LISTEN: How I reimagined MEDITATION as a Township Girl/Woman
LISTEN: How I reimagined MEDITATION as a Township Girl/Woman
My name is Vuyolwethu, a writer and mother – and someone who’s grown to love and appreciate meditation after years of the practice frustrating me because I felt like I was doing it wrong. The other day, I visited Facebook and came across a post by Viwe Joka, posing a question that peaked my interest. So, I designed this workshop/worksheet and recorded a new episode for my podcast. Coincidentally,…

Content Mill Writing
Project background About two years ago, I was approached by an international content mill based in India. For this company, I wrote 100 000s of words in content across covering various topics from tech to fashion, gaming and lifestyle articles. Creative process Most of the time, I would get a brief and do my research. Because the pay was extremely low ($7 per 1200 words), I had to spend as…

Escaping a Creative Quagmire: Overcoming a Lack of Self-Discipline
Someone tweeted about this and it really hit home so I thought I'd shed some light. Just my 2 cents. Nothing major. Happy May Day.
If you’re a creative, you are likely to have a short attention span (like me); however, I particularly struggle with having talent and a shortage of self discipline. Someone tweeted about this and it really hit home so I thought I’d shed some light. Just my 2 cents.

The Atrocity Exhibition that is Babes Wodumo
The Atrocity Exhibition that is Babes Wodumo
We love toxicity. We love watching someone else’s life as if it is a movie in an attempt to feel better about our own shitty existence. Very few of us are solving the problems we face and past trauma. We would rather spiral down the rabbit hole of a celebrity’s chaotic life on social media as a coping mechanism. Checking up on hashtags, commenting on the domestic issues of celebrities allows us…

Graphoflux: Explications | Call for Submissions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Graphoflux is a series of work that explores the healing power of words and avenues of innovation in South African literature. The word Graphoflux is completely made up. The word is derived from a phenomenon/disease called Graphomania. The suffix, -flux represents the first flow of words in and out of a writer. Instead of dis-ease, it represents flow. The first edition of Graphoflux was a…

3 Ways to Survive a Failed Creative Project
3 Ways to Survive a Failed Creative Project
That was your baby and it bombed. You sit there crying for days wishing Satan can come scoop you, dig a hole for you and bury you under it. Maybe it’s not the first one that bombed, now ‘everyone’ in the creative ‘industry’ is looking at ingathi unyile. And maybe vele unyile. But hey, what’s life without egg on your face every now and again? A young taste of humble pie never hurt nobody.

Dope Saint Jude dropped THE MUSIC VIDEO for black girls :-)
Dope Saint Jude knows exactly who she is. This empowering jam is necessary in any playlist and the video is beautifully shot in Cape Town and is a celebration of our amazing-ness as black girls!
Tumblr media
Dope Saint Jude released the ResilientEP last year, and it has been a firm favourite for me and my daughters. Each song in the album is an affirmation of the resilience many black women build up over the years, especially those of us who are considered ‘different’ or ‘weird’ because of how we look, our sexual orientation, how we choose to dress, etc. You’d think that the world has evolved to a…

In June 2019, PE-born Moonchild Sanelly and Capetonian, Dee Koala took a moment to remind us that we deserve good sex, as women and dropped the single, Nkqo-Nkqo.
In June 2019, PE-born Moonchild Sanelly and Capetonian, Dee Koala took a moment to remind us that we deserve good sex, as women and dropped the single, Nkqo-Nkqo. The two artists took to social media to hint on their collaboration – Dee Koala dropped the bridge and bits of her verse on her Facebook page, and Moonchild dropped a raunchy teaser video. The song is one of the most sexually liberated…

Goodnight, Mam' Nkonyeni
Goodnight, Mam’ Nkonyeni
Partially growing up in New Brighton, I knew uMam’ Nomhle Nkonyeni as a pillar and an inspiration in our community. Although, I never knew her on a personal level as many did, I do recall the infectious smile she always wore on her face. She greeted everyone and was always friendly.

Mam’ Nkonyane’s late daughter, Thabang, is the main reason I hope there is an afterlife, a heaven of sorts…
