Guess who's back

I've been gone ages, and for that I am sorry. Life got really hectic; but I am back with a new project and a spark of creativity. I'm excited to be back and really get some work done!

how do i write when i have adhd and cant even outline the first three chapters:( i always get stuck after three, get bored, and never come back. any advice ?

Writing with ADHD (by a writer w/ adhd)

1. Consume caffeine and/or do cardio for 30min before sitting down to write. Listen to music, a themed playlist perhaps. Do not log onto the internet or have any distractions nearby (books, pets, clutter, food, unfinished projects). Keeping a dohickey like a stress ball around or even a lightweight dumbbell is a decent proxy when your brain craves distraction. Chewing gum can also help you focus.

2. Don’t outline by chapter, I cannot get farther than five or six when I do that. Outline from beginning to end, but make sure to have a middle! Write a synopsis of what happens and break it into chronological chunks. Only outline by chapter once you’ve got a general outline of the whole story, and even then only outline a couple chapters at a time.

3. Write whatever comes to you, but keep it in order in your document. You want to write how your character discovers a secret, but you know that’s not until chapter 20. Write it anyway and title it chapter 20. Do this with every scene you’re inspired to write, then slowly fill in the gaps. If that proves difficult, it’s okay to make the reveal chapter 9 instead and connect everything with [and then this happened] so you’ll know to sew it up later.

4. However short or long the story ends up being, finish it. You can set a goal of 30 chapters, but if 10 is easier finish by chapter ten. Come back (much) later, reread, and add any new ideas you come up with. A short story is sweet! A novella is nice! Train your brain to write longer passages until it can achieve a story of the length you want.

5. (optional) Outlining is for people who can focus, just start writing somewhere and figure it out along the way. I had a very general outline for my longest novel, but mostly I made everything up and ignored it. Maintain focus, know your end goal, and even if you stumble there and take some shortcuts it still counts. Any messiness can be improved in future drafts.

Devlog #5

Hello all!

I wish I had better news, but I put Love & Curses aside to work another project mine. I’m still going to have a demo ready before the new year of Love & Curses though. that has always been the plan and I will have one ready. Though it might not be through Choisescript like I wanted if it’s going to cause me this many headaches. I’ve also been playing around with Twine and would post it to my Itch account. I hope to have a word count to deliver in the upcoming week!

Hello all!

Long time no see! I went radio quiet for a while trying to get into the swing of things with coding. I’m never going to be satisfied with the first draft, hence why it’s a first draft so I thought it would be better to start coding so I could share the game with everyone. That is turning out to be a bit more confusing than I thought it would be.

I have not abandoned my project, the magic system I had in mind is just going to need to be reworked. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just troublesome. Just wanted to keep everyone up to date and let them know I haven’t abandoned the project.

Hello lovely people!

Apologies for the radio silence and my absence, I want to try and do a steady update of things every Monday and I missed last week and am late this week I knew I couldn’t miss an update again. Despite the worries of an election and hurricanes. (Living in the south and all this stress, let me tell you!)

That is neither here nor there though, I am so sorry about just dropping off the face of the earth!

As far as updates go, I finally finished L’s introduction, the choices spanned further than I thought they would, who knew they were such a chatterbox. still it was a lot more fun to write a childhood friend then I had expected! Which mean up next is one of the scenes that really started all of this for me. N’s introduction!

Sorry, this devlog is actually pretty short, and the dream goal was to have a functioning demo up and operational in time for Halloween because witches, but that just did not happen and I am so sorry. While the prologue is done, I really wanted to have the entirety of chapter 1 completed as well so I could post it all together. I’m really sorry!

Luca/Lucy Vernatto

Age: Same age as Little Spark (MC) a month or two younger, though I’ve always seen them as a Leo, so their birthday would be August 19. Supernatural: Shapeshifter of the canine variety. Appearance: Luca is tall (6’ 3”), with tawny skin and ash brown hair that is in an undercut and is actually curly but he always wears it slicked back. Lucy is also tall (6’) with the same tawny skin and ash brown hair, though Lucy also has an undercut and wears her hair in a short asymmetrical bob. Lucy was afraid to get her ears pierced as a kid and is now embarrassed about it so she wears clip on earrings. L’s eyes are a pale gray with a silver ring around them. History: Grew up an only child until their parents adopted their twin brothers  Aaron and Isaac, another set of shapeshifters. Was born a few months after Little Spark and their moms became pregnancy friends since it was a small town and people kept insisting they should meet, upon giving in they instantly sparked and from there you and they have been thrown together since childhood. Their mom is the Mayor of Sanctuary and their dad runs the best bakery in town. They like you have spent most of their lives in Sanctuary, though just a few months ago they left, without a word of why to you.

Nico/Nicole Laveaur

Age: 3 years older than Little Spark (MC) so late 20’s early 30’s. They’re an Aquarius, birthday is February 14. Supernatural: Witch Appearance: They are African American, rich brown skin  Nico is short to average (5’ 9”) and Nicole is likewise short to average (5’ 5”). Nicole wears her hair natural and free, often changing the color on a whim though usually in an ombre. At the moment it is a nice pale blue and that fades into a purple pink. Nico has dreads that he wears pulled back into a low ponytail that he also changes the color of often, preferring it in solids it is presently a nice pale blue. N’s eyes are amber and deeply insightful. History: Raised by their single mom N has always known about magic and everything that comes with knowing about it. Though they definitely got into trouble growing up, when they were 17 their mom sent them to Sanctuary for the summer to spend time with their grandparents, and that was how N met Little Spark. N got a job at the magic shop and maybe Little Spark felt a little something, but maybe not. Every summer after that N came back doing an internship under your aunt, and by extension you got to spend a lot of time with them, until they left for college. Roughly a year or so ago N came back and you found yourself with a partner in the shop.

Quill/Quinn

Age: You know they kind of lost count, older than 1 less than 1000. They picked a day they liked for their birthday so June 1st, they’re a Gemini. Supernatural: Fae Appearance: Q is on the thinner side, more on the thin side, as if a breeze would knock them over, but that is simply an illusion. Freckled and pale they seem as if they almost aren’t there. Their hair also reflects their pale appearance, a soft pink that Q wears extremely long, Quill preferring to leave his bangs free, while Quinn wears them in a braid to keep her face free. Their pointed ears are impossible to miss though no matter the glamour they might wear. Their eyes are a mint green. Quinn and Quill are both 6’ tall  because height is an illusion. History: A mischievous soul who has a real tendency to get up to no good. Including somehow ending up in Sanctuary. Though Q has no intention of actually explaining just what their doing in the sleepy little town they cant deny that they’re very curious about the Little Spark and the history of the town. Q finds that poking around their past isn’t really a needed thing, they have parents of course and they even have a sibling, but what exactly led to Q being on this side of all things supernatural and different as opposed to on the other side, well there has to be a little mystery or who would pay attention to them.

Devlog #2

Hello all!

This past week has been a little rough, but I’m pretty pleased with the progress being made with the story. It’s definitely still in the ROUGH part of the rough draft but I’m making good progress. I’ve written up to Little Spark meeting L so that’s some excellent progress. Hopefully I’ll have the entirety of chapter 1 completed this week so I can do edits this weekend and start coding as well.

I haven’t tried to do a word count yet, since I know that when I go in to edit I’ll add even more to the story. Hopefully I’ll have good news on the update next week!

Brief Update

Hello all!

So for those who might not know a hurricane swept through some parts of the south last weekend. I was unfortunately effected by it and lost power for a day or two and had to pull more hours at work because of it. I still plan on getting the RO bios out today though. I am currently plugging away even, I just totally forgot about doing a little update during the week. Hope anyone else effected by Hurricane Delta stayed safe and didn’t suffer too much damage or loss.

Hello all!

I’m so pleased to be talking with everyone again! So far the prologue is written, but no RO’s are introduce in it; so I’m going to try and get chapter 1 written or at least to a point where I wouldn’t hate to share it with everyone. I’m still more or less on target to try and have a working demo out this month, it just might not have everything I wanted out with it, but that’s what it’s a demo for! 

Let’s see, so far there’s the RO’s art and the cover art and summary of the game, while I plug away at the chapter I’ll probably post the RO’s descriptions for anyone curious about them.

Summary:

What would you do to fall in love?

Who would you become if you knew your love would lead to ruin?

Generations ago your family was cursed, that though they may know love, that love would always lead to pain and ruin. Though you've always known this, it was never a secret to your family and they never hid it from you-what would happen if you could find love?

Sanctuary is a small town, a population of a few hundred, with the worst best kept secret there could be. The supernatural are very, very real; witches, werewolves, and various other supernatural are all very much so alive and well. Sanctuary is one of the few towns where the boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary is a bit vague to say the least.
