We're stopping development
First I'd like to apologize for the silence. I suffered another heart attack shortly after arriving home, which left me in critical condition. After that I truly tried my hardest to recover, but I simply cannot get myself into a remotely functional working state. Development had slowed down considerably since two of my team had almost entirely disappeared, and the holidays took up everyone else's time. Leaving me to try and charge ahead blindly.
I loved this project dearly, it was a wonderful beacon in the dark when I was in a terrible situation, and I loved crafting its story and putting my twists on the characters, excited to give back something to the TWST community. But sometimes, life just doesn't work out. And after a long long battle with my first heart attack, then getting diagnosed with a chronic illness from it, it just continued to get worse and worse.
I don't want to give up entirely on Four Nights, but I do not have the strength to be the lead developer. With this in mind, I'll be releasing the entire design doc with all of our planned routes and story beats for everyone to read. We never did finalize everything, but my belief is if anyone likes what we were trying to do, and wants to take it and use it. They should be free to. I don't want the hundreds of hours I spent writing and putting work into this to be wasted. That would be disrespectful to everyone who had worked or supported this project.
The patreon has been left up with all of its public posts and previews. I will post any remaining content on there and tumblr. The Ko-fi has also been deleted, and after this post goes live, I will start compiling all of our notes and documents into one post that should be coming in the next few days. I'm still severely ill, so it may take a little while. I'm sorry about this.
I'm mostly sorry to all of you, who waited an entire year for a demo I couldn't deliver. What build we have will be made public, and even include the unfinished sprites. I'll also be releasing the entire script, including what didn't get to be released into the build. All side works I created will also be released.
I once again apologize. I know I can't control my health, but my brain has always nagged me that there should of been more I could of done. Especially when I was so confident I could do this. I wanted to do better for all of you. I'm sorry.

A small update
Sorry guys for the silence! Settling back at home went a little rougher than expected. Unfortunately, my health took an instant nose dive. And I mean dive. I'm in the midst of recovering from honestly the worst cardiac attacks I've suffered since the beginning of this year. Since my insurance ran out, I can't rely on medical aid this time either. I'm holding in there! But I did make it through an honestly super scary time, and I can hold my phone again without having to use two hands, and not having it feel like it weighs 30 lbs.
I see those asks in the ask box, and seeing how long ago they were sent makes me shed a single tear. But I shall get through the other side of this, and hopefully get back to regular work soon. For all the people who have sent me support, and most importantly, people with medical experience who gave me amazing tips, I thank you immensely.

hi, just wondering how are you and the status of the game development. Hope you’re doing well.
Thanks for checking in, anon. I've noticed we've got a few asks in the ask box, but I'll be answering them later, as I'm currently on a little vacation. My health took another dive, so my boyfriend has flown me out to his place to relax for a week, and that's where I am now. I'll be heading home in just two days, and after that, I'll be getting back to work again. As for other members of the team, Xing's been on a long family vacation, Rem is moving to college dorms, and the rest are scrambling for holiday stuff. The end of the year has been very busy! But I'm happy to say that as soon as the last CGs are finished and my shading work on all the sprite variations is done. We can release the long-awaited beta of the upcoming prologue. Hallelujah. I'll admit, development has been a wonderful challenge as it's really shown me how much work goes into these projects, and most importantly. How hard it is when you've got a severely limiting chronic condition, lol. But I'm still gonna get it done. Even if it's years from now. I'll do it.

From the most SFW to the most NSFW, how would you rank the routes? Who has the most SFW route and who has the most NSFW content? And how far the NSFW part will be?
This is slightly more difficult to answer. Since in the outline we've tried to make NSFW scenes as even as possible between each character. But there is lots of more... casual? NSFW? of just implied things going on rather than full blown scenes. And that is uneven. So far its planned for each lead to have about 3-4 full blown NSFW scenes with CGs. Which are petered throughout the routes in an unequal fashion (some at least try to romance you first!) But as for their outside content....
1: Malleus
2: Lilia
3: Silver Route B
4: Silver Route A and Sebek Route B
5: Sebek Route A
Is how I'd rank them in terms of NSFW. Malleus is the most suffocatingly affectionate. With Lilia being a dirty old man. Silver just wanting to share skin. And Sebek.... He's in denial a lot.

I'm really excited for this project and admire your spirit and dedication despite hurdles with your health, I find it really inspiring!
I was wondering what your making th r game on and all the sprites and backgrounds for it. I've always wanted to make my own game so I'm really curious what programs you're using, and if there's any type of coding language I'd need to learn.
Looking forward to playing everyone's routes, especially my man Malleus😳. - A fellow Twistie.

We're making the game with ren'py. I create all the sprites on my usual art program; Clip Studio Paint. Ciel, the character designer and CG artist, also uses Clip, or sometimes Ibis Paint. Our BG artist uses Photoshop. Personally I can only recommend Clip, but use whatever you're most comfortable with! An artist always uses their tools to suit their needs. Not vice versa.
As for coding, I just use what Ren'py does. Which is python for dummies. It's not too complicated, I mostly just refer to the wiki and browse forums when I want to find a command that does what I need at the moment. I can give you all the websites I use if you'd like, anon!

Bunch of silly questions:
1. Will the player meet sebek's dentist father?
2. Is lilia's vision impaired or what? Is that why he wears a monocle?
3. How long is silver's hair?
4. How long will it take (estimate) to complete a route?
Great questions anon!
1: No. MC won't meet Sebek's father. But they certainly will hear about him in Sebek's route. Once you get close enough to him. I apologize in advance for the mob that will come after me.
2: I can't answer this question, to confirm nor deny would be spoilers and it's something that gets some limelight in his route. Just know the monocle is important yes.
3: His hair goes a little past his shoulders, but not past his shoulder blades. It's enough to tie back and have some hanging around, but not too long. I thought it looked cute and gave some hair variance. Since Sebek's hair is as short as ever, and Lilia and Malleus have two different variations of long.
4: I can't really answer this at the moment, as I've got so many scenes planned and plots for routes that aren't scripted and I can't imagine how that will translate to actual reading length. Everyone's different and their speed will vary. But so far? I've been told I have bitten off far more than I should chew for a first time game. It's why development has gone far past my initial estimate (also. being in the hospital half the year didn't help)

Since it is confirmed in the game that 10 human years old = 1 fae years old, does this work in your game

The release of this information all came after I had made about 50% of the plot in about 3 weeks of manic power. I went the route of keeping ages generally vague for the fae with this in mind. Though Lilia is certainly still as old as dirt, he, however, is still rather spry in this game. Along with being criminally bored.
However, I can tell you the Canon ages I settled on for the other important characters:
Mc is 28 years old.
Silver is 26 years old.
Sebek is 25 years old.
And Yuuken is 27 years old.
As for Baul and Maleanor; Baul still gets his mentions, but Maleanor doesn't get much mention. As I loved the mystery of the death of Malleus's parents, I kept it that way. Now, if you were to ask what I did to his grandmother... haha.

when the routes are released will there be a thing for each route with the trigger warnings or is that just gonna be for the whole game
The whole game will start with a trigger warning, though having in-depth trigger warnings for each route, I can certainly consider.
Malleus's route is especially filled with noncon that turns to dubcon. Sebek's route has a dead end that includes dismemberment, and ofc there's heapings of torture in Lilia's route.
I'll consider it anon, so people can kind of skip through routes if that be their wish to avoid certain content. Though you'll still need to have seen every route to unlock the True Ending. This was a very good ask, I'm showing it to the team ASAP.

It's Back To Work!
Thanks to everyone who wished me well on my health break, and for those who sent me asks throughout recovery and kept the hearth burning. But I'm now back to working on the game, however, I've got a few updates.
There's been a changing of the guard, and we've restructured a few roles to help keep things balanced. For one, we lost an editor, but gained a new one who will do edits in big chunks as his schedule allows. I also let go of doing CGs and handed it off to Rem/Ciel, who has been the biggest advocate for me to stop trying to do everything by myself lol. It's a huge load off my shoulders, and will ensure that the prologue comes out much faster now that he will handle the CGs and I can focus on the last few sprites needed for it.
Xing has been incredibly hard at work doing the backgrounds, and has gotten at least working colored sketches for all prologue areas, so I don't feel bad about releasing a beta without color (oh what a cruel colorless world we could of lived in if they hadn't saved us.)
And most importantly, the script for the prologue is far past its halfway mark. I'm always going back and editing it even on my days off, and it's really starting to shine as we're about to do day 5 content. It's my favorite to work on and program in, especially on days where drawing just ain't working. The art ain't artworking you know? Especially with our all important Mysterious Stranger and his very important CG that I absolutely want y'all to see.
Now there is one last thing I want to update y'all on, for any who may be interested in why progress has been so stop and go for me, and why I am afflicted with AO3 writer's curse. And a follow-up to my last health post. It'll be under a read more, so if you've had your fill, I'll see you next time, but for those who want the info, it's below the cut.

So. My Health. When last we left off I had been told it was absolutely and utterly not POTs and I was getting mixed signals on what was going on with my heart as well. But the consensus was that my heart was just dandy and I was being silly.
Turns out both were wrong.
I have POTs, I scored every single symptom except the racing heart, because mine instead drops. And it drops hard. (we're talking the low 20's) Turns out my poor weak heart is failing on me, but not showing the chemical signs, so all I can really do is try to improve my cardiovascular health and pray it doesn't give out on me. It's not a good diagnosis, it isn't a good time, and I'm certainly not happy. I've been told to write my will it's gotten so serious. BUT on the upside, I am stubborn as all hell. So even if my heart is literally attempting to give out on me, I'm gonna keep doing my silly little passion project anyways.
FN is the biggest project I've ever worked on, and though its proven to be a lot more work than I expected, and a true tester of my patience. I want to finish it. I will finish it. God cannot stop me. He's trying. I've been in and out of the hospital since my last update, and was in it just as recently as two weeks ago. It is trying. But I will not give in. If I perish let it be known that I was god's most stubborn soldier.
Don't worry for me, worry for my poor heart that can't keep up with my burning spirit. It isn't strong enough to keep me down. I actually worked on the script on my phone in the hospital. It cannot drag me down fast enough. Take that god.

Q: Who is making the game?
Currently as of 11.1.23, FIVE people are working on the game. First there is Aru (me!) who is the main creative head, I create the story, art, and am the current programmer. Two are my friends Neko and Salt (check out Salt at @writingseaslugs!), who are helping me with writing. Then there's Xing (check them out at @qierxing!) who's helping with background art! And finally Rem/Ciel (@remturtle) who does delightful work on character concepts. I tell everyone what I want to do for a route and I run it past them to make sure they like or if they have ideas that they think will work better. Together we are here to bring to life your Twisted Desires.

Q: Are there any types of asks that aren’t allowed?
We will answer all asks to the best of our ability, but there are certain asks that can't be answered straightforwardly, or we might have to delete. Such as asking if there will be X scenes. We'll try to answer everything, and we're always open to suggestions and the like, but I'm only one person. If your ask goes unanswered, send it in again, and add a note you're doing so, so I can either answer it (sometimes things slip through the cracks) or send you a DM as to why it can't be answered. Otherwise I'll make a post outlining why I can't answer.
Q: How long does it take to get an answer if it follows all the rules?
Not long, I check tumblr often, about 3 times a day, chances are it'll be answered fairly quickly!
Q: Will Four Nights be free to play?
Yes! As a TWST fangame, I feel its not appropriate to ask for payment, but there will be an option to donate a Ko-fi, support on Patreon, or add your own price on Itch.io if you like the game that much!
Q: Will Four Nights release over time or all at once in a single launch?
At the moment, we plan to release the game in multiple builds. But we also want to release a demo that shows the game in action and as a "proof of concept" to those who are following along now, this early in development. The demo will (likely) contain just the prologue. There is also going to be beta and alpha builds of the in-development demo on Patreon and Itch.io.
Q: Do you have an expected release date planned?
It's too early in development to say, too many things are up in the air. But if I have my way, it will be released Winter 2023, or perhaps Spring 2024.
Q: Will there be a Patreon?
There is now a Patreon! You can check it out, here!
Q: With that in mind, what would the Patreon do?
So far the Patreon serves as early access to behind the scenes content, and will offer exclusive beta build access that run before and after publically available alpha builds.
Q: How can we support?
We have the Patreon, but also a Ko-fi! Which you can find here!
Q: What content sensitivity warnings should I be aware of?
There will be heavy sexual content for one thing. Full nudity will be shown in certain CGs along with sexual acts. There will also be: yanderes, dubcon, noncon, kidnapping, unhealthy relationships, physical torture, harsh language, major character death, dismemberment, disfigurement, blood play, knife play, marking (magical and physical), domestic abuse, and psychological manipulation. All gore outside of blood will be written but not visually shown (either through sprites or CGs)
Q: Are you going to make the game stream friendly?
Considering all we've got to censor, you'd think I'd say no, BUT- I will be creating a version of the game where sexual scenes can be censored and the worst of the violence also waved over.
Q: How different will the characters be from their TWST counterparts? How many changes to the lore of TWST are you making?
There will be many major differences, we're not just changing the ages! Some characters have entirely different sides to them, and their more primal instincts will be brought out to play. This is all to say, I had fun with them (lol). I want you to see this Twisted world for yourself and find some parts you still love, and more you can come to love.
Q: Will there be any other TWST characters beyond Diasomnia?
Yes, the "hero" you are betrothed to is none other than our very own Yuuken Enma. What? You thought you were Yuu?
Q: Is the MC Yuu?
No. You possess magic, and are certainly not from another world.
Q: Does the MC have a backstory?
Yes! You cannot change it, it's important to the story. But you can change how you might feel about certain parts of it.
Q: Do you plan on having the MC being female?
MC's gender, sex, and pronouns are entirely up to you. You choose of one of three appearances: Feminine, Neutral, and Masculine. Your sex assigned at birth, and what pronouns you go by. They're all interchangeable, and we're looking into a system where you can change your pronouns at any time.
Q: Will there be any bonus content, and what will they be?
That I leave up to my friend Salt, they've offered to create fics and other writings for this universe to help promote it, so please look forward to that! I may create more art that isn't strictly related to sprites and CGs, so that's also in the cards. If you mean bonus references in the game itself, ah... that's up for you to see.
Q: Will there be X type of story or character scenes in Four Nights? What will happen or change if I make X type of choices/etc.?
It's still too early in development to say anything concrete, especially without giving away spoilers. So I'm sorry but I can't concretely answer this, but you're still free to suggest things you'd like to see! Though I won't directly confirm it if I decide to use your idea...
Q: How many routes will each character be getting?
Silver and Sebek have two routes, though their B routes are only unlocked after finding a secret in Lilia's route. Lilia and Malleus only have one route, but their length varies, and they have three endings instead of two to compensate.

You mentioned that the players will see smol Lilia in the game. Can we got a design leak on that? 👀
I won't make any promises, but I'll talk to our character concept artist and see if they wanna handle that. I've had a design doc for ages but thought not to tackle it until we got to Lilia's route. (So basically its designed, but just not drawn yet) But for you anon, I may make an exception.
For those curious about the Yuuken design I promised ages ago. It's in the works, and you'll get to see a certain little monster who swears he's not a racoon too.

Also, why did you remove Lilia's dyed streak? Is it for aesthetic purpose? Or do you have a special reason in mind? 🤔 I'm curious!
These are good questions anon! As for Silver, the answer is more complicated than you'd think. So I'll go with yes... and no. I first made the reason why he was sleepy long before the official chapter 7 reveal. So I hope you enjoy my take on it when the time comes. (Reminder that Silver's route will be the first to release!)
As for Lilia's streak. I just wanted to get really funky with his hair since while I love his current look, I wanted something a little.. less boyish? Don't get me wrong, twink rights and all and you'll definitely see small Lilia in the game. But I wanted a more serious side of Lilia to be shown, so I elected to cut out the hair dye for now. Though there will be dialogue about it. Lilia was a character I had the most fun... warping his personality, so I hope you'll enjoy the peepaw I'm peddling. (Sadly his route is the second to last to be released)

About Silver and Lilia's relationship, how much difference between your fangame and the original twst will be?
They are father and son, yes. Will there be a major change regarding their dynamics? I am dying to know! How would you elaborate their dynamic in your game?
I'm a huge fan of their father and son dynamic, and I didn't want to overly change it or get rid of it entirely. So I'll say they are definitely still father and son (a certain dead end really cements their bond). But how they came to be father and son, and how they present themselves to others is definitely different. Though yes, Silver is still traumatized by Lilia's cooking (and so will you!). I can't spoil too much as a lot of their dynamic will be expanded upon in each of their routes, but do know that your favorite papa and son pair love each other as much as ever.

I remember that at some point, the twst fandom had a theory that Lilia is a vampire. Will you make this theory come true in your game?
I hope I don't bother your recovery with my question! And I wish you got back to health soon!
Its not a bother at all anon! As for that theory, I can't say I wasn't inspired by it. Though no, Lilia is not a 100% vampire. Not to say we didn't take some creative liberties with him, but he's definitely not a confirmed vampire. He's very much still fae! He just has some... spice to him! Thanks for the well wishes!

A Quick Unfortunate Update
Developments been a little slow lately as I've had surgery, gotten sick, had some upsetting personal news, and now, just last night had to go to the hospital again due to difficulty breathing since I caught COVID. Needless to say I haven't been able to update the patreon, and I don't have previews that aren't too exciting. With that in mind, I'm going to announce a small break as I try to catch my health back, and hopefully by the end, I'll have content from the other members of the team I can show. It's been a really rough year huh?
The good news is even though I'm high risk for COVID, my inhaler's done its job for the most part, so there's no huge worries for me at the moment. Just waiting for it to be over as I'm holed up in my room watching Pixar shorts. Stay healthy y'all!

Hi, a question out of curiosity if I may.
I adore the MC's design and I think they are very good-looking! But I wonder, since they are a hunter (who I imagine would engage in a lot of dynamic movements, and in those situations, long hair can be a distraction) why did you decide to not style their hair in a ponytail or etc? Is there any reason why you went for 'hair down' design?

That's an easy to answer question anon! Once again, i took inspiration from Aurora again. I loved her hair growing up, so I knew for sure I wanted all MC's to have hair down like her. Though please, headcanon all you like on them tying their hair up for hunts. I don't take offense at all. (If I ever tackle Ignihyde in the far far impossible future then yes. I'd love to do Meg's ponytail)
