I’m so fucking done with piss poor excuses for cutting down bus and train lines

I live in an area that USED to have excellent public transit. unfortunately, like most public transit, the program is underfunded

why? to get more tax breaks to companies obviously!

companies that hire people from other cities, states, and even countries! companies that often provide their own transportation and don’t need public transit. companies that leave the moment they grow big enough to move somewhere cheaper. on another note this influx of transplants makes the prices of goods and housing ASTRONOMICAL

not only are these companies not pulling their weight, some even benefit from the defunding of the transit system (eg. private ride share services like Uber and ‘self driving’ cars that can’t navigate for shit without human helpers)

this fucking sucks for obvious reasons

but primarily, it hurts the PEOPLE

not only are lines getting cut, fewer busses and trains are sent out per line, leading to longer waits, AND as of recently (presumably due to poor management) wait times have been sporadic and wildly inaccurate

previously, bus schedules were never right, so there was an app that would update wait times in real time, and some stations would have wait times posted on a screen or through an audio you could press. now, neither of these times match nor are they accurate!

I know so many people who rely entirely on the busses and trains to get to school and work. WE DON’T HAVE SCHOOL BUSSES. worse transit means kids spend more time on their bus route. from personal experience, this is hellish for students. my route varied from 40 min to an hour and a half, over double the time, depending on bus connections. Obviously, to be on time, I had to wake up earlier to account for bad bus timings, so in my sophomore year (when the transit system was already having issues) I would regularly get only about 5-6 hours, often 2-4. Granted this was also due to my large workload, but that extra 50 minutes from a reliable bus schedule would have made a significant improvement.

as I mentioned, people also use public transit for work. most of the people I know who do this are working class, often living paycheck to paycheck. they cannot afford job to risk their jobs showing up late from incorrect bus predictions, but there is no way they can afford a car or a ride share service.

it’s frankly just really frustrating to see a key part of my home crumble before my eyes, sorry for the rant

had the weirdest dream last night about seeing starlight express

for context: I have never seen the Wembley show in full

before the show even started the cast was trying to recreate the 2017 workshop version of the show (also haven’t seen that one) which included scenes like:

the coaches meeting each other in an airport bathroom

said bathroom only giving you toilet paper proportional to your occupation

a lotta locomotion being done with bathroom stall choreography (somehow?)

memphis belle (who was in the workshop?) running off stage an outdoor section by opening a door and locking it from greaseball who was chasing her to race with him

also Ashley is only kept because she’s a twist villain? Buffy is replaced with female Tassita

a megamix with a mysterious second cast mirroring the first only on time (the actual cast is a little late on timing no matter how many times they try to fix their timing)

then the actual show has

no control except for one scene

no onstage mother

a stage with none of the first level loops or central apron (eg. think the only abnormal theaters aspects are the multiple levels and the loop around the back of the stage, otherwise it looks like a cross between a small, older ballet theater and a movie theater)

entry of the champion engine section where most of the cast just does skate around?

no I am me

rusty singing crazy in a cyclops (the x-men not mythology) costume

followed immediately by two controls playing a video on an old projector(?) for Rusty to hide behind (he is not seen again in x-men attire)

right after they have pumping iron, but the drummer dropped a trophy so it sounds like he was just playing fast fills so the cast skipped the second verse

the musicians are also onstage on a corner of the stage in front of the wings and have all their instruments laid out (why stuff got knocked over)

they decide to show stop and recoup the instruments

second time pumping iron is fine

AC/DC (after pumping iron) is normal but Electra has deflated balloon spikes and the components have the fnaf jump scare voices and do the original intro instead

there’s no Freight, just the extra verse of freight they did when they cut CB but kept his backing track

also no Hydrogen, hydra just does the freight choreo

they couldn’t do the races so they just used the prerecorded races but badly photoshopped the faces of the Wembley trains onto them

toy solider caboose is in the show for There’s Me and only there’s me (not even onstage during the rest of the show or the megamix)

momma’s blues are just momma singing belle the sleeping car?

no rap or uncoupled but there is rolling stock reprise? not called girls’ rolling stock bc of tassita, also less gay choreo

no third race

starlight express is sung with rusty disguised as an usher in the back of the room (just realizes rusty has all the costume changes lol)

wide smile is normal except there’s the cb disney creepypasta as a lead in

one rock n roll too many is inexplicably done with pre 2017 electra and greaseball pantomime manhandling caboose (who is singing, just offstage) the Wembley rock n roll trio is on stage too, they’re just slowly and achingly spinning in circles in a triangle around gb and electra

i do is normal but they put rubble in pearl and Rusty’s hair for some reason so half the choreo is them slowly picking the large chunks of rubble in each others’ hair but holding on to said rubble so no one trips

the greaseball you’re hurt is intended to have similar choreo to pre 2017 shows but Dinah body slams greaseball offstage

greaseball slowly recovers and tries to climb back up but Dinah shoves greaseball (like in that one Bochum gif) and she falls back down into the audience, desperately trying to grab ahold of the stage

megamix is relatively normal for the weird stage, but Electra is noticeably off center both on stage and in the circle around them (they are stage right and downstage)

learning from jeopardy that loop de loop is cockney slang for soup makes Dinah’s lotta locomotion verse make sense but also raises the question why a southern gal(train? idk) would know cockney slang

Every time Pearl hate turns into just straight up misogyny I kill another hostage.

You are allowed to not like her but so many times I feel like critiques of her just turn into the belief that Pearl "owes" Rusty and should have raced with him because he is a nice guy and treated her well. Electra never mistreats her?? Electra is actually quite nice to Pearl??? There was no signs to Pearl that going with Electra would spiral into what it became.

Pearl is not without fault. She is a complicated character. We WANT complicated female characters! We can criticize her actions without falling into misogynistic talking points and treating the female lead like shit for daring to make the wrong choice. Why is it always Pearl that gets criticized, and not Rusty for getting upset because Pearl wouldn't race with him when, Post 2018, Pearl had never agreed too!

The story has made Pearl actively less complicated and deserving of criticism over the years and yet it seems like hate of her only increases. Shes just a girl who makes some poor choices, but everyone in the show does. Rusty races with Caboose/Slick yall, neither of these two are great at not racing with evil people.

I've always been really good at staying away from the toxic parts of fandoms, but from what I'm hearing some of y'all need to chill. What do you mean the actors have to actually repost how your meant to act and what not to do, like oh I don't know FOLLOWING SOMEONE HOME.

This fandom is about trains guys, TRAINS, people on roller skates doing tricks and singing.

If you can't behave, leave, get out stop sending death threats or whatever else I've heard you weirdos are doing. Keep your opinions to yourself, or have a civilized conversation. It's not hard.
