do you think god still loves you, after everything?
TRUTHFULLY, IT’S SOMETHING serena had found herself thinking about a lot in these last few weeks, as she bounced from refugee camp to refugee camp. could the lord still love her after everything she had done? all the pain the had caused, the people who were dead because of her. they hadn't died by her hand but their blood still stained everything she did. would she ever be let into heaven when her time came? “ if we confess our sins, he is faithful & just to forgive us our sins, & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ”
perhaps spouting scripture wasn't the best decision at the moment. “ the lord knows what's within my heart, he knows i only wanted what was best. he sees the good i managed to do, he can forgive me for the pain that i had caused. ” the same can not be said for so many others. did june even truly forgive her? still, forgiveness wasn't love, was it?

♕ ❛ THE HANDMAIDS TALE SENTENCE STARTERS S1E1
I had another name, but it’s forbidden now. This is your second posting then? It was like training a dog, only not a very smart one. Blessed be the fruit May the Lord open. Well, look what the cat dragged in. I want to see as little of you as possible. He is my husband until death do us part. If I get trouble, believe me, I will give trouble back. Always showing up when I’m in the midst of something. Be rude, leaving your friend outside waiting. Under His eye. You should definitely avoid the tuna. It’s supposed to be for our protection. That’s bullshit. We’ve been sent good weather. Which I receive with joy Did you see? They have oranges. Don’t let a Martha take the credit. I need to grab the nearest machine gun. Birth control pills, morning-after pills, murdering babies. Just so they could have their orgies, their Tinder. They were dirty women. They were sluts. Fertility is a gift directly from God. Blessed are the meek, dear. All this crazy shit is gonna end and then we’ll find her. We’re breeding stock. They’ll send you to The Colonies. You’ll be cleaning up toxic waste. Hey, that shit is contagious When I blow the whistle, what you do is up to you. I know five women at work who’ve had miscarriages. You and me, just like always. Not if you had a red tag.

Well Serena, you got the baby you wanted. It only cost you your country, your home, your marriage, your career, and anyone who might have supported you. Was any of it worth it? ((just an IC thing for Serena after the finale, feel free to ignore or delete if you want, I love your writing!!))
SILENCE LINGERS FOR a moment, the question bouncing around in serena's skull. ( was any of it worth it? ) all the pain, the people she had hurt & those she had lost. the suffering those without a position of power endured in gilead, all of it was her fault, wasn't it? if she hadn't written that book, if she had never toured the country giving speeches, if she didn't continuously support the sons of jacob in the beginning; would any of it had happened at all? would america still be just as it was before? would a flag stitched with fifty stars still fly proudly?
“ no. ” she readjusts the infant within her arms, holding him close. “ when noah was born, i thought that it was all worth it. everything that had happened was a necessary sacrifice to be welcomed back into god's good graces. ” she sighs, looking down a moment to recollect her thoughts. “ i can say with certainty that it wasn't. those people, things that happened to them, it wasn't a necessary evil. they weren't sacrifices or sinners, they weren't "misused holy vessels." they were just... people. human beings with lives & families. ”
june can not help but come to mind, the knowledge that she was separated from one of her daughters still. serena may not have directly pulled the child from her arms, but she still had a part in their displacement. it was still her fault that mothers were without their children. “ i love noah, he is my greatest gift from god, but... i could have done something else. i could have found another way to promote fertility. i could've listened to all of those privileged, spoiled college kids. i thought they were tapped in their academic bubble, not seeing the world for what it truly was. how many of them did i stop from making conservation efforts? how many of them were fighting to do something about falling birthrates or pollution? ”
how many lives did she ruin, she wonders. “ in the world before, i used my voice to preach about returning to our biological destinies. in canada, i tried to advocate for fertility. in new bethlehem, i wanted to help create a better gilead. ” a pause, serena readjusting in her seat. “ i wanted to write a book again some day, to tell my story & to talk of gilead. that's what i am good at, isn't it? writing about the world around me? ” there's a hint of sadness in her tone, a clear indication of how much what she has done now haunts her. “ i think perhaps it's time i remain speechless. ”

RATATOUILLE (2007) PROMPTS
if you focus on what you left behind, you’ll never see what lies ahead.
last night, i experienced something new.
you must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from.
only the fearless can be great.
take a good long look.
we must live carefully.
when all is said and done, we’re all we’ve got.
you’re telling me that the future can only be more of this?
this is the way things are. you can’t change nature.
where are you going?
do you know what you’d like this evening?
which one would you like?
i’ll make you a deal.
you’re slow for someone in the fast lane.
i will return tomorrow night with high expectations.
pray you don’t disappoint me.
every second counts!
no one knows for sure.
i defrauded a major corporation.
i robbed the second largest bank in france using only a ball-point pen.
i killed a man… with this thumb!
no, i don’t think anyone can do it.
wait. you read?
i don’t like secrets.
it’s like you’re involving me in crime, and i let you. why do i let you?
thank you, by the way, for all the advice.
don’t look at me like that!
you’re aren’t the only one who’s trapped.
you’re the one who was getting fancy with the spices!
i need this job. i’ve lost so many.
did you nod? have you been nodding?
you understand me? so i’m not crazy!
look, don’t be so modest.
whatever you did, they liked it.
do you think you could… do it again?
i’m going to let you out now.
regrettably, we are all out of wine.
uh… excuse me a moment?
i think it’s apparent that i need to rethink my life a little bit.
if you are what you eat, then i only want to eat the good stuff.
look at him out there, pretending to be an idiot!
should i be concerned about this? about you?
i would have followed your advice to the ends of the earth.
so, we have given up.
you are better than that.
food will always come to those who love to cook.
why do you care?
you can smell all that?
now don’t you feel better?
it isn’t stealing if no one wants it.
let’s just say we have different points of view.
i don’t really drink, you know.
why are you walking like that?
what are you blathering about?
that storm’s getting closer.
always do something unexpected.
welcome to hell.
we gotta figure something else out.
so this is it. it’s not much but it’s, y’know. not much.
well, i just lost my family. all my friends. probably forever.
why am i talking to you?
you know how to fix it. this is your chance.
