Also Oscar and Eric's relationship is probably my favorite thing in the entire manga They're both amazing characters and each interaction is gold They can fight with each other, they can discuss anything, they can share worst details of their personal life almost right from the go and they both care deeply about the same person and they both know it and trust each other then it comes to dealing with that person's problems All their talks where they don't say exactly that they mean build on trust that the other will understand, how they know each other normal behavior and when it changes It's just such a wholesome relationship, no matter if its friendship, romance or something else, it's just great cause it's very clear they like each other, care about each other and about the same people, and they support each other because they have all this in common And it's a vital part of that makes this story great and complex and interesting even now i guess

On a side note:
Eric is such a menace He's not bad or cruel, but he just woke up one day and chose violence He lives through weirdest school experience, but manages to react to it in a way that makes people around him regret their life decisions at least once He makes stupidest decisions even though he's smart and observant His mood changes all the time, he shouts at and gets into fights with half people he meets He gets scared thinking his roommate might kill him, but then the said roommate can actually do it Eric just goes "well, ok, i've tried that, didn't work" He doesn't want other people comparing him to some other guy he didn't know, but he also has hard time distinguishing between his own thoughts and feelings and that of the mentioned guy He got not very politely declined entry to a seminary and he scared a priest His best friends are:
- his murderous roommate, with whom he probably bonded almost solely on the basis of their shared mental instability - the guy who tried to prevent him from interacting with the mentioned roommate at first because he cared for that murderous guy, it backfired, and now he has to look after two unstable guys instead of one, so they're friends
In the end he's still just a small feral guy, but he's a little better at controlling his actions and words

Heart of Thomas general impression
Started reading Heart of Thomas thinking it will be just ok, it's an old manga after all, one of the first in its genre, it will surely have many flaws and then it turns out to be one of the best things i've read in a while, the plot is very intriguing, the characters are simply amazing, the way they interact feels pretty realistic even though the events happening are wild The way it deals with relationships, with love in a broad sense of word, with self-discovery with beliefs is not that i expected at all, and it's easy to see how many authors after probably took inspirations from different parts of this story it's incredibly sad but also very hopeful and it reminded me of Nabari no Ou a lot, cause those stories share at least one of the themes but explore it in different ways, and it's beautiful It has real awful horrors happening to literal teens but it also has these teens support each other, care for each other, share happy moments together and well heal and grow Therapy would've probably solved half of their problems, but they work with that they have with major losses but still there are good things they gain in the end I really wish more people knew about it now

I love how discussions around bucchigiri?! went from "hm, the style looks cool" to "oh, it's kinda too silly" to "why this protagonist is so bad" to dozens of interpretations and attempts to explain what this show is probably trying or not trying to say bonus points if there's a "i hate this show" post followed by several posts with theories on why the events happen the way they do by the same author it's very entertaining

Thoughts after ep 8 of Bucchigiri?!
Maybe spoiler-ish, mostly about Matakara and Arajin
Like i get what Matakara is literally the sweetest boy that we need to protect at all costs, but there is a reason he has to grow as a character too, because, yeah, he's the nicest person, but nice people like can get themselves in trouble very easily (him getting close to Shindo, as every viewer screams internally for him to run out of there, for example), so in order to continue to be a nice living human, a person has to be selfish too, a person has to build boundaries and try to see things as they are. And in order to be brave you have to be afraid of something and then still decide to face your fears. It's not about not having flaws but about living with them and managing the horrors in your live and trusting yourself to overcome bad stuff, to maybe fall and then gather yourself and only then rise back again. And Arajin is obviously the silliest guy with zero communication skills sometimes, but well, at least he knows his limits and what he does and doesn't want. But he has the guts to be honest even though he's scared of disappointing the person that looks up to him and also too scared to face his weakness and his past, and he still doesn't choose the easiest way out which is lying to the person who will believe anything he says. Because he obviously cares, and in his own way he still tries to protect his childhood friend with his own two weak hands be it simply supporting him after fights, shouting nonsense to distract his opponent or helping with a party. That's not much, but that's still an effort, because it's easier to cut off the person you wronged before from your life and then make up some excuse to justify your behavior, than to face guilt and regret every day and still care. They're very similar in many ways and very different in others, they have different ideals and goals, but they make the same mistakes, and i love this, this makes their connection that interesting, and it makes me want them to ultimately resolve their issues and become the bestest buddies ever cause it seems possible. Their relationship will benefit from personal growth, and their personal growth relies on their relationship. They both could learn from each other and they both need more self awareness and confidence. I like how the plot just collides everyone's delusions, insecurities and conflicting motives, not giving a universal answer to all problems, instead it shows how this doesn't work, but people still can be together and do cool stuff and have fun even with all their differences, as shown in two previous episodes especially. I'm invested into relationships between each member of this ridiculous cast more and more each episode

Bucchigiri?! has pacing of weekly webcomic with 20-30 pages being smashed into one episode
not bad, not good, definitely unusual, tone shifts all the time, but at least there's so much happening in each episode it's never dull

Not a big fan of remakes But Remakes of things with cool ideas, that didn't work as well as intended, can actually turn out to be good So I just really want to see persona 2 with all weird plot details it has and mechanics literally not present in any other game of the series, with main cast dynamic different from other games in the series, with actual adults in the main cast for once, with each character iconic on their own, but in a more accessible form

I just love the two youngest es idols Aira and Kohaku, i love each of them as characters, they're both really nice, cute and cool in different ways, and their voices sound cool together too, i love their relationship in the story and their interactions with other characters And, obviously, i absolutely love the idea that if anything bad happens to any of them it will probably trigger a massive breakdown for most of es characters cause of all the suppressed trauma and complicated relationships they have, just like a massive domino structure falling after a single tile is pushed

Another silly small thing i like about Bucchigiri?! Half possible ships can technically be shortened to "majin", cause half of characters have these two syllables in their names, so using it would be so very confusing, i love it

Bucchigiri?! ep 6 favorite things:
yeah, arajin's mother back, this lady brightens my day
Komao, still ready to fight for his friend (despite said friend's protests)
Mahoro, because that was cool, i respect that
If you think about it the fight could be easily avoided, but this school is just weird and well, they really have only themselves to blame, to be honest (and that's cool)
Outa, man, your flirting techniques are terribly stupid, but if it works it works, i respect that
I didn't share the common obsession with Marito, but these flashbacks gave me new perspective, and i like this permanently hungry emo gremlin now
That scene of him just eating a random flower petal with no thoughts whatsoever, that's what i love about this anime
Arajin, i actually get you, i understand you oh too well. Anyone trying to be too aggressive towards this literal teenage disaster and pathetic cringe king will have to fight me in a comically exaggerated fight first. And i will bite.
The same statement works with Zabu
Matakara, no, actually i'd like him to be as far away from there as possible, but alas (not his fault though)

Well To begin with I think it's important to not fight the silliness when watching Bucchigiri?! it's essential to enjoy this show i guess, cause if you try to find deep and clearly stated moral lesson in every detail of it, you will be just disappointed, especially while it's still airing, because that's like not the point These characters are not model heroes with high ideals and immense willpower, they're like the opposite, they're all silly and weird in their own ways, all with flaws (and yes, even Matakara, we're just not covering his problems yet) and their interactions are just as unhinged, which makes sense, and that's cool. It makes everything interesting because there's no clear moral compass to follow yet, and some stuff just happens, but that's the comedy of it, and beauty too. That feels fresh, and of course it's not for everyone, but fighting this show's intrinsic silliness and randomness just leads to less enjoyment from it all, and it's pointless. If you want to enjoy it embrace the silliness and watch it like a bunch of seagulls fighting with tourists for junk, or like bugs living their lives under the rocks, or something. It's an open end question and all the marks will be defined randomly in this media interpretation class, enjoy the liberating feeling of knowing that author probably wanted to tell you something but realizing you have literally no idea what it was or having all 100 ideas being somehow a valid answer. Or watch it any other way, but like, don't let predefined ideas of how things should be take away from your enjoyment.

Favorite things in episode 4
Matakara trying really hard to approach problems like a normal person, unlike literally everyone else
Komao ready to beat up birds for a friend
Arajin's mother just being herself
How talk between Arajin and Matakara just doesn't happen despite them talking, i don't know how to explain this one properly, but i like this scene
Flashbacks, yeah, i do want to know more about all these weird people
Unexpected bonding over having older brothers
The whole ridiculousness of how Matakara-Arajin-Mahoro dynamic plays out
Mahoro not even trying that hard to impress Arajin anymore
Arajin's fantasies of how problems just solve themselves without his interference
The last scene, obviously

Both ALKALOID and Crazy:B fit into found family trope, but belong to different ends of the spectrum of how lucky they were to meet. ALKALOID is "model family adopts miraculously nice children on Christmas eve and save their quiet cozy town with power of love and kindness" type Crazy:B is "unfortunate events brought together bunch of criminals, who have to work together to get revenge on someone from their dark past, even if they don't like each other" type And together they form one big worst-and-best-at-the-same-time found family

Just some thoughts on why it's extremely entertaining to watch Bucchigiri?! at least for me and at least now (with 3 ep out)
Obviously the designs, backgrounds, animation, voice acting and music is really good. It's fun enough to watch even without trying to piece together all the details of possible plot development or characterization. The world is bizarre and you never know what will happen, but it's also silly in a way what can remind of silly stuff irl(yes, playing baseball with a basketball, that brings some memories).
Even though the plot isn't clear at all now, i'm still curious about what might happen in the future episodes, cause there's more to each character than i thought at first and in each episode lots of stuff happens. It's both good and bad, but for me it's incredibly interesting, cause it's hard to predict what will actually happen.
And insane details what make no sense at first but then you wake up at 3am realizing "oh, that's what it meant", probably. It just works for some people, but will not work for others, obviously. And i'm in a group who's puzzle-solving and eccentric-fashion-loving parts of the brain just got activated by this show. Kinda spoilers and wild theories, thoughts, observations and bad attempts at analyzing ahead
Right now i think we've been introduced to most main characters, and show may probably continue with awful interactions between them. Awful cause, well, each of these characters wants something different from others, sometimes something completely opposite (like with Senya and Arajin, one wants to fight but has no interest in other stuff, like romance, and the other doesn't want to get anywhere near fights and just wants some romance in his life; similar with Jin siblings, Zabu and Matakara and Arajin and Mahoro in that order, and different gangs). And when there are these dialogue lines and scenes, what kinda feel like they're supposed to make more sense later (like with how Zabu tells where's no "fair" and "unfair" in fights; how Arajin actively avoids talking with Matakara, but is still clearly worried about him, and how quickly his usual commically-happy-and-invincible attitude changes when anyone is hurt; and various comments about gangs' lore in background dialogue; and the fact what there should be a second genie somewhere). It's fascinating if you love digging into every plot detail like there's some big conspiracy behind it. This research activity can be fun on its own, and it's increasingly hard to stumble upon anything what really makes you wonder what is even going on. That is not for everyone, and that's ok. But i won't be able to shut up when i have so many theories about what could happen, or why characters act like they do, because it's fun. First episode is a series of wild events what occurred because characters either ignored something or tried to make something worse for someone because of a personal want. And it just spirals from there. It may be not about how good and right can these characters be, but the opposite, how bad can it get and how can they change it. Everyone is a bit dumb and a bit mean and a bit stubborn, and it's interesting, cause everyone also has something or someone they care about. It's like billiards but with abstract concepts of characters' motivation instead of balls. It will be sad if we just return to typical plot development, though it's not clear what genre are we even watching at the moment. But this will be later, and now i'm having fun with this show, and that's already good.
