I wanted to reread Homestuck but forgot it didn't exist anymore, so I decided to reread Homestuck 2. and I forgot how damn bad it was pre-roach dude oh my god. I've actually been skipping through, because so much of it feels like they say there jacking themselves off for writing long, drawn out dialogues and garbanzo beans "deep" narration that doesn't actually *say* anything. The epilogues were a mess that felt like they were written by people who liked Homestuck. post-roach is people who love Homestuck trying to fix a mess. But this is people who liked the fandom business but cringe when someone compliments Hussie's writing.

its kind of funny that the homestuck fandom took the 6/6 name thing with trolls and ran with it. like, adult trolls (at least historical adult trolls) have longer names, right? they have 8 letter titles. the disciple, the sufferer, the dolorosa etc, but even mindfang & dualscar, which sound just more like... names.

and this isn't just meaningless musings; this is actually a relevant & interesting piece of lore once you consider (1) how many letters cherub names have and (2) who the invisible hand guiding Alternia's history was

Hello again. You know me, I love me some Rosemary, and I wanted to review another fic I read. Well, that I'm reading, this one is meaty as fuck. I'm talking about Chapters 1-16 of The Good, The Bad, and The Alternative by @madam-melon-meow and sarcasticcelery.

This one is an urban fantasy au, taking place in Houston three years after the "Suburban Catastrophe," a meteoric apocalypse that ended up in the world of magic and not-quite human beings called Alternatives, being revealed to the "normal" population. The story focused on the four beta kids and the beta trolls, with all the trolls-save Kanaya- being some manner of Alternative.

I'm a huge fan of this one, I always love shit that keeps fantastical shit at the forefront. And it's done excellently here, everything translating from the Actual Comic to the world M^3 has made incredibly satisfying. Some of the decisions confused me at first, like Kanaya being a plain ol human, but some I thought were incredible, like what they did with Aradia (but you gotta read for that. No spoilers.)

The "main" cast is pretty damn huge, but Kanaya and Rose are definitely the major players, with their relationship one of two driving factors of the plot so far. It highlights how easily their personalities can blend to be quite toxic, but not in too much of an "angsty" way, but more in a realistic way.

On the trolls side of things, the relationships stick mostly to canon, but Eridan really wants to fuck Dave for some reason? And there's some romantic tension between Kanaya and Vriska at points, but I'm really hoping that's bait and not where the story goes. (17th biggest Vriska hater right here). They somehow made me like Equius though, they make that guy fuckin adorable.

Overall id give it a 9/10, but I'll (probably) make an update once I read farther.

I also find it hilarious how I’d had this one planned to post today and then beyond canon decided to remind me that everything is terrible, Candy Rose sucks, and Kanaya is fucking pissed. Crazy coincidence.

I was recently gifted with a bunch of people telling me about cool rosemary fanfiction. So I've gotta make sure people know about it, because I fucking love Rosemary.

The one I just finished is Apples Cleft in Twain (And Other Foods of Love) by @precalamity . No fuckin clue what the title means, but hey. it's cool. It's a retelling of twelfth night in the same vein as The Lion King being Hamlet, and it's kinda really fucking solid for that. Its about Rose getting in a shipwreck and assuming that Dave is dead, so she does the reasonable thing and steals his identity to avoid confronting his death. The characterization accuracy is off the charts in this one. It does end up a little davekat heavy, but it fits with it being twelfth night perfectly and I feel like it added to the story rather than detract from it.

Solid 8/10
