HiguMei x Haruhi Crossover Thoughts: The Story

(Thanks to @neon-z for the link to the Reddit thread containing the translation)

I'll admit, the fact that it's Mei and thus the plot is inexorably tied to Mei characters and Mei mechanics puts a damper on the crossover for me, as I simply don't care about them. But besides that, I'm... happy?

Naturally, I'm comparing this to the Haruhi/Higurashi crossover fic I wrote over a decade ago (wheeze), primarily with regards to things like "how does the SOS Brigade get involved?", and it tickled me how much little details line up with the ones I came up with oh-so-long ago - particularly the inciting incident of "Haruhi wants to check out Hinamizawa's ruins to investigate the supernatural", though Mei is more explicitly ghosts while Cries wasn't as explicit. (Probably because I was younger and working with more generalized life experiences). And I'm a big fan of the Haruhi story - it's stuff like this that reminds me just how good Haruhi (as a character and as a work) can be.

HiguMei x Haruhi Crossover Thoughts

Okay, the Mei Higu/Haruhi crossover cards are basically everything I'd want them to be... well, these are at least. If I played Mei, I'd probably actually whale for the first time in my life for that Rika/Yuki card.

I feel like I would really like this one if they didn't have Rika go for the red witch eyes. Kinda ruins the Nagato vibes, TBH

And hey! Kyon! Didn't expect to see you in any of these cards! And I definitely didn't cut this one off deliberately because come the fuck on, Mei, no sir!

Anyway, this is just what I got from the HiguMei Twitter account. If anyone can send me the rest (there's more, right?) of the cards, I'd be very grateful. (And a translation of the storyline, too - I want to see how Mei fucks the crossover up handles Haruhi in Hinamizawa differently than my teenage self did.

…I know it’s not likely given that CLANNAD is specifically a VN first and foremost and not just a 2000s anime touchstone, but the possibility of Mei crossing over with Haruhi Suzumiya feels extremely possible and I don’t know how to feel about that

Rena looks more or less right, though her serafuku is more Haruhi than Higurashi.

Mion suffers from a number of Eye Crimes, and is mistaken for her sister at least once in the top middle.

...okay, I'm genuinely surprised with how clearly the Shion ones are Shion. There's some great atmosphere in these, too - love the middle-right and the bottom-right ones, for different reasons.

Satoko's become quite fond of burgundy for some reason, though otherwise looks more or less right, if a bit greener than average. (Is she wearing Keiichi's outfit in the bottom right?)

Rika looks the most like herself, except that she has no eyes. Creepy.

Keiichi is many things. Sometimes he's himself, sometimes he's Akasaka, sometimes he's Irie, and at least once on the top right he's Koizumi from Haruhi. (Lotta Haruhi pollination here, I gotta say)

And finally, Hanyuu... has decided to not appear, and so we get a whole bunch of other characters from what appear to be Touhou and Madoka (and this is the closest we've gotten to her out of like five refreshes).
