be heard - and in retrospect, it must’ve been the final destruction and collapse of both towers at that given time past 9:00 AM. Without any knowledge of what was going on, I assumed it was something related to a construction project - since on the school bus out there I would see a bunch of that in those days. But I still wondered why it was that loud…? During the rest of that day, I noticed the adults behaving strangely - of course, I now know why. They were frantically trying to get the students to see therapists and on hand counselors. The only thing was, we were being so protected from what was going on - it seemed to be only them that needed it… I had only heard whispers of what was going on in school about what had happened in #Manhattan. Finally, I came home on the school bus. I think I remember us being given some days off… when I finally came in the door and saw the imagery and videos of the attack on TV…. … I just broke down crying… it was at that age of my life, that I changed forever. (PART 2) … Once, during the July of 2001… I finally got to pay a visit to see it! It was incredible! We had to leave the top of one of the buildings quickly after arriving at the very top, though… since there was a thunderstorm coming. One of the security guards - A very bulky middle-aged, gray-haired guy with a mustache and sunglasses - was trying to get everybody quickly off the roof - and I remember him being especially nice to us (I guess because of me being there as a kid?). But I remembered him. He was a very kind soul. And when we had a chance to go to one of the tourist gift shops, I also remember this kind young African-American woman (must’ve been 20- somethings), Who made a kind connection with me there too. Both of them (for the short time that I knew them) were good souls. I have always wondered after whatever happened to them? Were they at work on 9/11? Or were they spared? At the beginning of September of 2001, I had only come back from a wonderful trip in August with my family to Italy - having seen various beautiful things there. It was my first foreign trip ever… But that is a WHOLE grand story in its own world for another time. I was only 10 years old then . At the beginning of the new month & school year, two things had changed for me: One was that I was in fifth grade now; The other was that I was in a brand new school - nervous about my first few days, and getting to immediately know and like a new set of people. The school was all the way out in Jamaica, Queens - and that detail is important for me to convey the sensations of that day in this story… …. (PART 1) - I apologize everyone. It’s taking me a day since the #20YearAnniversary of the attack to really, TRULY get ALL my thoughts together on those horrible and tragic events. On this occasion, I #remember EXACTLY where I was 20 years ago on the day and time of the event - plus, feelings and thoughts on the years before regarding the #TwinTowers, and how I felt after the event… First, when I was very, very little - I used to have this cutesy name for the towers (especially the one with the antenna). I used to call it : “The Rocket Ship On-Top-Of-The-Buildings.” 😒😅… I know, LOL, not exactly a short-winded title - but I was 3 when I first came up with it… so hush it. I had given it that title because I remember the big antenna looking exactly like how the old NASA rockets would look - and at that age I was very fascinated by that fact, and about the towers. First and foremost, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge something that just started a few days ago… To all of my #Jewish friends out there - in spite of these difficult circumstances that we now still all face - I wish to say … L’Shanah Tovah, and I hope that you all had a good and reflective holiday this Rosh Hashanah. Here’s to #NationalDogDay of 2021! In spite of everything that’s happened… I want to take a special moment to observe all of the following: all the good & the so-so days, & in between… all of the #DogDays, too. But most important of all, what this day means to me… August 26th (which funny enough happens to be National Dog Day every year) would have been my #Peanut’s 21st #Birthday! … It’s not that she would’ve had that long, anyway - but she had an incredible impact (for the better) and the love energy of our family for a little over 16 years of life with her! Which made it all the more painful when we lost her… Specifically, she passed two months after her 16th birthday… as if 2016 wasn’t awful enough. But even the squeeze of those last days were beautiful. And on these last days of summer, I say here’s to dogs everywhere! To our little furry family members. Because as I always say time & again, they’re WAY more than just our pets… Most of the #photos here are from 2016 or before, and they are mostly of Peanut. Somehow, somewhere and in someway at some time…. The sun sets on an old life, only to rise on a new one. We all rarely get blessed with the good graces to have a good entrance into things - or even a good exit out of each phase …. Or even, for that matter, in our last one - whenever that may be. But every once in a long, LONG while… one can embrace that change looking good. …. And even rarer still, but more importantly… feeling good, too! #ValerieShyokina is a Russian-American #actress and screenplay #writer. She grew up in the suburbs of #Philadelphia in a town called #Bensalem. Her love for her craft originated after deciding to leave her medical career and test the waters of the #entertainment industry. Soon after this decision, Valerie had become a part of several productions. It wasn’t until September of 2015 that Valerie started binding together the thoughts for a screenplay called “#Luna”, in which she finally finished writing a year later. “#Luna” is an adaptation of #Valerie’s favorite fairy tale, 'Beauty and the Beast'. Valerie had moved to #NewYorkCity in hopes of turning her #screenplay into a #FeatureLength film with wishes for #production to begin quite soon. She will be #directing the #film. Currently, her script has been transformed into a full official #novelization of Luna. The #Book has just recently been sent in to be #published, and will be available for all to read soon as well.
